Gideon Simon who is a Tigers affiliated, International (PNG) Scholarship player has joined training at the club just recently. Apparently the young lad, who impressed at last year's u16 Champs, is looking very slick indeed 8). You will be able to see him in the Coburg ressies over the coming weeks.

How long till he goes on our list?
2013, so a little time to wait just yet. He is also diminutive (think Nahas height), but more solidly built.

Seen him play. Can see why Dimma wanted to play him last NAB Cup. Kid is good.

'Giddy' is in the Coburg Ressies this week :thumbsup...and so is Turner. Fairdinkum, from what I've seen of these two we may just finally 'cash-in' after years of bad luck re' Indigenous/International recruitment.

These PNG/Islander chaps dont seem to go through puberty. They appear to go straight from being little children to being fully grown blokes.

PNG 'tackling machine' joins Tigers
By Paul Daffey 5:05 PM Fri 05 Oct, 2012
RICHMOND has signed the first player on its international rookie list.
Gideon Simon, a small forward from Papua New Guinea who's 172cm and 71kg, spent three months at Punt Rd this season as part of his AFL international scholarship.
He played in the reserves at Richmond's affiliate, Coburg Tigers, where his form impressed the Tigers enough to upgrade him to their international rookie list.

Richmond signs PNG teenager Gideon Simon as international rookie
Al Paton

RICHMOND hopes its new 172cm rookie from Papua New Guinea will terrorise opposition defenders.
Gideon Simon was signed up today as the Tigers' first international rookie.
The small forward spent three months at Punt Rd this season on an international scholarship, and played with the Coburg reserves.
The 18-year-old showed enough to be rookie-listed for next season.
Richmond recruiting manager Matt Clarke said the club hoped to turn Simon into a "tackling machine".
"He's little but he's powerful," Clarke told the Tigers website.
"The thing that impressed us (during his stint at Punt Rd) was how well he fitted into the group.
"Our players were disappointed when he had to go back home.
"The coach (Damien Hardwick) said, 'He does everything right as a person, he does everything right on the ground. Let's give him a chance'."
Simon has been at Etihad Stadium for this week's draft camp, testing well in sprinting and agility events.
Simon, who hails from Mt Hagen, PNG's third-largest city, said he played in the midfield in the Port Moresby competition.
"Here I'm too short," he said. "They will play me in the forwards."

Only got king and nahas in front of him.
-
Can anyone confirm he speaks English? Do they speak it up there?
-
They speak Tok Tok Pisin, English and local dialects too like motu etc
Depends where he came from but English is spoken by most of the folks I met from PNG.
-
1. How much sunlight and Seasol does his hair need?
2. Can an international rookie get a kick or do they need to get elevated like a regular vanilla rookie?

-
Reckon he will get games depending on his endurance which when I watched him was pretty ordinary. Will play NAB Cup though so we will at least see him without having to go to Crapburg. :shh
-
Coming from PNG he ought a be used to the tough stuff too and hopefully won't be another weak kneed Irish go homer. It'll be easier to 1. Move his folks over or 2. Have him fly home on holidays too.

Speaks english and a very nice kid too, he sat behind me at the Carlton game ;D
And from a footy side of things , struth the kid can tackle :clapping

I'm pretty sure that he (as an Int' Rookie) can be elevated at any time and is distinct from the other rookies in that regard. We should also sign that American dude as well - Wallace. He would have Gus quivering at the intra-club matches ;D I'm sure he could drum up enough Marketing currency in the US to pay for his wage. We can have a maximum of 6 (Int' rookies) at any stage and recruit up to 2 in any given year.

FFS.. :whistle :whistle, they speak better English than some Australians, they are also more intelligent, have better morals and are more respectful!!

Maybe they should get you to do the digging and drilling then !!
Seems strange that you are the boss and you are less intelligent, have lower morals and less respect.
Get off your high horse.
Been there less than a year.
This time a year ago Africans were smarter and better people. As a mere Australian I am slipping a long way down the pecking order after countries that have been dug and drilled by WAT.
Oh, and I bothered to do some research .........................
LITERACY IN Papua New Guinea has fallen below 50% of the population, the PNG National Research Institute says.
So I would suggest there was nothing disrespectful in asking if he spoke English. It seems like a very valid question to me.

"Less intelegent" coming from a moron I will take that as a compliment!! Just like when I was in Africa, great to hear comments from people who go off stats....
Why the stuff would he be in an AFL team if he couldnt speak English???? How the stuff could he understand instructions etc....unless it's visual, very visual, if they don't speak English they do not undersatnd!!! Why would the RFC recruit someone that could not understand English. LL&N understanding and Education takes a long time to impliment!!

Picking on Typo's now :lol Nice way to again deflect the topic away from your half arsed, ill informed answers :lol
Jurrah was going quit well until he had his issues back home, did a remarkable job considering he hardly spoke a word of English when he first came to Melbourne ;)
Now please feel free to explain (In English) what would be the difference in Drafting a non English speaking Aboriginal player as apposed to a non English speaking PNG player? and how does there differences in Cultures make any difference? Lets not forget your the one making these bold claims, surly you have the answers :whistle

Simon's saga

PAPUA New Guinean Richmond rookie Gideon Simon is back at at Tigerland after visa issues delayed his return to Punt Road this year.
Simon, the small forward who spent three months at the club last year before earning an international rookie contract, arrived back in Australia last Friday night after going home before Christmas.
"It's been a bit of a story within itself at the footy club," Richmond midfield coach Danny Daly told AFL.com.au.
"I don't know 100 per cent but [the delay] had something to do with his visa and the amount of stay he had over here previously.
"It was about when he could come back and who was going to sign for him to come back.
"Once that was all sorted out, it was just a matter of him getting on the flight and coming over.
"Thankfully it was all resolved."
Simon trained away from the main group on Tuesday as he begins his efforts to rebuild his fitness base, which took a hit while he was at home.
Daly said the powerful 172cm Simon would need four or five weeks of conditioning before he joined in full training.
He also said the Tigers were confident the visa issues had been resolved and Simon should not encounter further problems.
"As far as I'm aware, that's it now, once he's over here it's all done and dusted so he should be pretty right from now on in," Daly said.
"It's a good story to get someone from overseas and see how they go."

Gone bung bung.

Grab one of those American basketballers- good publicity if nothing else. Plus most of our list will probably love having a real live African-American around the place and most likely be completely enamoured by anything he says or does if they're anything like most halfwit Australian males under the age of 30.

Probably because he never even got a profile on the RFC site. It's like he never existed. :shh
