Richmond duds keeping him out .
Hopefully Milzaaay plays for Coburg. They normally only name blokes at Coburg when they're on an extended bench for Richmond. Miller was named at CHF for the tigs. Reckon he will drop out....hope he drops out ;D
-
Great to ses Helbig back, good luck with it son!
Ditto. If he can get a month's worth of footy at VFL level under his belt he may still get the chance of a Richmond gig before the end of the season.

Just 7 RFC players in the Coburg seniors today - Graham, Astbury, Darrou, Verrier, Miller, Elton and Derickx.

High ball deep inside 50 by Carnell. Miller and Derickx crash the pack and Jordon crumbs a goal :gotigers

Gus drops a sitter in the defensive goalsquare ::) then handballs to a 50/50 and from the resulting play NB get a free and goal.

THE MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION IS PIA THERE?

Point to Coburg. Coburg has gifted every shot on goal to NB so far.

He's terrible man.

Gus two dropped marks = two North Ballarat goals :wallywink
Newy would rather retire than play with these spuds . Major question marks over the Coburg coach as well. Forward set up is woeful.

Coburg get it over the top of the Roosters defensive. Miller to Murphy on the run who misses.

True and in fairness to Cook (who is coaching today) he has pushed Miller back to the goalsquare this quarter so there's a tall target to kick to. That's a better structure. Too bad Miller is as slow as treacle :banghead.

ANother miss from a set shot to Coburg (Cartelli)
Finally some good play from a forward stoppage. Derickx taps down to Thomas who snaps a goal.

There's nothing at Coburg if Richmond gets any more injuries. A total rabble! :help

Possies:

Astbury 4k 3h
Miller 4k 2h
Zero structure, overpossessing by hand (nothing disposals) and schoolboy turnovers sums up Coburg. Just frightening bad! There's nothing to get excited about from a Richmond viewpoint :-\.
-
Astbury is a dud. Delist.
Can't believe they gave him Richo's sacred number.
-
Again goes back to depth. We have none at Richmond.
Circa 06-07-08 we we woeful at RFC and Coburg had depth and good VFL results. We even made a VFL Grand Final in 2007, yet week in week out we had the same side at AFL level yet now its a situation where we have nothing at Coburg and all Coburg is doing is merely making up numbers and playing woeful footy with the standard of players they have.
The sooner we have depth at RFC the better. Hopefully blokes like Jako King or Nahas White etc can just be the depth players rather than being the obvious choices to come in when RFC get injuries. :help
Need to have a stand alone VFL side to develop our own players rather than have this so below standard VFL affilliate which is detrimental to the long term development and nurturing of some players. The way they are playing there are some EFL sides that could beat them. :help
Stuff Coburg nothing to see there and I have no emotional attatchment to it regardless of the current link to the RFC. I'm switching channels to watch Pies v Hawks. Go Hawks. :lol :rollin :lol

Just 7 RFC players in the Coburg seniors today - Graham, Astbury, Darrou, Verrier, Miller, Elton and Derickx.
Webberley as emergency for the ones because he's the only fit small we have on the list? After last week, I would have thought that the club would promote a rookie in preference to that. No rookies worthy either?

Just got home from game
Horrible performance
The King Island Brie was hopeless
We were undermanned
Nothing to talk about except astbury still turns it over after winning the ball

Just got home from the game..probably the most dispirited ,spineless performance i have yet seen from coburg..i cant name one richmond listed player who stood out for me.I think it was Darou, did show some enthusiasm and did chase and run and kick long.verrier looks the goods(afl size) but to me just lacks a little polish....Elton got to the contests on many occasions but just couldnt make it stick..Out of interest..
Did big Browne play in the earlier game, because I wonder if he comes in tomorrow for big Evaaann who the club says will have to be nursed through the season?
-
Disgusted at that performance , heads need to roll at that club

He did, and was in the bests according to the official scores.

It just shows they pick the best players based on the stat sheet. Miller was useless today while Murphy was Coburg's best.
Astbury - Edwards' opponent. Looked slow off the mark but I'll give him some slack as he's coming back from a long lay off. Leave judging him until 2013.
Darrou - took some nice marks in defence but needs to get way fitter.
Verrier - Still raw. Probably the RFC-listed player who ended up with the most possies which is why he's named in Coburg's bests. He, like everyone else today, wouldn't deserve a Richmond call up though based on today's efforts.
Graham - dropped two marks including a sitter in the defensive goalsquare in the first quarter which lead to two Rooster goals and it didn't get any better from there. The club needs to pay him out at the end of the season as he'll be left to rot at Coburg next year.
Derickx - just a plodder who is too slow. Another who will be cut at the end of the year.
Elton - needs time in the gym over a preseason or two. He's getting pushed aside too easily.
Miller - should retire. Like Derickx too slow on the lead now so he's direct opponent can easily gain front spot or at least a clear spoil.
Apart from the little league skill errors and standard overall ::), the other main problem that stood out for the Coburg was their forwards and half-forwards don't move. Virtually every kick forward of centre was to a stationary target rather than to a leading-up one. It was amateur hour :scream. Thank gawd we are splitting away. Today was the perfect example why we need to do so. A shame we can't break the affilitation at the end of this season. You can't develop young players like Elton and Verrier within that rabble.
-
Would you say darrou or verrier show any signs of making it? :huh

watched the entire game
lets hope we have no injuries tomorrow, as there is nothing at Coburg at present
Would think Gus stopped trying today, he is a disgrace

Watched it twice, can't believe you think Gus is a disgrace? I can think of 1000 worse things to call him ;D
-
Miller was offal
Mince him up for the Barbie
The king island Brie was soft as usual
Bo Derrickx tries hard but not consistent and talented enough
Darrou is diarrhea why bother gets caught out bc no speed
Coaches pet Astbury wins and reads the ball well but has poor foot and hand skills
In the third q he had 6 possessions for 5 apple turnovers
Worst Coburg performance I've ever seen
Rfc get out of there ASAP
Coburg players were dwarfs today
Dimmer was walking around the boundary line
I told him to get in the box with a wry smile on my dial. I don't think he appreciated it

Coburg suffers double blow as Richmond splits
Brent Diamond
The Age
July 22, 2012
ON A day that Coburg realised the dreaded fate of its split with Richmond, it received a reality check of another kind with a 77-point loss to North Ballarat.
The heavy loss ended Coburg's finals hopes this season but the conclusion of its alignment with Richmond, announced yesterday, at the end of next season - a year earlier than its contract was to expire - may have more dramatic consequences for its future in the VFL.
Aside from Damien Rayson (31 touches), Daniel Venditti (26) and David Astbury (26) and some flashes of brilliance from Adam Saad with two goals, Coburg appeared out of its depth yesterday to cover North Ballarat, which has just started to gain some momentum as it consolidates eighth position.
Chris Giampaolo was exciting in one of his matches for North Ballarat with 28 touches, while Myles Sewell was equally good with 28 touches. Sewell is believed to have attracted some interest from more AFL recruiters over the past fortnight as he seeks to realise his dream and follow in his brother Brad's footsteps. Cruize Garlett was also influential with 26 disposals for the Roosters.

Astbury. Has he ever beaten an opponent when he's played down back? I mean really shut a bloke down? I remember him looking worse than Post at AFL level (and a lot more timid). Gave him some slack because he was a young bloke but stuff me. Good players don't struggle in the twos. Did good things yesterday but I hope he can force his way into the side next year..
-
watched the entire game
lets hope we have no injuries tomorrow, as there is nothing at Coburg at present
Would think Gus stopped trying today, he is a disgrace
The old man went along yesterday and the first thing he told me was "Graham's effort was disgusting and should never represent Richmond in the 1sts or at Coburg again".
Pay him out Monday morning and walk him off the premises. >:(
-
This is a shocking thing to say
But Gus didn't try
What about his attempt to get back in the hole in the 2nd quarter
He walked back
And Brett Cook coaching Coburg yesterday
Please spare me
-
Best thing out of the game was the news that the split is occurring sooner. Astbury's last quarter was okay. He took a nice grab but his disposal wasn't flash. Loudest cheer came in the third quarter when Miller finally took a mark. Graham, Derrickx and Miller insipid. Atrocious delivery into the forward line didn't help Elton. Darrou and Verrier at least tried. The Coburg players are at best plodders. Saad in the last half was the only Coburg player who looked lively. All ABC commentators of view Browne is gone.
-
worst part of yesterday's performance (apart from Gus - who was universally the worst part of yesterday's performance) was that it shows how poor/shallow our depth still is....we all know you need a squad of around 30 to really push the top teams & compete in finals & unfortunately for us & our core group of players, we still lack that bottom 5 - 10 to a) push the regular 22's to make sure they stay on top of their game (means too many get gifted) and b) replace players who are either underperforming or injured...
shows we still have some work to do on and off field...
-
Our depth should be topped up late in the draft with some experienced VFL/State League players from around the country. That Sam Dwyer hasnt had a go in the AFL is a joke, he could be targetted late in the draft and you could get 2 or 3 decent years out him with him being able to make senior appearances as well. Kyle Martin from Frankston should also be given a go IMHO. Im sure theres many others as well.
-
It's not about depth most of those spuds that played yesterday have already been told they will not be required next year so they don't care
It's that time of the year where we have something left to play for in the seniors but I repeat
IT COULD GET UGLY
FFS or FTF
-
Would you say darrou or verrier show any signs of making it? :huh
Way too early to tell.
The question mark over Darrou is fitness, speed and acceleration for mine. His technique looks fine.
The question mark over Verrier is he is raw so his disposal and decision making is inconsistent. He'll be a outside midfielder or half-back flanker if he was to make it.
-
Verrier may make it but not holding my breathe
Diarrhea and Piva are too slow and are a waste of space and FTF money
-
Verrier may make it but not holding my breathe

Piva Wright and Darrou should never have been rookied. Way to slow for AFL Footy.

Development coach Greg Mellor's summary of how the Richmond-listed players performed at Coburg last Saturday...
Seniors
Ben Darrou
A good learning experience for him. Gave his quality opponent too much latitude, but it was pleasing to see him remain positive and continue to be offensive when we had the ball. His ball use continues to be very effective.
Dave Astbury
Had some really strong aspects to his game. Collected 24 possessions as a key defender and set up many rebounds from the backline. Is focusing on his starting points, so he can have a stronger defensive side to his game.
Todd Elton
Had a quiet game. Worked hard, but did not receive many opportunities, one-on-one, to have an impact. Some good reflex handballs from him brought team-mates into the game, but, overall, we know he can improve on that performance.
Steve Verrier
Had a quiet first half playing on the wing, but then performed well in a ‘run-with’ role on opposition ‘ball-magnet’, Myles Sewell, keeping him to just five possessions in the second half, after he’d had 20 in the first half. We were really pleased with Steve’s effort, particularly as this was the first time he has played this role.
Angus Graham
Dominated the hit-outs, but the midfielders were not able to fully capitalise on that advantage. Took a couple of strong marks, but missed some crucial ones that he would normally expect to take. He has been working hard on this with Richmond assistant coach, Brendon Lade, after training.
Tom Derickx
Played mainly as a key forward, with some time also spent in the ruck. While he didn’t impact as much as he would have liked, he did take five marks, although he also spilled a couple he should have taken. Improvement in this area is going to take his game to the next level. Having 18 hit-outs, as a secondary ruck, was pleasing.
Brad Miller
Always upbeat and cheerful, he played his role for the team. Worked really hard as a key forward, taking nine marks, but picked up most of these well outside the forward-50 area, thus limiting his shots for goal. His voice and leadership is really positive for the young players at Coburg.
Development
Andrew Browne
Another strong performance. Played in the development team to ensure he spent 95% of the time in the ruck. Dominated the hit-outs and took several marks around the ground, despite often being double-teamed.
Piva Wright
An improved performance. Provided the run-and-carry we want from defence. His ball use was also better, although we believe it can become even more efficient. Defensive actions were also quite solid and an improvement on the previous week.
