SAD BUT TRUE :-\

Pope optimism is great pal. :thumbsup
100 things have to happen before we even contemplate finals.
Right now we are on thing 3.
By the way Essendon need to lose tomorrow, lose to Carlton and Nought need to beat Freo in a fortnight provided we beat the Dogs tomorrow and Freo in Perth next week.
Be whatever it may be.
I am not losing sleep over this.

relying to much on others , wont happen never does

Strong 10th. St Kilda or Carlton will finish 9th given their draw and the fact they play in the Round 23.
-
Carltank could make it. They have Bumz, Gold Coast and Saints.

Oh Popelord, dont do it to yourself.
Book a september holiday instead.

No hope, move on people

Probably end up bloody 9th again.... :scream

At least the finals are still alive.
I hope we smash the Dogs and Power by 100 points each. The Dockers and Bombers games are both 8 point games for us.
We can afford Bombers and Kangaroos to win 1 of their last 4. One will lose today because they play each other. Hopefully Bombers, who play Blues, Tigers and Magpies. Kangaroos are better placed with Magpies, Dockers, Giants to come.
We can afford Carlton and Saints to win 2 of their last 3. Blues play Bombers, Suns and Saints. Saints play Cats, Giants, Blues.
We can afford Dockers to win 1 of their last 3. They play Tigers, Kangaroos, Demons.
I atually hope Bombers beat Blues next week as long as they lose to North today. Blues have an easier last 2 games than the bombers. But if Blues win then we'll need Saints to beat them in last round and hopefully our percentage will overtake theirs. Won't be easy but our chances are still alive slightly.
So what we need is to win our last 4 games and hopefully big wins against Dogs and Power in case Saints win 2 more games.
If we do, we need Kangaroos to beat Dockers at Etihad and Magpies to beat Bombers which both should happen.
We probably need Cats to beat Saints and Bombers or Saints to beat Blues which is a good chance.
The best quick result for us is for Bombers to lose today and beat Blues next week. That will remove those 2 teams chances if we win our last 4 games

yes I always felt it was over after the freo loss.
I definately would've forgiven the boys for losing to freo and to GC etc. if they could make my year and beat that cheating scum from princess park.
And because they failed to beat them even with close to half the team missing and failed to keep infront and failed to shut up every arrogant carlscum supporter who were gobsmacked that even with everything falling into our favour we still could'nt win.
I won't get over that loss for a long long long time.

Carlton play Essendon and ST Kilda if two of them get to 12 our goose is cooked.
Same with Nought playing Essendon and Freo
Forget about it and load up for 2013.
Watch the lads play some pressure free footy and load up for 2013. :thumbsup

But if they get to 12 wins, and so do we the only % we have to worry about is St Kilda?
Ours is superior to both Carl and Ess?
If we all get to 12 wins we get 8th spot with better %, we just need Saints to only win 11 games.
So Saints have to lose to Geelong and Carlton. Geelong will win, Saints look ordinary and no Riewoldt will hurt them
All we need is Essendon need to beat Carlton, to keep them to no more than 12 wins.
If that happens and we win our 3 games, we make the 8.
Think Freo or Saints are most likely. At least it makes it interesting.

The run home
By Ben Guthrie
10:16 PM Sun 12 Aug, 2012
12. Richmond
36 points (nine wins, 10 losses) 112.04 per cent
The run home:
Rd 21: Fremantle at Patersons Stadium
Rd 22: Essendon at the MCG
Rd 23: Port Adelaide at the MCG
A Trent Cotchin masterclass kept the Tigers' season chugging along and yes, they can still make the finals. More realistically, they have the chance to play wrecking ball to others' September ambitions, starting with Freo in the west next week. Making the eight would require an unbeaten finish to the season combined with a perfect storm of results elsewhere, including Essendon and Fremantle winning only one more game apiece. Even the most hopeful Tiger fan has lurking doubts.

As Pope posted on here, there's only one semi-realistic combination left in the remaining three rounds that can see us sneak into the finals. It relies on us winning all 3 remaining games and 5 other matches doing us a favour.
Round 21
Geelong vs St Kilda ........ need the Cats to win.
Essendon vs Carlton ....... need Essendon to win. These games have a habit of upsets and going against form.
Fremantle vs Richmond ...... obviously we need to win otherwise it's season over.
This would see us still two games outside the Eight but we'd at least be above Carlton on % so we would no longer have to worry about them. We'll know if the results of those other two games have gone our way by the time we run out onto Subi.
8. Essendon 48
9. Fremantle 44
10. St Kilda 40 (superior %)
11. Richmond 40
12. Carlton 40
Round 22
Richmond vs Essendon
North Melbourne vs Fremantle ....... Need North to keep on winning.
8. Essendon 48
9. St Kilda 44
10. Richmond 44
11. Fremantle 44
12. Carlton 44
The Blues play the Suns so they could gain some % but even if they were to win by 100 pts we'd still have superior %. Jumping ahead of Freo is one less team we'd have to worry about.
Round 23
All 5 sides should go into the final round playing for the last spot in the finals. This scenario would make it the best end to the H/A season since the dramatic 1987 one when simula.
Essendon vs Collingwood ..... the Pies should win going for a top 2 spot and home final.
Carlton vs St Kilda ..... need the Blues to win.
Richmond vs Port
Our game would start at half-time of the Blues vs Saints. So we'd be spending the first half our game listening for updates from Etihad.
8. Richmond 48
9. Essendon 48
10. Fremantle 48
11. Carlton 48
12. St Kilda 44
Easy! lol :nope
Back to reality and we'll most likely lose this week to Freo, it's 50/50 against Essendon and we should beat Port comfortably. That'd give us 10-11 wins and a top 10 draft pick to springboard off into 2013.

Finals Chances????
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
We're cooked, not going to happen, not worth stressing over
IMHO simply having to rely so heavily on others to make it means you don't deserve to play finals - end of story
-
agree wp
cant and wont make finals depending on other results
losing those pathetic 3 games in a row means we dont deserve finals this yr and its better we dont make it
to make finals next yr we need to stand down newman as captain and make cotchin and deledio joint captains, we all know cotch should be captain but lids deserves it too he is our most consistent player and cotch well he is a stuff

hard to agree against this.
Just think Cotch is more of a leader than Lids. My opinion but who knows behind closed doors.
I asked a mate last night would you rather finish 9th and miss out on % and have to stew over those pathetic losses or finish 12th and know that you still have a fair bit of work to do on and off the field
Il take the latter
-
losing those pathetic 3 games in a row means we dont deserve finals this yr and its better we dont make it
have siad this a number of times IMV losing the game against the Eagles was the one that stuffed us up big time. We had that game but poor decisions and skill cost us. It was the first of the really "close" losses.
Just reckon things would have been very different if we had won that one.
-
This morning on MMM Mick Molloy said he had talked with Stephen Hawking and we indeed remain a mathematical chance to make the finals :lol
I agree with comments that we don't deserve to play finals, but who deserves them more, n0rf or us? They too lost some close games, copped a 115 point belting by the team we flogged by 10 goals and had a poor patch. If it weren't for the chance of gaining an extra 8 points that the rest of us don't they would have played sides who would have cleaned them up. Give us those two gifted games instead (ignoring for the moment we couldn't beat GC on one meeting this year for arguments sake) and us beating them while they're in a demoralised state (our position) and it would be us in 6th position on a greater percentage than they currently have.
If this were the situation it would mean we played GWS and GC (to this date) instead of Carlton and Melbourne second time (the latter we won anyway) would we be talking ourselves up or down at this point considering if that were the scenario the close losses would have had no bearing of finals or not? I.e n0rf getting flogged and struggling for half a season.

True, not disputing that
Geelong at geelong was not one I thought we had a show in
Eagles on the other hand, over here thought we were a real show in that one
But IMV we played better against the Eagles and really that was the game that should have set us up against the top 8 sides in the "belief" stakes
Just my take :thumbsup

for whats its worth , I beleive we can win all 3.
need to contain Pav this week,
Essendon we can handle with superior onballers
Port we will beat.
Funny things happen in footy.
This season could be one of them
also club must think we are still a little hope, as Jake King needs to get his knee fixed and they are still playing him.
Guarantee if we lose this week, you wont see Jake again this year

This thread should be immediately renamed to "WHAT IF".
Although I still find myself clinging to that 5% chance of finals...There is a part of me that wishes Freo wins on the weekend so I can have some sweet relief.

Season has already been a success on many levels regardless of what happens in the next 3 weeks. Lots of areas to work on but lots of improvement that we can genuinely build on.
