I think the top 2 in 2012 were Angus Graham & Dan Jackson closely followed by Posty. I reckon I've got the top 4 listed here, so who will be number one in 13'? Guthrie the turtle is gawn so who will be the newbie to replace him?I reckon Posty could bag 6 big ones in round 1 only for WillyP & Smokey to come on here and bag him for not quite going hard enough. ;D Will still cop poo regardless of form that poor bloke. :shh That is partly MT's fault for talking him up so much.
Can't rule out veteran whipping boys in McG & Jacko, especially "Hackson" as some like to call him. Edwards is a good player but it won't take much for us to turn on him.
Who are you looking forward to hanging poo on next year? Isn't this what supporting a club is all about?
-
Delusional if you think it's only partly MT's fault. ;D
-
I normally only bag Post so that it annoys MT. Do you mean it's all his fault or you don't rate Posty? Jury is out on him for me but he played some very solid games as a defender towards the end of the season only to get murdered on here. If he was a closet gay he might get a bit more respect for his decent games :lol

I mean it's all his fault. I never bagged Post until he started draining it. ;D
Post should get another year unless traded. He's worth keeping over some others left on the list.

Yes it is very hard to be on a bandwagon with the mad one. Is he still red carded from Big Footy? Might make an appearance here if we're lucky!

LMAO. That will get him a perma ban wont it? Was the original red card a perma one? Unreal. He truly is madtiger. 8)
Have I forgotten a whipping boy? I feel like I have.

I feel like Post's weaknesses won't be overcome. He's too slow in the head, too slow in the legs, can't fire off a quick handpass, and lacks intensity. I'd want to see him as an option up forward, not down back.

Same here. I liked post, thought he had a lot of upside and that he was being dealt a rough hand on the board here at times, but towards the end of the season i saw a few things that screamed at me that said "not enough desire" I just dont think he's got the make up to go all in for lack of a better term. The boy needs to find some passion. Potential with an unwilling mind.
-
Yep, Edwards had better be on the money next year for mine!!!!
-
Jacko for mine due to him consistently getting a game (unless when he is suspended).
Post and McGuane shouldn't get many games so bagging will be minimal.
And you can never get a bagging in on Shed because WAT has usually spewed on the forum in a couple hundred posts before you get a chance.

Said it all for me RRJ. I just jumped off the bandwagon a bit earlier than you I think and once I jumped I turned on him. Nothing frustrates the crap out of me more than seeing someone waste talent and opportunity at the top level by sheer lack of heart or appetite for the contest. ;D

I try not to bag players. Especially not at games. I was a bit worried after Griggs first few games because I liked Collins. But all is good now and grigg has shown plenty of improvement while Collins has played about 1 good game ;D. Gotta be supportive of every player and see their positives and give them time to work on negatives. Surely the club can give Posty 1 year at least. He does go in. Showed some real hunger and courage against Freo and ess late in the season. He's ahead if astbury no doubt IMO. Needs to work on his composure at training. 1 on 1 he's way ahead of astbury and he has the biggest leap at the club and is very good at spoiling and marking.
-
If we the had the emphasis on character, in particular competitiveness and drive, at the time, I doubt we would have drafted Post.

Jako b/c he plays the most senior footy plain and simple.
Considering the number of whipping boys has dropped means list wise we are on the right track. :thumbsup

These sum up my view.
Don't doubt his ability but struts I certainly question his intensity, want and desire for a contest.
Remember watching him in the NAB cup and actually thought "finally the penny's dropped"
Get to round 1 and ....well ... When he pulled out of a contest (again) he lost me because I realised sadly i might add the penny hadn't dropped at all

Robin Nahas

i dont bag em for the heck of it. its purely based on performance time in system and weaknesses in their game.
white, nahas, mcguane, king, jackson, edwards, and houli and possibly derickx are all senior players who i would look to trade out and attempt to upgrade on them. they are clearly the next group in the gun because of over all performances age and time in system and last but not least they all have chronic deficiencies.
seems most would include post in there as well. me while concerned i actually think hes tracking okay. for sure he needs to take steps next yr.
-
JR if he doesn't,t win the Coleman. ::)

Sorry Claw but Houli offers a hell of allot more to the side now than post does, have or will. I'm not Houli's biggest fan but he plays his roll and players it better than allot of others. If we can get a kid in that over takes Houli then so be it but at worst he will finish up as a depth player and the day we have to use Houli as depth is the day were well and truly heading toward the top of the ladder. Until then he is entrenched in or best 22, Post isn't and I doubt he ever will be.....
-
I don't think Claw said Post was better than Houli. The day Houli is entrenched in our best 22 is the day we know we're still a mile off finals. I guess that day is today and every other day Houli has been at this club. Then again if Batchelor misses out on games then we can't be going too bad in our backline??

I'm a little surprised M Deas name hasn't come up yet.
He has been whooped harder than Dunaden in yesterday's Cup by many posters on this forum.

Dea-sgraceful!
Dea is a honest plodder who plays his role well, doesnt shirk the contest and knows his limitations. He doesn't pretend to be anything he isn't. Plus he is a DEAlightful bloke.
Compare that with the non-committed Post, the undiciplined Jackson and the perennial malaise that is White.

reckon if you did a list of younger blokes who would be needing to improve or maybe find themselves in trouble deas name would be one of them. there are a few others as well.
only reason i dont mention younger players is time in system, usually type and background .
dea comes from a non footy background and he was always going to take a little time.i suppose it all comes back to how patient we are with young blokes.

chalk and cheese tft. post is a kpp houli a flanker.
while i agree houli has performed a role well at times hes also very limited in 1/ the roles he can perform and 2/ the way he plays.
it is only my opinion but i think we do have other better options than houli to play across hb. and i believe it would not be hard to find a young upgrade on him either.
i agree he would be decent depth but hes limited in what roles he could come in and perform.in fact what i have seen of him he has one role and that is as a loose running defender.
post well when i compare him to players its our tall defenders..
rance, grimes, post. with griffiths and astbury and now chaplin. that is it we need at least this many tall defenders. i keep saying it the two utilities griffiths and astbury do play as forwards and that is their natural and best position post is very much a needed player.
unlike most people i think when he came in in rnd 17 and got a continual run at it for the rest of the yr he grew and grew and had some real good games in rnds 21 and 22, unfortunately his season became a bookend when he had a poor one in rnd 23.
he played better footy than both rance and griffiths at times yet these two seem to be golden boys who cop no criticism at all.they make regular mistakes and its over looked post makes one and every man and his dog jumps on it.
i know most will laugh at this but next yr depending on opposition id be tempted to play
b/ morris - chaplin - grimes
hb/ rance - post - batchelor/conca/houli.?????
i think we could do this because rance and grimes are both very good movers. give them more running roles than pure defensive roles.
i think post will continue to grow and improve with opportunity but he is on a knife edge he needs to work on his weaknesses.

I reckon if Post gets a good run of games in the first 2-3 months of the year, he'll become one of our best key position players. It's the lack of games in the past 2 seasons which has hurt him. Other players who did no more were given games ahead of him

An interesting side to this thread is the possible result of the coaching appointments on some players.
It's pretty much universal opinion that Post lacks intensity.
With the changes in fitness and conditioning there may well be a change in output from a few players.
With the addition of Williams as Head Development coach I can really see an improvement in the intensity and confidence from a few of the lesser lights.
The change may take as much as a year to show, but I think it's a real chance.
The letdown for me is that if there is this type of improvement, the biggest improvement could have come from Gus.
His results at Adelaide will certainly tell a story given the improvement in Jacobs.
