Kov, should be excited about every game. Each game we win brings us closer to finals and each game we lose won't. % is crucial and I'd hate to make finals yet end up 7th or 8th only to a small % and given that the bottom for of the 8 may have filth, scum or the peps its crucial we won as many as possible and smash the weaker reams :shh

Preview: Bulldogs v Tigers
afl.com.au
Tuesday, June 18, 2013
SUMMARY
The Bulldogs have lost the past two encounters against Richmond, and will be desperate to break that trend on the big stage of Saturday night football. But the Tigers have hit some strong form, as demonstrated in last Saturday's clinical win over Adelaide, and deserve to be warm favourites to win this battle and further strengthen their finals chances.

R20, 2012, Richmond 22.18 (150) d Western Bulldogs 12.8 (80) at the MCG

THE SIX POINTS
1. Western Bulldogs and Richmond clash for a second time this season after the Tigers were big winners in round three, by 67-points at Etihad Stadium. Trent Cotchin and Dustin Martin starred, and have hit red-hot form this season, sitting 21st and 37th in the Official AFL Player Ratings respectively.
2. This will be the 149th clash between the sides with Richmond winning 77 games to 69. They have also drawn twice.
3. Star forward Jack Riewoldt enjoys an impressive record against the Bulldogs kicking 21 goals in seven games, with hauls of four or more three times.
4. Did you know the last time these teams met in round 13 was in 1967 at the MCG? The Tigers won by 72 points.
5. Richmond continues to be the worst tackling side in 2013, averaging just 54.7 per game. The Bulldogs are ranked fifth with 64.8 per game.
6. The Bulldogs are ranked second this season for centre clearances, while Richmond is equal 7th.

Note a good piece by afl.com.au
Point 5 - tackling
How about last time we played them : tackles Richmond 50 Bulldogs 45 http://www.afl.com.au/match-centre/2013/3/rich-v-wb
How about tackles to opponent differential: Bulldogs ranked 18th with -6.3 Richmond ranked 11 with -6.5
How about average tackles Hawthorn ranked 15th with 59.6 who should be flogged by the Bulldogs lofty heights of 5th at 64.8.
Average tackles didnt help west coast eagles who are ranked 2nd to sydney at 69.6 when they played the lowly Richmond with its 54.8

I don't think we will win this by the same margin as last time, I think this one might go a bit like the Dees game. I hope not but they can't afford to give us that much space again, although they cant stop all of our midfielders and Foley is in this time.... :gotigers

McCartney eyes Tigers payback
Jonathan Healy
Sportal
Last Updated 20/06/2013 11:48 AM
Western Bulldogs coach Brendan McCartney says his side will be out for revenge when they take on Richmond at Etihad Stadium on Saturday night.
The Dogs were given a 67-point hiding by the Tigers back in Round 3 this season, but have improved immensely since that outing and will take on the Tigers full of confidence following two wins from three games in the past month.
McCartney said the loss in April will be fresh in the mind of his players and he expects a more competitive performance this time around.
"They remember the start where they got us, how non-thinking we were around the ball and how they were able to play the way they wanted," McCartney said on Thursday.
"They gave us a pretty good working over so it's our challenge to deal with that.
"They have a perception of us and how they think they can beat us and we've got to be able to deal with it and play well."
The Dogs will hand a debut to Lachlan Hunter while McCartney hinted veteran forward Daniel Giansiracusa would play as sub against the Tigers, following impressive performances in that role in the Dogs past three matches.

Saturday 22 June 2013, 7:40pm

Round 3, 2013: Richmond 20. 15. (135) defeat Western Bulldogs 10. 8. (68), Etihad Stadium
Round 20, 2012: Richmond 22. 18. (150) defeat Western Bulldogs 12. 8. (80), MCG

Round 11, 2009: Richmond 14. 5. (89) defeated by Western Bulldogs 24. 13. (157), Etihad Stadium
Last time they met:
* Trent Cotchin (36 disposals), Dustin Martin (35 disposals, two goals) and Jack Riewoldt (five goals) were dominant for the Tigers, while Ryan Griffen (30 disposals, eight clearances, one goal) and Liam Jones (four goals) fired for the Bulldogs
* Richmond controlled the play for much of the game, collecting 108 more disposals than the Western Bulldogs
* Will Minson dominated the hitouts with 32 to Ivan Maric’s 16
* The Bulldogs played one man down for much of the match with Easton Wood injuring his hamstring and forcing the Bulldogs to substitute Clay Smith on in the first quarter
Recent Form
Western Bulldogs
The Bulldogs need a solid start to make amends for the first half against Collingwood last week. While the Dogs have shown they can be competitive against quality opposition, their downfall has been in short lapses which allow their opponent to break the game open. Seven of the Bulldogs players named against Richmond have played less than 15 games, however the performances of Michael Talia, Brett Goodes, Jason Johannisen and the 2012 draftees justifies the selection. Senior Coach Brendan McCartney has been clear in his focus on development and youth this season and the injection of pace and polish from the young pups has been more than promising.
Richmond
Sitting one game clear in the top eight, Richmond will be determined to get the win on Saturday and further their crusade towards finals. Winning four of their past five appearances, the Tigers are stamping their authority on the competition and finding form towards the business end of the competition. Forward Powerhouse Jack Riewoldt sits comfortably in second place in the Coleman race, while their midfield is proving explosive. After a number of years on the fringe of a finals, Richmond are more adamant than ever in making an appearance this September.
Key matchups and game breakers
* In round three, Richmond kept Tom Liberatore from having his usual influence around the stoppages with just two clearances. The competition’s current leading clearance winner’s ability to work his way into tomorrow’s game will be vital in the Bulldogs’ gaining first touch.
* The Bulldogs have put a lot of faith in their most recent draftees, with Lachie Hunter the fifth to make his debut this season. The father-son selection joins Nathan, Hrovat, Jake Stringer, Jack Macrae and Brett Goodes to have been blooded this year, who are also named in the round 13 lineup.
* Richmond’s midfield depth has posed headaches for a number of opposition sides this year with Trent Cotchin, Dustin Martin and Brett Deledio in fine form. The Bulldogs’ must apply pressure across the midfield to restrict their forward entries and prevent them from finding space to play on their own terms.
What we said:
"They remember the start where they got us, how non-thinking we were around the ball and how they were able to play the way they wanted. They gave us a pretty good working over so it's our challenge to deal with that. They have a perception of us and how they think they can beat us and we've got to be able to deal with it and play well."
- Bulldogs Senior Coach Brendan McCartney
What they said:
“Contested ball, they’re very, very good. Their ability to win clearances is very good. We’ve got to make sure we combat them in those two areas, and it’ll give us a good chance to win. It’s going to be a tough game. Every week is a challenge, and this week is no different. We just need to worry about what we can control, and that’s playing good, solid football for a consistent four quarters.”
- Richmond Senior Coach Damien Hardwick

Dogs turn to speed for Tigers
The Age
June 22, 2013
The Western Bulldogs hope an injection of speed can help turn the tables on in-form Richmond on Saturday night after a heavy loss earlier this season.
The Tigers, who will climb to sixth if they notch their third straight win, posted an extremely comfortable 67-point victory over the Dogs in round three after dominating possession.
Star Richmond midfield trio Trent Cotchin, Brett Deledio and Dustin Martin notched 98 disposals and five goals between them, while key forward Jack Riewoldt also had a day out with nine marks and five goals.
But Bulldogs key defender Jordan Roughead says the side the Dogs will field on Saturday night is smaller and quicker than when they last met.
''We took two ruckmen into the last game and were probably just a bit top-heavy and a bit too slow,'' he said.
''We've gone for a bit more speed in the forward line, with Lachie Hunter and [Luke Dahlhaus] and Nathan Hrovat all in the forward line.
''Hopefully they can put some pressure on Richmond's half-backs and we can turn the footy over in our front half.''
Hunter, the son of former Bulldog Mark, will be making his AFL debut, making it four of last November's draftees in the side, including Hrovat, Jake Stringer and Jack Macrae.
None of those players were there when the Dogs last met the Tigers. Nor was speedster Jason Johannisen or captain and ball magnet Matthew Boyd.
Roughead said Hunter was agile and used the ball cleverly.
''He's got a bit of an old-school footy brain, I think, in the way he plays the game,'' he said.
Roughead will spend time on Riewoldt and expects fellow backmen Dale Morris - who was the Tiger star's main opponent last time - and Michael Talia to do likewise.
But he said the biggest key to restricting the Tiger attack was to blanket their run from the midfield and half-back.
The Dogs also want to move the ball from their own defence more quickly than they did in the first half against Collingwood last round.
''We can't go backwards with the footy,'' Roughead said. ''If we want to control the game and we want to hold onto the ball, we've still got to take it forward and be attacking. We can't kick ourselves into a corner.''

The moron is a bulldogs fan writing for their website so no surprise it's blindly biased. They're just ignoring the fact we had 13 shots to 1 in that first quarter and if we had kicked straight it would've been game over on the scoreboard at 1/4 time. It was game over anyway. The Dogs were so uncompetitive that it turned in a game of us vs the umps who were a joke that day. It was almost as if they felt sorry for the Doggies and gave them Auskick frees so they could actually get a touch of the footy.
By the way, the surface of Etihad especially around the centre circle is a shocker going on the vision tonight. The Socceroos played on it two weeks ago but Soccer doesn't chop up a surface like that. Did they play Rugby on it midweek?

5 tackles that quarter nuff said!

Chappy isn't better than that, that's typical him.
Rance forward?
Reckon that was Rance forcing Jones to be accountable and trying to tire him out.
Chappy is better than kicking just a lazy 25m pass straight to an opponent.
Anyway we're playing like millionaires and lairising with the footy. Add to that we can't kick straight and that's the only reason the score is close. We should be 5 goals up. Dimma should be going right off at the huddle for dishing out that cute crap. Just 5 tackles for the quarter.

Half-time
Richmond 4.8 8.13-61
Bulldogs 3.3 5.9-39
Goals: Riewoldt 2, Foley, Grigg, Houli, A.Edwards, Martin, Conca.
That last 15 mins was utter garbage.
-
How about we play footy instead of worrying about being flogs.
-
Lockup started the quarter well with some good work into space and hard leading.
He was robbed by the smart man/dumbest footballer in Vickery that could've given him one over the top but for some unknown reason decided to look elsewhere it would've been a certain goal for us but was eventually turned over.
What I'd like to see more from Lockup is some more tackling laid a good one that quarter but would like to see more of that.
But he's not alone only 11 tackles so far that sort of lollipop softie rubbish won't win you finals.
Saw Griffen just brush off 3 soft arm tackles like they were littles girls trying to get his autograph.
Bloody poohouse.
-
Only 11 tackles to half-time. 12 Tigers haven't laid a tackle. Only Vlastuin and Foley have had more than one tackle.
-
Hard to see on telly but I fear the creeping possession zones are back in fashion ::)............and FFS move Cotch deep forward and Lids to the back-line. BTW why is Vlaustin down back?
-
We haven't proven anything and we're already playing like millionaires!
We need to be ruthless this 2nd half and smash this poohole of a club!

Ordinary first half by the boys. Getting killed in the stoppages around the ground. Also getting killed on the break. Jones and Stringer doing whatever they want. The way we are going, an upset loss is absolutely on the cards. They need to turn it around at half time and get serious.
I haven't seen a Richmond team thats been able to turn around a bad first half for about 30 years, so let's see if we are really final eight material.

Hard to see on telly but I fear the creeping possession zones are back in fashion ::)............and FFS move Cotch deep forward and Lids to the back-line. BTW why is Vlaustin down back?
Good to see someone is listening to me ;)
-
We kept them goal-less but it's probably been one of the worst discipline efforts by a team leading by 53 points. We've just gone through the motions and only put the foot down in 5 min patches once a quarter. 15 tackles that 3rd quarter is at least better.
-
Foley back to his BS worst
-
Lockup laid a couple of good tackles that quarter resulted in rushed kicks and turnovers.
Did ok that quarter.

Lockup had his best game for us ran hard all night. Saw him helping out on the wings even in the last quarter which is very pleasing, shows he was willing to work hard right till the end.
Finished with 18 touches. 9 marks. 5 inside 50s. 2 tackles. 3 shots on goal for 1.2.
This would have to be the benchmark for any 3 forward to attain.
Played on a young defense but I liked his work tonight. :thumbsup

Like Whitey, as the sub suits his style!! :clapping

Just above 'Par' performance imo. Vickery's burst was my highlight. As for Chaplin, Doc L said that it is a recurrence of the problem he had before he came here....probably something that can be managed.
-
Not one i'll be rushing to watch again, but a 10 goal win is good.
I am still waiting for the 100+ point win complete performance though.
Boyd was one of our best I thought.

Dimma just said it is nothing structural, but will have scans later in the week.
-
you'd take a 10 goal win everytime. move on and improve on that
-
We are expected to win next week and eventually play finals but that sort of lollypop, softie, pansy, p00fter footy we will struggle to beat saints or goldcoast and we will lose to north and blues. We'll be on the edge and possibly will not make it.
It seriously riles me when they dish out that sort of poo.
Tough hard footy wins you finals and we haven't even made them yet. :banghead

correct MrT and if we had of won by 20-25 points as a supporter you'd be rueing a lost opportunity, but bottom line is we won by 10 goals and sometimes you will have a down week, we had one tonight and we still smacked them and gave ourselves a percentage booster.
-
We played soft footy and come out of it badly injury wise :-\
-
Plenty of ammo for Hardwick I think is a positive after coming off a 10 goal win. Good spread of goalkickers is a positive and Cotch not dominating is also a positive for a midfield perspective given we now have more depth to carry the load. Can only see positives after a game like this.
-
What we've learnt during the coarse of the year is that sort of poo doesn't cut it when you play the top teams.
We play tough and we pushed freo and beat west coke in Perth.
I don't mean to be upset as such but I wasn't the only one. Hardwick apparently spat the dummy too.
We can't get sucked in to that style of play. It's soft, its big headed and it won't win finals we won't beat the top four teams either. If we allow it, it will become our downfall because that'll be the norm rather than the exception.
We need to be hard and tough no excuses.
-
Win off the backs of our 2nd tier. The upside is when the top tier stands up. The reason we lost these sorts of games in the past is because we had no reliable 2nd tiers to fall back on. So I'm pretty happy that we can walk away with a 10goal win after not playing our best. Top teams will shut out our top players so these are the guys that will be called upon. Massive improvement. :thumbsup

Loved we won 4 quarters but for me tackling intensity seemed non existent.
Whilst we had 72 against Adelaide last week we only had 26 to 3/4 time this week.
It's okay to turn up the intensity based on the opponent but last week should be the norm and that should be the figure week in week out even though tonight was an outside game mainly.
Starting to look good though and are getting better and better.
Our destiny is in our hands and that is what I like.
Second tier players starting to step up more and more and influence games.
Conca for me was fantastic tonight bar a few of his kicks. :thumbsup

Tackling stats ar are overrated.. Not every team plays the same and not every game will have high tackling. ESP when many of our tackles are not rewarded.
If we kicked straight we would have won by 15 goals but we still pumped them by 10
It was a good win
ESP when Foley the stuff up toss kept giving the ball back to them
-
Positives even spread of goal kickers and our second tier players got us over the line. Houli very good. Kicking for goal not great. Good to have a ten goal win but believe if we brought same intensity to this game as previous two would have demolished them. Umpiring very average. Positive got plenty of room for improvement.

We have won 5 of our last 6 games.
And won 10 of our 12 qtrs of football with wins that have averaged 8 goals. :thumbsup
We are not perfect.
We are also a side that's probably only good enough to finish 6-8th.
Based on that, was very happy with the results despite aspects of the game being a little frustrating.
I'm not going to get hung up on not being perfect, I'm just enjoying the ride.
Focus on the positives lads, they have been few and far between for a long time - getting better before your eyes is bloody enjoyable - even if we have a long way still to go.
-
Average winning score against the bumdogs is 65.6 points :cheers
-
poor game of footy with afew highlights, vickery actually showed he had some nuts last night and IMHO took a few forward steps in how he plays. Now if he can play with that intensity more often he may yet be a very nice player, otherwise it seemed to me we are miles in front of footscray and we did what we had to do. Tackling is an issue we need to see more of it from our team otherwise a good win and the 4 points in the bag.

I'm not saying I don't like winning. Don't get me wrong.
What I can't stand is soft footy. If we allow it to be engrained into our players its ok to play like this because we beat teams like the bulldogs we will never win a final.
Our team is young and the way it played against freo and west coke or adelaide must be the norm. That's the sort of footy that will take you to the next level.
If we are just running around getting the easy kicks but not willing to go in hard and kill the opposition we are not going to break any team. Great teams can flex the muscle and smash an opponent into submission. Then its a mind game where teams once they're broken they are easy to smash that's when you get teams dropping and fumbling with referred pressure just because their scared of you. That's how it used to be. Teams were poo scared of us and I want this again.
11 tackles to half time isn't good enough.
A win is a win and I'm wrapped for it but I just don't like soft lollipop girly footy that's all. If we played like did against the eagles we would've easily won by 100 points.
We need to know how to be a finals team and play like one all the time.
-
Even though our tackling numbers were down we still corralled and hassled the opposition. Not many stoppages to get easy tackles either. The fact they kept kicking it to us instead of their own team made it hard to tackle them. Do we need to get better? Of course. But it wasn't all doom and gloom. They scored 61 for a whole game :lol
-
Our team is young and the way it played against freo and west coke or adelaide must be the norm.
We were terrible against Freo. Soft, reactionary and zero urgency. If we played them with anywhere near the intensity of recent games we would have beaten them quite easily and be now sitting in the Top 4. It still staggers me that we got as close as 1 point in that game.
-

Unrelated to your point, be regarding beating Freo, we would be ahead of them and wankers would be still carrying on that we haven't beaten anyone :lol If we lost to West Coke and Carlton then they would be above us and same tossers would be banging on we can't beat anyone above us.

We want from 3.1 to 4.8 in the first and won by 9.6.
With more care we could have won by 15 goals.
Only way they would have got within 30 points was if we kicked 10 goals from 36 scoring shots.
-
He argued if we kicked straight we would've had an extra 6 goals. So for arguments sake I said if they had of kicked straight they would've kicked an extra 6 goals. Just don't like when people try and twist stats to make a point when the other team actually kicked worse than we did.
