Its pleasing for the guy to say his exclusion from the side is a significant lose

Apparently Judd will play. They held off his surgery in case Essendon got booted out.

Just win it Tigers. Any way any how. Just beat that scummy footy club no matter what.
Payback for the 1972 GF
Payback for the 1982 GF
Payback for all the pain they have dished out and the smug looks on their delusional fans faces like it is a theory of Darwin's natural selection that their mob of dirty rotten sub human skatathes deserve it.
They do not deserve to be there, not that any other club deserves 8th this year. Do not give them the satisfaction of having something else over us. The time is now to roadblock any thoughts they had of progressing to week 2 of finals having been fortunate and undeserving of the privilege.

Tigers just win and do me proud. That is all I want for week 1.
We deserve this, they don't.
RFC do not let them take that honour away from us.

Tigers lets go crazy and grind them into oblivion and make the loss we had to them a few weeks back the defining moment that ultimately buries these cheats, liars, misappropriators, embezzlers, crooks, thieves, tankers and underhanded criminals.

RFC by 30 pts. :gotigers

It's got to be asked why we are playing the Sunday final and not Collingwood when we finished fifth and they sixth?

The Sunday final is a disadvantage as we would then only have a six-day break for the second week of the finals.

Lessons learned to help Tigers against Blues

By Jennifer Phelan
afl.com.au
September 2, 2013

RICHMOND will enter next Sunday's elimination final against Carlton still stinging from its round 21 capitulation against Mick Malthouse's men, captain Trent Cotchin says.

The Blues trailed the Tigers by five goals at quarter-time two weeks ago before dragging themselves back into the contest – and the finals race – after the first break to win by 10 points.

Cotchin said they Tigers weren't afraid of playing the Blues again and would go into the match having worked on the areas that let them down in that game.

"We learned a lot from that game. We've carried that through our last two weeks and we've just got to make sure we get the jump on them and consistently work on the things we have over the last two weeks," Cotchin told AFL.com.au on Saturday night after their 39-point win over Essendon.

"We weren't at our best defensively, and you build your game from defence and then get your offensive game up and going.

"We started off the game really well but let ourselves down in the following three quarters."

Cotchin also said the Tigers, the majority of whom haven't played in finals before, wouldn't be intimidated by the Blues' record against them that included 10 wins from the past 11 head-to-heads.

They'll simply go in believing in themselves after overcoming Greater Western Sydney and Essendon in the past two weeks to rebuild their confidence.

"We're confident with the way we've been playing and we know if we bring our A-game, we can take it up to the best of them," he said.

"Carlton certainly have some talent and if we can shut them down early, hopefully we can get the game on our terms.

"Confidence is good. Tonight, Essendon have had a massive year with a lot of pressure on them, but we knew they'd come out fighting.

"They're a good strong side, they've got good depth as well, so it was the perfect challenge for us going into a game knowing they had their backs against the wall and something to prove without having to play finals."

Richmond coach Damien Hardwick said the teams that lined up next Sunday would be vastly different from those in round 21.

The Tigers were without Shane Edwards, Jake King and Matt White, which robbed them of forward half pressure.

However, he acknowledged the tough contest that was sure to present itself in a week's time.

"We were missing a whole half forward line that game; they were missing [Matthew] Kreuzer, [Jeff] Garlett didn't play," Hardwick said.

"We'll take a little bit out of that with regards to some things they did … but different personnel brings up different headaches for both sides.

"We've got some challenges ahead of us, no doubt. Carlton are one such challenge this week; we've had some really close games with them in the three to four games we've played over the last two years have been decided by only a couple of goals.

"It's going to be a tough game and we'll worry about that one and then how far we go after that."

Cotchin said belief had remained constant within the group throughout the season and it was ready to take on a new challenge.

"All year, we've thought that if we played consistent footy, four quarters of tough, Richmond football, we gave ourselves a really good chance of playing finals this year," he said.

"Now it's fantastic we've finished the home-and-away season but we've got an even bigger challenge ahead of us now."

I'm feeling good about this game. The boys were heavily trained prior to last match and probably chilled knowing they were in September.

We had the same in 01 when Essendon lied down in round 22 so that they could avoid Carlton only to flog us by 70 a week later.

I believe its different this time. We can only play who is scheduled to play us. Boys have eased off but have the perfect opponent who last beat us so the boys will be psyched to avenge. For me whoever wins Sunday wins Round 1 next year bookmark it. I believe it still will be us.

I am actually somewhat confident. I have a gut feeling Newman will play and with him on the field there will be no way McClean will recreate his 3 goal performance. Really want Tuck to be in the side so we smash them in the contested ball.

Also, it hasn't been a good year for small forwards (Jake King did do OK), so pretty sure we won't get demolished by their mosquito crew.

I have us winners by 3 goals
Title: Re: Richmond vs Carlton - 1st Elimination Final 2013
Post by: tigs2011 on September 03, 2013, 11:12:00 AM
Pretty confident. We were knackered last time and we are 10 time better team than Round 1 when bad conversion stopped us being 15 goals up half way through the 3rd.

Last time we missed our own mosquito fleet. Also when Judd doesn't play the rest of that side lift knowing they actually have to do something. Hopefully Judd plays and they go back into cruise control.

Aaron Edwards is the key for mine. If he can get off the chain we will win. Other upside is with the small forwards back, Dusty should play more midfield as I felt he played too much forward last time.

Preview EF1: Tigers v Blues
By Nathan Schmook and Ben Collins
afl.com.au
September 4, 2013

SUMMARY
While Richmond (15-7) returns to the September stage for the first time since 2001, Carlton (11-11) finished ninth but will play finals in Essendon's place. It is a dramatic scenario for a match that promises plenty in front of a bumper MCG crowd. Despite Richmond's narrow win in round one, the Blues have dominated recent clashes between the arch rivals, winning 10 of the last 11 contests, including nine consecutive wins between 2008 and 2012. Chris Newman is set to play his first final after 232 games in a team with just 17 games of finals experience (all played at previous clubs). Carlton, meanwhile, has 92 combined games finals experience. In a knockout final, will form through 2013 or experience on the big stage prove more telling?

R15, 2011, Carlton 28.16 (184) d Richmond 12.9 (81) at the MCG

2013 MEETINGS

Round one at the MCG: Richmond 14.22 (106) def Carlton 14.17 (101): In a thriller befitting its round-one blockbuster status, the Tigers looked a million bucks when they stormed to a 42-point lead midway through the third term. The Blues came home hard and only a few late misses cost them victory. Brett Deledio and Ty Vickery were irresistible with three goals apiece for the winners, while Bryce Gibbs (34 touches, two goals) and Chris Judd (27 touches and two goals) dragged Carlton back into the contest.

Round 21 at the MCG: Richmond 14.12 (96) lost to Carlton 16.10 (106): This was the win that revived the Blues' finals hopes. They trailed by five goals at quarter time, but dominated thereafter at the MCG. Hard nuts Brock McLean and Mitch Robinson led the way, with Carlton winning the clearances 45-35. Tigers Trent Cotchin (knee), Ricky Petterd (left ankle) and Jack Riewoldt (right knee) suffered minor injuries. Ty Vickery booted three goals.

KEY MATCH-UPS

Ed Curnow v Trent Cotchin: Cotchin was held to a season-low 14 possessions in round 21, with Curnow drilling in on the Richmond skipper. Game-breaker Brett Deledio remains an option as the Blues' No.1 target, and he was a star in round one, kicking 3.1 from 17 possessions. Cotchin had 33 touches in that clash, with Curnow missing. The Blues may not be playing finals were it for not for Curnow's efforts in the fourth quarter against Port Adelaide. He held a rampaging Brad Ebert to two possessions after he'd racked up 21 and four goals in the first three terms.

Michael Jamison v Jack Riewoldt: In round one, Riewoldt was used in a new role, pushing high up the ground to take Jamison out of his comfort zone. The spearhead finished with 0.4 and 15 possessions, but was praised by Damien  Hardwick for his "significant" role, with Luke McGuane and Ty Vickery combining for five goals. In round 21, Riewoldt kicked his two goals and set up others early before Jamison was moved onto him, shutting the dual Coleman medallist down. Riewoldt missed the Tigers' round 23 clash with a back injury, while Jamison battled against Port's Jay Schulz (four goals).

Zach Tuohy v Dustin Martin: It was a surprise move by the Blues to use usual lockdown defender Tuohy on midfield bull Martin when they last met in round 21, but it proved a masterstroke, and one of the keys to Carlton's upset victory. Martin had averaged 29 disposals over his previous five games, but the Irishman restricted him to a career-low 10 touches and, for the first time this season, no clearances. Tuohy had 11 possessions himself and managed to kick a long goal and pump the ball inside 50 twice. Martin failed to lay a single tackle, so expect him to be more physical this time.

WILDCARDS

Richmond: Jake King
Fiery forward King has played two games after missing a month with a hamstring injury, building back into form. His value on Sunday will be in his ability to harass Carlton's defenders and create goals with his defensive pressure. A fire-starter with his physical approach, King also has the ability to lift his teammates with his enthusiasm.

Carlton: The small forwards
They are often nominated as a collective X-factor, but 'The Three Amigos' – indigenous opportunists Eddie Betts, Chris Yarran and Jeff Garlett – are very much a barometer for the Blues. Each has had his challenges this season, and have tested the patience of their coaches and fans, but there are great signs that they are ready to explode against the Tigers.

PLAN B

Richmond: Damien Hardwick is fortunate that his midfield boasts both depth and flexibility. If Deledio is targeted, he can be moved to half-back to set up play. If Martin is not involved, he can be pushed forward, where his size is a significant threat if he is playing on a smaller opponent. With midfielders like Reece Conca, Brandon Ellis, Shaun Grigg and Nick Vlastuin available, Carlton will be kept guessing as to how Deledio and Martin will be used on Sunday.

Carlton: Versatile key-position stars Lachie Henderson and Jarrad Waite provide the Blues with crucial flexibility. Coach Mick Malthouse would probably prefer to use both of his big guns in attack, but the loss of key defender Matthew Watson to injury in round 20 has forced a reshuffle. Levi Casboult has returned to the forward line, while Waite has spent time shoring up his team's defence. As a last resort, Carlton can deploy Henderson to the back half, but this would be robbing them of their chief forward target.

THE SIX POINTS

1. The Tigers have played only two previous elimination finals. In 1975 they defeated Collingwood by four points at Waverley Park, and in 1977 they defeated South Melbourne by 34 points at Waverley Park. Carlton has played in seven previous elimination finals for three wins.

2. This will be the 23rd finals clash between the Tigers and Blues and Richmond holds a clear advantage, winning 16 games to five, with one draw.

3. There’s a huge difference between the coaches when it comes to finals experience, Mick Malthouse will be coaching in his 20th final series and this will be his 51st final for 26 wins, 22 losses and two draws. Damian Hardwick will be coaching in his first final.

4. Malthouse will also create history by coaching a fourth team into the finals (Footscray, West Coast, Collingwood and now Carlton). No coach has previously achieved this.

5. The highest Elimination final attendance is 90,370 for Carlton v Essendon in 2011 at the MCG. Richmond’s highest non Grand Final attendance is 108,279 for a 1969 preliminary final against Collingwood.

6. The reinvention of midfielder Daniel Jackson has been one of the great success stories of Richmond's season. Released from his run-with duties, Jackson has averaged 22.4 possessions and shot up the Official AFL Player Ratings ladder as a result. After winning 30 possessions and kicking two goals against Essendon in round 23, he has moved to No.110 overall. Jackson started the season ranked No.254.

I hope Judd plays because he isn't that good anymore

Of all the matches from the first week of the finals, Richmond’s clash against Carlton should attract the largest crowd. Two old, fierce, rivals going toe-to-toe at the MCG in what will be a drought-breaking September appearance for the Tigers.

Consistency across four quarters has probably been the biggest issue for both of these sides and it’ll be the team who can maintain the rage, longest, who will prevail.

The Blues have the ability, but I think that the Tigers will get the result. They have earned the right to be playing on this stage and need to enjoy it as much as they can.

X-Factors: Tigers – Dustin Martin, Blues – Eddie Betts

IF ............... the moment doesn't overawe the Tigers …

Conco going so early has really affected our rotations. Its deja vous from the last game against the scum, we are running through treacle and they have twice the run. Need Titch and Kingy to take some of the load, not enough involvement. Also understand Riewoldt taking Jamison out the 50 but feel its more to our detriment than theirs.

you blokes shouldnt be so upset. lets be honest here we have lost to them 8 of the last 10 times or something.  And that is the result of them having players like Robinson and Bell and afew others who whilst just being average players they have what we can call a presence about them. We dont have that in our team. We think we have tough players but we dont. Thats the reality and thats why we always lose to Carlton.

Bitterly disappointed but sadly part of me isn't surprised. Could feel it coming in the 3rd. How they could not stand someone next to Judd in the 3rd that ended up gifting them 2 clearances and 2 really soft goals was the turning point for mine. Judd gave them leadership when they needed it while at the same time ours went missing.

That IMV was the difference and losing Conca so early.

Can i also say some blokes went missing big time as the game went on

Just got home.

Obviously dissapointed in letting the game slip. What makes it worse is its Carlton. What makes it even worse is they qualified by default.

First and foremost the players have to take responsibility. Too many passengers today. The two which immediatly come to mind are Shane Edwards and Kingy. Very quiet. Compare that to Carltons small forwards.

Morris had a shocker, riewoldt what can I say still injured, Ellis was quiet, Grigg was nowhere and I would have thought Newman would be more pumped.

Ill also add my agreement to Vickery, aka Mr Cameo. By far not our worst but gee whiz he gets so many opportunities his hands are almost criminal and hence he doesnt kick bags.

Im baffled that we could let the same script play out against Carlton. What measures were put in place to prevent this? Were they adhered to?

I thought the Umpiring was interesting. A bit each way, they let patches go which was good but there were some shockers. Probably below finals standard.

Other than that, it was an awesome day in the sun amongst the loudest Richmond crowd ever! Well be back.

And please no more cast offs from other clubs who are really just average footballers.
As for today I reckon our backline was horrible.Morro and grimesy played like they were wearing ice skates.
grigg ,ellis and titch weren't to be seen.
Agreed Ty played some dumb football today.he continues to get under the ball which reduces his chance of marking it by half
Lastly they all need to have a a look at cotch how he throws himself about...that's desperation

We lost this with White injured but we had a chance to still bring Foley in. We needed runners as the Blues just keep on outrunning us. Three times this year now.
Furthermore not enough from Grigg, Titch, Pettard,Tuck,Jako and Vickery despite his three goals at times looked like the Benny Hill show. This so called second tier that has been applauded at times this season let us down when we needed them most compared to the Carlton second tier and first tier who took the sword to us in the scond half.

What will make us a better side and kill sides off is when we are on top our second tier is making quality contributions because if our first tier fall away we get exposed. That will ensure we win more games and win more convincingly.

Live and learn next year Tiggers.

I saw it in the second despite our lead I just felt they were running better than us. Blokes like Armfield, Scotland,Walker who were nowhere near it started getting it and then Murphy Gibbs and Judd started to get their hand on it.

Thought Cotch's goal on half time was critical at the time. Alas it was just one of our goals in a game which had a 51 point turnaround in the last 50 minutes that we lost.

What makes this worse is as Dooks said in his post yep it's Carlton and they got in by default.
What has not been lost on me is Brissy lost by a point and the Blues came from the clouds to beat Port and now both of them are through and we are licking our wounds.
Carlton malakies Carlton.
Another chapter in the Carlton has it over us stakes. It really hurts.

To be honest ,when we tried to slow the game down so as to neutralise their run,i thought it was laughable. It did nothing other than delay what was inevitable by then

The Cameo King, Vickery
Jake King was he out there today?
Shane Edwards
Steve Morris was terrible
Shaun Griff was well typical Griff

Want me to go?

yeah coz I think they werent the only ones who werent up to finals footy today although Vickery did some nice things in the first half.

Sorry I had to disappear for a bit

I will add:

Houli - disposal was woeful at times, his long kicking is his strength and refused to go long at times
Ellis - seems overawed by the occasion. That sitter he dropped in the 2nd summed it up
Petterd - to be honesty I wasn't exactly sure what his role was and I don't think he did either
Newman - clear as day he wasn't fit. No place for sentiment in finals

In second half we lost all run. As soon as we let Judd, Gibbs and Robinson into the game it spelt disaster. Really missed White. Conca going down in first quarter was a disaster. Affected rotations. Kicking out of defence in second half very poor. Carlton got it out of defence with ease. Need a small crumbing forward. The indigenous small forwards from Carlton destroyed us. They set up goals and roved the packs.  Decision to leave out Foley strange. Decision to play at times Vlas on Judd was wrong. Morris was not his usual self made some uncharacteristic mistakes. Rance and Chaplain tried hard. Cotchin, Martin and Maric were good. Carlton were much more experienced than us and taught us a lesson. Need to learn from the experience and continue to improve.

If I hear we missed Conca again I will fair dinkum spew

Reality is good sides find a way to win

Plenty of games where sides go 2 down here yet find another leg

Facts are we are rubbish and hardwick and the players embarrassed the jumper

To all the other tigers fans out there with bruised ego's and sore knuckles from punching seats on the way out, you're not alone.

The last time the Carltank filth beat us a couple of weeks back I punched the seat next to me in frustration, and this Richmond BITCH behind me threatened to break my jaw if I did it again. Nice huh? I told her to go eff herself as I exited the ground.
You better believe I gave the turnstile a good kick as I left in a fury yesterday. :banghead

After a long year & players carrying injury into a final. Some suffering crowd anxiety & preasure put on them to perform l expected no more than what the players could give. l'm proud of them making the finals & l will be back next year supporting the players & club with hope of doing better. We can beat anyone on our day, But we do not have the players developed to close out sides. We are still building a great team & molding them together. 15 wins in a year is a great effort & some good wins over teams like Hawthorn & Fremantle. When you cant get everyone up for the day its very hard. Don't be hard on the club, players or the fans. It takes time to build a great side & with having our own Reserves side next year will make all the difference. Our new facilities will help build our players stronger & fitter to close out games, hopefully while our window is open we will take the chance unlike the rapists side  ;D  :gotigers  :birthday

I'm Absolutely gutted but I'll be back supporting the boys next year!!  :gotigers

As soon as we started getting murdered in the clearances I knew we were in trouble. Judd and Gibbs both lifted at exactly the same time and they killed us. And then we try to play this tempo crap. In finals there is only one tempo that will win you the game and that is 100% pedal to the metal from start to finish. Never take your hand off the oppositions throat! As soon as we lifted the footy over our head it turned into a friggin white flag!!!  :banghead All our players just stopped like it was some sort of bloody time out!!! It was a sign of weakness that the Carlton players picked up on and they saw their opportunity to pounce and took it!!

If I see our players hold the ball over their head one more time, I'll throw a friggin dart at it!!

It seems us losing on the weekend will cost the AFL a million dollars in lost revenue.

Give Essendon a 3 million dollar fine. Let Waco Hill pay for it.
This has all arisen due to the Essendon drug lab.
They have ruined the game in so many ways.

Choco talking about that crowd ....

“I played with Port Adelaide, when they were the Magpies in the SANFL, and they were the biggest thing in town.  I played in the 1981 Grand Final for Collingwood (against Carlton) and there were 112,000 there.  But the noise that we had at our game against Carlton a few weeks back, was just out of this world,” Mark Williams told ‘Roar Vision’.

“I sit on the bench, and stand there, and honestly, I feel like jumping on top of the fence and get the crowd going because they are so good.

“I tell Jack (Riewoldt) and a few of the others – even ‘Dimma’ (Damien Hardwick) to waltz down to the Punt Road end (of the MCG) at three-quarter time and get the crowd going, because it’s amazing.  I reckon they can add five goals to us and get us over the line.

“If our crowd can keep understanding how valuable they are, and what they might be able to do as far as chanting is concerned, I think they could really add to the atmosphere and get the boys going.”
