St Kilda Pick 1
CHRISTIAN PETRACCA | EASTERN RANGES
Age: 18
Height: 186cm
Weight: 92kg
Powerful inside midfielder/forward who is strong overhead and a clearance star. Motivated and determined, he breaks tackles with his agility and strength, tackles well and his kicking is an asset. Victoria Metro MVP and Larke medallist in the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships; averaged 25 touches, five marks and five clearances in his five appearances and won All Australian honours. Ran a personal best 14.12 in the beep test at the NAB AFL Draft Combine, finished fourth in the standing vertical jump with a leap of 74cm, but pulled out of the 3km time trial with hip soreness mid-race.

Melbourne
This team is in a world of pain, in 2014 they averaged 8.6 goals per game, since 2000 the only team to score lower than this is GWS in 2012 on their entry year. You heard right and that means even Gold Coast in their first year managed more average goals.
With a plethora of draft picks either not being up to scratch, walking out, having mental issues from going to the club only to sign with another club it is vital that these draft picks are right.
No 2. Angus Brayshaw
The Demons have long been linked to Angus and it is no surprise he is the Demons first pick, a big strong midfielder who can go forward and kick goals as well is seen as an important player to help out the ageing and overworked captain Nathan Jones
No 3. Patrick McCartin
To win games you have to kick goals and kicking 8.6 average wont win diddly squat and this is where young Paddy comes into play, a strong KPF who can get the scoreboard ticking
-
4. GWS - Peter Wright (Height: 203cm, Weight: 102kg, DOB: 08/09/1996, Recruited from: Calder Cannons).
The Giants will be looking to restock their depth in talls after the loss of Boyd, Jaksch, Frost and with Patton injured. Wright provides a young good sized ruckman who also shares the rare ability to play key forward. He's an excellent kick both in terms of passing and depth around the ground and at goal which is rare for a 203cm tall footballer. Wright is very good below his knees and has great running capacity. Tap work ability to clear space and hit to advantage both at centre bounces and around the ground. The question marks of him are he can drift in and out games where he'll dominates for periods then have periods of little influence. He's good on a lead but his 1-on-1 marking needs to become a bit more consistent. That should come with AFL club training which will lose any remaining puppy fat and get him to build up his upper body strength and make maximum use of his size.
VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9is5wRvGDdI
Ian Kyte, Calder Cannons talent manager: "He's got to be in the mix for No.1. You don't see guys with the sort of speed and agility that he has, at his size, and his endurance is really good as well. People will debate whether he's a tall forward or a ruckman, but he can do both, he can be that big, quick forward who can go into the ruck as needed. He'll need to become a bit more consistent with his marking but his kicking is absolutely elite. It's a huge feature of his game and there aren't many better kicks than him around."

Waiting......
-
5 Collingwood – Jayden Laverde(Height:189cm, Weight:82kg, D.O.B 4/12/1996 – Midfielder/Utility) Recruited from Western Jets
After losing Beams and nabbing the best KPF prospect in the draft with father son pick Darcy Moore, pies are looking to shore up some midfield class and speed with their 1st pick.
Laverde has pace, athleticism, x factor and can fill a variety of roles forward and back. He has linebreaker written all over him with his elite pace and long kick. We feel in time he can develop into a classy tall inside/outside midfielder who can also take a strong mark and kick goals.

Sorry guys.
6. GWS - Jake Lever (05/03/1996, 193cm, 84kg, Calder Cannons)
Position: Key defender
Sticking with the restocking of talls theme. Of all the top potential draftees, Lever is the one who comes with the greatest reward vs risk, coming off a knee reconstruction (operation last December). He made his name in junior footy in 2013 as a competitive and aggressive key defender who can shut down opponents while also providing good rebound as he switches from defensive mode to attack mode quickly. Reminds of a Jake Carlisle at Essendon. Very agile for his height, good skills, strong hands in a marking contest and reads the game well. The only guide to his current fitness is his draft combine results where he ran 3.19 in the 20-metre sprint and 10:32 for the three-kilometre time trial. The Giants may be a bit cautious taking on another kid coming off a reco when they have Patton out already but Lever is the best tall defender in the draft and he will be hungry and ready to go when he is eventually drafted.

Ian Kyte, Calder Cannons: "Jake had his knee reconstructed in December. He's back in training now and he'll be ready to go when he gets to a club. Had he played this year he would possibly have been the No. 1 selection. He's a tall, aggressive, competitive key defender who's a really good leader. He might have even spent some time in the midfield this year had he been able to play. His leadership qualities have improved this year even though he hasn't been able to play and he hasn't missed a beat with his recovery. He does everything right, to the point we had to force him to take a break at times."

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
7. Paul Ahern (01/08/1996, 181cm, 77kg, Calder Cannons)
The AFL biography is spot on about Ahern - "a classy smooth moving midfielder with excellent balance and running capacity. Has an innate ability to make the difficult look easy, is dangerous when he pushes forward and can kick long goals on the run. Has an excellent mix of speed and endurance and can play inside or outside". Ahern reminds me of a mix of Steele Sidebottom and Shane Burgoyne. He'll be a great addition to the Giants' midfield.
VIDEO: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=79HcC4J-FJw
Ian Kyte, Calder Cannons: "Paul has elite speed and agility. He's a really good mark for his size and he's the one who can kick the goal to finish things off. He needs to work on becoming more consistent from week to week and even during games but I think he's come in a long way. He had a really big test in the TAC Cup grand final when he got a pretty heavy knock. If that had happened 12 months ago it would have been the end of him, but he's really matured and he handled that well and came on and really tried to get us back into the game."

8. Gold Coast
Lachie Weller
Midfielder
Club: Broadbeach
H: 181 cm W: 71 kg
This selection fits like a glove for both Weller and the Suns.
The dynamic young midfielder is a member of Gold Coast's academy, spent two months training with the club's senior squad last summer, and knows many of the Suns' players.
The 18-year-old's traits are obvious: he uses the ball nicely, thinks quickly, marks well above his head and athletically is very good (he has tested 2.92 in the 20-metre sprint). Weller can be used off the wing but also in the middle, and is best at setting up the play with his efficient disposal.
He'll be a welcome addition to the plethora of riches already in the Suns midfield. We couldn't be happier to have snared the local lad.

Pick 10
Jarrod Pickett

Explosively quick livewire forward with outstanding agility.

Age: 17 Games: 6
Height: 193cm Goals: 1
Weight: 85kg Avg Kicks: 8.6

Avg H'balls: 4.8
The inside word
Competitive tall defender with excellent mobility and repeat efforts. Anticipates well coming off his man to support his defence and strong overhead. Continues his recovery from a meniscus injury in his knee, which ruled him out of the last part of the TAC Cup season. Averaged 14 disposals and four marks in six games in the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships. Can also push forward and provide a marking target. Won All Australian Under-18 honours.

Pick 12 Richmond
Nakia Cockatoo- NT Thunder
I just had to do it!
Player bio 2014
Age: 18
Height: 185cm
Weight: 86kg
Pos: Forward
Powerful medium midfielder with elite evasive skills. Can lose his opponent easily. Stress fracture in foot caused him to miss NAB AFL Under-18 Championships after impressing in 2013. NAB AFL Academy Level 2 member squad. Among top performers at NAB AFL Draft Combine, recording the best score in both the kicking test (29/30) and repeat sprint (23.93 sec), 2.90 sec in the 20m sprint, 73cm in the standing vertical jump and 89cm in the running vertical jump.
-
Fremantle Pick 13:
Sam Durdin
H 197cm W 87kg
West Adelaide
Given the Dockers soon to be departing talls we are thrilled to see Sam Durdin still on the board who we believe is one of the best KPP's in this years draft.
Possessing great mobility, he's an excellent kick and a fine contested mark who can play at either end of the park.

14. Adelaide - Brayden Maynard (20/09/1996, 186cm, 88kg, Sandringham Dragons)
Connected closely to Adelaide as Brayden is the son of former Glenelg footballer Peter Maynard but narrowly missed out on being a father/son to the Crows as Peter needed to have played just 4 games more for Brayden to qualify.
Brayden is a left footer with powerful kick, excellent evasive skills and rarely beaten one on one. His penetration and accuracy in his disposal allows him to be the designated kick out of defensive 50. He can also play as a midsized forward is a strong tackler. Averaged 15 disposals and five tackles in his three under-18 championship games.

Ryan O'Connor, Sandringham Dragons: "Brayden really enhanced his reputation during the finals. He was already very high credentialled but he finished off the season amazingly well in some big games, his kicking was elite and he's always been competitive so we think he's one who has really elevated himself. He doesn't have the best endurance so he'll be challenged to improve that - it's not bad but it's not elite - but his contested stuff is fantastic, he has really good game sense and because his kicking is right at the elite end it gives him a huge chance. He was able to influence games as a bottom ager last year, he's done more of that this year and when Angus Brayshaw got injured late in the year he put his had up to be captain and really rose to the occasion. He has some of those intangible characters, a real bit of spunk."

Gold Coast
Pick 15: Kyle Langford
H: 190cm W: 73kg
This year's bolter, Langford is a versatile utility who can play either forward or back.
Likened by some to Marcus Bontempelli, Langford is a dashing player who makes things happen. He is a terrific mark and has sure footskills.
The Suns are happy to ad another potential matchwinner to their list.

Pick 17 Essendon: Liam Duggan
The bombers wont believe their luck when this top 10 pick slides to 17. Beautifully balanced and with a deadly left foot this bottom aged draftee oozes class. Is very composed with the ball in hand and makes good decisions.

Is Pickett going to play for two clubs? Cats (pick 10) won't be too happy about that. ;D

Pick 18 Isaac Heeney (NSW Academy selection)
-
Pick 19: Carlton: Jordan De Goey
Fantastic get by the blues. This player is a very damaging kick and extremely strong overhead for his size. Reads the play well and could easily have been picked in the first dozen. Also plays well in big games with great performances in the TAC cup finals.

Pick 20: Essendon. Jarrod Garlett
The Bombers want speed and speed is what they get with Garlett. One of the best run and carry players in the draft. Some rate him higher than his indigenous partner in crime Jarrod Pickett, Garlett is a pure outside mid. Silky skills allow him to play that outside role well as he rarely fumbles. The Bombers will be happy to restock their indigenous talent. If he kicked more goals he would have gone much higher in this draft.
-
Pick 18 Isaac Heeney (NSW Academy selection)
hes the best mid in the draft imo and the grandfinalists get him dirt cheap. the strong just keep on getting stronger.

St Kilda
Pick 21: COREY ELLIS (Western Jets)
Ht: 185cm
Wt: 76kgs
We are genuinely surprised to see Copey available at pick 21
From: http://www.afl.com.au/draft/draft-machine
The inside word: Left-footed medium midfielder who is a star at the clearances with his clean hands and makes quick and correct decisions. Uses the ball well by hand and foot and has good game sense. Averaged 14 disposals and four tackles in his five matches in the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships. Missed the late part of the season with a foot injury, which forced him out of testing at the NAB AFL Draft Combine.
Pick 22: TOM LAMB (Dandenong Strigrays)
Ht: 193cm
Wt: 84kgs
We need a tall forward and we believe Tom can develop into long term KPF
From: http://www.afl.com.au/draft/draft-machine
Tall forward/midfielder with elite endurance, excellent goal sense, footy nous and strong hands overhead.
-
23. GWS - Connor Blakely (Height: 186cm, Weight: 81kg, DOB: 03/02/1996, Club: Swan Districts, WA)
Blakely is a prolific ball-winning inside midfielder who excels at stoppages. He has top endurance, is exceptionally well-balanced and strong in the hips, and is evasive in traffic, which enables him to keep his feet under pressure, side-step oncoming tacklers and dispose of the ball cleanly to teammates on the outside. The main question mark on Blakely his his pace but his vision and evasiveness in traffic enable him to still enables him to win clearances and find time and space.
Unlike many of the other young draftees, Blakely already has experience playing against men having played regular senior football for Swan Districts in the WAFL this year where he averaged 18 possessions from his 14 matches. So he's ready to go round 1, 2015, which will suit the developing Giants' midfield. In the Under 18 Championships, Blakely was clearly WA's best midfielder, where he averaged 21 disposals at 79% efficiency, seven clearances and 5.5 tackles and as a result was rewarded with All-Australian honours.

ARTICLES: http://www.afl.com.au/news/2014-11-06/meet-connor-blakely
Raff Guadagnino, WAFL: "Connor is one of the most rounded people and players we've had this year. He watched him as a 16-year-old playing half-back and half-forward but he's turned himself into a really good inside midfielder since then which is a really good achievement. He's very professional, an intelligent kid who has that bit of presence about him in the group."

-
W. Bulldogs- pick 26 Oscar McDonald North Ballarat Rebels Victoria
18.3.1996 Height: 196cm Weight: 84kg
Like an eight-hundred metre runner sprinting home on the final lap, Oscar McDonald’s late charge saw the versatile star top the TAC Cup Coaches Award with 30 votes.
McDonald, the younger brother of Melbourne FC defender Tom McDonald, won the TAC cup coaches award despite missing action in the first halve of the season.
With an ability to haul in contested marks and mix it with the best forwards in the competitions, McDonald could prove the perfect option for The doggies who are looking for a robust defender.
But at 196cm, he has also proved a handful for opposition backman, with the ability to win the ball on ground level as well as in the air.
-
W. Bulldogs pick 27 - Touk Miller (Calder Cannons)
Height: 177 cm
Weight: 80 kg
Position: Midfielder/Forward
Miller, this years Vic Metro Captain, is simply too good a player for the doggies to let slip beyond their seconpd pick, especially having snared a promising key back at pick 26. He is a powerful on-baller with a strong trunk and legs that make it difficult for him to be pushed off the ball at contests. In 13 TAC Cup games this season, he averaged 22 disposals and five clearances.
He's best inside those stoppages, using his quick hands to get the footy and dish it out. He also likes to push forward when he can, and he averaged a goal a game in the TAC Cup this season, including three goals in the Cannons' Grand Final defeat.
One-on-one Miller is hard to get around: his core strength and dogged attitude is difficult to counter.
Miller ran 10:19 for the three-kilometre time trial at the NAB AFL Draft Combine and uses that aerobic capacity to defend well across the ground, a trait easy to miss but important nonetheless.
-

yep really like him
sheesh i wish we had another pick in the late teens or twenties.

what are the chances of him slipping to our 2nd pick? seems he's rated in the 2nd round so may be a chance?
Given that our club has publicly stated we are looking to boost midfield stocks, would we draft quality tall prospects if they fell to our picks?

Pick 28: Calton. Damien Cavka
Another mid for the blues. Damien had a great last half of the year. One of the fittest players in the draft Cavka just goes and goes and goes. He can hit the scoreboard too.
-
Gold Coast Pick 29
Daniel McKenzie
Athletic midfielder with speed, endurance and agility. Versatile enough to play on small and tall opponents. Shows good game sense and awareness. Amassed 18 possessions and three marks at 89 per cent efficiency against Vic Country in NAB AFL Under-18 Championships. Finished second in the agility run (8.10 sec), third in running vertical jump (94cm), fourth in repeat sprint (24.02 sec) and equal-sixth the 3km time trial (10:07) at NAB AFL Draft Combine.
-
Collingwood Pick 30 - Reece Mckenzie 196cm – 100kg – Tall Forward
We are stoked Reece is still available. Reece McKenzie is a huge lad. His marking is a real feature. He kicked 35.20 behinds in the TAC cup this year. He’s also a very good mark on the lead and is extremely quick off the mark (2.87 second 20m sprint). We feel we have sewn up our KPF stocks with Reece and Darcy this draft.

Reckon they would be happy with that.
crisp, varcoe, and greenwood and likely a mid at pick 5 shores up their mids, you can throw scharenberg in there as well as he will virtually be a new recruit after injury this yr.
it leaves em free to target talls in the nd with f/s moore pick 30 and 48.

Yep and don't forget Freeman as well, like Scharenberg his debut season was ruined by injury. Explosive mid who I reckon will be a gun

Ok let's keep this rolling.
Hawthorn Pick 31:- Alex Neal-Bullen
Height: 183cm
Weight: 80kg
From: Glenelg, South Australia
Position: Midfielder
The reigning premiers weakness if any is it's slightly ageing inside midfield. Whilst he was tipped to go slightly later than late second round, the hawks have done their homework with this ready made mid.
Alex led all of his peers at the U18 Championships for total clearances.
After a 2013 season spent in the SANFL reserves, Neal-Bullen made his SANFL league debut for Glenelg in the opening round of the 2014 season and remained there until a minor foot injury kept him out in Round 4. For Glenelg, Neal-Bullen played primarily across half back with the occasional stint in the midfield. For an 18 year old against much more senior opposition, he performed really quite well - 15 disposals a match, along with 5 marks, 2 tackles and 2 clearances a game. He quickly established himself as a small defender, but playing for South Australia in the U18 Championships he would go back to his customary midfield position - where he went on to average 20 disposals, 5 clearances and 4 tackles a game and was arguably South Australia's #1 midfielder. And by ticking off defender and midfielder this year, Neal-Bullen can now lay claim to being a true utility - having also spent time in past seasons as a small forward.
From a purely athletics standpoint, endurance is Neal-Bullen's obvious strength. However, it's his football brain which is perhaps his biggest advantage. In the midfield, he is a really smart player and he is one of those players who looks better in close and under pressure. He can read the gaps better than most, and just has that knack of getting the ball through to one of his outside receivers, which suits the hawks style of play.
-
Next up, Go Richo with WCs pick and then the highly anticipated 2nd pick for the Tiges. Will we pick indigenous players up with our first 2 picks?
-
Pick 32 West Coke
Ed Vickers- Willis
Age: 18 Height: 190cm
Weight: 82kg Pos: Defender
Tall defender with excellent athleticism. Makes good decisions defensively when spoiling or marking, as well as setting up play. Adapted to various roles this year, playing deep in defence, across half-back and tagging in midfield. Recorded a score of 26/30 in the kicking test at the NAB AFL Draft Combine. Had consistent NAB AFL Under-18 Championships, averaging 16 touches at 81 per cent efficiency in five matches and winning All Australian honours.
-
Pick 33
Richmond
Dillon Viojo-Rainbow
Age: 18 Height: 185cm Weight: 80kg Pos: Defender/ Midfield
Medium defender/midfielder with an elite left-foot kick. Sees the game well and makes smart decisions. Can also push forward and kicks long goals. Clean and effective by hand. Averaged 13 possessions in five matches at 73 per cent efficiency in NAB AFL Under-18 Championships. Averaged 17 disposals in 12 games for Western Jets at TAC Cup level.
And.........
He is a classy left foot kick who certainly has the running capacity to play AFL........has high end speed and good endurance.....played 14 games for the Western Jets and was named in the best 11 times so his consistency is a real asset. A defender who can play in the midfield. He will suit Richmond who are looking for a line breaking, skillful, running defender.

I just felt that our excellent record of developing indigenous players would justify these drafting decisions. :shh
Seriously though, they fit our recruiting needs.
-
Pick 19: Carlton: Jordan De Goey
Fantastic get by the blues. This player is a very damaging kick and extremely strong overhead for his size. Reads the play well and could easily have been picked in the first dozen. Also plays well in big games with great performances in the TAC cup finals.
if chasing a mid and laverde who i really like was gone no will be gone then this bloke is the one id take at 12 if taking a mid. genuine ball winner versatile and a lovely size.
doesnt seem to be a lot of love about the place for him though to go in the top 10.

Fremantle pick 34
Harrison Wigg
Height: 179 cm
Weight: 74 kg
Position: Defender/midfielder
Beautiful kick of the football. The Dockers think Wigg will be well suited to Subiaco.
Wigg, who ran at the highest disposal efficiency at the National Championships, finished with 18.6 disposals at a top line efficiency of 79 per cent, 3.3 marks, 2.3 tackles, 1.3 clearances and two inside 50s off his six games for the Croweaters. The performances saw him take home not only South Australia’s MVP, but also All Australian honours.

-
35. Adelaide - Toby McLean (18 y.o., 179cm, 72kg, Oakleigh Chargers)
Position: Midfielder/Forward.
McLean is the fairytale draft story. Cut from the Dandenong Stingray's preseason squad, he gets a second chance at Oakleigh Chargers and grabs the opportunity. McLean starts attracting attention from AFL recruiters due to his ability to take speckies. One such speckie goes viral on the net. He further enhances his draft chances with standout performances in the TAC Cup finals, culminating in a best on ground effort in the TAC Cup Grand Final racking up 21 disposals, 9 marks and 2 goals which scores him the TAC Medal. All up McLean averaged 22 disposals from 20 TAC Cup games and kicked 32 goals. In the draft combine, he finished equal-third in the kicking test (27/30).
Crafty around goal, agile and a prolific ball-winner, his natural x-factor and an aptitude for development shows there's plenty of upside for McLean.

http://www.afl.com.au/video/2014-07-15/speccy-specialist-a-draft-bolter
Mark Smart, Oakleigh Chargers: "Toby deserves a lot of credit for his commitment and perseverance. He wasn't on a list at the start of the year after he got cut from Dandenong so he came into our group where he didn't know anyone and kept chasing his dream. He can take some high-flying marks and his game awareness is a big strength, he knows when the ball's coming into his area and where his opponent is, so he's two steps ahead of the game all the time. His work in traffic and decision making is really good and he's really been able to handle everything that's been thrown at him in terms of playing as a medium forward and graduating into the midfield. He's had an outstanding year, he can do some really special things when it's needed and I wasn't here when Robbie Gray was around but he's the one a lot of people have compared him to."

Age: 18 Games: 3
Height: 197cm Goals: 7
Weight: 88kg Avg Kicks: 8.6
Pos: Forward Avg Marks: 7.3
Avg H'balls: 1.6
Tall forward with strong hands in front, on the lead and overhead. Has good pace off the mark to get separation on his opponent. Showed promise in the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships, averaging 10 disposals, seven marks and two goals in three matches. Finished equal-seventh in the running vertical jump (87cm) at the NAB AFL Draft Combine. NAB AFL Academy Level 2 member and in Lions Academy.

Geelong Pick 47 Alex Markov 187cm 75kg
Absolute speed machine with good hands and excellent kicking skills. Son of an Olympic and World Champion Pole Volter. Broke his collarbone twice this year but has tremendous speed and enducance
like this kid as well.saw abit of him as a 16 yr old if we are chasing speed hes up there. hes missed a bit of footy with injury but a few yrs ago i would have thought him a top 10 20 possibility.

59. Adelaide - Matthew Goodyear (D.O.B. 20/07/1996, Height: 185 cm, Weight: 77 kg, Calder Cannons)
Extremely athletic medium midfielder with elite speed, endurance, awareness and elite hands in traffic. His drive and rebound from half-back as well as through the midfield often breaks the game open. He was purely an outside player in 2013 but has worked hard this year to the point where his inside/outside spread is 50/50. Averaged 21.3 disposals per game from his 15 TAC Cup appearances for Calder Cannons including featuring in the bests 10 times as he did much of the grunt and clearance work in the centre of the ground. Starred for Vic Metro against Vic Coutry in the National Championships racking up 23 disposals, nine contested possessions, seven inside 50’s and five clearances before copping an injury which limited his game time in his other two matches for Vic Metro. Weakness is his inconsistency in disposal by foot which is why he'll slip to a late pick but given his attitude and demonstration over the past 12 months to improve his game and turn weaknesses into strengths, he'll be an attractive proposition to develop for the club that drafts him.

Nathan Drummond
The inside word
Medium midfielder with good speed and elite endurance. Played well as a 19-year-old in two matches in NAB AFL Under-18 Championships, averageing 15 disposals in two appearances. Played 12 games for Murray Bushrangers at TAC Cup level, averaging 26 touches and kicking 11 goals. A standout at the NAB AFL Draft Combine, finishing first in the clean hands test (26/30) and second in both the repeat sprint (23.95 sec) and beep test (level 15.9). Was equal-second in the kicking test (27/30), goalkicking test (25/30) and standing vertical jump (76cm), fifth in both the running vertical jump (90cm) and 3km time trial (9:59) and equal-sixth in the 20m sprint (2.93 sec).
-
Pick 61 - Carlton
Sean McLaren
197cm - 92kg - Tall Defender/Ruckman/Tall Forward
Kept Hugh Goddard quiet when playing as a key defender. He could be useful as key defender/key forward depth for Carlton. Is athletic for a big guy.
-
62. Essendon Rookie promotion - Patrick Ambrose
63. Brisbane Academy selection - Harris Andrews
64. W.Bulldogs Father-Son - Zaine Cordy
Pick 65. Carlton
Aidan Anderson
182cm - 83kg - Half Forward/Small Forward
Aidan Anderson is a good smaller forward type doesn't solely rely on roving or crumbing to snag a goal, he can lead up and take a mark or take a strong grab in a one on one. Has a very strong body already at 182cm and 83kg, much like many other young WA boys who have had WAFL experience.

Pick 67 - Brisbane
DECLAN HAMILTON - North Adelaide
HT: 182cm
WT: 68kg
Plays off HB, great ball user and a nephew of the Jarman brothers. Played nearly every game at the national championship and is considered a "bolter" on this year draft
-
Pick 68- Hawthorn Promoted Rookie Zac Webster
Pick 69 West Coast- Brenden Abbott (Claremont)
Played 15 senior matches for Claremont in the WAFL this year. Kicked 18 goals playing predominantly up forward, including a bag of five and a bag of four. Strong-bodied aggressive forward with a ferocious attack on the ball. He's capable of taking a strong mark and is a thumping left-foot kick. Would make a bullocking midfielder at AFL level but there are question marks over his fitness and discipline. However, he did apply himself well at Claremont this season.
Pick 70 Richmond Michael Manteit
I was tempted to pass and hope for a mature age player in the pre season draft but will stick with youth as the club said they wished to invest in the draft.
Manteit has forged his early reputation by doing the little things coaches love. While the medium-sized defender reads the ball well and can drop off his man to influence contests, his desire to do the team things _ chasing, tackling and spoiling _ make him a favourite of teammates and the coaching staff. Has played predominantly at half-back where he can use his good kicking skills to set-up attacking forays from defence.
-
Pick 73 Port Adelaide
Dougal Howard (Murray Bushrangers)
Tall Forward
Age: 18, Height: 195cm, Weight: 88kg
Key point: Excellent target inside 50, overhead marking is a strength.

Pick 84 Richmond
Isaac Muller
I have chosen instead of passing, just for fun.
Isaac is from my area and has been a gun all his life. He is not quite tall enough for a straight out ruck role but may develop into a forward who can help out in the ruck. He is a long term prospect and fans will need to be patient.
Originally from Henty, Isaac would have played against Milesy at his original club, Howlong and moved to same club that miles moved to in the ovens and Murray, north Albury, coached by aker.
-
Pick 85 Port Adelaide
Nick Mellington (Murray Bushrangers)
Midfielder
Age: 18, Height: 187cm, Weight: 88kg
The in-and-under midfielder, is a strong left-foot kick, good decision-maker and prolific ball-winner.

Bummer wanted another pick. Well done OE.

Now for the dissection.
Which team drafted well despite not necessarily having the best picks?
I reckon Gold Coast and Essendon have some good value picks.
The Saints have done well too

we at nm are very happy with our selections.
12 hugh goddard- this kid looks a great possibility in defense. great size and looks to be a fb in the making who is capable of playing on the big power fwds.he is also capable of providing some rebound he addresses our biggest need. he has great closing speed for the role and consistenly has shown an ability to shut down his opponents. hes good in the air and hes agile can jump and reads the ball well. everything imo you want in a potential fb.
25 connor menadue. at 188cm and likely to grow a few more cms we think we have the current prototype mid fielder. hes very slight atm but he has the right sort of frame that says he will bulk up. this kid is explosive has a huge upside and we are prepared to wait the 2 or 3 seasons it will take for him to step up.has real pace has great skills has great evasive skills uses the ball well even under pressure and to top it off hes a goalkicking mid. he would also translate to a fine hb. geez a bloke with his pace and footskills coming off hb.
its not all beer and skittles though. his size is a concern. hes 69kg and to go from 69 to say ideal playing weight of 88kg you do ask if he will lose anything. the other thing i hate, atm he doest get a lot of contested ball but at 69kg you can understand that.
36 tyler kietel. over the moon to get this kid here. can play either end but we envision him being a fwd. great mover finds plenty of ball for a tall is good in the air and will become a kpp in time.
56 wow a total steal at this pick the only comment here is we think this kid should have gone late 1st rnd to mid 2nd round. if we dont end up with a mid i reckon we got a fantastic hb player.
