EXCLUSIVE: NORTH Melbourne and Richmond are prepared to offer Greater Western Sydney midfielder Adam Treloar six-year deals to lure the dazzling youngster home to Victoria.
The Herald Sun revealed the Tigers and Roos have both pitched bumper long-term deals to nab the out-of-contract Giant, after missing out on star Swan Daniel Hannebery.
Collingwood is also a strong suitor for Treloar and has reportedly offered a five-year contract worth $700,000 — $750,000 a season.
The three Victorian clubs head the race to secure the line-breaking on-baller in a bid to add extra polish and class to their midfield brigades.
The Giants have their hands tied by a tight salary cap and will likely demand an early first-round draft pick in return for the blossoming 22-year-old.
The Herald Sun has confirmed the Pies will not put up young ruckman Jarrod Witts as trade bait to secure Treloar.
-
Rest of article....
Witts, who is from New South Wales, looms as an obvious trade target for the Giants to help support first-choice ruckman Shane Mumford.
But the Pies are set to open fresh contract talks with Witts to extend his stay at Westpac Centre beyond the end of next season, putting the 209cm big man off-limits.
Treloar has made clear to the Giants that he wants to stay up north and help guide the fledgling club to finals in coming years.
But the fast-rising Giants appear unable to match the attractive terms being offered by Richmond and North Melbourne, likely forcing Treloar to move home.
GWS has little room to move in its salary cap after tying up a clutch of young stars including star spearhead Jeremy Cameron and classy on-baller Dylan Shiel.
For Treloar to stay at Greater Western Sydney, he would have to accept considerably less than he is worth on the open market.
The Tigers have confirmed they have built a war chest in recent years to make a strike at a prime midfielder, such as Treloar, and top-off their premiership tilt.
Richmond list guru Blair Hartley said in November the Tigers would “hopefully have the space to attack the (player) market in the next two or three years”.
North Melbourne coach Brad Scott said the Roos would also look at their trade options.
“Potentially this year we look at some trading opportunities because of the platform we have been able to build over the last seven or eight years,” Scott said.
From Dandenong Stingrays, Treloar finished fourth in the Giants best and fairest last season.
He has averaged 28 possessions and almost one goal a game this year and is considered one of the best under-23 year old midfielders in the game.
The Giants could put a premium on first-round draft picks to bolster their ability to secure academy products Jacob Hopper and Matthew Kennedy under the new points-based draft system.
GWS wants to secure both youngsters without going into a points deficit next year, forcing their first pick in next year’s talent pool down the order.

For a moment, think what salary cap room one would have say one was to delist (some of, or all); Newman, foley, Grigg, Chaplin, Hampson, knights, petard (still alive?), Thomas?
Offer danger 10 million

N0rf don't even know who he is. They're only interested because some others are and trying to swoop on a loose chip.
-
Trade grigg now that his at a competitive level and a first rounder. If they don't bite offer Conca instead
-
This guy has been on my radar for a while now. Will be of of the 3-4 we need to go to the next level. Must get him to punt road. Surely we are more enticing than the Roos. Give up our first round pick.
-
Don't think a first rounder (probably in the 11-13) range and Conca would get it done. Don't see GWS having any interest in Reece he wouldn't be best 22 with the midfield they have.
Treloar is a dead set gun. Still don't see him leaving GWS. Reckon we'd be more of a chance to get a Dixon/ Bennell type. GC might well take unders for these blokes in an effort to change the culture up there.
-
Problem for GWS moving forward is unless these players are willing to sign for loyalty reasons alone and in doing so accept much less $$ than whats on offer from other clubs then they simply cant expect to retain the war chest of talent that the AFL has gifted them since their inception. It only takes a few years of receiving top 5 picks in the draft to simply become a carcass that all other clubs will continually feed from, the AFL would have to be naive to think otherwise.
-
So for starters, does collingwood actually want this guy?
Or do they want Dangerfield? Or is either one a smokescreen for what they really want to do?
Are they linked to them to drive the price up for the winning bidder? They are filth after all
secondly, a few people keep mentioning that we may offer our first pick and player ala Conca or Lennon.
If I'm going to be blunt why do people think they will want another mid or HFF they have more than they will ever need and more quality then we can offer to trade.
It seems more likely to me if we make an offer of our first rounder and player/players we would have to get a third party interested for their first rounder as well and on trade both to gws after sending said player/players to third party.
So the question in my view is now, which clubs and what players do we use.
And do people actually think 750 per season on a mid is OK, considering we have other areas to address as importantly?
-
Given how much sheer talent they'll still have on the list, maybe they won't mind taking a player not as good as Treloar as they figure they wouldn't have to pay him as much? Stuffed if I know....
-
We should be throwing money at both Treloar and Danger.
We have a few tradeable players. Grigg, Lennon, Conca, maybe one of either Vickery/Griffiths.
Hell I'd get rid of all four of them and every pick we have this year if it meant pocketing Dangerfield and Treloar...
-
If you were in charge of gws
Would u want Grigg....

Its about time we landed a genuine big fish, and I feel we're primed for a guy like Treloar.
Yes most of the pick-up's we've made over the last 4-5 years have been solid, indeed they have been fine, but now we need to prove to the AFL community that the tigers truly are back and land this guy.
If we want to mix it with the big boys, stamp ourselves as a "big 4" then we need exactly this type of high-profile signing - using the lure of the brand and stage that is Richmond. I know we all think of ourselves as a sleeping giant, a powerclub of yesteryear with potential always a-brimming - so lets prove it and sign this guy.
Look at the way players stuff to the Hawthorns and Collingwoods, the Man U's and the Lakers; for moreorless the same amount of money. Its just as much the prestige of the high-profile club as it is the alure of a potential premiership.
Get it done tigers, he's a jet and we'd have one more box to tick for the resurgence!
-
He is not a big fish yet but by God he will be and a 200 game plus player.
Is a must for our club and we need to throw the lot at him.
-
Averages 28 possessions at 75% with 5 tackles, 4 clearances and 3 inside 50s.
I'd say they are elite numbers.
Kid can play :thumbsup

True, but would u give up a gun 21 year old to hold said cupboard open if u are gws list manager?

If he wants to go then GWS have to see what they can get in return. Pick 13 and Conca/Lennon would be my offer.
-
Pick 13 and Conca, leave it at that. Lennon has not been given a chance.
-
Pick 13 and Conca, leave it at that. Lennon has not been given a chance.
If you really want Treloar, that's not even close to his value.
-
It would be if Treloar threatened to walk and demanded Richmond.
-
If we don't land a "big fish" I'd like us to do what we should've done last year and at least trade for a few more high picks. Especially in a supposedly shallow draft. Would be happy adding Balic, Dunkley & Crocker to our list. Collingwood, Footscray & St.Kilda have all improved markedly with this strategy. Mind you, they all had more aging quality players they could offer than we have. Also helps when you still have a relatively recent good finals record, as it can inflate the perceived value of your players.
-
Should you trade for picks in a dud draft though? Seems like you'll just be trading duds for duds and better off waiting for a better draft? Then again at least they are untried duds
-
Yes but the quality should be more condensed at the high end of a shallow draft (if that's what it actually is - the "experts" regularly say drafts are either shallow or "superdrafts" this far out and they usually don't turn out to be either) so it's perhaps just as important to get more high picks in a shallow draft. Kevin Sheehan reckons there'll be good quality to at least around pick 35-40, which really wouldn't be that much worse than last year's.
-
I'd be putting my energy in trying to land a top shelf KP like Carlisle(trade) and Lachie henderson for free

I tend to agree on Carisile.
I like Treloar but I don't love him. Would prefer DANGER!

It we could just about keep the spuds and still be successful

From Robbo's column ...
"Wrote a month ago they [GWS] were also confident on Adam Treloar. Seeing as Treloar will get offers in the range of $700,000 a season and the Giants will offer about $500,000, that makes it $1 million difference across five years. What price loyalty?"

Mate at work has been harping on about the same story for 6 months - something about his old man being desperate for him to go to the pies. Seriously, how could we not offer a larger sum. How could the pies possibly get this bloke?
-
If he inherited his support of Carlton from his old man then I doubt his old man would be that desperate for him to play for Collingwood.

Treloar is arguably GWS' best mid and will be a superstar.

I read gws fans say he is the best with shield
If u are the best from a list of top five draft picks you'd have to go alright
We are due for some good fortune :pray

Treloar is arguably GWS' best mid and will be a superstar.
Shiel probably gone past him this year. Could be because his heart isn't in it. Who knows. Still a gun.

Shield looks pretty amazing - bit Judd like the grabbing ball and dashing away at pace
Reminds me of a little rance

Ok.
Shiel has probably had a better year for mine. And he's ahead of Treloar although not by a massive amount.
Toby Greene is probably just behind Treloar.
Whitfield has had a really good year and has come on well.
So at the moment I'd rate home 2nd out of those 4.
Potentially, Jack Steele and Coniglio could go past them all.
-
:thumbsup Fair enough. I think I agree with Shiel, both are outstanding young players.
-
to clarify my comment about Treloar being thier best Drafted mid, i think over time he has been even tho Shiel is #1 this year

Agree with this. Treloar was number 1 previously of the young ones. Shiel been better this year.

Shiel looks too have. Man body
In a few years I wouldn't be surprise if other go past him, possibly

Dimmer wants him for the half back stuff
1.Grimes
2. Rance

Shiel's dosposal can iffy at time....a bit like Clangerfield...

Apparently Cotch, Rancey etc. are starting to follow Treloar on Twitter & Instagram and selecting him in mid-year fantasy AFL sides. :clapping

trades cant be officially announced until trade period

PLAYER BIO
Victorian Adam Treloar is a silky skilled right-footer who has played predominately through the GIANTS midfield as a creative and running player. Treloar arrived at the GIANTS in 2011 as a 17-year-old underage recruit from the Dandenong Stingrays. After making his debut and earning a NAB AFL Rising Star nomination in 2012, Treloar finished fifth in the Kevin Sheedy Medal in 2013. Treloar was named in the GIANTS’ emerging leaders group before the 2014 season.
SEASON PREVIEW
2015
Starting the year playing a key role in the round one victory over the Swans, he maintained that level for virtually the entire year. Blessed with a combination of pace and strength, he averaged almost 28 touches and six marks a game, finishing fourth in the best and fairest. Driven to succeed, he played in all six wins last season and is a key to more triumphs in the y

First round draft pick, pick for Lennon and Elton?

Unless we give up one of Cotchin, Martin, Deledo, Rance or Riewoldt, we'll be getting a considerably better player in return.

would have to be 1st round pick and a player, probably an experienced player.

There's no reason they couldn't pay closer to a mill a season with a 6-7 year contract. Use up all the space in the cap for next season, drop it down to maybe 650 for seasons 2-4 and then go up high for the last few seasons, when the cap will have grown due to CPI etc.

GWS' Adam Treloar likely to leave for Victorian club
Jake Niall, Michael Gleeson
The Age
July 24, 2015
In-demand midfielder Adam Treloar looks increasingly likely to depart Greater Western Sydney and join a Melbourne club.
Sources have confirmed Treloar, 22, has received an offer from GWS that is significantly below that of Collingwood, Richmond and North Melbourne – each of which has made a pitch for the midfielder – and he is now more likely to leave than stick with the Giants.
The Magpies, Tigers and Roos are viewed as the primary bidders, and one of those clubs is understood to have offered at least a six-year deal. The multimillion-dollar Victorian club offers amount to far more than the Giants' offer, which would see Treloar sacrifice hundreds of thousands of dollars, if not millions, over the contract term.
In club and industry circles, Collingwood have been viewed as the front-runner for Treloar for some time, but Richmond and North have made strong bids for the midfielder, who had indicated a preference to stay with GWS but is being squeezed by the club's tight salary cap and this year's signing of other young and sought-after stars such as Jeremy Cameron, Dylan Shiel, Devon Smith and Will Hoskin-Elliott.
The offers to Treloar from the Victorian clubs are all understood to be longer-term deals, and while Fairfax Media cannot confirm precise figures, industry sources suggest he would comfortably exceed $600,000 per year over a minimum term of five years, and there has been speculation he could earn $700,000-$800,000 a season.
While Treloar's position as the last (uncontracted) man standing means there is less money available to him at GWS, the Giants also need to shed a player – or players – to gain the early draft picks that will enable them to secure highly regarded academy players Jacob Hopper and Matthew Kennedy without going into draft "deficit" under the new points system for academy players and father-sons.
Hopper and Kennedy are both expected to receive bids from rival clubs inside the first round, which GWS will have to find the points to match. The trading of Treloar, who would fetch a minimum of one early draft pick and potentially more, would ease the passage of those NSW players to GWS.
Treloar is the only "name" GWS player who remains unsigned, the Giants having succeeded in persuading their talented young players to stick, despite predictions of an exodus.
The club would have the option, though, of trading others – including contracted players – to improve its draft position, given the number of first-round picks who are playing in the reserves.
Treloar, who is from Dandenong Stingrays, has averaged 27 disposals and five tackles this year, when he has not missed a game. He has been with the Giants since 2011.

And can ask are you saying that we should pay Treloar or at least offer Treloar more that we offered Dusty 2 years ago? If you are then I am definitely don't think the kids worth sort of coin
But if the club deems he is and they go after and get him - great
If it doens't then so be it
Like said whatever ;D
-
The nature of the market is that you pay overs though isn't it? If your paying 750 - 800 to get someone across I would think normally your paying 200k a year more than their genuine value. 550 - 600 feels like the right price for Treloar, when factoring in age and potential.
Would that offend our top tier talent who ultimately would want success and have taken paycuts to make room for a 'big fish'?
-
Not quite convinced he is worth $700-$800k a season
But whatever
Like Martin wasn't??

Times have changed and so have the players wages. Every club will pay this sort of money to get these sorts of players. The clubs that don't will fall behind. We have fallen behind enough. Pay him top dollar.

serious question.
how many big name players have changed clubs in the last 10 years and how many have actually made a big improvement to their new club?

Big question al.
I think Browny did with us, Ottens, Abblet, Franklin, Judd, the list does go on....
Point?
-
of those you listed only one played in a premiership at his new club, and he wasnt really the difference between winning it or not.
-

No Buddy did too, they just didn't win, I get your point, would be interesting to research though.
When do you think you can let us know.. ;D
-
The counter argument is there have been a number of players who look great in decent side but when they go to a poor side they get showed up for not being as good as what most thought
Example 1 = nick Malcheski - Sawns to GC
Example 2 - Christiansen - Cats to Lions

serious question.
how many big name players have changed clubs in the last 10 years and how many have actually made a big improvement to their new club?
To name a few - Lake, Frawley, Burgoine, Gunston & Hale - were all named in the AA side before leaving their original clubs to win a flag at Whorethorn! :shh (Frawley is next in line)
-
geez, think we will ignore hale and lake out of that list. hardly big name recruits on big money.
burgoine is class, but from memory hawthorne got him relatvely cheap, but he has been an important cog in their machine.
gunston was a good pick up, and not overly cheap, but was it on the sort of coin they are talking about for treloar?
frawley was basically a swap for franklin, in terms of coin spent. nor will he be that important to their premiership hopes.
so well say 2, out of how many?
-
of those you listed only one played in a premiership at his new club, and he wasnt really the difference between winning it or not.
You're initial question wasn't whether they helped win premierships or not it was whether they greatly improved their sides. Ottens absolutely improved Geelong. There wasn't actually an AFL side before he arrived, unless you want to count the side that played in the VFL for a year, but GC are a total poo truck without Ablett and were storming to a finals berth last year before he did his shoulder. Carlton would love Kennedy now but Masten's only just coming good now and they wouldn't have even played in a final, let alone win a couple and come within a kick of a prelim had Judd not been there.
I would've thought the difference Brown made to us before his stuff injury, which nobody could've forseen, was pretty bloody obvious, particularly if you followed the trajectory of the 2005 season.
-
Ok then, ignore Hale & Lake even though they both made the AA team (best 22 in the game) & Lake's deal at Whorethorn was over 600k, but ignore that too.
Here's one you cant ignore - Buddy for a million bucks a season!
Do I dare to mention Tippett too ... another million bucks ...
Boyd leaving GWS & going to the Doggies for a million bucks without even playing a game! ::)
Frawley didn't leave Melb to play for orange peels at Whorethorn ... around 600k too.
Sam Gibson too ...
Whats the score now Al?
I take your point though, there are relatively few trades involving A grade players as a percentage of all trades. Expansion sides have grabbed everything & stockpiled it, reducing the numbers of big trades of young guns. It would be interesting to do this again in 2 years time when a few contracts have expired ...
-
Lake won the norm smith didn't he? Big contributor
Burgoyne wasn't cheap Al. 2 first round picks if I recall and big money at the time.
There have been a few who have excelled at their new club as others have said. Add b Vince to that list as well.
My theory is you shouldn't be affraid to pay for quality players just like Burgoyne and Gunston, especially when you have a plethora of hacks still on descent money. Get rid of those and spend it on a quality player. It's not that hard
FJ hasn't got the greatest record either so can't really rely on him to find us a graders with post first round picks
-
Burgoyne has made a significant difference to Hawthorn, after the 2009 hangover they were looking like one hit wonder fluke artists - he was a crucial component in getting them back on track and eventually becoming a powerhouse IMO.

Gunstan had played 14 games when he left Adelaide, hardly a big name...
Both he and Hale were not in an AA side.

ottens had back surgery and took two to three years to get back to playing top class footy, by then geelong were well on the way to becoming a dominant side.
Yeah Brown would arguably be number three. his impact was great, albeit for a short period, which is why i discounted him.

Honestly there really hasn't been many players at all to leave for big money and take the new team to a premiership instantly.
Does anyone really think that by paying overs for this bloke he will instantly turn us into a premiership threat? I don't think so.
What about our small fwd/s need, another quality ruck, running defender, tall defender.
There are a few needs he is but one.
I am not against taking him at all, I was really strong on taking Shiel and this kid would definitely Improve our midfield but if taking him means we miss out on two other players coming in is it worth it?
-

Yes, I think that would instantly make us a lot closer to threatening for a flag

What about Griff to Collingwood for their 1st Rounder. Then we have two 1st rounders for Treloar.....

i've counted burgoine as succesfull big name trade.
now as for getting rid of hacks and using that money on big name players, what do you replace them with? you have less money to spend, so its harder to replace with quality.
even if you replace with kids, if they come good you then need to find more money to retain them.
In its simplest form, you either spend up on stars and have your bottom tier total garbage, (see sydney with flankiln, tippet then down to derrickx) or try to spread your spending across average type players.
In reality it's not quite that simple. List management is a dynamic thing and you need take into account future payments as players improve and retire etc.
Sydney are actually a good case to follow, as they seem to have changed tack once roos left spent money on stars. This lead to them losing players like mumford and white, while retaining derrickx.
The big spanner that can get into the works is injuries and in theory loading up on top line players should be the better option if you have a good run with injuries, but will hurt more if you cop injuries, particularily if they include a top liner or two.
-
al, if you get rid of two or three hacks
That's equals one good player
Especially overpaid rfc hacks
-
Penelope, if you get rid of two or three hacks

But you then need to replace the other 1-2 list spots that you just got rid of, and with what money? You're taking 3 average players on ~300k each and replacing them with one on ~600k and the other two are left with ~150k each and chances are you aren't going to get anything good for 150k

What do you think we have to give to get Treloar? We aren't going to have many good picks in the draft unless we trade away high talent which basically makes grabbing Treloar redundant.

Yeah I get that part, and I'm more than enthusiastic about the club picking up a gun. But that doesn't fix our ruck issues or sml fwd problems. We still need salary cap space and draft/player currency for trades etc
Swapping Newman or grigg, for a kid talked about as the best young talent going around?
Yes, I think that would instantly make us a lot closer to threatening for a flag

reread and comprehend and it may become a bit clearer, but i doubt it.
there are many factors to consider though and it all depends on where your list is at, at the time.
-
I'd you get tremor,
You still have some draft picks left. Or you can trade for more.
If you get rid of a few spuds, you don't have yo give every cent to the new player
-
And then you end up with a list like Al said before. Good top end talent, not depth and you end up like Sydney who have to play someone like Derickx if someone goes down

Ideally, I'd keep Tyrone and get trelor.
I'm glad chuckles above is entertained
Its somewhat funny seeing derickx cited as an example as weak depth when our current options are a winding down maric and hampspud.
You can't get a gun without giving something be it picks or money.

No point having depth when the starting 18 is questionable :whistle

Adam Treloar rebuffed Richmond for Collingwood, but has he picked the right club?
JAY CLARK
Herald Sun
March 29, 2016 9:00am
WHEN Adam Treloar rebuffed Richmond, saying he preferred Collingwood’s list, the Tiger faithful went into meltdown.
Richmond had figured in three straight finals appearances, toppled the Hawthorn juggernaut three out of their past four meetings and has elite bookends in Alex Rance and Jack Riewoldt.
When the Tigers played the Magpies in Round 21 last year, Richmond thumped them by 91 points. Ty Vickery booted six.
Yet, as Treloar weighed up his three trade options including North Melbourne, he believed that Collingwood was closest to a flag.
“A lot of people might think I’m silly because Richmond have a lot of good players,” Treloar said.
“But I think Collingwood have a better list, and a younger list, who in a couple of years’ time can hopefully win a premiership,” Treloar said.
Richmond legend Kevin Bartlett spat chips on radio, saying the line breaker was “delusional” and must have been “brainwashed”.
“Adam, you’ll have to be twice as good as I think you are for the Pies to win a flag before Richmond,” Bartlett steamed.
“Your coach made the same big call in choosing Collingwood over Brisbane to win premierships. Check the record books for that one.”
Treloar, 23, was excellent in Collingwood’s abysmal loss to Sydney on Saturday night, breaking lines and adding a much needed layer of midfield polish.
But as the Tigers and Magpies prepare to renew hostilities on Friday night there has been an interesting twist in the list comparison.
The gurus at Champion Data, who have spent almost 10 years refining their player and team assessments, agree with Treloar.
The 2016 Prospectus says Collingwood’s list not only has the edge, it says the black and white “have the potential to be a powerhouse” from 2017-18 onwards.
“Their trading has been exceptional, and will set them up for a few years to come,” it reads.
Champion Data’s list rating, which ranks the squads using in-depth player rankings over the past two years, says Collingwood has the seventh best list in the competition.
Richmond is barley a dog’s whisker behind, in eighth.
The Tigers are, unequivocally, gunning for a premiership, led by superstars Trent Cotchin, Dustin Martin, Riewoldt, Rance and an underrated ball-winner in Shane Edwards, but there are question marks over the club’s depth.
Richmond has the fewest players in the league under the age of 21 but the fifth-most (16) in the 21-24 bracket. Collingwood has the third-most in the 21-24 group, with 20.
Speedster Chris Yarran was recruited to Punt Rd in exchange for pick No. 19 but arrived at the club in unsatisfactory condition and has since injured his calf and undergone surgery on his foot.
The Prospectus asks bluntly about the Tigers: “Their time is now but do they have the quality?”
Shaun Grigg should return from a thumb injury against the Pies, but Brett Deledio (quad) and Ivan Maric (back) are in doubt, and Edwards (wrist) has already been ruled out. That’s a big scoop from the top-layer of cream on the list.
But the Pies have problems, too. Perhaps, even bigger ones, in the short term.
On Saturday night against the Swans, the Magpies were demoralised in the middle, managed only seven goals for the night and spearhead Travis Cloke was statless before half time and was eventually thrown into the ruck in the third term.
Cloke will get possibly the best defender in the AFL on Friday night, Alex Rance, and there is an issue in the back line, too.
In Collingwood’s bid to increase their scoring potential this year, concerns surfaced in defence in the preseason, with Nathan Buckley’s crew conceding the third most points in the NAB Challenge series.
As Sydney piled home 18 goals at the SCG at the weekend, those defensive issues continued.
Luckless big man Ben Reid, who has played nine games in the past two years due to repeated soft-tissue setbacks, is crucial to that whole list rebuild Treloar was talking about.
Reid looks on track to make a timely return against the Tigers.
The pressure, as always, will be on and Buckley, after signing a contract extension before the season launch.
He will not want to start the season 0-2. Much-improved St Kilda and Melbourne will be waiting in Rounds 3 and 4.
But the game against Richmond on Friday night will be equally big on a personal note, if not maybe slightly uncomfortable, for its new star midfielder, Treloar.
While only early in his Collingwood journey, expect Bartlett to remind Treloar about his big decision, should the result go Richmond’s way.

Tigers must take Treloar snub personally
Herald-Sun
March 31, 2016
RICHMOND players must use Adam Treloar’s snub of their club as motivation when they take on Collingwood on Friday night, says commentator David King.
The Tigers will confront Treloar for the first time after the former Giant revealed last year he preferred Collingwood’s list when choosing which club to join.
And King is expecting a fierce response from the Tigers when the two sides clash.
“It would have been as simple as this, he would have looked at the two magnet boards and would have said ‘I’m choosing Pendlebury over Cotchin, I’m choosing Cloke over Riewoldt, I’m choosing Sidebottom over Martin’,” King said on Fox Footy’s AFL 360.
“And he decided that they (Magpies) were a long way more advanced to winning a premiership than what Richmond were.
“If Richmond are worth anything as a playing group, they take that personally.
“I think they’ve got to take this personally. It’s a big name that had the opportunity to choose them and he decided not to.
“And we’ll see on Friday night whether that means anything to them.”
King said the Tigers were unconvincing in their win over the Blues last week but was keen to focus on the positives.
“They should have lost last week,” he said.
“Do we give them credit because that was a game they probably would have lost two to three years ago.
“But some youngsters bobbed up: Menadue, Lloyd, Lambert and got them over the line.
“Now you can mount that argument two ways — where were the leaders, did they do their bit, or isn’t it great to see these youngsters take control?
“I prefer to go with the youngsters and say ‘fantastic, well done’.”

What did Treloar say to Cotchin?
Herald-Sun
4 April 2016
VIDEO link: http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/teams/collingwood/video-adam-treloar-gets-the-last-laugh-over-richmond-trent-cotchin/news-story/2f57258ebea548a15eec3f356f756c8e
FROM the moment Adam Treloar chose Collingwood over Richmond, tension has been simmering.
It started with the former GWS midfielder’s comments in November that the Pies have a better list than the Tigers and it seems no one has forgotten.
The tension reached boiling point on Friday night at the MCG and even impacted Tigers captain Trent Cotchin, who usually displays a cool head rarely seen partaking in the antics of sledging.
That changed in the thriller on Friday night.
Essendon champion and media special comments man Matthew Lloyd said he spotted Cotchin make a point to Treloar after the Tigers led by 17 points late in the final term.
You can bet your house that the Richmond skipper was reminding Treloar of his comments as his Tigers headed for victory.
But Treloar had the last laugh.
In just his second game in black and white, Treloar was booed by Richmond supporters for every one of his 32 disposals, but he played a key role in Collingwood’s comeback and eventual victory in dramatic circumstances.
And he returned fire to Cotchin after the siren.
As Collingwood players celebrated, Treloar found his way to Cotchin. We’re not lip readers but we’re pretty sure he said something along the lines of: “You went a bit early.”
And he proceeded to pat the Tigers No. 9 on the head.
We look forward to the rematch in Round 20.

According to Matthew Lloyd, when we were 17 pts up Cotch said to Treloar that he must be regretting his 'best list' comments and then after the siren Treloar went up to Cotch and said "you spoke too soon" and patted him on the head.

Martin had 14 contested possessions.
Cotchins 13 were mostly little dinky 20 metre specials that lack penetration & guts that normally accompany a leader of a footy club.
We should expect more from him he's not a kid anymore and he's going backwards. If he doesn't pull his finger out his 9 possession EF will be his legacy.
He needs to do more!

Might have been #1 clearances
#2 contested , then

I rate cotchin as a player, but not as a leader. It doesn't seem to come naturally to him, it's manufactured. He may have had many touches but he misses vital goals and no tackles is not good leadership.

Just talking facts
Leadership is overrated IMO

Cotchin exchanges were 'just banter', says Treloar
AFL.com.au
7 April 2016
ADAM Treloar says his exchanges with Richmond captain Trent Cotchin in the final quarter of Collingwood's thrilling one-point win last Friday night were all in good fun.
Treloar carried some baggage into the round two clash against the Tigers following comments he made after joining Collingwood in last year's trade period.
The former Greater Western Sydney midfielder, who was also heavily courted by Richmond and North Melbourne, later explained his decision to choose the Magpies over the Tigers by saying: "I think Collingwood have a better list".
Richmond looked set for victory on Friday night when Jack Riewoldt goaled to put it 17 points up at the 21-minute mark of the final quarter.
Around this time, Cotchin had words with Treloar.
Asked by SEN radio what Cotchin had said, Treloar downplayed the exchange.
"It was just a little bit of banter, just basically something along the lines of 'I'd spoken too soon'," Treloar said on Thursday morning.
"It was all good fun when he said it and then obviously we won."
Asked whether Cotchin had a crack at him about not going to Richmond, Treloar said "pretty much everyone" on the Tigers team had done so at some point during the game.
"But it wasn't anything serious, it was just all fun and everything just gets kept out on the football field," Treloar said.
About 10 minutes later Brodie Grundy goaled with four seconds remaining on the clock to secure an unlikely comeback win for Collingwood.
After the final siren sounded, Treloar was captured on camera speaking to Cotchin and playfully rubbing his head.
"I said, 'You spoke too soon, mate,' and I gave him a wink," Treloar said.
"He'll be coming out firing next game. I know he'd love to play us next game, so I look forward to that as well."
Treloar conceded the Pies had been fortunate to get away with the four points against Richmond.
"Luck fell our way," he said.

Intrigue surrounds Collingwood’s recruiting of Greater Western Sydney battler Tim Golds a month after the contentious Adam Treloar trade was sealed.
The Herald Sun can reveal an arrangement was struck between the Pies and Giants’ football boss Graeme “Gubby”Allan to send Golds to Collingwood during last year’s trade period.
Richmond and North Melbourne were also chasing Treloar’s signature but were beaten by the Magpies.
Collingwood announced on Tuesday night that Allan, 61, had also defected from the Giants and taken up a new job at Collingwood overseeing the club’s academies and women’s football and netball programs.
