Richmond up for big pay out if it was to sack coach Damien Hardwick

RICHMOND has no get-out clause for Damien Hardwick’s contract that doesn’t see them handing the veteran coach a significant payout.
The Tigers conducted a series of reviews into Hardwick’s future over the off-season then endorsed a two-year extension through to 2018.
Recent reports suggested the club could easily extricate itself from Hardwick’s contract without real heartburn or financial cost.
But it is understood Hardwick has a base contract then a series of incentives that would reward finals appearances and victories.
If the Tigers did decide to cut ties with Hardwick they would have to pay most or all of the deal, which has nearly three seasons to run.
Failure to make finals in 2016 would not represent a deal-breaker that would allow them to cut ties with Hardwick.
Richmond chief executive Brendon Gale continues to throw his weight behind Hardwick as the club tries to extricate itself from its current predicament.
The Tigers would now look totally reactive if they moved on Hardwick at year’s end after such a comprehensive review.
Richmond president Peggy O’Neal said earlier this year the club was adamant Hardwick was the man.
“We asked whether we were at the point where this is as far as he’s going to take us. Is it time for someone else to come in and take over? In the end the answer was no,” she said.
The Tigers have denied they are conducting a review of recruiting but have big decisions to make on their next list management move.
For all the criticism of the club’s recruiting many of the successes were garnered by sacrificing very little.
Troy Chaplin was a free agency acquisition, Bachar Houli was a pre-season pick, Ivan Maric was secured for pick 37, Anthony Miles was a rookie and Shaun Grigg was taken for the loss of Andrew Collins.
What is of more concern is the lack of development of the juniors, with Richmond’s VFL side battling at 1-3 with few real winners this year.
Much-spruiked tall Liam McBean had four possessions in last weekend’s loss, the no. 33 pick in the 2012 draft still not yet ready to play AFL.
Ben Griffiths looks ready for an AFL recall after battling injury after taking five contested marks and kicking two goals.
Jayden Short, who kicked three goals in his AFL debut, had 26 possessions off half back.
But the club’s midfield recruits in the off-season — Jacob Townsend and Andrew Moore — are battling away in VFL with Chris Yarran still 4-6 weeks away.

So Patrick Smith says they do
Jonny Ralph says they don't
Think that means no one has a clue :snidegrin
-
And Chucky says his contract has a clause about a rebuild.
-
If this is true the RFC board needs a massive cleanout starting with Peggy and Brendon who have tied an albatross around the clubs neck.
-
Stuffen bunch of amateurs. Worst outcome for this club ever was when Malcolm Speed didn't replace March.
-
Ooh but Peggy is great for the club didn't you all know that
:thumbsup

Some of us have known for several years that this day would come. I began withholding my membership money in 2013. Anyone who stumps up with their cash after witnessing the ineptitude of this club and having suffered the blaming from it's staff (who you pay)..... is an idiot.

I've been a member for 30 years and God willing will be for the next 30.

Me also.
Disappointing it has got to this point, however, Hardwick's 2 year extension was the final straw for me

That's right. People don't go around showing the media their contracts. Unless they are real stupid ;D
They are speculators :lol

O'Neal and now Gale are 2 people on the board. The enitre board voted in favour of the contract extension.
They are all to blame.
Benny cops the biggest whack from me though, as it was his recommnedation to extend the contract

Once again you show your ignorance WP.
Peggy is not just one vote out of a an entire board.
She is an American woman.
Therefore, how the board votes is all down to her.

And how is that working for you?.....or the club for that matter. In business there would be severe and justified ramifications for this scenario. But hey, it's your money.

Soon it will be time to drink the cool aid and reunite w the mothership

Or is Richmond 'too big to fail'
It might be a capitalism/democracy (WPs legal eagle will confirm) but the taxpayers can still go all commie and ball out the big dogs :shh

pretty sure the mothership was a victim of collateral damage in the Alien V Predator battle

This fundamentalists sound a lot like like Jonestown cult / essendon fans
It's good to support the club but the nutters are running the madhouse

On such matters I bow to your wealth of experience

Well WP, you tried to tell me the club wouldnt be stupid enough to not have a get our clause a couple of months ago and would 'back it in'. Called me naive too IIRC.
I told you the club would be stupid enough. This was met with much disdain, and further, would appear to have formed part of your basis to criticise my disproportionate amount of negative posts.
Perhaps a lesson in keeping ones mind open.
Lol the right track.
Surely they are smart enough to put a clause in to a proven finals failure coach about performance.
Details for the members please.
Seriously, Dooks are you that naive to think they haven't?
I get that it doesn't suit a purpose to assume they haven't but it is more likely than unlikely that they have got performance clauses. Actually I'd back it in
And do you really think a board is going to tell us the full details of an employment contract? No board is going to do that and nor should they
You don't know any of that. Are you that naive to think they have?
You'd back it in others wouldn't. The club has a history (recent) of stunning decisions, you can give them the benefit of the doubt. Not me.

I don't think anyone here knows what Hardwick's contract states so I can't see how anyone can claim they are right or wrong.
-
In the old days, they would have just cut his dog's head off and had the resignation in the morning.
-
I don't think anyone here knows what Hardwick's contract states so I can't see how anyone can claim they are right or wrong.
But if you think they dont have a get out clause you are naive.
Lmao

Well, I think WP is coming from a position of logic.
All contracts stipulate what is expected from the individual that signs it. An AFL coach would certainly have more than "you will coach the team" written in his contract. He would have minimum KPIs stipulated. I think this is the "get out clause". If he doesn't meet his KPI's then that would allow the employer to trigger a dismissal. Now the contract would also state a minimum payout for such a dismissal too.
So, in reality, he probably has a get out clause but it would still cost the club in a payment. The payment would not be his full wage for the rest of his contract.
This is would be the most logical way of looking at the situation we have.

Logic isn't synonomous with Tigerland Y&BB :-[

So just i am clear you are saying that Jon Raplh is correct without question and Patrick Smith is categorically wrong?
Really?
I dont think either joirno has a clue TBBH.
Just like we dont.
All employement contracts have some sort of out clause, it's general business practice. What the clause is and what it entails I have no idea, just like Ralph, Smith and you Dooks dont
So pehaps we all should keep an open mind on it

I know :snidegrin

I thought the problem is the payout goes into our football department expenditure which the AFL want to cap. That means we may be disadvantaged in the future by having to pay less than other clubs on their footy departments.

All im saying is the club is so incompetant its definately a strong possibility. Even a likelihood. Look at the poo decisions they have made. More of the same. The article supports this.
Yes we should keep an open mind. No more "naive" comments.

They cant retrospectively punish RFC. Ask WPs legal eagle

Don't we just have to pay a "luxury tax" that's then redistributed to minnow clubs like North & Footscray?

I know :snidegrin
Rebuild clause :clapping

Gary March I give him credit had bals to make hard decsions ala Miller and Wallace our board if this is true has sold the club out and it'smembers.
