Bump.
4 of our VFL leadership group are missing. Tom Couch over at Wimbledon as a strength & conditioning coach for one of the tennis players apparently.
Just started. A point to the Pies.
-
What a joke of a surface at Vic Park. Might as well be playing at a local park.
Goal to the Pies.
Rich 0
Coll 7
-
Chol in defence (had two goals kicked on him already).
McBean in the ruck.
:huh3
Bathie is the other ruckman. No Ivan.
We can't get any clean ball. Just one mark for the whole team so far. 9 Tigers haven't touched the ball.
And that sums it up. 3 Tiger defenders fly for the same ball and still give away a free kick :facepalm.
0 - 19
-
Marcon gets a free 80m out but kicks it into the man on the mark and the Pies run it down for another goal.
This will be a 100 point flogging. We don't look like scoring.

A scrum at our F50 and we get the free. Ballard takes the advantage but sprays it badly. At least we actually scored :-\.
1 - 26
18 mins Q1
ps. We've been caught 4 times being run down from behind and caught holding the ball.
-
Dimma may as well go home as there is no-one in this group worth selecting ;D
-
Getting smashed in uncontested marks as we can't get and maintain clean possession and control the ball.
Tackles 17 - 24 (the Pies have had all the ball yet still lead the tackle count).
-
Two shocking kicks forward but they luckily fall into Tiger laps. Hits the post from 15m out. All VFL-listed players.
Pies kick-in is a shocker and they gift Marcon our first goal.

If some of you are wondering about the condition of the ground.
It's because the Collingwood supporters steal the grass blades & smoke it :snidegrin
-
We just gifted the goal back :banghead
-
Oh look, Blair 'god's gift to list management' Hartley is watching with Dimma.
-
Great minds.
-
Quarter time
Richmond 1.3-9
Collingwood 5.3-33
Goal: Marcon
Marcon would also be our leading possession getter.
-
Looking at Goldsack, McCaffer, as replacements for Astbury ;D
-
Does our forward line even have an AFL listed player in it? (Not including rookies)
Chol isn't a backman.
Rotate him and McBean in the ruck and forward.
-
Do we even have a genuine AFL list mid in our reserves? Wowee we are poo
-
Chol in defence (had two goals kicked on him already).
In his defence, even Rance would be having a tough time with the lack of up field defence

Showing more effort this qtr and a bit of system at least.
Ballard good contested mark 25m out against two Pies and kicks our third.

Starting to win the clearances in tight.
Free to McBean on the boundary. Misses.

Playing better this quarter.
Like the way McRae spoke at quarter time.

Surely Ballard replaces Moore on the AFL list next year....

Ivan ?

Rested in case your favourite dud Hamspud doesn't come up next week...

A goal against the run of play to the Pies and then another (should have been holding the ball free to us) has blown out the scoreboard again.

If that was not holding the ball then Chaplin in the 1st dumbfounds me. Collingwdod player had so much time holding that after the tackle

Playing better this quarter.
Like the way McRae spoke at quarter time.
Yeah Pity they didn't take what he said on board ;D
-
Ivan ?
Not playing.
With a 5 day break (from today) to the Port game, Ivan has obviously been pulled out just in case Hampson doesn't come up.
4 of our VFL listed players were called in late to play today from the Ammos.
-
Playing better this quarter.
Like the way McRae spoke at quarter time.
Yeah Pity they didn't take what he said on board ;D
Yep. McRae told them to kick the ball and gain territory yet the players are still overpossessing the ball by hand and stuffing up. Dumb, dumb, dumb footballers.
Another goal to the Pies. The momentum switched as soon as they got that goal against the run of play.
-
They probably saw Halfstep in the crowd and are trying to impress him by playing "The Richmond Way"...except McBean who saw him and thought "why bother?"

All these players from other clubs give 1 or 2 years max service then push us backwards & destroy the confidence of those around them for the rest of their stay including the fans ;D

Chol has no idea in defence.
Cal Moore's miss sums up what's wrong with our forward play at both levels. He was free inside F50 within the 'vee' and instead of just having a shot at an open goal, he was too busy looking to give it off that took too long and then had to snap around his body under approaching pressure which caused him to hit the post.

McCrae really earning his keep.
Without his astute coaching and the famous RFC development machine
we would have been 15 goals down by now.
These kids are on a steep learning curve and are passing with a minimum of fuss.
Next year we will celebrate our 1997 reserves flag with another reserve flag.
Bookmark it.

l had enough of watching this. Fair dinkum l see local reserves play far better football.
Collingwood VFL are a powerful side with some good senior players but the mistakes we make are child like.

Apparently Hartley is frothing over the talent in our 2's. Just rolled on a magnum and is ready to go

Why would they care when they see Vickery play like he doesn't give a stuff every week and yet not only be a walk up start but also have Halfstep publicly defend him to the hilt at every opportunity?
-
How many times have we kicked it to the top of the goalsquare today and not a single Tiger forward is there to contest.
Pies rebound, make a stack of errors but still have the time and space to get it forward for a set shot (miss). Just shows the lack of pressure and poor efforts from us.

Exactly, been saying it for yonks, our VFL "program" is amateur hour at its best.
Really feel for AFL listed kids out there today. This is more than who the coaches are, you give anyone a sub standard list of top ups then you are stuffed before a ball is bounced

Inspiring last quarter. So why didn't the coach McRae tell them at 1/4 time. Its a boys club at Richmond. They are treated & trained like kittens. They need to tuffen up & grow some balls. That's why we see our senior players shriek a contest. Trained & treated like kittens in a family invoriment. Things need to change. Great effort last quarter. l love biff football ;D

Richmond entered the game at Victoria Park trying to overcome two unfortunate hurdles. The Craig McRae-led Tigers had never beaten Collingwood since becoming a stand-alone VFL team, while they also haven’t managed to record a win in front of the Channel 7 broadcast cameras.
Richmond ruckman Ivan Maric was a late withdrawal, with the Tigers keeping him as a back-up for Friday night's clash against Port Adelaide, in the case Shaun Hampson does not recover from a knee injury sustained in the win over the Brisbane Lions.
The Tigers lacked the intensity, effort and work-rate for much of the match against the Pies, with coach Craig McRae suggesting that it was "probably the most disappointed I've been with the group for a few weeks", after an uncompetitive third term.

I've been supporting him for a while now too. Highly skilled players often will perform better with better players around them and he certainly has some skills. :cheers

We have a lot to use by playing butler. For example grigg might have to be dropped

The idea of Butler is a lot more exciting than the production you'll actually get from him. Pretty ordinary player from what I've seen.

I've watched him play in the twos a few times and he has traits that would translate well in the firsts. He is quick and has skills. That puts him ahead of several players already....

Sounds like a little McBean
-
Has shown bugger all in the VFL.
And where do people get the "skillful" idea from?
Quick yes, but skillful? Setting the bar pretty low for skills if that's the case.

I think we are all entitled to our opinions. I think he has good skills. He certainly hits targets well at training. His problems are consistency and a bit of discipline.

The VFL Report: Round 12
richmondfc.com.au
28 June 2016
Craig McRae's summary of the AFL and VFL-listed players who featured in last Sunday’s match against Collingwood.
AFL-listed players
Adam Marcon
23 disposals, six clearances, four tackles, two goals
He’s been the most consistent AFL player for a number of weeks. He had 23 disposals, 13 contested, four tackles and he kicked two goals as well. If we had more “Adam-type” players it would be good for us.
Andrew Moore
23 disposals, seven clearances, six tackles
Ended up with 23 disposals, but only had six (disposals) up to half-time and eight to three-quarter time, so his finish to the game was exceptional. He had nine contested possessions in the last quarter alone, along with 14 touches. We just need Andrew to believe in himself for four quarters, because he is more than capable of playing above the level when he does.
Jason Castagna
21 disposals, eight clearances, ten tackles, five inside 50s
Played as a midfielder for three quarters, and particularly in the first half, he was probably our best player. Jason had ten tackles and 17 disposals up until half-time. We moved him to half-back in the last quarter where he didn’t have as much influence. He showed he’s more than capable of playing midfield.
Nathan Drummond
20 disposals, nine handball receives, 12 uncontested possessions
He had 20 disposals in a reasonable performance and had moments where he was really clean and moments where he chased and tackled really well, and also patches where he went out of the game. Defensively he has a few little things he needs to work on, but he’s certainly showing some signs he’s improving.
Liam McBean
15 disposals, nine contested possessions, 12 hit-outs, three clearances, one goal
Played through the ruck and I thought he had great intensity around the contest. We didn’t quite dominate the hit-outs, but we won clearances on the day and he was a big reason for that. He didn’t impact the scoreboard as much as he normally does, but he still kicked a goal.
Dan Butler
13 disposals, one goal, four clearances, six tackles
Returned from suspension and played mostly forward, with a couple of stints through the midfield. His long, hard running showed signs in the last quarter of what he’s capable of. Similar to a number of others, we need more of it.
Oleg Markov
13 disposals, five marks, six tackles
Started as a forward and had minimal impact. We’re really looking forward to seeing his athletic traits as a forward and getting more involved in contests. He’s working hard behind the scenes to make a difference in that area. We moved him into the midfield in the last quarter and he had six disposals which shows he’s got something there.
Callum Moore
Two goals, 11 disposals, four marks
Ended the day with two goals and four marks. He dropped a couple of chances he would usually take. He’s showing signs, we just need consistency in his effort and work-rate to be an AFL player.
Troy Chaplin
Nine disposals, four handball receives, five contested possessions
Played full-back for the entirety of the game. He sets us up well and helps us to be organised. Not a dominant display, but played his role and was serviceable.
Mabior Chol
Six disposals, three marks, three tackles
Played down back and I thought he was disappointing with his positioning and had a few goals kicked against him. He needs to manage those tough times when he’s getting beaten and how he can fight back and be resilient in those situations. Unfortunately, he rolled an ankle and time will tell whether he’ll be available this week.
VFL-listed players
Sam Darley
26 disposals, ten handball receives, three tackles
Had 26 disposals off half-back, used the ball reasonably well and set some things up behind the ball. I’m looking for his strong leadership, he’s the captain of the team, so when things go wrong, I want him to stand-up more. I want him to be more vocal and demand more from his players.
Jacob Ballard
25 disposals, 17 contested possessions, seven clearances, eight tackles, two goals
He was the Caydon Player Of The Day and played like a strong “bull”, which is what we recruited him for and it was a great performance.
Nick Mellington
15 disposals, six tackles, three clearances
A little bit in and out, similar to some others. His best is really good, but we just need a more consistent four-quarter performance from him. He played a little bit wing and midfield; he’s a quality player and we need him at his best.
James Fletcher
13 disposals, eight uncontested possessions, four handball receives
Played his first VFL game as the 23rd player. He’s an elite runner, so we played him on a wing, and he looks more than capable of playing at the level. He had 13 disposals and we’re looking forward to seeing what he’s got to offer in the coming weeks.
Tom Langford
13 disposals, three inside 50s, five handball receives
He had 13 disposals off half-back and a little bit of wing. He’s a quality ball-user, but we’re just looking for less “home-run kicks” with five ineffective kicks out of his ten. because he’s probably our best ball-user. Coming off half-back we can’t afford that and we also need stronger leadership from him.
Tom Silvestro
13 disposals, nine uncontested possessions, five handball receives
Consistent with his effort. He’s a “poster boy” for his hardness around the contest and long, hard running. He can inspire others with his effort and we need others to follow from his lead.
Ryan Bathie
12 disposals, ten hit-outs, two clearances
Similar to “Beany”, he competed hard in the ruck. He went forward, kicked 1.2, so he could have had a bigger day if not for missed opportunities in front of goal. He continues to play his role.
Tyson Kruse
Seven disposals, six contested possessions, two tackles
Came in at the last minute. Battles hard, competes hard, played multiple roles, and has been a good role player for us.
Anthony Scott
Seven disposals, four marks, three tackles
Returned from local duties and needs to be consistent with his effort around the contest. Three tackles and seven disposals and didn’t impact the scoreboard and we need him to do that being our second leading goal-kicker for the season so far.
Kelvin Williams
Seven disposals, one tackle, four uncontested possessions
Played his third game and looks like he’s settling in to being able to play at the level. We just need him to bodyline the ball better, come at the ball, and defend when the opposition have it. He only had one tackle as a forward which isn’t enough and he needs to address that.
Daniel Coffield
Six disposals, five uncontested possessions, one tackle
Probably the least impact he has had as a defender for us. He’s been rock solid and really reliable for us and I thought he went away from all the things that made him a good player for us. We’ll address that during the week.
Ash Morris
Six disposals, three handball receives
A small defender, he’s getting caught in between when to attack and when to defend a bit at the moment. He’s learning how to play our system and I think he’s got huge upside and we’re looking forward to getting him back to his strengths.
Jake Aarts
Five disposals, two tackles
Played a really important role for us tagging an opposition player. I thought he did a great job. He battles hard and he’ll be the first picked this week.

Pretty slim picking with our AFL listed players.
Probably only a couple I think will be decent AFL players.
-
Funny that at the start of the year alot of people here were calling Chol our saviour. Might be a decent pick up down the track but has alot of development to happen in the meantime and given our history of player development I dont like his chances.
Just feel generally that other clubs have a bit more immediate impact players in their VFL sides rather than the vanilla players we seem to accumulate who plod along without really screaming out "pick me" with their performances.

Been disappointing this year but started to show what he's capable of in the last quarter - IMO he looked the most promising of our new draftees last year before his injury......should be persisted with...

Has shown bugger all in the VFL.
And where do people get the "skillful" idea from?
Quick yes, but skillful? Setting the bar pretty low for skills if that's the case.
Was super clean and very skilled as a junior. He has plenty of skills but for some reason these kids seem to lose them when in our vfl side.
When you look at how poorly the vast majority of our juniors perform at VFL level how their skills drop away their ability to find the ball etc then something is seriously wrong.
It is a constant theme and if the criteria for our juniors is to consistently play well in the ressies then we will never ever give a game to any of the kids.
I liked the look of Butler when we drafted him. but i agree im not sure what he has done to demand a game.
Imo he does have the right attributes or he did!!! to become a good sml fwd. Pace, Decent skills, Goal sense, and is a good tackler and works hard without the ball in hand.
Personally i think we need to bite the bullet and acknowledge the need to play kids in an attempt to find out who can and can not play at the level.
Playing these kids means we will take the step backwards that they spoke about as far as results go. The only other option is to go into denial and continue to play blokes who clearly cannot take us anywhere but may enable us to win a few more games than we would with such inexperienced kids like Butler.
As acollective we are either prepared to take a step backwards or we are not.

Yes but the fans demanded finals in four years
They wouldn't accept a long drawn out rebuild.

Let's be honest here Claw, Hardwick hasn't changed a thing in all his time at the club. I doubt he will anytime soon. We are stuck with the same poo game plan and shittruck players he continues to play week in week out. He is doing more damage than good at the minute. How can you keep picking guys like Belllis, Batchelor and Vickery after the seasons they have had. Even players like Hunt and Grigg are not taking us from a middling side to a top side so why keep playing them?? What is the bet Houli will come straight back into the side when fit!!
I love watching footy, and not just the Tigers, but unfortunately Dimma has made it really unenjoyable to watch us play these days. I get so envious watching sides pass us but more importantly play a good style of footy to watch.
The club has some real challenges ahead of it but if they play to their true form, nothing much will change.

And we never use the fat side when kicking into the forward line. :banghead

If some of you judge a player from VFL football when a player has been drafted to the RFC list then you better think seriously what you know about football. These lads are not drafted to play 2nd rate football. They are a elite crop of footballers who many have been playing senior football with their own clubs at a young age before even being drafted to play TAC & on-wards to AFL club lists.
Example; What do some of you know about a young footballer Ben Ainsworth. l rate this lad in the next draft top 10 after watching him for 5 years. If you put this lad in the VFL he would look average & lose interest. A very exciting footballer who bust his guts & is highly skilled & very smart, with a huge tank. l reckon his played more senior football than many of you :snidegrin l rate him highly but not to play VFL. Who ever picks this lad up will get a 10+ year player. Now l'm using him as a example so next year we can bring this up again.
Now if some of you reckon Butler is average. l see a different footballer who is playing as best he can around some guys who hold him back. Give him a game at the highest level & we will see a far better player. The problem at RFC is they are not lifting the players to the next level & have players in the top 22 that shouldn't be playing as they are passengers. Bellis is 1 of these players. Vickery is another. Astbury the other. McBean for Vickery, Bultler for Bellis, & The biggest mistake the club made was Astbury should have gone instead of Dea. So take your pick who will replace Astbury cause injury has taken its toll on that lad & he is a mere VFL player at present but has talent. Not quite that smart ;D

Good to see Blair at Vic park not giving up chasing Treloar's signature :snidegrin.

On Astbury he was contracted, Dea wasnt'. They tried to trade Astbury, as contracted player he had to OK any trade, he didn't so we are stuck with him for 2016 at least
On our VFL set-up, have said for yonks, our program is terrible. And the VFL listed blokes we have around our AFL listed players isn't helping in bettering our kids.
But the point you make about Butler is perfectly highlighted by Menadue. At VFL level Mendaue is at times average, play him in the AFL and he plays to very a different standard. VFL game time doesn't help this kid but at the same time he doesn't help himself sometimes when he goes back ... his attitude (read body language) is poor
-
Astbury is a key position player. Dea was not. Dea and Astbury played completely different roles at the club. Having said that whether Astbury is retained by the club is very much undecided.
In relation to Butler although I would like to see him play in the seniors soon I doubt Hardwick is going to take any risks at the moment. I truly hope I am wrong in this regard.

Pretty much agree with all of that.

The scary part is we literally have just 4 KPD's and only one of them is up to AFL standard atm.
Chaplin should be retired, Astbury is not good enough and Elton has managed just two games in 5 years and like most of our juniors and development players has shown little even in the magoos.

I think we are all entitled to our opinions. I think he has good skills. He certainly hits targets well at training. His problems are consistency and a bit of discipline.
So does Hammer :help

Jason Castagna
Played as a midfielder for three quarters, and particularly in the first half, he was probably our best player.
We moved him to half-back in the last quarter where he didn’t have as much influence.
Oh gee I wonder what went wrong? Eff me why do they do these stupid things? Probably was winning the ball before A.Moore and we couldn't allow that to happen to Blair

As Rance is the best KPD in the league he is at the highest level of AFL standard

Clawski was still technically correct best kind of correct

Maybe but from the tone of the email I sensed that he was down playing exactly how good Rance is

Yep Claw will never stop trying to downplay how good Rance is as he is a prime example of how Claw can get it wrong, despite his claims that he is always right
