Well they've won a few lately, so I'd say there is some chance. Certainly playing better than the seniors.
Plus the "seniors are poo so the vfl side must be too" argument doesn't stack.

Was a bit of tongue in cheek just saying our AFL side is poo. Was also meant to generate some thought on why they look better than we do in their respective comp. Are our youngsters actually pretty good compared to others? Is the coaching a lot better? Do the players just apply themselves better than our senior spuds?
-
Being 10th, winning 7 games
Would led one to think no they are kind of average

Fair enough. To answer your questions, probably a mix of all three, although they will still miss finals so they're not exactly killing it.

Whats amazing that he can understand game plans and structure when had little exposure
Maybe that's the thing. Maybe he didn't even try to understand the game plan and just went out and played pure footy with a clear head....
In the end we are making a simple game too complex for the players....

Hopefully Hardwick took note. It does my head in when all our forwards are defending in our defensive half giving the opposition backs 50m of space to organise their assault downfield. It means that we can't score on the rebound very easily. It's just so obvious at the ground, it's not funny.

Wasn't it you that said that you couldn't do that in today's footy when referring about comments on Jack staying at home more?
Agree that we are trying to make this game harder than it is. We need a new game plan for 2017 and I hope Dimma realises it or we will lose another year.

You seemed to agree on it at the time...
When you have someone of Jacks talents you have to use them. And playing him up on the wings doesn't help us. He needs to be play inside 50 at all times including when other side push up on us.
We need to score more and the easiest way to do that is play your best forward close to goal and isolate him as much as possible. Stuff what other sides do!
-
Go blues next week!
Yes let's hope the Northern Blues win by 5-6 goals
-
I had to leave at half time and TBH it was hard to see all of the play from my vantage point, but here is what I noticed in the first half:
Chol still gets pushed off the ball easily in marking contests but he is super agile and has good skills. Definitely an exciting prospect. Just needs some bulk.
Drummond had a good half - quick and clean
Bean worked hard and marked strongly but missed some set shots.
Ty worked pretty hard and nailed his shots.
Lennon looked alright and kicked a classy goal.
C Ellis mixed bad with good. Looks good in traffic but dropped a sitter in the center square that nearly cost a goal. Still looks like a boy.
Castagna was fumbly and so was Broad.
Townsend: didn't really notice but maybe I missed some of his work in close.
Miles ditto.
Conca laid a few good tackles and did some good things in traffic. He did muff one kick inside 50 that probs should have been a goal. I thought he was pretty good in the first half though.
Ivy solid in the ruck.
That young indigenous dude Kirby looked very dangrous and chased hard. Be interesting to see where he goes at year's end. Would love for us to pick him up. All class.

Here's an article and pic of Kirby.
Kirby's coming home
Australian Community Media - Fairfax Media
FORMER Tyntynder footballer Kayle Kirby is positive he can overcome a strained hip and return to his old home ground when the Bendigo Pioneers host a TAC Cup match at Alan Garden Reserve this weekend.
Kirby needs to pass a fitness test tomorrow to make the side to play the Calder Cannons, but he was confident he'd make the cut to play on his former club's stomping ground on Sunday.
"Yeah, I'll be playing," he said.
"It'll be great, I can't wait. It'll be a good pitch and it'll be good to play in front of everyone again."
Kirby strained his hip flexor a fortnight ago during the Pioneers' round 10 clash against the Murray Bushrangers.
The injury caused the ex-Bulldog to be ineligible for Victoria Country in its NAB AFL Under 18 Championships match against South Australia at Etihad Stadium last Friday.
The full forward said he was devastated about the missed opportunity.
"It was a bit unfortunate because I was supposed to play in the Friday game," Kirby said.
"If I played a good game then, I would've been a chance to play the next one, which would've been a really good game at Geelong."
However, Kirby's focus now was to be fit and ready for Sunday.
Pioneers coach Brett Henderson said Kirby was one of four local players in strong contention to play against the Cannons.
"Kayle's just fantastic to watch when he's up and about so hopefully he can get out there on Sunday and really take the game on," Henderson said.

Midfielder Anthony Miles responded in the best way possible after being axed from the Tigers' squad, picking up a team-high 28 touches in the nine-point win.
Richmond VFL operations manager Daniel Hull told AFL.com.au Miles was a solid performer and "won his fair share of contested possessions".
Midfielder Reece Conca (22 touches, two goals) was also a notable standout courtesy of his ability to alternate between midfield and half-back during the match.
Omitted restricted free agent Ty Vickery presented well and booted two goals, while Mabior Chol continued his promising patch of form in the backline.

Kayle Kirby ignites VFL Tigers
richmondfc.com.au
22 August 2016
It isn’t too often that a VFL coach isolates their 23rd player inside 50 with their season hanging in the balance.
However, that’s exactly what Craig McRae did with youngster Kayle Kirby in the tense final term of Richmond’s nine-point win over Sandringham.
Kirby’s game-high, five-goal haul sparked the Tigers and led them to a meritorious win over the formerly fourth-placed Zebras, finishing 14.14 (98) to 12.17 (89).
As the rain set in at Trevor Barker Oval, and with the game slipping from their grasp, the Tigers turned to the Bendigo Pioneers dynamo, who ignited his side with a trio of third-term majors.
It was fitting that the sole goalkicker in the see-sawing final term was Kirby.
As the Zebras peppered the goals in the last quarter, they could only scrounge together seven behinds, as Kirby’s moment arrived.
With the ball dribbling over the line deep in Richmond’s attacking 50, Dan Butler’s quick thinking soccer kept the ball alive and Kirby found himself in the right place at the right time.
Kirby tracked the ball back with the flight, dropped the mark, but gathered the ball at ground level, sprung to his feet, and with a shrug of the hips, saw off a would-be-tackler and snapped truly.
Richmond kept its season alive as it pressured, scrapped, willed and clawed its way back from a 21-point deficit midway through the third quarter.
As the rain moved from a nagging shower to a soaking downpour, the Tigers made their move.
With the Zebras looking dominant, Kirby pounced on a loose ball inside-50 and kicked the first of a three-goal burst in the third term.
Reece Conca slotted his first of the third term moments later, before Kirby crumbed and goaled to tie things up at 70 points apiece.
Kirby’s soccer attempt was barely touched on the goalline and handed Richmond a slender one-point lead — which it wouldn’t relinquish for the remainder of the game.
Next, Conca weaved his way through congestion and snapped his second major for the term, with Liam McBean slotting his sole major moments later.
Kirby completed the final leg of his third quarter trifecta by snapping his fourth of the game — pushing the Tigers lead to 19 points.
The Tigers turned the 21-point deficit into a 19-point lead in the blink of an eye, before Sandringham made a late surge in the shadows of three-quarter time.
The Zebras slotted back-to-back goals and sliced the margin to eight points heading into the critical final term.
The final term was a battle of wills and territory.
Sandy peppered the goals and the Tigers struggled to hit targets going inside 50.
Kirby snatched his moment and found himself kicking the final two goals of the game to keep Richmond’s slim finals hopes alive.
The game started at breakneck speed as the Zebras got off to a flyer with the opening two goals.
Sandy looked sharp and the Tigers needed a kickstart — in stepped Butler.
The zippy and tenacious small forward gobbled up a defensive 50 turnover from the Zebras and coolly opened Richmond’s account.
Richmond slotted the next three majors through Kirby, Ty Vickery and Nathan Drummond before a late spoil by Ryan Gale handed Sandy the easiest of goals.
Sandy went on to kick back-to-back goals and snatched a three-point lead.
Soon after, Vickery cashed in on a 50-metre penalty and helped himself to a pair of opening term majors.
Lennon highlighted his class with a right-foot snap on goal with the quarter-time siren beckoning, which handed the Tigers a seven-point lead at the first change.
The Tigers could only managed a solitary goal in the second term and it came via Ivan Maric as Sandringham upped the pressure with four goals of their own.
The Tigers trailed by 15 points at the main break before Kirby’s second-half heroics netted them a nine-point win, their fifth-win-on-the-trot and eighth for the year.
Tenacious on-baller Anthony Miles put up his hand for reinstatement to AFL duties with a team-high 29 disposals, while Conca racked up 21 disposals and slotted two goals.
Next week the equation is simple - if Richmond beats Coburg and Essendon loses to the Northern Blues then the VFL Tigers will feature in finals action.
They welcome Coburg to Punt Road Oval next Saturday, August 27 at 12pm.

How many halfs have Richmond (afl) struggled to kick any goals - 2/3/4 under hardwick...
Teams press up with everyone in front of half way cause it works. It stops crap sides like Richmond bein able to get the ball out of defence let alone kicking goals.
Good teams are either talented enough to kick thru it, or fast and daring enough to run

Richmond VFL and development coach Craig McRae's summary:
AFL-listed
Anthony Miles
29 disposals, 15 contested possessions, seven clearances, four tackles
‘Milsey’ returned from AFL duties and performed really well. His third and fourth quarter really sparked the team to get it over the line. His contest was really strong — 15 contested possessions and seven clearances, he was one of our best players.
Reece Conca
21 disposals, two goals, four clearances, four tackles
Started the game down back and then went into the midfield. Particularly when he went into the midfield he won a lot of clearances. He ended up kicking two goals in the third quarter to give us a really big spark in that period. A really solid game from him.
Jacob Townsend
19 disposals, 12 contested possessions, four clearances, three tackles
A tough inside performance as you’d expect from him. Had six inside 50s which led the team, had 19 disposals, 12 contested. It wasn’t his best performance, but he played a role.
Jason Castagna
16 disposals, five tackles, three inside 50s
Played at half-back and through the midfield. It was a capable performance and another solid game from him, without having too many highs and lows. His pressure around the contest was his strength with five tackles.
Corey Ellis
14 disposals, two clearances, eight contested possessions
Started the game reasonably slowly in the first half. Had a few fumbles at ground level and dropped marks. As the game wore on he showed his class and was able to influence the game.
Ivan Maric
28 hit-outs, one goal, 14 disposals, four clearances, four inside 50s
Played his best game at VFL-level for the year in my eyes. His intensity was a real standout and he dominated the ruck. It was a really strong performance from him.
Mabior Chol
13 disposals, 10 kicks, four marks
Played down back in one of his more consistent four-quarter performances. He’s had concentration lapses in recent weeks, but didn’t have them in this game and he was strong. When the game had its most pressure he was standing up. I was really proud of his 13 disposals and his effort on the day.
Nathan Broad
12 disposals, two clearances, two tackles
A solid game without many highs and lows. He was a bit fumbly early, but as the game wore on, he won more and more one-on-ones which has been a feature in recent weeks.
Daniel Butler
11 disposals, one goal, six contested possessions
Only one tackle to go with his 11 disposals, but his pressure and intensity around the contest, and his GPS (numbers) were through the roof. He’s certainly running on top of the ground and performing really consistently of late.
Liam McBean
10 disposals, one goal, four marks
A tough day for talls but he stood out in patches. He had three shots on goal, but only kicked 1.2. Probably one of the better “big guys” on the ground in terms of influence, certainly for our team.
Ben Lennon
Eight disposals, one goal, one tackle
Returned from the AFL and struggled to have any influence on the game. Only had eight disposals, and we need him to work harder from contest-to-contest and also have more influence in the defensive part of his game.
Adam Marcon
Eight disposals, three tackles, two clearances
Unfortunately was injured before half time and didn’t play any further part.
Nathan Drummond
Seven disposals, one goal, two marks, one clearance
Unfortunately like Adam (Marcon) was injured before half time and didn’t take any further part in the game.
Ivan Soldo
22 hit-outs, seven disposals, two tackles
He is really improving his ruck-work around the ground. He’s an important ally for Ivan Maric in the ruck, played his role really well.
Ty Vickery
Two goals, six disposals, one mark
Was also injured in the third quarter.
VFL-listed
Nick Mellington
22 disposals, 10 handball receives, three clearances, three tackles
Played his best game in over a month. Another who really got us going in the third quarter. His contest wins and use of the ball going inside 50 were really strong. He had a really good game.
Jacob Ballard
20 disposals, seven clearances, four tackles
Continued his good form with 20 disposals — was a really solid role player for us. Had seven clearances which led the team, also had four inside 50s and four tackles.
Sam Darley
19 disposals, six handball receives, four marks
Played down back and had 19 disposals in tricky conditions for ball use. He showed great leadership late in the game to compose us and set things up from behind the play. Had a solid game.
Tom Silvestro
18 disposals, four marks, four clearances, three tackles
Continues to show his growth as a player. Regularly gaining over 18 possessions at the moment, which isn't something he was doing early in the year. His hard running is such a feature. He’s a great role player for us.
Jake Aarts
15 disposals, four tackles, two clearances
Probably the most improved player on our list at the moment. Had 15 disposals playing as a small forward ― his pressure and intensity around the contest was really strong. He is so important in our structure.
Kayle Kirby
Five goals, 13 disposals, 11 contested possessions, two tackles
Our 23rd player and a real surprise packet. No one expected five goals from him, but had some really strong contests with 11 contested possessions. He was a real standout and is a real talent.
Daniel Coffield
12 disposals, six contested possessions, three marks
Probably our most consistent defender for four quarters on the day. He was rarely beaten in the contest — strong in the air, both spoiling and marking, in what was a good game from him.
Ryan Gale
Nine disposals, six uncontested possessions, three marks
Had a poor game to his standards. He was beaten in many one-on-ones, we need a spike from Ryan and he’s a better player than that.

So playing in our reserves at the moment are
Pick 6 2010 draft- Reece Conca
Pick 8 2008 draft- Tyrone Vickery
Pick 12 2014 draft- Corey Ellis
Pick 12 2013 draft- Ben Lennon
Pick 33 2013 draft- Liam McBean
With pick 26 of 2011 draft- Todd Elton playing only his 3rd game on the weekend after 5 years on the list and with
Pick 15 of 2011 draft Brandon Ellis getting AFL games when clearly he should be playing with the rest of this mob in the two's.
It's no wonder we are stuffed!

No wonder

And I ask the question, Why was it a surprise?
Aren't they watching him to know his natural capabilities? Didn't Betamax know about this kid already?
Well hopefully they sent Betamax a highlights tape of the game.

Ben Lennon
Eight disposals, one goal, one tackle
Returned from the AFL and struggled to have any influence on the game. Only had eight disposals, and we need him to work harder from contest-to-contest and also have more influence in the defensive part of his game.
Sigh...
This bloke does not care any more. I'm thinking trade at this point.

It's a wonder he doesn't have depression. Not only was he picked by us but just when he was going to be traded he somehow managed to stay.

Lennon barely wanted to be here this year but stayed on due to promises made that ultimately weren't kept. He's losing interest and fast
Oh and Miles is way too good for this level
-
Lennon was woeful
-
I have no doubt the club has not handled him as well as they should have, but regardless, Lennon looks to have a terrible attitude.
Disgruntled or not, you still go 100% at training and in games. Not sure he has done this.
