It's odd that Butler isn't playing today unless he's still too underdone or his injury has flared up again.
Unless our VFL side wins today and Butler plays a full game of VFL next week then it's hard to see him playing seniors again this year.
-
Sam Lloyd??
-
I thought the same thing MT. Does anyone have any intel as I suspect he may be injured again
-
I thought the same thing MT. Does anyone have any intel as I suspect he may be injured again
no intel but he looked like he was limping during the game last week & Dimma said they would be resting him so not sure why the surprise at him not playing
-
Sam Lloyd??
is named in side ??
-
Ellis/Lloyd are the only 2 I could see getting into our senior side (others are chance if there's injuries I guess) but it'd only be one of them IMO. Butler has missed a bit too much footy I reckon but hopefully we win today and he gets a full game next week.
-
And good to see the Cholster is fit again!
-
Butler has missed a bit too much footy I reckon but hopefully we win today and he gets a full game next week.
I agree, but he is clearly seen as being a key to the side. I just hope our coaches resist the urge to play him in the grandfinal if he isn't right.
-
Here we go.
-
Essendon straight out of the centre for a point.
0 - 1
-
C.Ellis out of the backline to Aarts. Goes long and over the Bombers zone and good mark by Ballard at HF. Goes inside 50. We win the ball at ground level and chip to Miles 35 out directly in front. Goal :gotigers
Rich 1.0-6
Ess 0.1-1
-
Why no Bulter?
-
Looks like Green playing a defensive role on Brando. C'mon Miles slot it son
-
Why no Bulter?
Read page one mate
-
Soldo with a massive tackle there :o
-
Ball-up deep in Essendon's fwd line and Ernest gets pinged for HTB. Goal to them.
6 - 7
-
Shocking kick by Soldo. Sideways straight to a Bomber.
We get it back in defence by Markov's kick is turned over in the centre. He then gives a free away on D50.
We get it back again in defence but turn it over. Story of the last couple of minutes. Finding it hard to break out of our back half.
-
Inside 50s: 2 - 8.
We've had 6 defensive rebounds. Essendon not hitting the scoreboard so it's not hurting us.
We finally break out via lloyd's switch. Ends up with Stengle on a tight angle. Nails it :clapping :gotigers.
Rich 2.0-12
Ess 1.1-7
12 mins Q1
-
Hi guys
Appreciate the coverage on here.
Please keep it coming.
-
Great smother by Garth. Ess have another snap but our defensive pressure forces the snap at goal OOTF.
Stoppage on Dons' D50. They kick it forward but Garth cleverly rushes it through without making it deliberate.
12 - 8
-
Some of our decision making and skill has been terrible
-
We go inside 50 via both B&C Ellis but Moore can't mark in the contest. Kicks it around his body to the pocket but Thompson turns it over via hand.
Good forward pressure and chase by Silvestro causes the turnover 80 out but Miles kick inside 50 is picked off.
Free to Ernest 80 out. Deep to the hot spot. Ball-up 30 out. Lloyd pinged for HTB/throw. Essendon clear.
Garth's tackle (nothing malicious) on the wing dislocates a Bomber's shoulder. Play stopped.
-
We got out with 6 Tigers running together but Mannagh's handball is poor and turned over. Stoppage.
A couple more stoppages across the centre. Essendon win the clearance and go inside 50. Our clearing kick is chopped off and they find Stewart 40 out. Misses.
12 - 9

Ball-up def. side of the square. Miles long kick is read better by the Essendon defender. They go forward and goal.

Younan goal. WHo the stuff is that
-
Ball-up def. side of the square. Miles long kick is read better by the Essendon defender. They go forward and goal.
12 - 15
29 mins Q1
Our forward line is struggling.
They're not getting good enough delivery. We are ballsing it up before we go inside 50 half the time.
-
We have a lot of players who just aren't natural footballers
Soldo
Moore
Markov
Getting smashed in the clearances
Forwards not playing in front.
-
What a stuffing grab by Lloydy
-
Making too many errors. We were out but Stengle's look-a-way handpass misses Ballard and goes out of bounds on the wing.
Free to silvestro at HB and his long kick is marked well by Moore 55 out. Goes deep. Ball-up 15 out.
Essendon's clearing kick is almost marked by Lloyd (courageous fly) who is pushed. Free after the siren from 50 out. Barrel goes and goes but it hits the post near the top.

McRae concerned by us losing the contested numbers. Equals losing territory.
-
Good spread. Much harder running. Morris switch to Ernest and he finds Miles 52 out. Goes deep but it's marked uncontested by an Essendon defender :banghead.
We get it back and much better play. Lowered our eyes and find Markov 55 out. Big kick and it's straight through the middle :gotigers.
Rich 3.1-19
Ess 2.3-15
-
Great snag by Markov
-
Soldo turnover bomber goal
-
Aarts mowed down an Essendon player running forward.
Gets it to Soldo on the grandstand wing. But he turns it over. They run it forward for a goal :banghead.
19 - 21
Soldo shouldn't be kicking. He's kicked it to Essendon players every time so far. Needs to hand it off to a mid running past.
-
Dropped mark by an Bomber on the wing. C.Ellis goes long inside 50. Moore outnumbered 1-to-2 but a fumble let's us in. CJ gets a free to sliding into the legs. Set shot 35 out misses.
Another Bomber down with a popped shoulder.
They go coast to coast from the kick-in for a point.
20 - 22

-
Gotta got the ball into B.Ellis's hands at all costs. A class above
-
Some terrible efforts there. Soldo taps it to Essendon's advantage then Ballard's attempted punch allows the Bombers to go forward and take a contested mark 15 out. Goal to them.
20 - 28

Chol now in the ruck.
-
Another 3 bomber clearances in a row bomber goal. Gotta b be concerned. In saying that we goal
-
Chol with a lovely tap straight away. Another to us

Straight out of the centre. Arts good hands and around the body to the goalsquare and Thompson soccers the goal :gotigers.
Needed that one.

Essendon go forward. Ball-up and a sloppy tackle by Mannagh gives them a long shot directly in front. We then switch off to allow the give off and it's a goal to them.
26 - 34
-
Oh FFS
-
More sloppiness free kick high tackle goal bombers.
-
FREE KICK ESSENDON
stuff OFF
-
Great play Cal Moore
-
Brandon Ellis is vital back there. I bagged him earlier, but Markov's composure and willingness to take it on has been good too.
-
Essendon forward and Green gets the free by the fence. Green kicks it into the man on the mark and Morris gets in his face and Morro gets the free :snidegrin.
Still in Essendon's fwd line. Quick clearing kick off balance by Corey Ellis and we get it out. Moore cleverly keeps handballs to himself it allow along the boundary from the wing to the F50 and gets the free for holding the jumper. To the hot spot and it's a ball-up.
Bomber clearing kick is picked off by Brandon Ellis. Goes inside but Essendon clear.
We get it back in defence but turn it over going to HF.
Brandon at HB goes the hospital to Aarts but he's good enough to get it off. Corey Ellis goes deep inside 50 and it's a downfield free. Lloyd set shot 30 out misses.
27 - 34
20 mins Q2
-
Brandon Ellis :clapping
-
Whoever 52 is needs to be dropped. Given away 2 or 3 stupid free kicks
-
Balta fearless
-
Good 1-2 by Morris. Naish goes across high 50 instead of deep looking for Menadue and misses the target. Essendon free and they clear.
Good second effort by Balta starting from HB earns a stoppage on the wing.
We win first possession but Mannagh takes to long and his rushed possession is turned over.
We get it back and Miller now fwd wins the free 60out. His deep kick is marked by Essendon :scream.
Dumb sloppy footy by us.
-
Menadue at HB to Stengle on the wing. To Aarts. Goes inside 50. Moore gathers then passes backwards into the corridor to no one and Essendon clear.
Sums us up this half :banghead.
-
We look nowhere near a top team in this half. Out tackled and generally outplayed
7 points down.
In big trouble
-
We get the free 60 out and Stengle takes the advantage and bursts inside 50 but the siren goes before he can kick (he butchered it anyway).
Half-time
Richmond 2.1 4.3-27
Essendon 2.3 5.4-34
Goals: Miles, Stengle, Markov, Thompson.
Ahhh well that was a half of garbage footy.
-
Balta has had 1-3 possessions YET his attack on the football is excellent and a future swingman.
Garth is excellent.
C Ellis is classy and clean YET for AFL he is to slow.
Struggling to connect plays together and poor skills killing us.
Too many silly frees!
Arts is a good player.
Not enough from Moore, Lloyd, Markov, Naish
Contested 70-75
I50 22-22
-
Geez that was hard to watch. VFL side lost their mojo 6 weeks ago. Can’t find many players you can credit after that half apart from garthy and maybe Brando.
-
We look nowhere near a top team in this half. Out tackled and generally outplayed

In big trouble
Yep. Getting smashed in the contested footy and clearances which continually puts us on the back foot. A few Tigers need to get more desperate.
We are also butchering the ball by hand and foot. Our decision making is terrible too. Just making every mistake in the book. Lucky to still be this close on the scoreboard.

Yep, don't see us making any changes to the seniors based on what we've seen in that first half.
We still will want to win this purely to have the whole list still training and playing. Hope McRae gives them a rocket a half-time after dishing up that sub-standard slop :banghead. Essendon are two down on the bench yet they are working harder.
-
Lloyd inside 50 straight to a Bomber defender leading out.
We get it back. Lloyd again deep inside 50. Scramble. Good smother by Mannagh forces the stoppage. Good share of hands leads to Thompson goaling :gotigers.

Bombers inside 50 and they get another mark and set shot. Luckily Stewart is a dud kick.

Good composure by BEllis and a great leg by Markov setting this chance up

C.Ellis out of the stoppage on the wing goes deep but it carries and Essendon mark.
Brandon caught HTB at HB. They go long. Two Tigers in front but it comes off Soldo fist and goes over the back to Green who kicks the easiest of goals :banghead
34 - 47
Soldo is best for Essendon today.

Ballard a very avwrage footballer

Geez we've done some dumb things today. Moore just needed to work it to the boundary for the fwd stoppage. Not chip it backwards allowing Essendon to clear.
Comedy of errors by both sides. Bad turnover by Essendon let's us in. Lloyd's pass inside 50 to an open Ballard misses the target. Moore's snap misses.

Menadue then repeats the effort on the run :facepalm.'
We are our own worst enemy today. 3/4ers of butchering the ball.

Geez Stengle is out of form. Second guessing himself.

Balta drops the mark in defence. Green's snap is called touched by Garth despite going through.

Pathetic skills on display out here.
Mannagh and Ballard dueling for biggest muppet award

We clear from defence. Moore marks 70 out but his pass to Stengle misses the target and it's a throw-in. Essendon clear.
Our forward line has been hopeless today.

Really dissapointing to lose to those pricks. Didn't deserve to win today. Lots of sloppy free kicks and poor decision making. Time to move on a few that won't make it and redraft some fresh meat. Pass on any of the vfl players listed by us.
B Ellis did exactly what he did 2 weeks ago. Handball to no one rather than take a hit. Trade bait for sure
-
Don't deserve to win when you dish up amateur slop for 3/4ers and then miss 3 gettable set shots in the last that would've won the game :banghead.
They were down two on the bench for most of the game too. Kept them in the game in the last with our poor goalkicking and then got punished with a sucker counterattack goal that won them the game :banghead.

Was our best player. You'd know it if you had a TV or enough money to attend the game. :thumbsup
Yeah too bad for Brandine the senior coaches don't either.... :shh
Fancy a wager?
If BEllis plays in the prelim, you change your username to 'WA Tiger'. If he doesn't, I'll buy you a TV so you can watch the 2's from time to time :shh

I was there and if you think he was our best you are blind
He is a disgrace that bloke
He was our best. 25 touches at 80+ % efficiency
-
The team has not had the same spark since Bolton went down with his knee....
Fact.
Add Stengle turning in his two worst performances fur the club in consecutive weeks, Moore losing form since he came back from the seniors.....Chol was a big loss too and was clearly undercooked today after such a long time out.... :shh
,...and BEllis makes any side worse.... :shh :shh

It's what Brandon does without the ball that is why he is in the ressies. A couple of terrible 'efforts' when he had to attack the contest and put his body on the line. It's why Floss, Short, Houli and Broad are now all ahead of him.
-
Wgaf they were meaningless touches and I have defended him many times
I hope he enjoys the holiday season as he is cooked for the year
As for stengle I think we saw why he isn’t in the seniors
-
You all really should watch the replay and look at the amount of attacks he launched off half back with his good hands, leg & composure. He & Markov set up most of our good play today.
The fact we lose a game and you all blame Ellis is laughable really
-
No one from today’s game should come in.
Balta, Garth, Markov, Menadue KEEP on the list.
everyone is in hot water.
C Ellis, Miles, Lloyd tradeable?
Moore? Stengle?
B Ellis ... YES most touches, YES attacked the football hoping he wouldn’t get hurt.
Missed tackles, short kicks, wouldn’t say he was influential at all.
C Ellis was more influential than B Ellis.

Lloyd was the most disappointing. Unlike most of those out there this guy was a genuine shot to come into the seniors and he didn’t fire a shot.
We’re defs missing Bolton, baker and Towner.

No-one is soley blaming BEllis but fact is he's a senior premiership player who needed to lead by example and while he may have done a few nice things of half back whenever he was afforded enough time & space he also avoided real contact all day, repeatedly sold his teammates into trouble and panicked and shyte himself when it most mattered.....deep down you know we're right because you saw what everyone saw and it was all fairly obvious...... :shh

Axed Tiger shines in heartbreaking VFL loss
Sarah Black

BRANDON Ellis was in Richmond's best in the Tigers' heartbreaking five-point semi-final loss to Essendon in the VFL.
The running defender, who was omitted from the Tigers' senior side for Thursday night's qualifying final win, put his name up for a preliminary final recall with 24 disposals and three marks.
He also spent time on the wing but wouldn't want to watch back the final minute of the match, failing to nail a tackle on VFL Bomber Nick Hind in the middle of the ground. It saw Hind break away and kick to James Stewart, who won the game with the resultant set shot.
"I thought he was really important, particularly late in the game when the pressure was at its highest, he was the one standing up," Richmond's VFL coach Craig McRae said.
"He was stiff to miss out on an AFL opportunity. If something presents, he'll be ready for it, I'm sure."
Classy small forward Dan Butler didn't play after pulling up sore from his first match back from ankle syndesmosis surgery last week.
"They thought just an extra week's rest to get rid of any soreness, then he can build up again. He would have been available to play next week, but we don't have a game," McRae said.
Richmond's AFL side didn't record any major injuries after its win over Hawthorn, and as it stands two weeks out from the match, will only make changes based on form, rather than injury.
Pacy midfielder Connor Menadue could come under consideration if needed, topping the combined stats sheet with 26 touches, eight marks and two goals.
Sam Lloyd (18 disposals and eight tackles) had a quieter day by his VFL standards, while Corey Ellis (23) played predominantly in the middle.
Forward Callum Moore (two goals and five marks) worked hard, presenting well up the ground, while Oleg Markov (15 touches) was quick off half-back.
Key back Ryan Garthwaite, who will be first in line for a game if there's any injury to Richmond's defenders, battled hard, finishing the match in tears after the last-gasp loss.
The Bombers, who finished eighth at the end of the home and away season, had been the better side for most of the see-sawing affair at North Port Oval.
Richmond was the minor premier but has crashed out in straight sets after last week's qualifying loss to Williamstown.
"We've had a really good year, but just probably the last two or three weeks, we've lost our way a little bit compared to what we were doing at the start of the year," McRae said.
"We've got a lot of young players who were looking a little bit towards the end line. Credit to the opposition, I thought they were terrific. For a team who hasn't had their AFL guys available or training with them, they've done a good job, they played really well."

If it's your own opinion then obvious no link is required.

If you use info from another source/site then you should post a link from which is came. Not only so everyone else knows where it came from and can check it out but to also give credit to that original source.

No problem :)

I only caught the second half but I thought Markov and Bolta were very good.
With a bit of luck next year, Markov takes Houli’s spot acrosd half back and Bolta takes Grigg’s spot.
Markov’s pace and use of the footy was easily AFL standard and Bolta could be anything.
Exciting times ahead with some of our youngsters coming through. What an advantage it’s is not having to throw them into senior footy too early.
-
Miles and Lloyd were soundly beaten and that's where the game was lost. Gath gave away a huge 50 when slapping the ball away in frustration...a lesson for the young man. Menadue, C Ellis, Markov and B Ellis best. Shame Butler won't get another game before the preliminary final which could spell the end of his year. See ya Miles and good luck including Lloyd should you also leave.
-
Out in straight sets after winning the minor premiership.
I think heads should roll. :rollin
-
The contentious "holding the ball" free kick paid against Balta during the last quarter plus the 50m penalty:
VIDEO: https://twitter.com/7VFL/status/1038292130299400192
-
Two poo decisions back to back.
First of all the tackle didn’t stick, and second he didn’t drop or fumble the footy.
The tackle attempt happen next to the boundary line and Bolta was forced over the line. Just because he had run with the footy doesn’t make the rules change when the tackle happened.
It should have been a throw in.
Then the 50- the ball landed at the feet of the Essendon player- if he bends he catches the footy.
In finals the umpires need to be better than that. He got sucked in by the crowd noise IMO.

Why wasn’t the game at PRO? Sorry, I didn’t get the memo.
Didn’t we finish on top? Don’t we get a home final twice?

All VFL finals in weeks 2 (semis) and week (prelims) are to be palyed at the Port Melb (north port oval) ground
Long standing VFL deal in place. Over the years a number of clubs has tried to get it changed with no success.

I agree with all points. Once Balta was moved from a defensive position he was a cut above all of our team and Markov takes the game on.

Our mega club really should start flexing its considerably large muscles now.

With respect, we are not a "Mega" club in the VFL comp. We are one team in the comp and we are required to follow the rules that are set by the competition
People need to understand that the VFL is an independent competition, it is not the AFL reserves.
So we can stomp our feet, carry on about being the biggest club in the country but when it comes to the VFL, we are just another VFL side. Our AFL status has no (and shouldn't either BTW) bearing on our standing in the VFL
-
If anything hopefully this is just another reminder for our seniors that finishing on top is no gaurantee to walk into a grand final. I'm sure they know that, but Dan that was disappointing to go out in straight sets.

I would have thought Stengle would have gotten a couple of games in the 1's.
Must be doing something wrong?
-
Which is why it's time for a stand alone AFL reserves comp. :shh
Probably but until there is we accept the rules of the comp we are in.
Actually it is an interesting discussion; what does the AFL do? Stand alone reserve comp which they would need to fund, costing more than what they give the state comps now or retain the stauts quo?

Probably keep funding the VFL. An exodus would kill the state level comp.
-
AFL could easiy fund a reserves comp and the state leagues as well....whether they could actually run them professionally however is another matter entirely.... :shh
