Last year when we played the Bulldogs (who were in the Eight at the time), we were coming off a loss and sitting 9th at 4-3-1.
Missing were Vlastuin, Prestia, Edwards, Astbury, Houli, Rioli & Nankervis.
In the side were Ross, Higgins, Soldo, Markov, Chol, Eggy & Stack.
We won by 7 goals.

Can only hope for a similar miracle this week :P :pray.

Scraggers & their umps are going to go in dry - expecting Chucky to bump the Sack Hardwick thread within an hour of the final siren... :shh
-
The Bulldogs will make at least four changes with Tim English (concussion), Josh Dunkley (shoulder), Lin Jong (hamstring) and Laitham Vandermeer (back) all out of the side that extended their winning streak to six in a row.
Patrick Lipinski will come in with Mitch Wallis, Rhylee West, Mitch Hannan and Josh Schache and No.1 draft pick Jamarra Ugle-Hagan all in consideration.

Burning Questions: Round 7
Ben Waterworth, David Zita and Matt Balmer
Foxsports
29 April 2021
How will Richmond go without Dusty?
Dustin Martin has been a valuable asset for the Tigers playing 250 of a possible 258 games. But with the superstar ruled out through concussion, Damien Hardwick will need to rejig his plans for the massive clash with the Western Bulldogs. There isn’t a huge sample size to outline how the Tigers go without Martin, but the last time the midfielder didn’t play, Richmond was defeated by 32 points against Hawthorn in 2020. With Trent Cotchin under pressure following a slow start to the year, there is going to need to be a clear lift from the entire side to fill the boots of Martin.
Will the Bulldogs deliver at the MCG?
Luke Beveridge’s team has already had a few tests in 2021 given they have faced likely top-eight teams Brisbane and West Coast at home. But time will tell as to how they can go against a big Victorian team at the MCG with the Tigers having plenty to play for. Expectations are high on the Bulldogs after the perfect start to season 2021 and that will only grow if they can get over the Tigers at the MCG, on a ground the two teams could well meet at in September. The Dogs have won just two of their past five games at the MCG. It isn’t all smooth sailing for the Dogs given the injuries to Josh Dunkley and Tim English, but with a midfield brigade stronger than any in the competition, it won’t shatter their chances of victory.

Scraggers & their umps are going to go in dry - expecting Chucky to bump the Sack Hardwick thread within an hour of the final siren... :shh
You have read my mind
I’m not use to this losing poo and their is just no excuses
-
Personally I'm sick of us continually picking players who watch the ball onto their foot when kicking
-
The Bulldogs are mauling the competition. This is how they can be stopped
The Tigers will need to be alert in the middle of the ground and very tight in the midfield, stopping the opportunity for players to run forward at speed.
“They [Bulldogs] are clearly the best clearance team in the competition, +9 clearances per week. It’s off the back of roles.
“In tight and tough is the Libba (Tom Liberatore) zone, it has been Dunkley at times but Libba is the one that gets absolute toenails of the ruckman and then it is out for the next layer, the ripple effect.
“That’s clearance, that’s absolute clearance, +9 in the competition so they’re starting with the ball nine times a week more than you, great starting point.”
A key statistic to success in 2021 has been the post clearance contested possession numbers with the AFL’s two undefeated teams being ranked in the top two across the competition.
“Once we see that ripple affect or layers and handball game come into it, now look at the next possession,” King continued.
“Outside of clearance you’ve got the post clearance contested possession ball game, so one that ball leaves clearance what happens then.
“They are not only the best post clearance team in terms of contested possession winning that next contest, but they are No.1 by a significant margin.
“They are +100, the next is Melbourne on +75. If you put the two together, they are double the gap between the Dogs and the Demons in terms of pre and post clearance. They are that tough, they are impossible to stop.”

Need some way to go to close to breaking even in the middle for us to win tonight. Nank is going to have to have the better of Stefan Martin to upset the Dogs stoppage set-ups. We can't allow Macrae to waltz around freely either. Hopefully being the underdog and the hunter tonight brings 4 quarters of greater intensity, team pressure and tackling.
Also can our forwards play in front tonight with our small forwards front and square to apply forward pressure so the Dogs HBs don't just easily rebound from the front/defensive side of contests like we allowed Melbourne to do last week :banghead.
I'm guessing Astbury will get Bruce while Balta gets Naughton. The latter is the Dogs' classier marking target threat up forward. We've been burnt by Naughton one before.
-
So you're allowed to tackle us without the ball ::).
-
Not an easy kick but we're got to take our chances. Can't waste inside 50s again.
-
Here we go again with the anti-Richmond umps ::). Tackled 360+ degrees is HTB >:(.
So we're denied a goal and they get one from the non-decision :thumbsdown.
-
You’d think so when he just dropped it. 12 point turn around!
-
3 behinds :scream.
Wasting chances again :banghead.
-
Lynch and Jack are working hard tonight.
-
:facepalm.
Lynch finally getting his hands on it but he's blowing it.
-
Lynch and Jack are working hard tonight.
True but they are paid to kick goals not points :P.
-
Lucky they are missing too.
4 - 9
-
Why is Aarts still in the side?
-
I feel like calling this already :banghead
-
You can handle being beaten by a better side but not when we stuff up the basics. Missing goals at our end and then allowing uncontested marks and soft goals in their F50 :banghead.
-
3 dogs raffle the long bomb for goal.
Catch and Houli’s disposal was terrible on that back stuff and we get what we deserve.
-
Geez out backline disposal is garbage and has been all year.
-
Trying a different gameplan tonight and it could work if we could actually hit targets :facepalm.
-
Lynch has got the yips. No way should he have given that off to Aarts :help.
Lucky we still got the goal.
Rich 1.4-10
WB 3.6-24
-
Well that’s the only way Aarts can get his hands on it that quarter.
-
Lynch could not hit the side of a barn at the minute. Like watching yellow and black witches hats in that quarter. How can our system be so broken, we just look clueless to stop their forwards whilst we make it look so hard inside our forward line.
-
Lynch 7 marks and 0.3.
Aarts should have told him to go back and kick the goal ffs. Needs to get on a roll.
-
Quarter time
Richmond 1.4-10
W.Bulldogs 3.6-24
Goals: Aarts.
Sheesh, we're a team down on confidence. Basic mistakes galore :facepalm.
Oddly should have 5 goals ourselves from our chances (like last week) but also lucky to be only two down given the freebies we've given the Dogs and how they started winning all the centre clearances :P.
-
Why is Aarts still in the side?
Will be there for the next three after kicking a cheap goal.
-
Well that’s the only way Aarts can get his hands on it that quarter.
LOL. He should've been dropped weeks ago.
Like watching yellow and black witches hats in that quarter. How can our system be so broken, we just look clueless to stop their forwards whilst we make it look so hard inside our forward line.
Schoolboy turnovers leaves us exposed on defence. We're spreading to offer options and then we turn it over and there is free Dogs everywhere.
-
The goals are between the two big sticks, Tigers! :banghead
-
Holding the ball still exist?
-
We just create so much of our own pressure. Player with the ball has space and gives it to a guy under pressure. That under ground handball from Rioli on the wing is a prime example.
-
Panicking, fumbling and blind kicks in defence coughs up a goal :banghead
This will be ugly if this continues :-\.
-
Where are our small forwards at the fall of the ball there? :banghead
-
Aarts ::).
1.6 when we should be 6.1 :banghead
-
Why wasn't that a free to Bolton?
-
Now they are all scared to shoot and miss.
-
No such thing as HTB tonight ::)
-
Now we've all got the yips :banghead :facepalm.
-
Can't win if you can't simply kick a ball between two big sticks while the other side can :banghead.
-
7 of the last 8 inside 50s for nothing and they run it up once for goal :banghead.
-
Unfortunately we are a shadow of our former selves
-
Seriously this isn't even amateur stuff it's so disgraceful. U10s could kick straighter than us tonight :help.
-
Unfortunately we are a shadow of our former selves
Not so much in general play this quarter. We're actually having the better of it. We're just shooting ourselves in the foot in front of the sticks.
-
Why wasn't that a free to Bolton?
Why would u ask. He is yellow and black so no need to give him one. The club has taken it up the ass for 4 years without complaining so why would we get a free
-
Just run straight and kick through the centre mass of the ball, Tom!
Didn't make the distance and it's rushed. 1.8 and another OOTF :banghead.
-
Only way we couldn't miss. Bolton 1m out. Finally!
Rich 2.8-20
WB 5.8-38
-
Cheats!
Two different rules for each team >:(.
-
HTB is being adjudicated completely different for each team tonight.
Disgusted.
-
Cheating in full swing tonight.
-
Bottomjelly with a classic flop sucks a free out of the umps .... :-*
-
Half-time
Richmond 1.4 2.8-20
W.Bulldogs 3.6 5.9-39
Goals: Aarts, Bolton.
Easy to sum up that joke of a quarter. On top in general play but can't kick a goal to save ourselves unless it's play on 1m out.
Umpiring is a disgrace >:(. Dogs scragging us and continually illegally disposing the ball in the tackle and it's called play on while we get pinged ::).
-
How much are these guys paid and they can't kick a ball straight. It amazes me how poor our disposal is, it's like we just got introduced to an oval shaped ball. Even 20 metre passes look difficult for us. There has to be an explanation, this isn't the new rules, these are the fundamentals that we can't get right. The best coach in the world can't do much when players can't execute basic skills.
-
That we are only 19 points down is a miracle
That the umpiring is disgraceful isn't
Actually have an AFL umpire sitting a few seats down from me even his put his head in hands over a couple of decisions
-
Why is it that all of a sudden our small forwards are poo?
Aarts letting Caleb Daniel do what he likes out of defence.
Rioli fumbling everything. Castagna doesn’t think before he does anything.
:help
-
That we are only 19 points down is a miracle
We would be in front if we could actually kick a goal even just on average. Most of our shots missed have been sitters :banghead.
That the umpiring is disgraceful isn't
Actually have an AFL umpire sitting a few seats down from me even his put his head in hands over a couple of decisions
Is the ump in the stand going to say or do anything about it to his peers? Until the umps can be critiqued on their decisions it will only continue to get worse.
-
Tell me why we keep bombing it in game after game never learn just play into other teams hands yet we got free players available.
-
No one tell me our skills haven't gone backwards we never use turn the ball over this bad to.
-
Why is it that all of a sudden our small forwards are poo?
Aarts letting Caleb Daniel do what he likes out of defence.
Rioli fumbling everything. Castagna doesn’t think before he does anything.
:help
They are not working hard enough. Lost in no man's land. Neither at the fall of the ball and not near their direct Bulldog defender.
-
That handball by Baker sums up our problems. Got 5 meters on his man, can load up deep inside 50 and gives a hospital handball to a guy behind him who has pressure.
-
Nah we don't get HTB ::)
-
Baker and Balta would be our two best so far.
-
Hooray! Jack straight through the middle :gotigers
Rich 3.8-26
WB 5.9-39
-
That’s just stupid and selfish and no respect for his team mate.
-
Baker to the square and Lynch marks. Finally he puts it through :gotigers.
Rich 4.8-32
WB 5.9-39
Game on!
-
Baker to the forward line is a big win at the moment
-
Graham snaps a goal from the stoppage :gotigers
Rich 5.8-38
WB 5.9-39
-
That was HTB against West :banghead.
-
Whatever happens tonight the Dogs have been exposed down back against talls.
-
Baker has been red hot all night. Cotch is rolling now.
-
Lynch strong mark and goal! :gotigers
We're in front!
Rich 6.9-45
WB 5.9-39
-
How many centre clearances has Bolton had? Killing it.
-
Now we’re fight to have shots at goal. Keep rolling boys!
-
That was a ridiculous free kick lol
We will take it for once
-
Again we cop the HTB and the don't ::)
-
That female umpire is so inconsistent. Wont pay a holding the ball for us down forward. But their defenders can get away with murder.
Now here comes the umps changing the momentum.
-
Protect the defensive corridor Tiges :banghead
-
The umpiring bringing the dogs back in the game here
-
Very lucky there Short.
-
Lynch has got his radar back :gotigers
Rich 7.10-52
WB 6.9-45
-
That was high on Rioli = no free ::)
-
Umps will try and win it for the dogs but weve been terrific the last 30 odd minutes.
-
3/4 time
Richmond 1.4 2.8 7.10-52
W.Bulldogs 3.6 5.9 6.10-46
Goals: Lynch 3, Riewoldt, Aarts, Bolton, Graham.
Makes a difference when you kick straight.
Still playing against 25 ::).
-
How are we seeing RCDs debut game?
-
Half a step off the pace, but is tackling. Great game to get his feet wet.
-
How are we seeing RCDs debut game?
Not quite with the speed yet but will get better with exposure. Love the tackeling
-
How are we seeing RCDs debut game?
Good enough.
Proves you don't need to debut a kid against a crap team. He's either up to it or he isn't.
Remember DES debut against the Roos? Haha.
-
How did Cordy get rid of that? ::)
-
Nank is back to his best. Especially the tackling and ground ball work.
-
Umps already started their garbage
-
Geez that was a soft free kick in the ruck.
-
Aarts... that was atrocious.
-
Aarts too slow when we had the overlap and then kicks it OOTF :facepalm.
-
Mansells developing well. RCD not out of place.
-
Good switch of play and greating crumbing by Baker :gotigers
Rich 8.11-59
WB 6.11-47
-
Poor defending :scream. Didn't kill the ball over the boundary and then didn't man up.
-
Ball was in 3rd row bulldogs allowed to play on.
-
Ball was in 3rd row bulldogs allowed to play on.
It was in
-
Dumb by Cotch.
These umps :facepalm. Two 10m passes by the Dogs paid marks.
-
We are being a bit too cute right now.
-
Shocking defending on the line by the Dogs there but we'll take it. Houli goal :gotigers.
Rich 9.11-65
WB 7.12-54
-
Geez Aarts :scream.
-
Thank goodness
-
Great play. Lynch from the ruck to Bolts who shimmies for a goal :gotigers
Rich 10.11-71
WB 7.12-54
-
Just give Bolton a blank cheque. He is a beauty!
-
Cotch subbed off. What's wrong?
-
One of the great wins this one.
-
Lucky we got it back Jake after that fumble and you got to make amends. Bolton goal :gotigers
Rich 11.11-77
WB 7.13-55
-
One of the great wins this one.
Absolutely Ramps! :thumbsup
-
What a win!
-
Up there with the port game in 2019. Sensational.
-
Jack hurt or ok?
-
Won by 22 pts :gotigers
Gutsy win against the odds, Tiges :clapping
-
Jack hurt or ok?
Hoping it's only cramp (?) the way they were bending his foot back as he was stretching his leg.
-
Cramp
-
Final Score
Richmond 1.4 2.8 7.10 11.11-77
W.Bulldogs 3.6 5.9 6.10 7.13-55
Goals: Lynch 3, Bolton 3, Riewoldt, Aarts, Graham, Baker, Houli.
-
What a win! Someone said it earlier but very similar to that win over port with heaps of stars missing in 2019. Our entire defence was great once the zone was sorted. Best ons for me being Nank, baker, Bolton and Lynchy.
That third quarter was a sight to behold. If we can start playing like that for longer stretches of games there’s no team that can stop us.

Our defensive structure wasn’t working properly in the first quarter and a half.
It starting clicking half way through the second when we started to gain territory and lock it in our half but couldn’t find a goal and the dogs got one or two through a leak and fast counter attack.
One the third quarter started we had full control of the ground.
Nankervis was awesome all night I agree that he is probably leading our B&F.
Pickett has proved me wrong time and time again this year. His work off the footy is incredible and he just gets to contests all over the ground. I love what he brings to the midfield.
Cotchin just knows how to get us out of trouble and do things that inspire the team. He spent a while on the bench with a towel on his head I thought he might have concussion but he came back out again and was subbed off later not sure why.
Baker is an extraordinary good player. He’s like a Jackinabox pops up anywhere and just tries his best rarely gets beaten but even still fights for it. He has some nice skill too
Bolton is showing everyone that he is worth paying money to come and see him play he has that X factor every week.
Balta killed Schache hopefully he gains some needed confidence from that.
Lynch killed Cordy. Hopefully he gains some needed confidence from his performance last night.
Houli was back to playing his type of game.
-
Tigeritis, what both Lynch and Balta highlighted is the lack of quality KP’s in the Dogs list. They were crazy not to play Ugle-Hagan last night as Schache is a known commodity that we know is easy to exploit.
Baker, what a stroke of genius to get him forward.
I reckon from the presser before the game until the final siren - Dimma had a great week.

Spot on. I also though our tackling was first rate. Baker is fantastic with his tackling as well.

Showed that we still have IT and are far from losing it, look out come the run home. Ours to lose again me thinks!

They must of really peeed some of em off with some banter coz they came out hard at half time, I think they tucked the experiments away and just said rek em

AFL Report Card: Round 7
David Zita, Matt Balmer and Ben Waterworth
Foxsports
3 May 2021
RICHMOND
If you come at the king, you best not miss. That’s the message effectively delivered by the Tigers on Friday night, overcoming a half-time deficit and the absence of Dustin Martin to topple the previously undefeated Western Bulldogs in a win that has to be one the side’s best in the home-and-away season over the past few years. Anyone needing a reminder of Richmond’s premiership credentials were provided with overwhelming reassurance the reigning premiers are still the team to beat.
In the votes
After a week under the pump externally, Tom Lynch delivered on the field with three goals in the crucial third term, with only inaccuracy costing him a handful or more. Shai Bolton was brilliant in a pseudo-Dusty role, kicking three goals from 22 touches and threatening to take mark of the year on a couple of occasions. Bachar Houli was another who offered great rebound along with Jayden Short, Toby Nankervis threw his weight around and Trent Cotchin was fantastic before injury struck.
Room for improvement
Inaccuracy cost them early and they were beaten up at clearance in the second term before turning things around. Also room for improvement: Trent Cotchin’s hamstrings! Can’t seem to catch a break during the regular season when it comes to these niggles. He does a huge amount for them and will be missed and it isn’t great timing with a grand final rematch next week.

Gerard Healy, Garry Lyon, Jonathan Brown & Nick Riewoldt on On the Couch last night:
RICHMOND – ‘THE TEAM TO CATCH’
For the first time in four years, Riewoldt tipped against the Tigers
Like many pundits, Riewoldt sensed there were signs Richmond mightn’t be the same threat in 2021 as it was in previous seasons.
But Damien Hardwick’s men on Friday night gave the competition a scary remainder of their capabilities with a brilliant win over the Bulldogs.
“I can’t believe I fell into it,” Riewoldt told On The Couch.
“They’re the team to catch again.”
Brown, who was part of the Lions’ three-peat dynasty nearly two decades ago, said the Tigers dispelled any concerns over their credentials in one half of football as they piled on nine goals to two across the third and fourth quarters.
“Everyone’s waiting for the cliff. I’ve been part of it and seen first-hand when it comes for a dynasty team … but they blew that away in the second half,” Brown said.
The Tigers’ pressure and thirst for the contest – two trademarks of their premiership era – was on full display against the Dogs, leading to a post-clearance contested possession differential of +10.
Lyon described the Tigers as “vicious and ferocious” without the footy.
But the Melbourne great did have this warning for Richmond as it continues its push for a fourth flag in five seasons.
“History tells you it gets harder and harder,” Lyon said. “Yes Dusty (Martin) comes back and (Dylan) Grimes goes out and (Trent) Cotchin goes out, so father time catches up and injury bites at certain stages.”
WESTERN BULLDOGS – ‘BIG WATCH’ ON THE BACKS
The Bulldogs could only protect arguably their biggest Achilles heel for so long.
Across the first month of the season, the Dogs had just 38 defensive one-on-one contests — the fewest in the AFL – but had a loss rate of 36.8 per cent — the worst percentage in the competition.
Wins had been masking that small knock on the Dogs. Then they ran into the Tigers and Tom Lynch, who kicked three goals from 14 disposals and 12 marks (seven inside 50, four contested).
On Friday night, the Dogs lost 57 per cent of their one-on-one contests, according to Champion Data. That’s double the AFL average.
“They got Tom Lynch back into some pretty good form … He absolutely dominated Zaine Cordy. He just marked at will,” Brown said.
“They had goals kicked against them by the West Coast Eagles tall forwards (in Round 2), so it’s absolutely a big watch for the Western Bulldogs. It’s got a little bit of Melbourne about it from 2018 when Melbourne were flying but they had issues in their defensive 50 contest.”
Riewoldt suggested some individuals had also been found out by the Tigers in the Friday night spotlight.
“I think it was an audit on their system at times and it was an audit on their personnel,” Riewoldt said.
“I’d be really surprised if we see Josh Schache stay in the team. He was non-competitive at times as one of those really valued members of the three-headed monster up forward.
“Jason Johannisen is the other player. He played majority as a forward and he just looked lost and out of position a lot of times.”
