Introducing our 2023 Dreamtime jumper, designed by assistant coach, proud Larrakia and Amrreamo/Marritjavin man, Xavier Clarke and his family.

The artwork on the sash is from an original painting from Xavier’s uncle Timothy Dumoo, it depicts a Wangka (dance) from Clarke's people, the Marri Ammu Marri Tjevin clan of the Moyle River floodplains.
The Wangka tells the story of Elders calling out to their ancestors to protect and guide people while on Country. It represents looking after each other and looking after family.
Clarke said since first becoming involved with Richmond in 2017, he had found a similar trait, particularly between teammates. To depict this, the design includes 42 Merrepen leaves representing each player on the list.
In Clarke's family's culture, the Merrepen leaf is used to make woven dilly bags, fishing nets, and other fibre-craft products. Like a bond between football players, the leaves, when connected, can create something strong.

Nice jumper design probably one of the best but the nib logo kind of wrecks it.
-
For the fans I feel like we should be able to get a version of the jumper without the sponsor logos.
-
Try telling that to the companies shelling out millions of $$$ to be on the jersey lol
-
It’s a pipe dream I know but it would be epic if it did happen! Same for Anzac jumper
-
We’re talking sponsor logos? Really.
This is the biggest Dreamtime game - possibly ever.
-
How so? Both teams are in the bottom 8. I’m sure there’s been multiple dreamtime games where both teams were top8 at the time.

A lot on the line for both teams.
We can't afford to drop a winnable one like this and neither can they.

We have won our past 13 games against this mob .

Tigers eye AFL's best winning streak in Dreamtime clash
By Sarah Black
afl.com.au
17 May 2023
RICHMOND is a chance to claim outright ownership of the AFL's longest current winning streak against a single club when it faces Essendon on Saturday night.
The Tigers have won a whopping 13 games in a row against the Bombers, dating back to round 20, 2014, with an average victory margin of 29.3 points.
It's by far Richmond's longest current winning streak against any rival, with the next best being three straight victories over West Coast.
Yartapuulti [Port Adelaide] is also currently riding a 13-game winning streak against Gold Coast, the Power having never been beaten by the Suns since the initial match between the pair in 2011, which was the expansion club's first-ever win.
The Suns feature four times in the list of the biggest current losing streaks, having also struggled to beat Narrm, Brisbane and St Kilda.
The Power will next face the Suns in round 17.
The AFL's biggest current winning streaks
Club Opponent
13 Yartapuulti Gold Coast
13 Richmond Essendon
11 Narrm Gold Coast
10 Geelong North Melbourne
8 Brisbane Gold Coast
8 Essendon North Melbourne
8 St Kilda Gold Coast
The all-time VFL/AFL record for consecutive wins against one club is the 29 times in a row Collingwood beat Hawthorn between 1925 and 1941.
The last time the Bombers saluted against the Tigers was round 11, 2014 – a Dreamtime at the 'G match – where Brendon Goddard won the Yiooken Award in the 50-point triumph.
Dustin Fletcher, Paul Chapman, Paddy Ryder, Ivan Maric and Nathan Foley were some of the players to feature in that game at the MCG.
Richmond champion Dustin Martin is the only player to have won multiple Yiooken Awards, named player of the match in both 2016 and his Brownlow year of 2017.
He's a typically strong performer against the Bombers, averaging 26.2 disposals (his third highest against a club) and 1.3 goals (fifth), the only club to feature in both of Martin's top five for touches and majors.
Shane Edwards was the first Indigenous player to win the award, with Shai Bolton following up in 2020 at TIO Stadium, Darwin.
The Dreamtime game was also played at Optus Stadium the next year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but has been at the MCG every other season.

Setterfield out with foot fracture
-
From AAP:
Essendon players are expected to line up for a crack at taming Richmond's Dustin Martin as the Bombers attempt to beat the Tigers for the first time since 2014.
Defender Jake Kelly had loomed as one option on Martin when he swings forward but remains sidelined with concussion.
Scott was adamant Essendon's losing streak against Richmond wouldn't add any extra pressure.
"The easy answer for me is that was a long time ago, all those things, but the reality is Essendon fans want to beat Richmond and we're going to be doing everything we can to make sure that happens Saturday night," he said.
"No-one likes those sort of streaks against you and we'll be doing everything we can to arrest that."
Scott believed there wasn't anything beyond Richmond's quality that had contributed to the streak and noted Essendon had challenged them in some games.
"Richmond winning three flags through that period is a big part of it. They're just a good team," he said.
"If you go back, I've gone back through a few of those games, then you realise very quickly how irrelevant it is when you look at some of the personnel who are playing in those games - very different teams.
"I probably wasted a fair bit of time looking at it because I thought I'd find some sort of common themes, but there aren't too many that I can see other than Richmond keep winning."
Scott believed Richmond had returned to their ominous best as recruits like Tim Taranto settled.
"When there's changes in personnel, sometimes the system can look a little bit clunky, but they looked back to their best last week," he said.
"The positive about that is we're very clear about what that looks like.
"Countering it is another story altogether."

Essendon v Richmond Preview
Andrew Slevison
SEN
19 May 2023
Dreamtime at the ‘G is here for another year.
The annual Essendon v Richmond clash in Sir Doug Nicholls Round is a joyous event and a great under-lights spectacle, celebrating Indigenous players and their respective cultures.
The Bombers enter the 2023 edition on the back of a four-game losing streak, the latest being a 42-point defeat to Brisbane at the Gabba last weekend.
Brad Scott’s side has improved this year and appears a little sturdier in defence than they have been in recent years. That backline welcomes Jordan Ridley in after he missed the Lions loss with concussion, however, Jake Kelly remains sidelined with the same ailment.
There is a gaping hole or two in the middle with Darcy Parish (calf) out and now Will Setterfield (fractured foot) cast aside, which places extra pressure on captain Zach Merrett and Dylan Shiel.
They have to navigate a Tigers outfit that has found form in the past fortnight with wins over lowly West Coast and reigning premier Geelong.
Last week’s 24-point triumph over the Cats was impressive with their renowned manic pressure and rapid ball movement back in vogue, led by veterans Dustin Martin (19 disposals and four goals), Trent Cotchin (three goals) and Tim Taranto (28 disposals, 12 tackles)
Their midfield will lose Taranto's fellow recruit Jacob Hopper (calf) though.
Damien Hardwick’s Tigers have dominated the Dons in recent times, winning 13 in a row in a streak that dates back to 2014. Eight of those wins have been in Dreamtime games with an average winning margin of 30 points.
Richmond will also honour two milestone men - Nick Vlaustin (200 games) and Shai Bolton (100 games) - which bodes well as they have a decent record in milestone matches which includes Dion Prestia’s 200th last week.
Given Essendon’s personnel issues in the middle and with the Tigers seemingly purring again, the nod must be with the sash of the yellow and black persuasion to continue their winning run in this fixture.
Tip: Richmond by 18 points.

Round 10 Blowtorch: Essendon vs Richmond
David Zita, Ben Cotton, Jono Baruch and Max Laughton
Fox Sports
May 19th, 2023
Tigers’ burning question: Are they really back?
The Tigers channelled their simple minds last week with a rousing rendition of ‘Don’t you forget about me’ as they took down the reigning premiers. Despite still sitting in 13th position on the ladder, Richmond started showing signs of the Tigers of old against the reigning premiers with their breakneck style, accuracy and system in the face of a significant injury list still. With the opposition (Essendon) themselves battling injuries, Dreamtime at the ‘G looms as a tricky game but another one for the Tigers, if at their best, to send another message that they can cause some damage in the second half of the season as they start getting their stars back.
Bombers’ burning question: Who is going to take the midfield minutes suddenly on offer?
The Bombers are battling through an injury crisis with several important holes to fill across the park. With their tall stocks heavily depleted, the midfield absentees will be causing Brad Scott some headaches. Darcy Parish was ruled out last week for an extended period and now new recruit Will Setterfield’s foot injury will see him make way until after Essendon's bye. There are opportunities there to be taken but who will fill the minutes? With a string of winnable games on the horizon starting with the Tigers and then coming up against the Eagles, Roos and Blues, the opportunities are there to learn more about the capabilities of the list and expose some young players to the coalface. The recently re-signed Ben Hobbs is a prime example.

THE TEAMS UNDER THE MOST PRESSURE HEADING INTO ROUND 10
Dwayne Russell
SEN
19 May 2023
2 - Richmond
“Richmond’s still kind of in elimination final mode.
“We don’t know if Richmond is back or not. They’re not fully back, they’re not fully the old Richmond, but they might be.
“It’s a big test.
“Essendon have got to stop this losing streak at some stage. They’ve lost four in a row.
“But I’ve got Richmond at number two.”

How so? Both teams are in the bottom 8. I’m sure there’s been multiple dreamtime games where both teams were top8 at the time.
It’s normally how far the tigers going to win - this time, feels like a sliding doors moment potentially for both teams - or we just strong arm them again.
I have a feeling might be the moment Bombers announce they are overtaking us in the comp
-
Probably a bit of a grand final game for Bombers. Big feature game, season sorta on the line for both teams, big winning streak they'll want to wipe.
Hope we beat them silly and crush their hopes.
-
The big difference for me at least with this Dreamtime game is Brad Scott is coaching the Bombers this time round.
Historically we don't have a great records when he's coached against us.
Huge game on some many levels IMHO

THE CERTAINTIES FOR ROUND 10
Andrew Slevison
SEN
20 May 2023
Essendon versus Richmond
Vlastuin and Bolton to combine for 30+ disposals, 6+ marks and 1+ goal
Nick Vlastuin plays his 200th game on Saturday night.
The three-time premiership defender has had a solid season, averaging 18 disposals and 5.6 marks.
Shai Bolton plays his 100th game on Saturday night.
The electric forward/midfielder has found form of late and now averages 20 touches, 3.4 marks and 1.2 goals per game this season.
Richmond’s milestone men should combine for at least 30 disposals and six marks, while we’ll throw in at least one goal (thanks Shai).
Merrett to have 25+ disposals and 4+ clearances
Zach Merrett has a fairly decent record against the Tigers.
In his last five against them he has picked up 37, 33, 32, 34 and 30 touches (including a total of 30 clearances at 6 per game) while averaging 27.15 over 13 games career-wise.
In 2023, he is averaging 27.2 touches and 4.4 clearances, and with Darcy Parish and Will Setterfield out of the side, the Bombers are going to rely on him to deliver.
Against the Tigers on Saturday night, Merrett should be ticking off at least 25 disposals while adding four or more clearances to this stats sheet.

No Parish, Shiel or Setterfield.
We need to dominate the midfield battle.

Sheil remembered and poo his pants and “realised” he has an injury. :rollin
-
Play with the intensity, teamwork and accuracy in front of goal of the past 6 quarters and we win tonight. Dish up the lacklustre rubbish of most of the first 7 rounds and we'll get rolled. Agree with WP regarding Brad Scott who will likely use his Norf tactics of flooding our forward line and trying to hit us with sucker punch counterattacks. He tried that last week when the Bombers played Brisbane.

What’s our history against Brad coaching?
-
A lot to play for tonight. Cats went down to Freo so I think we finish 10th if we can jag the win?
Also I think brad Scott has a good history against us in his north days. I think he and Ross Lyon actually coach pretty well against dimma

What’s our history against Brad coaching?
Dimma is 4 wins and 7 losses against Brad Scott.

Interesting comment. "Professionalism" is a function of culture -- our culture. Westerners might describe themselves as professionals, but I wonder if such a concept even exists in indigenous cultures. I highly doubt it matters to them for their rituals to be performed "professionally". Sincerely? Yes. Spirited? Yes. But professionally? No.

That's 50! You can't run over the mark.

We've wasted chances and then they go up forward and we give away a free and a goal :scream.

You can't be tickling another man's shoulder like that. Imagine the tingles he might experience. Absolutely stone cold free kick. Hell, I woulda paid 50 as well!

Silly Grimesy. We've gifted a spud like Weideman two goals :facepalm.

Has been poor IMO. Don't think he's best 22

Nank had to mark that. Soft goal.

But playing some hero style football
Grimes and Vlastuin free kicks.
Balta kick straight into man on 45 degree mark.
Pickett 50m was dumb
Prestia casual snap after claiming a 5m mark
Trent snap kick inside 50m missed target
Nank casual dropped mark in defence.
Bolton everywhere but is jogging around.
How many marks have they had inside our F50?
We should be 3 goals up
-
Disgraceful foot skills and entries
-
Umpiring is rubbish.
Almost as bad as our forward 50 entries :help
-
Quarter time
Richmond 3.5-23
Essendon 4.1-25
Goals: Mansell 2, Ryan.
23 inside 50s to 11 and we're behind :banghead. Just can't bomb it in there every single time especially when they are flooding back.

Woeful forward 50 entries - absolutely Pathetic

Miles better side
But playing some hero style football
Bingo!
Too many attempted trick moves and not enough bread and butter disposal. Playing arrogant big-headed footy and stuffing up. Bolton is one of them. Playing like he did in the early rounds with the too cute stuff rather than sticking to the sensible first option footy of past two weeks.

Why the F are we playing Vlastuin on Weideman???

Hugo cannot kick.
stuffed the kick twice
-
FMD Hugo .... :banghead :thumbsdown
-
The last two mins sums up the game so far. Hugo two aimless kicks inside straight to Draper. Then they hit us on the counter :banghead.
-
How can we, at the very least, not even up the numbers 45 meters from the kicker and try and bring it to ground? Like how does a 5m bubble open up for Draper and there's no one else there, like it's some sort of bewildering event that the ball would land there?
-
We still can't kick inside 50. Sigh.
-
The short chipping by Essendon is the clearest indicator we aren't working hard enough. We are not on tonight. Need to stuff the switch Essendon are an awful side on paper made worse with no Shiel or Setterfield
Merrett is everywhere.
They have taken about 15 intercept marks in our forward half and we have dropped a heap of given free kicks away
-
Get Pickett up the ground or off.
-
That was a beautiful passage of netball there by Essendon.
-
Ross been good
-
Another gettable shot missed (Jack).
30 - 29
-
We are just CRYING OUT for a couple of half forwards who can deliver it inside 50. Short and Rioli is fine behind the ball, but there's seemingly no one up the field who can kick.
-
Just give the ball to Dusty seriously
-
Game has really degenerated in the last 5-10 mins.
Dusty says enough of this crap and kicks the goal :gotigers.

Inside 50s are disgusting. What the hell was Jack doing.
Thank god for Dustin. What a crab Weiderman is
-
Lol, that spud is lucky we gifted him a couple of goals early.
-
Can we have a sweeper at centrebounces who protects the defensive side and doesn't get sucked into the honey pot?!
-
We're -5% in overall disposal efficiency and our F50 efficiency is just 36% :banghead.
-
Cotch on his left, just delightful.

Oh thank god, the worst kick of the night is no longer from our team.

Balta getting smashed

Half-time
Richmond 3.5 6.6-42
Essendon 4.1 5.7-37
Goals: Mansell 2, Ryan, Martin, Taranto, Graham.
Two major problems for Dimma to fix plus a third one which showed up in the last 5 mins:
* Obviously, our dumb aimless F50 entries. We often have shorter and higher options to the ball-carrier but the ball-carrier has the blinkers on, ignores his free teammates and just bombs it long to outnumbered forwards :banghead.
* Centre clearances. It's even on the stats but Essendon are getting cleaner F50 entries from them.
* Last few Essendon attacks along the members wing have had two Bombers against one Tiger. Allowed Essendon to run the ball right up to the F50 line. Someone isn't doing their job and manning up.

Schoolboy errors and turnovers.

Sorry , you beat me to it

Grimes just showed why he’s a defender. 2 horrible kicks inside 50

Vlastuin lifting for his own 200th. :rollin
At this rate he'll be chairing himself off the ground!

Richmond 3.5 6.6 8.10-58
Essendon 4.1 5.7 6.10-46

Frustrating game.

Sheesh if only Dusty had managed to kick that last one.
Junkies look tired and can't take the heat.

I’m nervous :pray

I hate saying this but....
I scratched my head when they re-signed Grimes...tonight is highlighting why it is a perplexing decision

Dow subbed off.

Would think he gets another week and then....

Why won’t Jack Lead?
He isn’t going to win by grappling.

Samson Ryan doesn't want to touch the football! :banghead :banghead :banghead

My thoughts exactly. Pickett did well against 2 and when the ball spilled free he just stood and watched.

Omg KMac
No defensive work on Stringer at all. Needed to hold him up.

Samson has cost us the last two goals with soft 'efforts'.

Bring Miller back in next week. Just hopeless.

Omg Hugo.
The skill errors are going to cost us this game ffs.
There's only so many smokes I can smoke.

We will lose this.

We are just puking all over ourselves. Seriously!

No one presenting.

My word Cotch has lifted.

Cotch the only one with a bit of composure out there.
Mansell then kicks it OOTF :facepalm. Just needed to score.

Idiots!
Dish up schoolboy crap and got our desserts >:(.
-
If anybody wants me, I'll be in my room. :(
-
Start by dropping Ryan. If someone is not on the field to participate then move them on. Next, set a minimum disposal efficiency standard that you get dropped for not hitting. If you can't kick, you can't play in the seniors. That means you, Rhyan "better-than-cumberland" Mansell.
-
Short in the middle when the game is in the line was a huge mistake.
-
Arrogant lazy fecks Richmond
-
The most senior bloke out there cost us the game with the most stupid, pathetic kick along the ground straight to a bomber's player, easy clearance
I'm fuming.
-
Are you kidding me.
Grimes on bench.
Mansell miss.
Jack's kick off the ground to Ridley.
Kamdyns 20 kicks straight to opponents or out on the full.
Absolutely disgraceful by so many tonight. Bolton, Ross, Balta and Broad only worthy of a shower. Get stuffed boy that was absolutely poo.

That came off our pitiful use of the ball. Continually turned over the footy going forward and watched as they rebounded with sucker punches.

Grimes on the bench was a good call.
He was shocking tonight
The team's going nowhere while we're being led by Grimes and Nankervis. The players know they're not up to it anymore and it sends a really bad message to the group.

The expectations must change. We won’t win many games this year, and for the ones we do ( like last week ) people will gain false hope. It’s all about the future now

What a contrast to last week our skills and kicking back to amature level and the brain fades . Our senior players killed us tonight no composure whatsoever be nice if Dimma mentions it like he does with our youngsters. Yes, Jacks kick off the ground late was an awful decision by a senior player.
-
We lost it from the start. Turned up thinking we could waltz it in after last week's win and played arrogant footy in the first 15 mins and didn't put it on the scoreboard due to their flooding tactics which kept them in the game. Did the complete opposite of last week and played into Essendon's hands with an open rebounding game. No forward pressure and even when we did get chances, we didn't take most of them. Another close game (which it shouldn't have been) thrown away due to our own big-headedness, brainfades and stupidity.
Utterly ticked off. Game and season thrown away :banghead.

Cooked 100%

Time to put Rioli up forward again I think.
-
Bombers looked the better team after half time I'm sad to say.
-
Time to put Rioli up forward again I think.
I've wanted Rioli up forward for a while and put Short back in this role.
I thought it was sort of ironic that a small defender in Mansell missed a shot at goal to win the game and Rioli a natural forward missed a basic spoil that cost us the winning goal. Swap them around and I'd back Rioli to kick that goal and Mansell to spoil that.
-
Maybe the most glaring stat:
Marks for our forwards:
Jack 3
Mansell 2
Pickett 2
Yet Anthony Tippanwutti who looks like he has eaten 3 small animals had 3 marks. All uncontested. How on earth can Tippa have outmarked all of our 3 forwards. That comparison speaks volumes.
Our system was thrashed. Our ball movement is not good enough. Our forwardline is dysfunctional and not creating enough goal chances. Our effort tonight and willingness to run to space was not good enough.
-
Dimma Presser
If he mentions 'Oh look they are a pretty good side" I will throw up.
They are a crap side with 3 of their best 4 midfielders out and the 1 who was left had about 45 touches. Out coached Dimma and if the last 2 seasons hasn't shown that our system is now not top 4 let along premiership winning, then tonight did. A bunch of absolute dribblers lead by Merret who killed us and some discipline defenders in Ridley and McGrath (thought Redman was crap). We should not be getting beaten by this mob. Beat them by 70 points last year. And had no Parish or Shiel from last year, sure no Lynch but thats it. Lynch wouldn't have made any difference for how Essendon played the way they wanted to and won them the game.
-
Not happy not sad not even angry. Just don't care anymore. Have not watched the game and probably won't. unlike most here thought the result that happened was a good chance of happeneing. Its just where we are at and im sick of people kidding themselves.
To be honest ive lost interest to a big degree. 2017 WAS THE LONG WAIT. 2019 AND 2020 was the bonus
and i there is no longer that need to see success having waited so long.Truth is the game itself has gone to the dogs and is hardly worth watching any more.

Said it earlier without naming him
But not a doubt in my mind it cost us the game

Really wish the AFL included missed tackles & broken/ineffective tackles in the official stats. That's where all this crap starts and simply rectifying that is when you begin to fix things. :shh

I’ve got to say that I reckon this has been the most impressive and professional dreamtime prematch I’ve been too.
It looks like they have really made an effort to use more professional talent and celebrate in a much more thoughtful and creative professional manner.
I really enjoyed the whole experience
Interesting comment. "Professionalism" is a function of culture -- our culture. Westerners might describe themselves as professionals, but I wonder if such a concept even exists in indigenous cultures. I highly doubt it matters to them for their rituals to be performed "professionally". Sincerely? Yes. Spirited? Yes. But professionally? No.
What I meant to articulate was that I thought the whole entire prematch was in my opinion the best I’ve seen at a dreamtime game.
By the professionalism I mean they actually looked definitely a choreographed performance from start to finish.
In previous games I’ve often wondered if some involved actually knew what they were doing.
This game was the first time I’ve seen that it was a well arranged and choreographed with the lighting, music and all performances from start to finish.

Agree. I don’t think we are good enough at tackling. Attempts and missed tackles are the norm for us now. It’s a big problem we need to address.

Essendon has recorded a kicking efficiency of 73% tonight compared to Richmond's 62%. The Tigers have recorded a kicking efficiency of just 64% this season – the worst percentage of any side.
Richmond's intercept marking has been a key feature tonight, grabbing 24 of these mark types tonight compared to Essendon's 18. This is a season-best result for the Tigers, with Nick Vlastuin and Noah Balta combining for nine between them.
Essendon has gone coast-to-coast to score for the sixth time from their defensive 50 tonight. They have now outscored the Tigers by 17 points from defensive 50 launches.
Essendon has won 12 more contested possessions than the Tigers this [last] quarter - the first time tonight that they have led this stat late in a quarter. Essendon won 19 fewer contested possessions in the first three quarters.
A remarkable come-from-behind victory for the Bombers winning by one point - their fifth one-point victory against the Tigers and first since 2002. Essendon controlled possession, grabbing 154 marks for the match - the most marks taken by any team in a match this season.

I'm feeling oddly meh about the whole thing.
B Gale, T Livingstone, and N Balme have a big job at season's end because I think Dimma is so loyal to his boys that he hast lost the ability to see the wood from the trees with this group.
Is it just me or does the joint suddenly feel bereft of leadership? Peggy, Gale, Balme, Livingston, Hardwick, Cotchin has turned into just Hardwick recently it seems.
-
Hope Benny stays or that leadership is about to get a whole lot worse.
I dont see what options he has to be honest. On field must be able to play cumbo, biggy or Miller next to jack, permanently.
The forward line is a mess, and we will have to completely bottom out now IMV.

Report Card: Round 10
Max Laughton, Ben Cotton, Ben Waterworth, Catherine Healey and David Zita
Foxsports
22 May 2023
RICHMOND
How did they lose that one? The Tigers led by 18 points midway through the final term yet conceded four of the final five goals of the game to go down to Essendon by one point. The Bombers broke Richmond’s run of 13 consecutive wins over them, ending what was the equal longest active streak in the AFL. The defeat left the Tigers six points out of the top eight with a difficult game against Port Adelaide at the MCG next week.
In the votes
Shai Bolton was enormous and almost single-handedly dragged his team over the line. The star booted two goals from 28 disposals, 13 contested possessions, seven tackles and seven inside 50s. Nathan Broad and Noah Balta were strong in defence, Tim Taranto found a lot of the footy at the coalface and nine of Dustin Martin’s disposals ended up in a Richmond score, including two majors himself.
Room for improvement
Despite the narrow margin, coach Damien Hardwick post-game was livid with his side’s performance, coughing up an 18-point final quarter lead against the Bombers. Hardwick was particularly disappointed with the fact the Tigers allowed Essendon to take 142 uncontested marks and committed 36 front-half turnovers — a stat Hardwick dubbed “just horrendous by nature”. Rhyan Mansell had an opportunity to bury the Bombers late in the game, but shanked his set-shot and kicked the ball out of bounds on the full. Hardwick, though, refused to blame Mansell, instead pointing to his early-game goals and forward pressure. Hardwick revealed Jack Riewoldt (0.1, 11 disposals) was playing under duress. Samson Ryan managed only one goal, while Marlion Pickett also regularly played out of the goal square but could not reel in a mark inside 50. Dion Prestia couldn’t get into the game (11 disposals), while Dylan Grimes was exposed all night.

OVERREACTIONS, POSITIVES & NEGATIVES FOR ROUND 10
Andrew Slevison
SEN
22 May 2023
(https://images.ctfassets.net/u8w3l566ay8a/XJY56qJcUzAA8ZfxfZGXm/dee60ab55a43a51073c88025240384b2/AFL_Club_banners_-_2022-10-12T153956.739.png)
The Key Takeaway: Yet another loss by under a goal
Sounds like a broken record, doesn’t it?
The Tigers again found a way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
That’s now nine losses and three draws from their last 12 matches decided by a goal or less.
Somehow they managed to drop this one despite looking seemingly in control when three goals up early in the final term.
Dimma might need to do some extra work on game management at training this week.
The Positive: Shai Bolton is back
Shai Bolton has rediscovered his All-Australian form over the past few weeks.
Against the Bombers he had 28 touches, seven inside 50s, seven tackles, five clearances, kicked two goals, and had some massive moments.
He spent a bit more time in the middle and was one of the side’s top contributors in the disappointing defeat.
It’s good to see him back firing after some indifferent form earlier in the season.
The Negative: Nightmare final quarter
After Dustin Martin’s big set shot early in the final term, almost everything that could have gone wrong for the Tigers did go wrong.
Damien Hardwick described different parts of his team’s performance as “diabolical”, “frustrating” and “horrendous”, and the fans would probably agree.
The constant mistakes in the final term, which saw the Dons kick four of the last five goals of the game, was just not good enough and has all but ended their finals hopes.
What they need to tweak for next week
See the first point if it becomes a tight affair.
If the Tigers are in with a hope against Port Adelaide, they’re going to have to take their chances, especially late in the game.
Hopefully Hardwick gets them to work this week just in case they find themselves in another arm wrestle.
