Don’t mean to be a party pooper but this is the sort of game that we somehow lose.

I know how you're thinking. Seriously nothing but a triple figure victory is required if we are serious. Need to make a statement

We beat Sydney by 13, Sydney beat the Weagles by 171, so, 184 points should be the margin.

West Coast v Richmond Preview
Jack Makeham
SEN
13 July 2023
For a game against the worst team in the competition, this is looking like a mighty important clash for Richmond.
Last week’s triumph over Sydney saw the Tigers keep their finals hopes alive, however with how close the race is to make the eight this season, they can’t afford a single misstep.
This week looks to be an easy clash to build some momentum, as Richmond have several key matches in the final stretch of the season that could decide their fate.
West Coast were blown away once again in last round’s match against the Lions, yet it easily could have been worse.
Based off their Round 16 performance against St Kilda, the Eagles still have some fight in them, yet they still shouldn’t be an issue for the Tigers to handle.
Richmond should also be quite eager to make a statement against West Coast, given they struggled to beat them convincingly when they last met earlier in the year.
Expect the Tigers to secure some much-needed percentage in this one.
Tip: Richmond by 46 points.

Doesn't take into account the 40% Richmond umpire tax + 25% West Coast in Perth umpire tax on top of that.:shh
-
For some strange reason, this game worries me.
-
Tigers’ burning question: Can Richmond find a way to build their percentage?
The Tigers are only one win outside the top eight - but they are still a way off with their percentage of just 96.9. And that’s why this match against West Coast is crucial - not only for the win but a potential percentage boost too. Of the Eagles’ 14 straight losses, only one of those has been by less than 40 points. Seven of their past 10 losses have been by 60 points or more, leaving this is Richmond’s big opportunity to put finals back on the table. The last time the Tigers took on West Coast in Perth, they dished out a 109-point belting. And that’s the kind of result they’ll want again to kickstart this 2023 campaign.

Can the Tigers win big over the Eagles? West Coast vs Richmond Round 18 preview
Round 18 finishes with a whimper rather than a bang, can Richmond keep up its recent good form?
Alex Donnelly
Codebet
July 14, 2023
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING AT
* West Coast have lost 13 of their last 14 by 40+
* Six of the last seven between the two have gone over the total points line.
* West Coast has failed to cover the line in six of its last seven matches at Optus Stadium.
THE MATCH-UP
With a finals spot still a possibility, the Richmond Tigers will come into Sunday’s matchup against West Coast all guns blazing knowing that a big win will have them firmly back in the hunt for September action.
The Tigers will begin Round 18 a win and percentage outside the top eight after coming from 26 points down to defeat the Swans at the MCG.
Shai Bolton was awesome last week 31 disposals, nine clearances and four goal assists. Richmond has now won four of its last five matches with Bolton being one of the keys to Richmond’s resurgence.
West Coast have not lost a club record 14 straight and 23 of its last 24 overall. The 116-35 loss at the Gabba was an ugly watch for all concerned. What is worrying is that even with an eight point defeat a fortnight ago, West Coast‘s average losing margin in it’s last seven matches is 87 points.
West Coast played Richmond earlier in the year – round 8 to be exact losing by 46 points and the 58 points scored by the Eagles was their second highest since round 7.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Big Oscar Allen didn‘t get too many looks at the footy last week and it was through no fault of his own. Richmond’s defence has not been the best in 2023, conceding 82 points per game. Richmond’s defense was found out during periods of the game last week too and Oscar Allen is arguably a better mark in 2023 than Lance Franklin, he could help himself to a handful once again.
Dustin Martin has been winding back the clock in the last few weeks, his last three games have seen totals of 27, 35 and 29 disposals. He just needs to get his goal kicking boots in order as he has one goal and four behinds in those three games. Sunday feels a game that Martin can tear apart and get Tigers fans excited about.
THE PICK
Have to be with Richmond, winning four of its past five and the way in which they chased down the Swans last week was the sign of a team on the up.

THE CERTAINTIES FOR THE REST OF ROUND 18 - West Coast v Richmond
Andrew Slevison
SEN
15 July 2023
Prestia and Hopper to combine for 45+ disposals, 7+ clearances
Dion Prestia loves hitting the 20-disposal mark, reaching that threshold in 12 of 14 appearances in 2023.
He averages 21.8 disposals as well as 3.9 clearances this season.
Jacob Hopper has collected 20 touches or more in eight of 10 of his games in Tigers colours.
He also averages 4.7 clearances which ranks second at the club this year (only behind Tim Taranto’s 6.7).
Earlier this season against the Eagles, Prestia and Hopper combined for 55 disposals and 12 clearances (10 from Hopper), so we’re banking on them to amass at least 45 touches and seven clearances.
Duggan to have 25+ disposals, 3+ rebound 50s
Liam Duggan has been gathering plenty of the Sherrin in recent weeks.
In his last seven outings, he has racked up 30 or more touches on four occasions as well as a 27 in amongst that lot. He has also had 41 rebound 50s in that time for an average of 5.8.
Duggan is averaging 23.4 disposals in 2023 - a career-high - and is also averaging 4.9 rebound 50s.
Against the Tigers in Round 8 he picked up 27 touches and fired the ball out of defence on five occasions.
At Optus Stadium on Sunday, Duggan should get plenty of the footy so 25 or more disposals and three or more rebound 50s looks on the cards.

West Coast has been forced into a squad change ahead of Sunday's clash with Richmond after forward Jack Petruccelle sustained a calf injury.
The club confirmed on Saturday afternoon that Petruccelle will miss the Round 18 affair following the team's captain's run, with mid-season signing Ryan Maric brought into Adam Simpson's starting 22-man side.

Umps today:
Leigh Fisher (3)
Eleni Tee (34)
Martin Rodger (37)
Cameron Jones (41)
Fisher :facepalm.
-
Be switched on and bring the pressure from the start, Tiges! :gotigers
-
Centre clearance. Dan Rioli finds Bolts. Misses.
1 - 0
-
Top contested intercepting mark by Ivan 50 out. Wide and short and it's a throw in. Now a ball-up 20 out. Eagles clear.
Got to take our chances.
-
Good forward pressure again forces the turnover. Dan Rioli across to Taranto 45 out. Falls short again and rushed.
2 - 0
-
I blame Prestia for that goal :banghead
-
Dominated early, pathetic forward entries. They goal.
Seen this before
-
Another game another couple of dumb plays from balta
-
Wrong option coming out of defence Dion. Turnover. Then Balta gives away a silly free and goal.
2 - 6
-
Hit a bloody tsrget
-
Bolton out of the centre finds Pickett 55 out. Ordinary kick again inside 50 and turned over :scream.
We gets it back via Miller. Banks inside 50 to near the boundary line. Our forwards playing behind :banghead.
Another long bomb inside 50. Fortunately, the Eagles quick defensive kick is cut off by Kmac 40 out. Again we don't make the distance :banghead and it's wide anyway and rushed.
3 - 6
:banghead
-
Ball-up 40 out. Out to Ross who hits up Pickett on the lead 30 out. Finally! Goal! :gotigers
Rich 1.3-9
WCE 1.0-6
-
Ball-up 30 out. Bolton swoops and goals :gotigers.
Rich 2.3-15
WCE 1.0-6
-
Keep your bloody feet!
-
God this is painful to watch
-
Pickett with the free. It gets to Jack 40 out. Again we fail to make the distance! :huh3. Rushed.
7 - 16
-
Dusty now with the chance and he misses as well.
17 - 7
Our pathetic goalkicking :banghead.
-
We should be 6 goals up
-
Prestia to Baker 55 out across to Soldo 45 out directly in front. Another miss :scream.
18 - 7
-
Soldo always looks so unsure ball in hand
-
What a pathetic display of inside 50 kicking again and kicking for goal. This game should be over.
-
Just an all round pathetic quarter considering we have controlled the game
Our goal kicking is simply the exclamation mark
Should be 6 goals up
-
Taranto quick kick marked by Baker on the 50/boundary. Siren. Doesn't make the distance and wide anyway.
Quarter time
Richmond 2.6-18
West Coast 1.1-7
Amateur hour in front of the sticks :banghead.
12.16 last week (lucky it didn't cost us the game) and 2.6 so far today :banghead.
-
Lots of shots from a long way out. Trend of the game is good, can't see WC kicking a score of they keep 100 blokes parked in defence.
-

-
Gaff slips over on the wing and allows us in via Maurice. Dusty to Bolton 40 out.
Another miss! :banghead
19 - 7
-
Pickett likes getting caught in Perth?
-
Tigers should be embarrassed by that.
Pickett hang your head
Stop playing like millionaires :banghead :banghead
-
You idiots! :banghead
-
Pickett is stinking it up. Why is he trying to take on the world every time he gets the ball
-
Pickett is stinking it up. Why is he trying to take on the world every time he gets the ball
Yep
They're all playing like we are already in front by 100 points
-
We are playing hopeless at the moment.
Nothing short of rubbish.
This broad injury wouldn't have happened if Bolton kicked a simple goal.
-
I've had enough of this. Just can't watch.
-
Like watching an Auskick game :banghead.
-
This is going south.
-
Pickett is stinking it up. Why is he trying to take on the world every time he gets the ball
Yep
They're all playing like we are already in front by 100 points
Embarrassing
-
This has disaster written all over it .
-
Dan Rioli is the perfect example of what's wrong we how we are playing
Constantly trying to be too cute with his dinky little passes
-
We deserve to lose. Majority of games we’ve won this year we’ve played crap imo. Today is no different
-
Thank you Jack
-
Prestia inside 50 and Jack marks 25 out. Finally someone puts it through the big sticks. Goal! :gotigers
Rich 3.7-25
WCE 2.4-16

Out of the centre ... Dan Rioli hits up Jack 50 out. Passes it off to Dusty slightly closer. Poster :scream.
26 - 16
-
Don't be a hog Pickett. That was Jack's.
-
Stupid and ill-disciplined to give away an 80m reversal :banghead.
-
Brainless sloppy crap :banghead.
-
Are we deliberately trying to lose this? :scream
-
Lairising again :banghead
Bolton hanging onto the ball too long and misses.
27 - 17
-
Lol...oh dear
-
Hopper to Jack in the pocket. Jack kicks it OOTF! :P
-
Worst game of football I've ever seen.
-
Worst game of football I've ever seen.
Yep. I thought the earlier game b/w Norf and Hawthorn was bad. This tops it. Auskick standard :help.
-
Final score
5.37. 67
4.7 31
-
Can we actually do anything right? :banghead
-
Gee this is hard to watch.
Should be at least 5 goals up.
-
Final score
5.37. 67
4.7 31
At least we win with that scoreline.
Afraid of it being more like:
3.37-55
8.8-56
the way we are playing :help.
-
Gotta say we look so much better when Miller is in the ruck
Since Soldo has come back on we look crap
-
Teammate 20m in the clear and you lace out the opposition :banghead
-
Tell you what if Pickett & McIntosh play next week McQualter can get stuffed.
-
I just don’t get how we could go from a scoring powerhouse last year… to this crap we are dishing up on a consistent basis
-
Sexy kick by dusty to baker and thankfully he converts
-
Geez we needed that
-
I just don’t get how we could go from a scoring powerhouse last year… to this crap we are dishing up on a consistent basis
No Lynch.
Means Jack is our only proper tall being outmanned at 34yo.
I reckon that's a big factor.
-
Dusty to Baker. Another set shot directly in front. HOO-BLOODY-RAY! Goal! :gotigers
Rich 4.9-33
WCE 2.5-17
-
Why scrubber it Bolts?
-
Soldo pushed at the F50 throw-in. Goal on the siren :gotigers.
39 - 17
-
This is dreadful.
So often we seem to play down to the level of cruddy opposition, rather than just destroying them as we should.
I sure hope that the second half sees some improvement.
-
Half-time
Richmond 2.6 5.9-39
West Coast 1.1 2.5-17
Goals: Riewoldt, Pickett, Bolton, Baker, Soldo.
Lucky we're playing the bottom side otherwise we'd be 10 goals down against a decent side if we dished up a half of U10s slop like that :help.
-
Had a good run with the umps.
That was soft but technically there to Soldo, thank goodness he kicked it.
-
If not for Balta we'd be behind.

Dan Rioli is flying off HB.
Jack with the set shot from 45. Doesn't make the distance. Clever by Pickett to tap it back. Baker with the volley misses.

I was about to type that we'll give up a goal in the last minute. And right on cue ... :banghead

Wouldn't surprise if we cough this game up.

Couldn't even get our % over 100 :banghead

Never ever felt so shittty after a win

Final Score
Richmond 2.6 5.9 10.12 14.14-98
West Coast 1.1 2.5 6.8 8.12-60
Goals: Bolton 2, Martin 2, Pickett 2, Riewoldt, Baker, Soldo, Ross, Prestia, Miller, Taranto, McIntosh.
Only positive is the 4 points. Won the game with those last two goals in two minutes before half-time and the first 5 minutes of the 3rd qtr when we piled on another 4 goals quickly. That's the 6 goal margin. The rest was trash. Dish up that lazy slop in any of our remaining games and we'll get thumped.
-
I would have taken a 38 point win when I woke up this morning. Having said that - that’s a very ugly win .
West Coast are going to win a game sooner or later .
I liked Soldo’s game . Balta was fantastic too .
Our poor conversion rate kept them in the contest for much longer. Should have been up by 40 at half time.
-
Well the Soldo stat continues at least of him kicking a goal = win
-
If we make/miss finals I highly doubt it’s going to be off %. Take the win and move on. Do the same against the hawks and then our fate will be in our own hands.
-
Missing toughness in the context. Why Mansell wasn’t picked ahead of half the team is beyond understanding.
We are playing soft so the more we get some uncompromising hard types the better we will be as a playing group.
I would’ve brought in Biggie and made him play forward pinch hitting in the ruck giving Miller a rest.
I can’t stand Soldo. It’s time to move on from him.
-
Take the 4 points and move on
Horrible game on so many levels
Haven't said it in quite a while
But....
Terrific, just terrificTM
-
It highlights our biggest issue. Scoring power, which comes from ball movement which has been poor all year however improved slightly.
I think we have the 2 of the 3 lowest scores against Eagles all year. We got a gift in playing them twice and could only score 190 points against them in 2 games.
Need to bring in some forwards who are natural instead of playing wingers, defenders and mids there. I'd honestly trade/draft in 5 new forwards into best 22, with Lynch the only one who stays. The rest go to normal position or as depth.
-
How many times were Taranto, Shai, Dusty and Prestia held off the ball?
A bloody disgrace

It happens every stuffin' week. >:(

The worm provides a good pictorial summary. Played crap and butchered chances in the first 55 minutes :P. Then slammed on 6 goals in 10 minutes either side of half-time. Followed by back to playing crap again for the final 55 minutes :P.
Lucky we were playing the Eagles to get away with just 10 minutes of decent footy. That's not going to cut it in our remaining games.

I see it a bit differently.
Dominated early but kicked poorly in front of goal.
Continued to dominate and started kicking straight.
Took the pedal off the gas in the second half.

no comment until i see a replay oon individuals but it was hard to watch being there.
A lot of just okay types if im nice about it and fmd the lack of a tall marking presence fwd is and we just refuse to do much about it is unforgivable nonsense. Yes we play Miller fwd and Ryan this year but they are not a long term answer there. in fact miller ability in marking contests continues to be disappointing and i have little doubt Ryan if he continues to track well could be our next #1 ruck.
They had allen and Darling who were both soundly beaten but still played Maric and Williams in search of a tall fwd. there is no dividend now for them but there might be one down the track.
There is not a hope in hell of us winning a flag even if we make finals. Most of the year we have not looked like a premiership threat yet continue to fail to address serious deficiencies.
Its one thing in public to talk about flags but if they cannot see where we are at then we are in bigger strife than i thought.
Looked at the mrj thread and atm he is not AFL standard and should not be getting games.
Why is it so hard for us to instead of playing just pressure fwds we aim for goal kicking clean clever fwds who provide pressure as well.Other clubs manage it why can't we? We are literally playing glass half empties.
If people think Mansell or Pickett or Mrj atm are the way fwd or Graham fwd are the answer then they imo are kidding themselves.
Anyway overall very disappointing game.

AFL Report Card: Round 18
Jono Baruch, Catherine Healey, Ben Waterworth and Ben Cotton
Fox Sports
July 17th, 2023
RICHMOND
The Tigers just had to come to Perth and win to keep their finals hopes alive in season 2023. That’s exactly what they did. Sure it wasn’t the percentage-booster the club was chasing, but the four points lifts the side into 11th – just half a win outside the top eight. The Tigers, without co-captain Toby Nankervis, still dominated the ruck while a whopping 22 marks inside 50 helped the side to a 38-point away from home.
In the votes
Noah Balta was the best defender on the ground with 12 intercepts, four contested marks and 17 touches. Shai Bolton could have had a field day against West Coast, ending up with 23 touches, 11 score involvements and 2.4. Tim Taranto’s hot form rolled on with 27 disposals, eight tackles, eight clearances and a big goal in the third term. Ivan Soldo slotted into the No 1 ruck role with aplomb.
Room for improvement
Accuracy was a big issue for Richmond in Perth. The Tigers could’ve had the game on their terms with a blistering opening term but left the door ajar with 2.6 for the quarter – plus a few shots that failed to even score. Maurice Rioli didn’t get into the match with just six touches before being subbed out – and appearing to refuse to speak to his coaches when seated at the back of the bench.

BTW, was it just me or was the telecast/camerawork for this game bloody awful? I was constantly squinting at ants on the screen, found it hard to see which team was which and thought the coverage lacked close ups and medium close ups of the play.

AFL WINNERS AND LOSERS: THE RESULTS FROM ROUND 18 AND WHO IT SAYS MORE ABOUT
SEN
17 July 2023
West Coast (60) vs Richmond (98)
Kane Cornes: “Richmond did what they needed to do.
“But I’m not sure it says anything about either of them.
“What it does say is that West Coast supporters, you are legends.
“40,000 of them turned up on the year that they've had on a Sunday graveyard shift to watch their team lose again.
“I've said it this year. I tweeted out they're the best supporters in the league for what they've put up with and the way that they continue to stick it out.
“There was nothing really notable from the game. I watched a fair portion of it.
“Richmond did what they needed to do, their key players were pretty good. (Dustin) Martin had his moments, (Tim) Taranto was solid, (Shai) Bolton was good, (Daniel) Rioli was good.
“They didn't need the percentage because of the draw, but perhaps they'd be a little bit flat that they didn't get it done in more emphatic fashion than that.”

Geelong are off and gone and irrelevant .. 23% won’t be closed
Sydney won’t play finals
Leaves Carlton, who are 12% ahead and play WCE in Victoria this week.
I don’t see how % will play a part either

OVERREACTIONS, POSITIVES & NEGATIVES FOR ROUND 18

The Key Takeaway: A win’s a win…
Richmond went to Perth to plays West Coast and bank four points, and that’s exactly what they did.
As Andrew McQualter stated after the match, it might not have been the percentage booster they needed, but a win’s a win.
The Tigers sit just two points out of the top eight now and all they need to do is continue ticking off wins if they want to play finals.
Percentage would be handy but wins are more important.
The Negative: Inaccuracy might have cost a more comfortable win
The Tigers were inefficient in attack in the first half which might have cost them a bountiful win.
They returned 2.6 by quarter-time to hold an 11-point lead while kicking 5.9 to half-time to lead by 22 points.
Perhaps if the Tigers made the most of their early opportunities, the Eagles wouldn’t have had a sniff and hung around all day.
It’s a big ‘what if’, but you just get the feeling that if Richmond kicked straighter earlier, they might just have had an easier time of it.
Taking nothing away from West Coast, however, who stuck to their task admirably throughout and did miss chances of their own.

Well it won't now because we're still stuffed in that regard, with Norf the only real potential percentage booster still to come which is why we needed to at least flog West Coast which Karen said didn't matter.:shh

Really?Come on mate in a lot of examples the targets are vulnerable.
My wife currently supports an elderly lady who has cancer. Son is a pilot who lives in Italy and has no other family in oz. She was duped out of 70k before my wife started looking after her. That's just stuffed. What's even more screwed is they can possibly get a lot of that back through their own bank. People are just not educated enough on this especially the oldies.
Anyway Chuck here is the article he gave. He was very stupid and must not be the brightest. It happens a lot.
The 25-year-old told Hamish McLachlan in an exclusive interview in Saturday’s Herald Sun that it all started with a text message he received last September.
It said: “A suspicious transaction has been made using your accounts, please give us a call if this is not you.”
Weitering said he trusted it because it remarkably somehow appeared in an existing legitimate text message thread from his bank NAB about past suspicious transactions.
“I remember it being a Friday. So I wanted to get onto it pretty fast as I didn’t want my accounts to be drained over the weekend,” he said.
Then he received a couple of calls from a number that appeared as the fraud line from NAB on his phone.
“They spoke perfect English, the guy almost sounded as if he were an Englishman,” he said.
“They went through the suspicious transaction, and played on my emotions a little bit.
“It was perfect. The text, the caller ID, the blocking of the suspicious transaction.”
Weitering was told his accounts had been frozen but the money needed to be moved into what they called a “safeguarding account”.
Over the next week he sent amounts up to his daily transaction limit directly to the fraudsters – until all his accounts had been emptied.
“I sent them the money directly,” Weitering said. “That was the biggest mistake that I made, and that was built off the perfect role-playing at their end.
“We cleared all the accounts until they were empty, into what I thought was a safe account.”
Weitering said that once he had realised what had happened, he was devastated.
“It was a very significant amount of money that I’ve struggled to deal with over the last six months,” he said.
“It was that the money that I’d worked hard for, and saved, was all taken away. All gone.
“Everyone’s got to pay their bills – I’ve got a mortgage and would also like to start a family. It severely impacts those plans. I was able to process it quicker than family members and my partner, but it hasn’t been an easy process.”
The vice co-captain, who hadn’t told any of his teammates what happened because he wanted to get on with the game and with being a leader, said he was speaking out now to help others.
“It’s not just about me, it’s about families, it’s about couples, young couples, elderly people,” he said.
“It’s hard to imagine how sophisticated they are, at every step of the process.
“I felt I needed to (speak out about being a victim).
“I’m told around 70 per cent of people will not report being a victim of fraud and scams – because of embarrassment.”
Weitering bravely agreed to sit down with NAB CEO Ross McEwan for a video that will aim to educate and protect others.

Sorry no sympathy except maybe a little for vulnerable elderly. But this Carlton flog should have known better. In Italy I receive absolutely no scam calls or messages. Much better here at controlling that. Not bad for a 3rd world country as some have said. But whilst in Australia, every day I received emails , texts , calls etc.....have to be bloody stupid to be sucked by them.
Most legit calls from government, ATO etc call from private numbers. Emails are easy, check the email address of who sent it, it's bloody obvious. If it's a bank scam, I hang up and call the bank myself and ask ... It's not that hard.

Yeah it's tragic.
I'm currently managing a geriatric evaluation and management unit (think about when your parents get old, have chronic illnesses that can't be cured, start struggling mentally/physically and need to be rehabilitated, supported at home or moved into care).
Got a patient now who has been scammed out of tens of thousands and has no idea.
We've had to block wi-fi access for her phone etc.
As for Weitering honestly if you read the article properly it sounds like it was a very elaborate scam, not just your run of the mill email riddled with typos or a call from Nigeria etc. I've been scammed and contacted by my bank's fraud team previously and I was thankful for it. I empathise with him because I have a heart and I hope he got some of his money back. This was earlier in his career and most of these blokes would be lucky to see much more than 50% of their annual salaries after agent fees, PA fees and tax etc. They're not all millionaires.
