The worm provides a good pictorial summary. Played crap and butchered chances in the first 55 minutes  :P. Then slammed on 6 goals in 10 minutes either side of half-time. Followed by back to playing crap again for the final 55 minutes  :P.

Lucky we were playing the Eagles to get away with just 10 minutes of decent footy. That's not going to cut it in our remaining games.

I see it a bit differently.

Dominated early but kicked poorly in front of goal.
Continued to dominate and started kicking straight.
Took the pedal off the gas in the second half.

no comment until i see a replay oon individuals but it was hard to watch being there.

A lot of just okay types if im nice about it and fmd the lack of a tall marking presence fwd is and we just refuse to do much about it is unforgivable nonsense. Yes we play Miller fwd and Ryan this year but they are  not a long term answer there. in fact miller ability in marking contests continues to  be  disappointing and i have little doubt Ryan if he continues to track well could be our next #1 ruck.

They had allen and  Darling who were both soundly beaten but still played Maric and Williams in search of a tall fwd. there is no dividend now for them  but there might be one down the track.

There is not a hope in hell of us winning a flag even if we make finals. Most of the year we have not looked like a premiership threat yet continue to fail to address serious deficiencies.
Its one thing in public to talk about flags but if they cannot see where we are at then we are in bigger strife than i thought.

Looked at the mrj thread and atm he is not AFL standard and should not be getting games.

Why is it so hard for us to instead of playing just  pressure fwds we aim for goal kicking clean clever fwds who provide pressure as well.Other clubs manage it why can't we? We are literally playing glass half empties.

If people think Mansell or Pickett or Mrj atm are the way fwd or Graham fwd are the answer then they imo are kidding themselves.

Anyway overall very disappointing game.

AFL Report Card: Round 18

Jono Baruch, Catherine Healey, Ben Waterworth and Ben Cotton
Fox Sports
July 17th, 2023

RICHMOND

The Tigers just had to come to Perth and win to keep their finals hopes alive in season 2023. That’s exactly what they did. Sure it wasn’t the percentage-booster the club was chasing, but the four points lifts the side into 11th – just half a win outside the top eight. The Tigers, without co-captain Toby Nankervis, still dominated the ruck while a whopping 22 marks inside 50 helped the side to a 38-point away from home.

In the votes

Noah Balta was the best defender on the ground with 12 intercepts, four contested marks and 17 touches. Shai Bolton could have had a field day against West Coast, ending up with 23 touches, 11 score involvements and 2.4. Tim Taranto’s hot form rolled on with 27 disposals, eight tackles, eight clearances and a big goal in the third term. Ivan Soldo slotted into the No 1 ruck role with aplomb.

Room for improvement

Accuracy was a big issue for Richmond in Perth. The Tigers could’ve had the game on their terms with a blistering opening term but left the door ajar with 2.6 for the quarter – plus a few shots that failed to even score. Maurice Rioli didn’t get into the match with just six touches before being subbed out – and appearing to refuse to speak to his coaches when seated at the back of the bench.

Grade

BTW, was it just me or was the telecast/camerawork for this game bloody awful? I was constantly squinting at ants on the screen, found it hard to see which team was which and thought the coverage lacked close ups and medium close ups of the play.

AFL WINNERS AND LOSERS: THE RESULTS FROM ROUND 18 AND WHO IT SAYS MORE ABOUT
SEN
17 July 2023

West Coast (60) vs Richmond (98)

Kane Cornes: “Richmond did what they needed to do.

“But I’m not sure it says anything about either of them.

“What it does say is that West Coast supporters, you are legends.

“40,000 of them turned up on the year that they've had on a Sunday graveyard shift to watch their team lose again.

“I've said it this year. I tweeted out they're the best supporters in the league for what they've put up with and the way that they continue to stick it out.

“There was nothing really notable from the game. I watched a fair portion of it.

“Richmond did what they needed to do, their key players were pretty good. (Dustin) Martin had his moments, (Tim) Taranto was solid, (Shai) Bolton was good, (Daniel) Rioli was good.

“They didn't need the percentage because of the draw, but perhaps they'd be a little bit flat that they didn't get it done in more emphatic fashion than that.”

Except that three of the teams around us on the ladder have also had draws including the team we drew with you clueless ignorant click-baiting flog. :shh

Geelong are off and gone and irrelevant .. 23% won’t be closed
Sydney won’t play finals
Leaves Carlton, who are 12% ahead and play WCE in Victoria this week.

I don’t see how % will play a part either

OVERREACTIONS, POSITIVES & NEGATIVES FOR ROUND 18

Andrew Slevison
SEN
17 July 2023

The Key Takeaway: A win’s a win…

Richmond went to Perth to plays West Coast and bank four points, and that’s exactly what they did.

As Andrew McQualter stated after the match, it might not have been the percentage booster they needed, but a win’s a win.

The Tigers sit just two points out of the top eight now and all they need to do is continue ticking off wins if they want to play finals.

Percentage would be handy but wins are more important.

The Negative: Inaccuracy might have cost a more comfortable win

The Tigers were inefficient in attack in the first half which might have cost them a bountiful win.

They returned 2.6 by quarter-time to hold an 11-point lead while kicking 5.9 to half-time to lead by 22 points.

Perhaps if the Tigers made the most of their early opportunities, the Eagles wouldn’t have had a sniff and hung around all day.

It’s a big ‘what if’, but you just get the feeling that if Richmond kicked straighter earlier, they might just have had an easier time of it.

Taking nothing away from West Coast, however, who stuck to their task admirably throughout and did miss chances of their own.

Well it won't now because we're still stuffed in that regard, with Norf the only real potential percentage booster still to come which is why we needed to at least flog West Coast which Karen said didn't matter.:shh

Anything's possible - are there any Carlton players in serious debt? :shh
