Is it raining in Cranbourne, I am in Morwell and it's just p!ssed down for a little while.

Blacks 2.5 4.5 7.6 9.7-61
JUDGING BY THAT SCORE , it seems like polak did a number on richo .
one would have thought with richo kingsley and paddy up fwd they would have had more strike power
who did jay play 4??? or his his hammy still bothering him.
and any news on clev
-
It didn't sound as though Sarge played. Maybe they wanted to give him another week just to be sure although he trained fine on Wednesday.
Going by the scores it sounded as though it was a good competitive hitout. I wonder if the weather conditions make marking tough for the forwards on both sides although there may have only been 15 minute quarters. Not sure we'll have to wait for Steph to get home.
-
Steph just phoned with her bests for today:
Whites: Edwards, Tuck, Foley, Howat, Browny
Blacks: Paddy, Harts, Polo, Krak
-
Back to back bests for Edwards :clapping. Hope he now gets a go in the NAB Cup.
Also good to see Krak, Harts and Browny have good games as well as a number of our midfielders - Howat, Tuck, Foley and Polo.
A special thanks to Steph for giving us txt updates and putting up with my constant questions :cheers :clapping :bow :thumbsup.
A question for Steph - how did Lids and Tambo do today?
-
Thanx Steph for the updates - awaiting the pictures now ;)
-
I got alot of pictures, might take me a while to upload them. I is a very happy girl, posed for a photo with Rainsey, Polo and Harts :-*
From what I saw Lids did well. I didn't see him too much though :-\
Tambo, I think he got a goal or two, but he missed a few, good running throughout the ground.
All the boys did well with their running and such, good to see their fitness levels getting better :thumbsup
Browny and Newy were running hard, I was really impressed :clapping
I saw Campbell there, he was with whats his name from the Doggies...Murphy?
I heard an ump yell, "Play on, not 20"... wonder how that rule will go in the NAB Cup :-\
The boys aren't moving the ball fast enough though, alot of "Play on" called.
There was alot of communication on the field from the boys which was excellent. Early in the first quarter Kingsley yelled at an ump "He f**king got rid of it, f**k!"
I saw Schulz and Hall enjoying Subway before the game. I left to go get something and came back and Hall had stolen my seat :lol
It was a good day, enjoyed it, bummed out I didn't manage to get a tan :lol The weather was great, nice and warm, and it only started thundering and raining probably the last 5 minutes of the game, the rain really came down when the players were signing autographs and such.
Oh and they need to do something about the bug problem down at Casey Fields lol. Annoying little buggers wouldn't leave me alone :(
Oh and I checked my photos, looks like Pattison has injured his ankle, whether he has sprained it, or worse i don't know... I'll post the pic a.s.a.p
-
Well done, Steph :thumbsup
-
Great reporting Steph. What happened with Richo? Was it as X said and Polak kept him quiet? How did Kingsley play? What about Knobel in the ruck?
-
Yeah Richo was quiet, didn't get as many possessions as I thought he would, missed an easy goal, but it was windy :shh
Kingsley was good, alot of yelling :lol Be good to see how he plays when the season starts.
He's got a good set of muscles on him :o
Knobel did alright, we are gonna miss Simmo though :( I saw Simmo, but wasn't able to get a photo sorry :( Got one of Richo though ;)
-
Top reporting Steph. A couple of more questions....
Where did Browny play today?
And how did Hughes go?
-
good stuff steph ...
heaps of questions of course ...
but i heard there are some injuries from the game ...
any info ???
but what i really want to know is the 1st bounce centre match-ups ...

Wallace sees 'nice signs'
7:51:56 PM Fri 16 February, 2007

Richmond coach Terry Wallace was pleased with the intensity of the Tigers' final major hit-out - an intra-club match played in oppressive conditions on Friday at Casey Fields in Cranbourne - ahead of the club's first round NAB Cup fixture against Geelong on Sunday week.
With one minor concession, that his players' "poise and execution still needs some work" - an observation one would expect from a senior coach one week out from the pre-season comp - Wallace had no complaints about the workout conducted before an enthusiastic crowd of around 1000 Tigers' faithful.
Rather than pit 'probables' against 'possibles', the 'black' and 'white' squads coached by Jade Rawlings and David King were selected with key match-ups in mind.
"Probably this year we've done a lot more match simulation where the different lines have been with each other so what we wanted today was just an even hit-out where good players had to compete against good players," Wallace said.
"We had a few blokes tagged so it wasn't just a walk in the park and I was satisfied with the hit-out."
Wallace was reluctant to single out any of the club's first year players for praise, but said he was looking for improved performances from the Tigers' second and third year players.
"I thought Cameron Howat who's on our rookie list was probably the standout of those guys today. I thought he was really impressive with his efforts and his performance," Wallace said.
"Angus Graham, the ruckman, I thought he tired by the end of the game but he showed some nice signs and he's an improving player … but we need guys like (Dean) Polo, (Brett) Deledio and (Richard) Tambling to take the next step."
Of the new youngsters, Jack Riewoldt hauled in a couple of attention-grabbing pack marks, and Shane Edwards was busy and creative throughout in a midfield role.
Nathan Brown and Kayne Pettifer were damaging forwards for the white line-up while Deledio, playing as a loose man across half-back, got a heap of the ball and generally used it to good effect.
"He was allowed to do his own thing a little bit back there I thought, but certainly we see him playing a variety of roles and coming off half-back there's so much run coming off that region of the ground nowadays … that's the way the game's going," Wallace said of Deledio.
"He'll play midfield, he'll play across forward, he'll play across half-back - he just found himself at half-back today."
The club's prize recruit, former Fremantle utility Graham Polak spent most of the match in defence and did a solid job when matched-up on Matthew Richardson, but also bobbed up with a big grab and goal when swung forward in the third term for the whites.
"We've only seen him as a backman because that's where our needs are, but I think probably he's a better forward than back. What he showed today is that at any point and time in a given game if you place him at one end, he can go and do a job at the other end as well," Wallace said.
Adam Pattison (corked thigh) was the only player who appeared to pick up an injury during the contest, though the club was confident that he would be available for selection against the Cats, unlike the handful of players watching on from the stands including Carl Peterson, Jarrad Oakley-Nicholls, Ray Hall, Will Thursfield, Jay Schulz and Troy Simmonds.
"Anyone that wasn't out there today won’t play (in NAB Cup round one)," said Wallace.
"We've got a 'no risk' policy and if they haven’t been able to come up and get some ground time today, we'll go with the guys who are fit and healthy and well."

A slight difference between an ankle and a corked thigh for Patto ???. On BF they said Kingsley injured himself as well ???.
Sounds as though Plough wants to use Lids as our Hird who moves around to whereever we need him most during a game.
I'm glad we dropped the probables vs possibles idea. Just ended up in one sided games that weren't much use as a proper hit-out.
Taking out all the fill-ins nearly all of those who played today will play against Geelong if Terry isn't going to bring in anyone who didn't play today.
-
Goal kickers:
Whites: Browny 3, Hyde 2, Tuck, Knobel, Polak, Petts, Howat
Blacks: Paddy 2, Polo 2, Krak, Tambo, Richo, Graham, Collins
Top reporting Steph. A couple of more questions....
Where did Browny play today?
And how did Hughes go?
Browny played in the foward line for the Whites, Hughes was quiet... or everyone else around him was much more active :P

Ah ok I wasn't 100% sure what it was, I was a fair bit away from the action... I have a couple of pics of Pattison and the trainer dudes around him.
Kingsley seemed fine, maybe he has some soreness?
-
Thanks Steph :cheers
Great news about browny with 3 goals. Also good to see plenty of goals coming from our midfielders.
Goal kickers:
Whites: Browny 3, Hyde 2, Tuck, Knobel, Polak, Petts, Howat
Blacks: Paddy 2, Polo 2, Krak, Tambo, Richo, Graham, Collins

Casserley also missed.
Edwards had a good first 5 minutes, but was fairly quiet the rest of the game. There were at least 25 players better than him, IMO. Doesn't deserve a NAB game on that performance.
The new guys were pretty disappointing.Clingan had a good 2nd qtr, and Collins showed a bit in the 2nd and 3rd. Connors was poor, Riewoldt not good, not bad.Kingsley only fair.
2nd yr: Hughes fairly quiet;took a good mark, then butchered the kick for goal. McGuane quiet.
My rankings, in order:
1.Tuck
2.Newman!!!!! polished
3.Joel
4.Tiv
5.Tambling - creative
6.Deledio
7.Howat - energetic
8.Foley
9.Pat B.
10.Brown - 3 goals

13.Richo
14.Johnson
15.Moore - handy, quietly effective
16.Gas
17.Raines
18.Hartigan - led well from FP, then butchered the kicks;some good interceptions
19.Polo - not as busy as usual - subdued
20.Polak - servicable, clean, except for one bad pass
21.Collins
22.Meyer - good in last qtr;not enough intensity before that
23.Hyde - good in limited game time, and with little training over summer
24.Petts - not up to his usual standard
25.Knob - one good mark;good in last qtr, but didn't have a lot of competition overall
26.Clingan
27.Edwards
28.Patto - below par
29.Riewoldt - okay, nothing special displayed
30.Kingsley - didn't get a heap of opportunities

i know it is your own opinion ... thats fine, i respect that ...

how good did they play ??? i expect joel to be in defence, how was his disposal though ???
polak lower then richo, and from reports probably won the battle with richo ??? how did you see richo's game though ???
good report ... good to see people's opinions!

What's your view of Moore and White given you've got them in your top 15? I've been impressed with their improvement at training over the preseason especially Moore.
Also another question for either yourself or Steph. What was the skill level and decision making like overall today?

RICHMOND
Intraclub, Casey Fields, Cranbourne East
The Age
WHO MISSED: Ruckman Troy Simmonds watched from the sidelines after injuring his ankle several weeks ago and will miss the pre-season cup. Jay Schulz (hamstring) also sat out yesterday and is not expected to play in the NAB Cup. Will Thursfield (knee), Ray Hall, Jarrad Oakley-Nicholls and Carl Peterson, the club's fourth-round selection in last year's national draft, also missed and, said coach Terry Wallace, are not expected to be available next week. Adam Pattison missed the last few minutes with a corked thigh.
WHO'S BACK: Defender Chris Newman was enjoying a steady rise when he broke his leg in round 13 last year. But yesterday, he was among the most committed, hard-running players on the field. Nathan Brown was already "back" last year after breaking his leg the previous year, but leg soreness and a hamstring tear conspired to end his season in round 17. Yesterday, he was most definitely back and enjoying the hitout.
WHO'S NEW: The second-round selection in last year's national draft, Shane Edwards, is a lightly built midfielder who wasted no time stamping his mark on the match. Fellow draftee Jack Riewoldt also stood out with his ability to take a strong mark and use his height to effect. Geelong discard Kent Kingsley took some strong overhead marks. Former Fremantle player Graham Polak spent the first half playing in defence on Matthew Richardson and the second playing forward. Other draftees Daniel Connors and Andrew Collins enjoyed ground time, along with new rookies Jacob King and Tas Clingan.
EARLY FORMGUIDE: Three years into his five-year contract, the graph is at least pointing in the right direction for Terry Wallace. The club fell just short of a finals spot last year. With a wealth of pace, some skilful, attacking forwards to complement Matthew Richardson, a quality ruckman in Simmonds and an emerging group of second-tier players, the club is poised to take the next step.
WHAT THE COACH SAID: "It was an even hitout; good players had to play on good players. We had a few blokes tagged, so it wasn't just an easy walk on the park. The intensity was good, especially considering the (hot) conditions. We've still got to find targets a little bit more." TERRY WALLACE
WHAT THE PLAYERS SAID: "I've pulled up pretty well … I feel good." NATHAN BROWN

Howat showcases new breed

RICHMOND'S Cameron Howat continued his seemingly inexorable rise to AFL stardom with a stellar performance in yesterday's intraclub match at Casey Fields, Cranbourne East.
Howat, who played the last five games of the 2006 season, outshone his more experienced teammates during the four 20-minute quarters.
Tigers coach Terry Wallace was full of praise for the speedy 22-year-old.
"I thought Cam Howat was the best on the ground," Wallace said.

"I thought that Graham Polak showed that he was going to be a real good acquisition to the side," Wallace said.
"Dean Polo, who had a terrific last year, continued to impress and I thought he was a very, very good player today."
The return of Nathan Brown, whose 2006 season was marred by prolonged recovery from a leg injury sustained in 2005, is sure to please Richmond fans. He kicked three goals yesterday.
Chris Newman also removed any doubts about further injury woes with a strong contribution.
Adam Pattison will have to wait until later this week to find out whether he will line up in the Tigers' first NAB Cup game against Geelong on February 25.
Pattison was assisted from the ground yesterday after suffering a corked thigh.
Wallace said the corky was "right in the meat of the muscle" and that club medical staff would assess Pattison later this week before ruling on his availability for the pre-season game.

Terry Walllace praising Howat ::), more likely hiding from the fact the club has made a huge mistake not placing him on the senior list in the first place.
Terry obvisously had his eyes firmly closed for the last 6 round last year as Howat has just continued on from his outstanding form from last year.
It amazes me what the likes of McGaune and Jackson are still doing on the senior list :o

why mistake?
we get an extra player on the list, now that cogs is out howat comes straight in, good list managemnt if you ask me
-
Having Jackson and Mcgaune on our list is hardly good managment ::)
By memory, didnt see Jackson or McGaune getting much of the ball last year, Coburg included.
Howat has been crucified to get his senior spot back, that he should of had anyway.

What's your view of Moore and White given you've got them in your top 15? I've been impressed with their improvement at training over the preseason especially Moore.
Also another question for either yourself or Steph. What was the skill level and decision making like overall today?
White - he played quite well - considering it's only his 2nd yr on the list, he certainly plays like he knows what it's all about. He's going to be a regular 22 player this year.
Moore - when he had to do something today, he did it with efficiency and some poise. He's no star, but if he can stay fit then he'll be handy.
Moore and White both played with an assurance and confidence missing in many of the other 1st to 4th yr players.
Skill level/decision-making:
It was okay considering the heat and the time of year.It was helped by the fact that there wasn't a heap of pressure on the ball carrier at times, partly because they were playing their teammates, and no one wanted to injure anybody. They certainly looked to create the free player, and Krak, for example, did a couple of beautiful kicks to set a player free.
I noted it most times when a player's foot disposal was bloody awful, and the culprits were (probably incomplete) Richo (x2), Edwards, Connors, McGuane,Polak. On the other hand, a few specific examples of "first rate disposal" were done by Krak(x2), Howat (x2), Tiv, White,Clingan.
So, generally, not too bad. I rarely had to wince at appalling mistakes like I've done in the past at pre-season matches.
Now Mikee, all I can do is repeat what fish said. Where's your list of 22 in order? It's not an easy thing to do, but I wanted to give people a comparison of how the whole list played.I stand by that list.I watched the players , and the match, very closely. Now it's your turn to give me your list, ot at least a first hand report. If you're going to say to someone who's gone to the match, and taken time to write a detailed report, that they've got "no idea", then the least you can do is back that up with your own report, otherwise it's just a cheap shot.
If it's because I didn't have Howat at No.1, well my top 7 were like a block, and there wasn't much between them.Tuck and Newman got top marks because they played very well each qtr.Players ranked 3 to 7 got the same score from me, but I had to separate them to do the list.
Re Polo - I don't agree with Wallace that he was "very impressive".As I said, he's usually busier than that.
One key point - Newman is certainly ready to roll.
-
It's not an easy thing to do
Spot on, Gordon. Believe me, I tried, but just gave up lol
Thanks for your efforts.
Over to you, Mikee!
-
Also another question for either yourself or Steph. What was the skill level and decision making like overall today?
Some of the disposals were a little disappointing, there were a few times when they could have had a shot for goal, but kicked it off to a team mate and it was turned over.

Ok uploaded all the photos. I finished last night but was too buggered too post them, sorry

A bit more:
Re the standard of play - instead of having your best players playing together, they were spread between 2 sides. Then you've got the addition of 8 top-up players, who were clearly a class below the level of the RFC players (none of the key Coburg guys played, like Silvester, Neville, etc). These guys were used a lot due to the hot conditions. Therefore, this must have an effect on the skill level and standard of play.
By the way, in my opinion, Polak did NOT beat Richo. Richo largely had the better of him, but wasted some of his opportunities. Some of Richo's best passages of play were outside the 50m arc. They didn't play the whole match on each other, either. However, Polak still showed a bit, and I certainly wasn't unhappy with his game
It also should be noted that in intra-club matches you have to watch and assess 36/44 players, whereas normally in RFC matches you only have to consider 18/22. This makes the job harder. Secondly,Wallace might have an ulterior motive in mentioning a certain player in his match review (eg to boost his confidence), and is less likely to draw attention to some of the seasoned professionals. Also, Wallace might have given a player some specific instructions, and could then be delighted that he carried out those instructions to the letter.
And finally, Mikee - if you were there, give us your report. If you weren't there, then how on earth are you in a position to judge whether someone has made a good assessment of form?
-
Well done, Steph.
Luv the one with the black clouds hovering in the background and looks like there was a fire going on in one of them. Do you know where that was?
-
Yeah there was alot of really black smoke in the background, I think there was a fire, I don't know whereabouts it was though (Not familiar with the Cranbourne area) but a while later it got really cloudy and rained heavily (after the match :thumbsup) So hopefully it was put out or contained :)
-
Having Jackson and Mcgaune on our list is hardly good managment ::)
By memory, didnt see Jackson or McGaune getting much of the ball last year, Coburg included.
Howat has been crucified to get his senior spot back, that he should of had anyway.
Howat deserves to be on the senior list but their respective contractual situation probably had a lot to do with it. The club would have also known that Petersen came to the club with OP and would be unlikely to play much this year.
-
White - he played quite well - considering it's only his 2nd yr on the list, he certainly plays like he knows what it's all about. He's going to be a regular 22 player this year.
Moore - when he had to do something today, he did it with efficiency and some poise. He's no star, but if he can stay fit then he'll be handy.
Moore and White both played with an assurance and confidence missing in many of the other 1st to 4th yr players.
I would be wrapt with Moore if he can reproduce that week in week out for us. Main thing for him is to stay fit and out on the park.

Thanks for that GB. Good to hear the skill level from our boys overall was pretty reasonable for February. Good signs from Krak too.

Yeah still one area we need to work on. I notice that in the scratch matches too. At times some of our guys are too unselfish.

Is that Richo marking in the middle of that pack?

The smoke was from a fire on french island. As someone interested in weather it was a good day , watching the tiges play and seeing massive storm develop around us. :)

Yeah it is... that's my favourite photo I took from yesterday... except the ones I got with Rainsey, Harts and Polo ;D

Thanks for the photos and lowdown Steph :), and the effort you put into how the players went GB. :thumbsup
-
so Howat B.O.G ??? or Tuck ???
-
Well Tuck got alot of possessions, whether they were useful or not is another question :shh
Howat was running hard, working his butt off, put alot of pressure on the 'blacks' team. I'm not saying Tuck didn't work hard, but some of his disposals were questionable.
My opinoin would be Howat B.O.G, but that's just my thought, people might disagree
-
Thanks for the great pics and report Steph and thanks Gordo for your report also. Don't worry about Mikee. He's renowned for stirring the pot His silence is probably due to the fact that he got caught in the mozzie zapper that MT & WP recently installed here. BzzzzzzzBzzzzzzzz zzzzzitt Crackle crackle. Ahh the serenity :lol

who has put the most muscle/weight on this pre-season ???

Got the greyhounds and the stolen front gate out the back tiga :D.
My Uncle and Auntie use to run a hotel in Bonnie Doon. No Joke.

Glad someone picked up the reference MT. :lol
Bonnie Doon is a lovely place. Lots of childhood memories of Bonnie Doon and Lake Eildon. Apparently I was conceived in a houseboat off Bonnie Doon. If this boat's a rockin..... :lol

Man you are crazy MT! Why would you do that?? Yes I've swam in lake Eildon but not at that time of the year. Was it after a demoralising loss or a pink floyd induced purple haze? :lol

WP is right :rollin
It wasn't by choice though. For school camp we went bushwalking and canoeing for a week in mid-winter and as part of the training in case the canoe tipped over we had to get in the water. Hoping in was the worse part. Once you were in the water you were comfortably numb ;) :P lol.

Love the subtle floyd reference there MT. :lol
Have we hijacked this thread?? Oh well since my partners in crime are both Admins it should be okay! :rollin
