They're charging $9 to see Browny play VFL ressies!
Bullants host Brown's return

THE Northern Bullants will be heating the pies and hotdogs earlier than normal on Saturday in preparation for a cameo appearance from Richmond's Nathan Brown.
Although he is not used to kicking the dew off the ground, Brown will play about 40 minutes with the Coburg Tigers reserve side against the Bullants at Preston.
Northern Bullants general manager Garry O'Sullican said the club was expecting an earlier influx of fans to watch Brown's comeback game.
"We'll be ordering more pies, pasties and hotdogs and heating them earlier," O'Sullivan quipped. "And it's $9 to get in. We believe they will be plenty of people coming early to watch Browny in the game, which starts at 11.10am."
Brown, who broke his leg in two places in 2005, withdrew from the opening round game against Carlton after a "hot spot" was discovered just 2cm from the original break.
He had hoped to miss only up to the first four rounds.
Brown will be assessed today after getting through yesterday's training session with Richmond.
He will train again tomorrow, and if there are no last-minute hiccups, he'll play on Saturday.
Richmond football manager Paul Armstrong said last night there was every indication Brown would play in the Coburg's reserves.
"To a degree, you control what he does in the reserves," Armstrong said.
"Coburg seniors are going really well and for Browny it's only really game time and to get through a game, and it doesn't matter what level or the time he spends on the ground.
"And you can dictate that at reserve level at Coburg, without compromising their competitiveness in the game."
Armstrong said that if Brown got through the game he would have more game time the following week, but at what level had to be decided.
"We will just see how gets through," he said. "The plan is for him to play 40 or 50 minutes.
Richmond coach Terry Wallace will be at Preston to watch Brown.
Coburg's senior team will travel to Bendigo on Sunday to play the Bombers, while the Northern Bullants will clash with Geelong after the curtain raiser featuring Brown.

I went to see Richo play at Coburg when he was dropped - it was a great atmosphere - maybe 4 or 5 thousand turned up.
The opposition (Preston?) had ex Magpie Shane Watson standing in the space in front of Richo all day despite the fact that Coburg won by a huge margin. I think Richo got reported for wrestling - not sure. It was a great day. might go again to see Brownie.

They're charging $9 to see Browny play VFL ressies!
How much is it normally.
Taking advantage! It should all be given to Coburg!! :thumbsup
-
Bullants are playing Geelong in the main game afterwards ... So $9 is the normal entry fee and free for kids ....
What I laugh at is in the EFL you can pay $6 to get into a 3 rd or 4 th division game but some sides in Div 1 or 2 have no fences so you get in for nothing ???

Get there early enough and you may be able to sneak in for free if the gates not manned ;D :whistle

Thanks Moi. As said in the other thread, Rawlings said on Ch 2 that Browny got a couple of goals and got through with no pain.
-
Wore no.82. :D
Only played first half, a lot of that on the bench.
-
Terry was on 3AW and said he was pretty pleased with his effort.
Last year when he went to the seconds, he was afraid to put his body on the line. Not so today, contested well :thumbsup
-
SEN interviewing Terry:
not heart in mouth as he knew Brown had done a lot of training so no risk
in the #82 jumper
not worried about any contact to his leg which was great, plenty of chasing and tacking. Not like when he originally came back and was afraid of contact.
kicked a goal of the week from the boundary
played 40 minutes. 60-70 minutes next week. then full game.
monitored on a daily basis for wellness
not going to play senior footy until 100% sure he won't break down

Great news about Browny. 40 mins is 40 mins. Even if it's VFL ressies it'll curb the frustration and boost his belief that he'll get back. He's still got the magic too by the sound of that goal along the boundary :bow.
Good to hear too Peterson snag 3 goals in his first real game.

Brown takes key comeback step
By Robert Grant
Bendigo Advertiser
02 June 2007 - 2:42PM
Richmond will resist the temptation to play star forward Nathan Brown too early, even though they are desperate for a breakthrough AFL win.
Brown on Saturday took a key step in his comeback to the Tigers senior side after problems following his broken leg two years ago.
He played the first half of Coburg's match against the Northern Bullants in the VFL reserves grade.
Tigers coach Terry Wallace said he was pleased the way Brown had contested the ball rather than playing tentatively as he had earlier this year.
"The thing that I was most pleased with him today in his half that he played was he was looking for contact, he wasn't worried about players tackling him," Wallace told Southern Cross radio.
"He was putting himself in positions to win the ball in that way and was quite prepared to lay tackles himself, so he was playing footy in essence, which was pleasing.
"He ended up kicking a couple of goals in about 40 minutes of play."
However, Wallace said Brown remained at least a week away from consideration for a top-grade recall.
"He's missed a hell of a lot of footy and we want to be controlled.
"What we don't want to be doing is putting him into a situation where you happen to overcook him at senior level because you want to win a game and all of a sudden you pull up sore from that.
"We want him to get through a couple of weeks where he's guaranteed that the next time he comes back to senior level football he's not going to break down," Wallace said.

Heading in the right direction: Nathan Brown back in action with Coburg Tigers yesterday. Picture: Peter Glenane
Brown back in the mix
03 June 2007 Sunday Herald Sun
Jon Ralph
RICHMOND forward Nathan Brown yesterday sailed through his latest comeback game, but has been warned by coach Terry Wallace he might still be three weeks away from AFL football.
Brown played about 50 minutes for the Coburg reserves at Preston City Oval and, starting deep in the forward line, kicked 2.1 from nine possessions and three marks.
He was rarely at top pace and looked a cut above the competition, but crucially pulled up pain-free in his leg after playing in four 12-minute spurts in the first half.
While Wallace was happy Brown had thrown himself into the game with gusto, he said his star might play up to 60 minutes next week before tackling a full VFL game.
That would put him on schedule for a Round 12 return against Melbourne in the second week of the split round.
Brown's demeanour after the game said as much as his performance.
After wearing the No. 82 jumper, he was happy to crack jokes about playing so early in the morning and his pleasure at not being king-hit by a trophy-hunting opponent.
"It's been about 10 months," he said of his return from complications with a leg first broken in 2005.
"I think Round 17 was my last proper game of football.
"It was good to get out there.
"I kicked a couple of goals and should have kicked another one.
"I was a bit nervous about how I would go and how my leg would pull up but it pulled up pretty well.
"It feels good. (Sometimes) I can tell when I start running there is an awful pain in there and it says to me I need to rest for a couple of weeks. But it felt good today and I have been full-on training for two weeks."
Wallace said: "The main thing was that you wanted to see that he was going to get himself in the contest. He was putting himself in situations where he was going to get tackled, and he was prepared to tackle."
Brown said: "I just want to have a good second half of the year. There is a lot of football left, and we need a good springboard to next year."

Bendigo 5.2 9.5-59
Goals: Hughes 2, Meyer 2, Krak 2
Cloke has 4 for Bendigo. Sylvester and Moore have been on him.

Hyde's got a fair bit of it but his opponent Camporeale is running amok. Collins will need to tag him instead of having Hyde playing wide of him.
JON's passing has set up 3 goals but Bradley has been good for Bendigo.
Meyer presenting well up forward.
Krak kicked a couple of goals that quarter an di some nice things according to the commentary.
Jack hasn't done much.
Cleve was quiet. Didn't hear him named once that quarter.
Gus hardly heard of around the ground.
Backline being swamped by lack of midfield pressure. McGuane, Moore and Connors back there.
-
How many frees are Bendigo getting :banghead. Free at CHF then kick and another free 15m out :scream.
Coburg getting more of it this quarter but turnovers when going inside 50 is Richmond like.
Great work Fort Caruso and Meyer snaps and goals

We seem to be creating plenty of opportunities, just missing them all while the bombers are slotting all of theirs.
-
Coburg just making too many mistakes. You're right jezza. We are falling down every time we go inside 50. 13 inside 50s for 5 behinds.
3/4 Time
Coburg 3.0 6.3 6.8-44
Bendigo 5.2 9.5 13.6-84
Goals: Meyer 2, Hughes 2, Krak 2

Coburg 8.8-56
Bendigo 14.6-90
Goals: Meyer 2, Hughes 2, Krak 2, Moore, Frarelli (sp?)
Sewell now on Camporeale and quieting him down a bit.
-
Getting pumped now. Coburg chipping it around from the kick-in and going indirect. Commentators saying we lack system and Jack has been serviceable but has struggled given the poor delivery.
Jack goal.
Coburg 9.8-62
Bendigo 17.9-111
Goals: Meyer 2, Hughes 2, Krak 2, Jack, Moore, Farrelly
-
Hyde goal
Coburg 10.10-70
Bendigo 17.9-111
Goals: Meyer 2, Hughes 2, Krak 2, Moore, Riewoldt, Hyde, Farrelly
-
Coburg doing a Richmond with players not making the distance from 30m out, hitting opposition players lace out and running in circles with the ball. Pride of Erin stuff.
Just before full time
Coburg 3.0 6.3 6.8 10.12-72
Bendigo 5.2 9.5 13.6 19.10-124
Goals: Meyer 2, Hughes 2, Krak 2, Moore, Riewoldt, Hyde, Farrelly
-
That's the final score. WP said it was a terrible game. McGuane best of the RFC players.
-
Hard to see anyone earning a promotion this week from Coburg after that. Very ordinary performance and error riddled.
-
Bugger.
I was hoping Meyer would play well enough to replace Petts and Hughes would play well enough to replace Kent/Schulz. :banghead
-
Why not try McGuane up forward in place of Petts.
He has played up forward before and it wouldnt be hard to do better than petts.
-

Why not try McGuane up forward in place of Petts.
He has played up forward before and it wouldnt be hard to do better than petts.
Luke started at CHB and never stopeed running. Gave alot of run from the back half. Was moved to forward line in the 2nd half with Hughes moving to CHB. I thought Cleve's game improved when he went back. Was very pleasing to see him chasing and tackling (more of it I say).
Moore also got moved up forward. Thought he had a really bad game. No impact.
Krak - played in the mid field and up forward.
Dan Connors needs to be a bit more intense in the defensive side of his game.
Gus Graham tried hard was the Burgers only recognised ruckman as Ronaldson was out.
JON - started at CHB and then had to relieve in the ruck. Actualy thought he was OK there at least he made a contest and Bendigo didn't dominate like they should have.
MEyer - no comment - disappointing
Jack Reiwoldt - tried hard but not his best game
Chris Hyde - Ok
Terrible game - just terrible.
I see Camporeale got in the best - was he out there :rollin

Ramanauskas joins party as Coburg crashes
04 June 2007 Herald-Sun
Geoff Poulter
With Richmond emergencies Chris Hyde (beaten by Cloke) and Jack Riewoldt (two goals) having quiet afternoons, Bendigo again showed it was an improving outfit in its 19.10 (124) to 10.12 (72) triumph, coming on the back of a strong win at Frankston in the previous round.
The Bombers led by only 20 points at halftime but cleared out in the second half, kicking 4.1 to 0.5 in the third term and six goals to four in the last.
For Coburg coach Andrew Collins the game was important to show his team just where they stood.
"They were way too good for us," Collins said.
"They had (Scott) Camporeale, (Ricky) Dyson, who were running machines. Jason Cloke (four goals) was very good. He played against Chris Hyde and was too good.
"(Sam) Lonergan also was really good, (Tom) Hislop, Chris Heffernan and Adam Ramanauskas were also very good.
"We had our captain Travis Ronaldson (injured arm) out and that made a huge difference to our team."
Collins did not blame the away ground and travel as a major handicap.
"It was their (Bendigo's) first home game as well," he said.
"For us it was more of a reality check, it showed where our individuals were at.
"We had 10 AFL boys, they had 14 plus Cloke and (Ben) Jolley."
Collins expects to have Richmond forward Nathan Brown, who had limited time in his comeback game in Coburg reserves on Saturday after complications following a broken leg, to be in his firsts for the next round.
Brown is likely to line up at Coburg against Sandringham on Monday.
