Title: go Blues
Post by: bluey_21 on June 03, 2007, 05:25:53 PM
saw on the channel 7 broadcast that they are a couple goals up. Hopefully they get up and put us a step closer to the number 1 draft  :thumbsup

BTW who many games do they need to win to miss out on the priority pick

I think it tipped the doggies, but for the sake and future of the RFC... go blues  :chuck lol

Carlton won, let's hope they get over the line and win another 2 games then  :pray  :lol

A win and a draw is good enough too. 4 and a half wins and they lose their priority pick.

If we don't win this year but win say 7 next year do we still get a pre-draft priority pick because we are under the limit of total matches won over 2 years

No we don't. The ruling is 8 games over two years provided you win no more than 4 games in each of the two seasons. If Carlton get 4 wins they will receive the priority pick ahead of us 4.5 and it is ours. It pains me to say it but go Blues for at least 1.5 more wins.

Carlton got up, playing a fantastic brand of footy. Attacking direct hard at it footy. Pity we dont do the same. Matthew Kreuzer welcome to Punt Road.

Would prefer Cotchin or Grimes though as there is a dearth of talented ruckman available between picks 15 to 30. Could pick up Bellchambers and McEvoy with our most likely priority pick and 2nd rounder.

Result being a class inside midfielder and two excellent and importantly LEGIT ruckman
Title: Re: go Blues
Post by: bluey_21 on June 09, 2007, 10:25:40 PM
Brief rundown of some players

Kreuzer - This years Leunberger. Super ruck prospect with excellent athleticism and skills for a big man.

Cotchin - Similar player to Murphy as a smart inside midfielder. Maybe not as a good a reader of the player but even better foot skills

Grimes - Great inside midfielder prospect. Not your modern day athlete but is a great size and runs all day and has a brilliant ability to find the ball in close. Cool head under pressure, great leadership skills and great skills.

Masten - Hard running and talented but sometimes laconic midfielder from WA. Played the champs last year and was impressive but being a WA boy probably wouldn't risk him.

Meyer - tall athletic and modern day HBF. Great skills, brilliant pace and leap, reads the play well and can take games apart.

Bellchambers - Forward cum ruckman with a good rucking ability. Has a big body and is a crash and bash type of player. Also has very strong hands making him appealing up forward.

McEvoy - Excellent ruck prospect IMO. Good height and build, extremely athletic and mobile and terrific skills for a big man. Also very versatile and can swing forward back and through the mid. Would luv him at Punt Rd

I also want to see Cale Morton. But Kreuzer could play key forward. Cotchin is very good also but we have to wait and see the championships to get a better idea. I for one am hoping we can do a deal to get another top 10 pick. Would Port go for Schulz and Meyer?

Dawson Simpson 205 97 Murray
Dean Putt 202 88 Calder
Will Sullivan 202 95 Western

When did he say that?  ???

He said his decision came down to the Hawthorn board not being able to give him total support due to the Don Scott faction not wanting him.

He said Richmond's list was a train wreck from day 1.

Ricky Pettard off to hospital with broken ribs and a collapsed lung. MICA ambulance being used for what Doc Larkins said could be a "life threatening" situation. Lung cavity filled with oxygen from punctured lung...

Despite Pagan's sacking and a new coach coming in, it's hard to see the Blues winning another game especially now they're without Fev and Walker. As mentioned on FC, Fev will miss the next 3 weeks with a thigh injury (might be "made" to rest out the season) and Andrew Walker out with a shoulder injury.

Looks like we'll have to do with pick 2 as our first pick.

Ratten I reckon is too proud to have his coaching career start at 0 and 6. Reckon they will be up for the Bombers game and at least a chance against Melbourne.

Think that the PP is 50-50 at this stage.

The Blues were more competitive today but they still lost. Hard to see them winning before round 22. If Sheeds wanted to do Richmond a real favour and stick it up Carlton (and Walls) at the same he could tank it in round 20 lol.

R19: Port Adelaide (AMII)

Title: The Blues are officially tanking
Post by: one-eyed on July 29, 2007, 03:34:53 AM
The Blues are officially tanking ....

Quote
While Swann denied actually tanking to win a draft pick, he conceded better-performed players were being overlooked for kids and said the majority of Carlton supporters wanted the side to lose every remaining game this year.

"People ask you about whether you tank or not. If you can't make the eight you have to plan for next year," Swann said on 3AW yesterday.

"By planning for next year that doesn't always necessarily mean you have got your best team out there.

"There are some guys playing at the Northern Bullants who probably, right this minute, are better players than some of the kids that are playing, but from our point of view we need to get as many games as we can into our younger players and stuff them because that is where our future lies.

The Saints will finish 8th so the Bombers celebrations are for nothing anyway. The destiny of both those sides are in our hands in the last two rounds ;).

If the AFL scraps priority picks it potentially could hurt us and not Carlton next year. Carlton will deliberately have to tank against Melbourne. No Bruce, Holland, Davey, Robertson, etc.

Title: Kouta says tank (Herald-Sun)
Post by: one-eyed on August 28, 2007, 03:03:08 AM
Twiddledee and Twiddledum in AFL House say tanking doesn't exist while we've got everyone associated with Carlton come out today and say they want to lose:

Quote
"In all fairness, I would rather them lose because of the draft picks," Koutoufides said last night.

Former president John Elliott said winning was simply not an option. "We've got to lose."

Premiership coach Robert Walls said the No.1 draft picks should be the priority. "I don't want Carlton to win because, as a supporter, the benefits of losing are so great."

Title: Re: go Blues
Post by: mightytiges on August 28, 2007, 03:53:19 AM
Is Kouta still classed as on the Blues playing list?

It'd be hilarious if the AFL took away the Blues' draft picks again on a technicality of one of their player encouraging his side to lose.

It's a total farce. Even Garry Lyon last night was claiming the underdog tag for Melbourne this week with only 23 players to choose from.

what i wanna see melb do in the last quarter with 5 minutes to go if they are winning that is, send an extra player on the feild. just say theer was a communication breakdown on the bench and have 19 players out there and make sure an official notices.

that would forfeit the game and give teh points to carlton lol

that would forfeit the game and give teh points to carlton lol

i dare the demons to be brave and do this
LOL

Or they should just rush a point to Carlton and then walk off.

The tanking is in full swing - No Brad Fisher and Heath Scotland is in doubt to play for Carlton. No Neitz nor Sylvia for Melbourne.

the afl must bring a lottery system in , 2 groups, top 8 a nd bottom 8

bottom eight will get their draft order picked out of a hat, followed by the top 8

all done random, has nothing to do with ladder position and no priority picks

or why not give 9th 1st pick
10th 2nd pick
11th 3rd pick etc

that would stop tanking completely

Yes but then you're continually punishing the stragglers.

I think just get rid of priority picks.

The big issue is that the Blues get pick one and three if they tank successfully. No-one gives a shi'te if Melbourne tank.

Or have the priority picks start at pick 9, so the bottom 8 teams get from pick 1-8, then priorities, then the top 8 get to pick.

Who knows WTF the first picks in the draft r gunna turn out like.

Mate how much pressure is on this Vodka dude if he gets picked first.

Hope we rape StKilda and then WGAF .

Just pized Scum will get 2 picks in top 3

No more Spoons for RFC

Blues' Matthew Lappin retiring from AFL
The Age
August 29, 2007 - 3:34PM

Carlton veteran Matthew Lappin has announced his retirement from the AFL effective immediately.

Captain Lance Whitnall is in doubt to play Melbourne on Sunday because of his knee problem while half-back Heath Scotland is also in doubt because of a corked thigh.

Ratten dismissed speculation the Blues would be better off losing to Melbourne to secure the No.l pick in the national draft.

Ratten said he was preparing his team to win and said his players took no notice of the Tanking speculation.

I'd go:

9th 1st pick
16th 2nd
15th 3rd

That would stop it and make it fair to the bottom sides.

Blues, Demons 'will play to win'
2:21 PM Fri 31 August, 2007
AAP

AFL CHIEF executive Andrew Demetriou remains convinced that Melbourne and Carlton will do all they can to win Sunday's twilight MCG clash.

There is widespread speculation about whether Carlton in particular will "tank" to maximise their draft selections.

"I'm sure they'll be genuinely wanting to win, there's too much at stake for players who are playing for their careers, as are coaches," Demetriou told Southern Cross broadcasting.

"I'm not going to deny that there are people out there who think it's a good thing that their team will lose but I can assure you of this, if you are relying on a priority draft pick to save your football club you are delusional.

"There's much more to winning games than a priority pick."

You would've thought the Blues at least show some subtly  :whistle. They might as well painted 18 witches hats navy blue and scattered them around the 'G. Melbourne could break every record in the book today.

Be great to turn the tables but if Morton turns out better than Cotchin then they'll give us crap.

I don't really care about them getting first pick as we should get a good kid (Cotchin) at 2 anyway. But to get picks 1 and 3 even though they didn't finish last is a joke. It's just such a massive advantage.

not really they needs picks 1 & 3 cause they are poo
Carlton is the worst team in the AFL

its easy to tank

just let the other team flog you in the first quarter
then play your own game of football knowing you will always have control over the contest to lose

stuffing cheating tankers
