Cousins has been taken from the back seat of a car and has been arrested, hand-cuffed and taken into police custody. He was shirtless and had a big grin as he emerged from the vehicle. The car has been seized and searched. The search went for 45 minutes.
Another unnamed Eagle has also been arrested.

Troubled West Coast Eagles star Ben Cousins has been arrested after police searched his car in Perth today, witnesses said.
Nine Network reporter Grant Taylor told Southern Cross radio he saw Cousins being handcuffed and put in a police car in Aberdeen Street at East Perth.
He said a second West Coast player was also being interviewed.
Cousins was shirtless and grinning as he was led away, Taylor said. ABC Radio said the footballer was being interviewed at East Perth police station.
The AFL club said earlier they knew nothing of the incident.
"I'm not sure if he's even in the country, he's on leave," the spokesman said.
Taylor said police conducted a thorough search of Cousins and his vehicle on the roadside. He said a young woman was also in the car.
"Just a short while ago police have taken Ben Cousins away, handcuffed, shirtless, into custody, taken him away for questioning after stopping him and a young woman in his car on Aberdeen St," Taylor told Southern Cross at 1530 AEST.
"We also understand that police are also questioning another man, there's a rumour that that other man could be a current member of the West Coast Eagles."
Cousins has never tested positive to illicit drugs but flew to the United States for rehabilitation earlier this year and apologised for his conduct.
He returned to play for the club on a number of conditions, believed to include a zero tolerance clause to testing positive to banned substances, staying away from underworld figures and not falling foul of the law.
Cousins, a former skipper of the club, was with Eagles legend Chris Mainwaring hours before he died earlier this month.
Further comment is being sought from WA Police and the West Coast Eagles.
The Age has received reports that Daniel Chick was arrested with Cousins.
Police said they were waiting to be briefed about the reports.
"I can't confirm anything at this point, we're still waiting for a briefing note on anything relating to Ben Cousins, and we haven't received anything at this point," a West Australian Police spokesman told The Age.

Yeah they could. The AFL said they had "unlimited" powers last time. The Eagles had the chance to sack him after last time.
Gang crime squad is doing the Police investigations.

Just saw the TV news report. What's with that stupid tat on his stomach?!?
They are saying that will be it for him at West Coast. What a waste.

yes what a waste
his a real champion & has all the good any footballer would want
he had the football would at his feet
X you have won the money your spot on

If he does get the boot from the Eagles do you think anyone will take a chance on him? Huge upside but from what I've seen and heard you just can't beat drugs like ICE. They have a habbit of dragging everyone they touch down.
How much responsibility do the leaders at West Coast need to take about this situation.
-
3aw saying from their sources Cousins will be:
1. Charged with a traffic offence.
2. Charged with carrying prescribed drugs without a prescription.
3. Charged with failure to take a blood test
The last one is the serious one if this is true.
-
From SEN:
West Coast's official statement is they won't be making any statement for the time being.
The charges have been confirmed.

Cousins' footy career is finished. If the Eagles don't sack him, the AFL will. West Coast has only got itself to blame. They ignored the problem for so long and now Cousins is finished and Judd has gone home.

Cousins charged with drug possession
9:11 PM Tue 16 October, 2007
with AAP
WEST Coast star Ben Cousins has been charged with possessing a prohibited drug, Western Australian police said on Tuesday night.
Cousins, 29, has also been charged with one count of failing to comply with a requirement to provide blood.
In a statement, police said they stopped Cousins' vehicle on Newcastle St, Perth around 11.30am (WST) after he came to their attention "due to the manner of his driving."
They allegedly found a quantity of prohibited drugs after searching the four-wheel drive vehicle.
The Eagles' midfielder was taken for questioning to the Traffic Enforcement Group headquarters in East Perth.
Police will allege Cousins failed to provide a sample of his blood for analysis.
West Coast said in a statement it would not comment until further briefed by police.
Cousins will appear in the Perth Magistrate's Court on Thursday.

Bye bye Ben.
A footballing tragedy and a club tragedy.
They have had pound for pound the most talented list in memory
and it is all unravelling awfully for them.
Juddy gone
Ben will be gone
Expect the self destruction to continue. West Coast complacency on this will set them back for years once this chapter of the Eagles 2007 odyssey is over. Kerr is no angel on the grog either. I think W Coast should have him under house arrest as if he gets in trouble well the poo will hit the fan harder than it is hitting the fan now.
P.S As a sidenote has a reigning premier ever before been in the news for all the wrong reasons as the Eagles have this year.

Ben Cousins charged with drug possession
October 16, 2007 - 4:00PM
Troubled AFL star Ben Cousins' footballing future is in grave doubt after he was charged with possessing a prohibited drug - six months after leaving rehab.
The 29-year-old West Coast Eagles midfielder was also charged with one count of failing to comply with a requirement to undergo a driver assessment.
He will appear in court on Thursday.
In the statement, police said they stopped Cousins' vehicle on Newcastle St, Perth around 11.30am (WST) after he came to their attention "due to the manner of his driving".
They allegedly found a quantity of prohibited drugs after searching the four-wheel drive vehicle. It was not specified what drug it was.

Just a sheer waste through self-destruction.
P.S As a sidenote has a reigning premier ever before been in the news for all the wrong reasons as the Eagles have this year.
Norm Smith getting sacked by Melbourne which followed Barassi crossing to Carlton would be the biggest one. The Dees haven't won a flag since.
Jezza getting the stuff from Carlton after their '79 flag and heading to the Saints. It didn't affect the Blues long-term as they won back-to-back flags on the other side of our 1980 flag.
-
Wonder if the two girls in the car were police plants.
Seems no-one's talking about them, so you have to wonder who they are!
-
adhious benjamin your gone.
would i take him in the PSD. u bet i would. if its out of him whitnall, watts etc etc.
im taking benny all the way

I wonder where the Eagles get their bad reputatution from :whistle.

can u imagine if you or i were involved in one of those things mentioned above.
we would thrown into jail or at least asked to answer questions in a court room.
but they are above the law over there in the west.
they make me sick.
cousins isnt addicted in my book he just loves partying and uses that as an excuse.
"yeah im addicted please i need help"
give me a break

Cousins to Richmond via the PSD :shh
Gawd, could you imagine the terms and conditions that would come with signing Ben!
No-one would take that risk if it meant losing draft picks, points or being heavily fined.
-
Seriously if u ppl really think Cousins and West Coast are the only ones ur all deluded.
This needs to all come out in the open and be treated with the harshest treatment possible, as the sport (not just AFL) will spiral into a drug induced farce.
Young kids just don't need to be faced with this as soon as they step into certain environments.
Can tell u for fact the NRL bury their heads in the sand big time.
Met a dude just recently who's young nephew has stepped up to first grade in the NRl at a club I wont mention (they have had their name bandied about a fair bit tho).
This dude was telling me how this kid had not even drank before he stepped foot there, but now is hanging around with these guys (That think they are and treated like superstars) and get away with murder from what I have heard.
Some of the stories u hear, u just lose all respect / admiration 4 what some of these ppl have achieved
These guys aren't run of the mill players either these are representing at the highest level.
With the whole Marion jones thing and recent comments from talbot proclaiming let them all cheat.
Gotta be merciless and banish these people for life and shun them when they are caught.
No sympathy, they know what they are doing and are only 'sorry' in the end cause they were caught.
By all means help them with their problem, but they have blown something they should have respected a bit more than some do.
-
okay but i tell u who has a lot to answer to. demtriou and his clown sidekicks.
he is the biggest rot on our game.
like ive said many a time when he needs to step in he doesnt and when he doesnt need to be he is always showing his hand.
he is a disgrace that bloke. i just wonder if it was didak or someone else from a melbourne club.
I really wonder if their team would be docked draft picks or points.
i think so.
demetriou u piece of poo do something or let me guess when r gonna get ur usual line.
"people who think drugs are a issue are delusional"
ur dilusional u effen idiot

i know it wont cause if they lose their pick dees will get upgraded.
but seriously why shouldnt they be punished. i know its ben is his own person but do you think a melbourne club would get spared the embarrassment this guy has caused.
the club has a big part to play in all this.
cousins, kerr, chick, fletcher. dont tell me its all 100% the players fault. surely they have to take the blame of how these players think they are above the law.
but your right wont happen demetriou will sweep it under the carpet as usual

We won't get their pick 3 though, it'll just make our pick 18 now pick 17.

The girl(s) were released but yeah it's suss that all these cops just happen to be in the area and pulled over Cousins "due to the manner he was driving" and then separately pick up Chick. Now they've picked up another bloke (non-footballer) who was a passenger in Chick's car who has been charged with possession of cocaine and cannabis. They are also searching Chick's house.

What a year for them to lose their picks if they do. They have 4 picks in the top 22. If they did lose their picks it would end up that they just traded Judd for only Kennedy in a straight swap. I bet now they are wishing they sacked Cousins after last time.

The Drug Coast's Eagles glamour boy in trouble once more. Now if anyone thought that the rubbish trip to the USA was going to fix him up well they are as stupid as this drug cheating idiot is.
I totally agree with what was said before if you think its just in the Weagles you must be walking about with blinkers on. It has to be in every team and the Weagles are just the ones with the bad asses who do think that they are above the law.
Each game a player is sent out to play a game with some sort of enhancement, weather that be an injection for a bad ankle or some other thing. So its ingrained into them that drugs help you get over sticky points. But I will not once say that I'm here to say poor little Ben. Kick the prick out of football once and for all.
No wonder Judd came back home, he had to get away from that culture thay have got going over there.

Cousins officially sacked. Unanimous board decision by the Eagles. SEN just have their prez's media conference where he said Cousins has an illness and needs continuing treatment but there comes a time when a person has to take responsibility for their actions.

once, twice, gone ...

Up now to the AFL to deregister him.

Up now to the AFL to deregister him.
And if they don't expect Carlton to pick him up in the pre season draft.
Expect Carlton to then redraft Lawrence Angwin in what will be known as "The Fall Guy" deal.
-
When this is all done and dusted I hope we never hear of his name again. He has bought shame to his family because he's a selfish prick. Him and Garry Abblet Sr. should be taking notes from one another.
You may think this a little hard but I have to take drugs to get out of bed each moring and to keep me going through out the day. Then when I need something stronger I'm looked upon like a real druggy. And I need them while this idiot wants them and here is some of the population saying poor Ben. Up him he's a waste of space. I have no respect for him and will never again.
I read somewhere that it was because of Mainwearing (sorry spelt wrong) but that just a cop out for a weak minded druggy.
-
Cousins was charged with possessing diazepam, a brand of valium for which he could not present a prescription, and refusing to undergo a police drugs assessment.
Daniel Kerr was fined $400 in 2004 for forging a script for the same drug.

My daughter takes drugs (medicines, not the other lol) morning noon and night to keep her going.
A funny story while she was on the plane coming back from Scotland.
She had a cold and kept on coughing - couldn't help it.
This woman kept on going tsk tsk and turning around and giving her a dirty look every time she coughed.
Then my daughter brought out her drug bag which is huge and she showed the woman. More tsk tsks lol
She went to the toilet and on the way back and as she passed the woman, she started patting the inside of her arm as if she had given herself a shot in the toilet.
The expression on this woman's face :o
Apparently the plane was in fits of laughter.
That's my girl hahahaha :rollin
Back to Ben - he is the biggest loser of all time.
But if any of you have ever had an addiction, you say you'll always give it up and you do or you don't. But you do it in your own time and sometimes your successful. It's something you have to psyche yourself up for and you do it when your psyche is up to it.
In some kind of defence of Ben, to expect him to go to the US and drop a habit like that in 5 seconds and have everyone watching his every move was bound to be disastrous.
He wasn't given the time to psyche himself up for doing something like that, he was just told to do it.
-
Made matters worse for himself when he wouldn't co-operate with the cops.

They left the same place in different cars going different ways, that's why they were picked up separately.

l know several current players & ex players from several clubs who are users
drugs are rife in the AFL
even the 1980 premiership players were accused of taking drugs by there own premiership teammate
most of these drugs are offered to players at parties held by the high profile socialites
some are offered to players by celebrities singers/actors
they then turn to using them when they can to enhance there fun because everyone else is doing it (but me since l quit ;D) & to take the peer preasure off them from being in the spotlight it takes the edge off cause you know everyone is watching you & you think its ok because higher profile people have said to you its ok
Ben Cousins needs help & people close to him will help him through it
l bet them non perscription drugs come from another person close to him who was taking them by perscription say no more about that :-\
there are different rules for different fools so many high profile people take drugs at parties even with police in the same room & nothing is done
This is just another little drug issue
l can go to court for the same thing he been charged with & get maybe 2 years loss of licence & $1000 fine & wont even make the local paper
But because Ben is a high profile AFL champion he has lost everything from his woman, his mate through death, his job & cannot work in his trade again for being a deregistered footballer, his licence, & his name will be tarnished forever in history through media which is going overboard l think for a simple relapse in rehabilitation
Daniel Chick has hardly made the papers he also was charged so why not give him some media
what about others involved why dont the media name them as well l just dont understand why
l like Ben Cousins as a champion footballer & hope he makes it back his not 30 yet but l dont like his attitude & that attitude is brought on by drugs
-
Daniel Chick has hardly made the papers he also was charged so why not give him some media
I only heard/read that his house was searched and that he was questioned but released without being charged.
Did I miss something?
-
Cousins court case has been adjourned to January 21 so he "does not disrupt his drug rehabilitation program".
He's pleaded not guilty to the charges. His lawyer told the court they will defend the charges vigorously because they are without basis.
http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2007/10/18/2062888.htm
Cousins has also been deregistered by the AFL.

Those first 4 words is one way to get the reader's attention Moi :lol :wallywink. When I went OS I was glad I had left the Sudafed behind at home when I saw the guns on the German police checking passports lol.
It seems the threat of losing draft picks will still hang over the Eagles until mid-November but the way Andy D was talking it'll be hard for the AFL to impose such a penalty after Andy said the Eagles had done well dealing with the problem ???.
-
drugs are rife in the AFL
Well we know publicly of another club we can't mention. At Richmond it's probably the supporters who take valium lol.
l like Ben Cousins as a champion footballer & hope he makes it back his not 30 yet but l dont like his attitude & that attitude is brought on by drugs
Cousins had that same stupid smirk on his face the whole time he was lead to and from court today.

yeh noticed that, it seems he thinks its all a joke.
-
well his only been done for perscription drugs so he might just get a slap on the bum
the good thing about that is you may see Ben Cousins apply for registration for the draft if he took his case to court he could win cause football is his line of employment l cannot see a judge stop a man from working unless he has had a positive drug test under the 3 strike policy which the AFL would have to produce the report
refusing the blood test maybe a 12 month good behavior bond 1k fine
Richmond would go after Cousins as would the other 14 clubs
-
Good luck Ben :thumbsup
*sniggers* :lol

The Age is saying Cousins could end up claiming wrongful dismissal if he wins the court case ??? ...
Mr Brennan (Cousins' lawyer) predicted his client would win what will be one of the highest-profile cases in Perth's history.
Cousins is expected to argue that he was legally entitled to have the medication as part of his treatment for drug dependency.
"They stop him in his car and ask him for a prescription and he hasn't got it on him," Mr Brennan said.
"He wasn't wearing his Brownlow medal around his neck either but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. One can have that drug quite legally, it's just a question of whether it is prescribed."
Cousins' defence is likely to centre on whether Diazepam is a prohibited substance. Mr Brennan won a similar case for Perth socialite Rose Porteous last year. The second charge, refusing to submit to a police drug test, will also be challenged. The law is just weeks old and has never been tested in court.
If Cousins is found not guilty, The Age believes the way would be opened for a possible wrongful dismissal charge by the former Eagles champion against the club. Mr Brennan said yesterday that he had received no instructions about such a claim.
Cousins' lawyer says West Coast should have waited for the charges to be tested in court before sacking their star player.
"He is terminated by his club, ostracised by the AFL on a possession (charge) that is almost certainly misconceived, on a brand new charge under a brand new regulation that has never been tested. They have just shot him, the club and the AFL."

To all those in the media, and on this forum, who have hung, drawn and quartered Ben Cousins (hello to Caro & Retygas), you should be ashamed of yourselves and take the main lesson from Media 101- things aren't always as they appear to be.

What chance the AFL re-registering him?
I'd snap him up in the PSD in a heartbeat.
Its not often a top line midfielder comes along. I'd rather have young footballers being influenced by a tough winner, drug problems and all, than some of the spineless characters who pass as leaders at our footy club.
I think it is largely underestimated how many footy players like a bit of chemical stimulation anyway.

Ben Cousins drug charged to be dropped says lawyer
Herald Sun
October 19, 2007 01:00pm
THE drug charge that saw Ben Cousins sacked from the West Coast Eagles will be dropped, his lawyer claims. The Eagles, however, are standing by their decision.
"I have just been informed by the organised crime squad that the charge of possession of the narcotic will be dropped on Monday morning at nine o'clock," Cousins' lawyer Shane Brennan told Southern Cross Broadcasting today.
Police are yet to confirm the claim, however.
"Their (police) problem stems from the fact that the alleged narcotic isn't a prohibited substance, as I understand it."
The 29-year-old midfielder was charged with possessing a prohibited drug after police pulled him over for driving erratically on Tuesday.
He was also charged with failing to comply with a requirement to undergo a driver assessment.
Despite the bombshell news, West Coast chairman-elect Mark Barnaba told ABC Radio dropping the charge against Cousins would not change the club's decision.
Cousins has never tested positive for illicit drugs.
But in March this year, he underwent several weeks of drug rehabilitation in the US, returning to Perth in April after agreeing to a zero tolerance clause to testing positive to banned substances.
He also agreed not to fall foul of the law.
The charges this week led to his sacking by the West Coast Eagles on Wednesday.
He appeared in the Perth Magistrate's Court yesterday where the matter was adjourned for three months so that he could return to rehabilitation in the US.
Today, Mr Brennan says Cousins was delighted to learn the charges would be dropped.
"He's as happy as Larry, so would you or I be," Mr Brennan told ABC Radio.
"In essence, the charge was completely misconceived from the start, as I indicated to the media yesterday," he told Southern Cross Broadcasting.
Mr Brennan said Cousins still planned to defend the failure to take the blood test charge.
The lawyer would not comment on how this may affect Cousins'

Cousins is still a drug addict. He's not going to get better remaining in the spotlight playing football. Whatever happens he needs to get out of WA.
I think it is largely underestimated how many footy players like a bit of chemical stimulation anyway.
Didn't Dale Lewis claim the majority of AFL players were using illicit drugs and got outcasted for saying it?

They're exactly as they seem - he is a stuffwit
The Eagles didn't get rid of him for nothing
Had he submitted to a drug test, he might have been able to prove the police and everyone wrong.
Didn't, did he?

Yes MT Dale Lewis of the Swans did stand up & say drugs were everywhere in the AFL & got pushed aside
Well now the cops have dropped the charges the judge will give Cousins the benefit of doubt on the other charge & welcome Ben Cousins to Richmond :lol via PSD wishful thinking but it gives me a slight buzz

WA police said yesterday a quantity of drugs and drugs residue was found in Cousins' car when it was searched on Wednesday.
"The following drugs were seized from the vehicle: oxycontin, which is a prohibited drug, diazepam, Viagra . . . and a $20 note which preliminary indications and analysis show traces of MDMA, which is ecstasy and cocaine," WA assistant commissioner for special crimes Wayne Gregson said.

Nixon thinks game can be part of Cousins' cure
Karen Lyon | October 21, 2007
THE manager of sacked West Coast star Ben Cousins believes the fallen Eagle should be offered the chance to return to football one day as a "carrot" in his recovery process.
"I think one thing in Ben's life that he does and does bloody well and probably better than most other people is play football," Ricky Nixon said yesterday.
"Maybe that has to be the carrot at the end of the day that we dangle in front but it can't be tomorrow that he starts playing again.
"I think we have to be careful how we go about it. There is some argument that he may have come back and played too early and it may be should have been left to next year. But the end of the day, the situation is what it is but I'd like to think the carrot could still be there."

Cashed up Ben nabbed in 'trap'
Sunday Herald Sun | Peter Rolfe, Liam Houlihan and Nicole Cox | October 21, 2007 12:00am
ALMOST $3000 cash was discovered in Ben Cousins' car when it was intercepted by organised crime detectives.
The Sunday Herald Sun understands Cousins and former West Coast Eagle Daniel Chick were caught up in an expansive undercover sting when he was arrested on Tuesday.
It is believed to have included round-the-clock surveillance and mobile phone taps.

Why? Didn't seem to stop him from getting into trouble in the past.

Perth court formally drops Cousins charges
abc.net.au
Police have formally dropped charges against former West Coast Eagles star Ben Cousins of possessing the prohibited drug diazepam.
Last Tuesday, Cousins was arrested in Northbridge after police allegedly spotted him driving erratically.
He was charged the same day with possessing the drug and failing to undergo a driver assessment.
Today, police prosecutors applied to the court for the drug possession charge to be dropped.
Cousins was awarded $50 in court costs.
Thirty-three-year-old Nathan Greaves, who was in another car that was stopped at the same time as Cousins, also appeared in court on drug charges.
Greaves' bail was extended and he is due in court again on December 3.

Four cop cars on Ben Cousins' trail, says lawyer
Herald-Sun | Carly Crawford | October 25, 2007 12:00am
TROUBLED footy star Ben Cousins was followed by four police cars in the lead-up to his dramatic arrest on a failed drug charge, it has been claimed.
Two crews from Western Australia's gang squad police had him under surveillance, according to lawyer Peter Momber, representing the third man in the case.
Mr Momber wants police to hand over details of the operation ahead of client Nathan Greaves's next hearing in December.
Mr Greaves, 33, had been a passenger in West Coast Eagles player Daniel Chick's car when the vehicle was intercepted last Tuesday.
Police stopped Ben Cousins, 29, in his car at the same time, seizing prescription drugs including Viagra and the sedative diazepam.
Mr Greaves was charged with possessing cocaine, cannabis and a smoking implement but Chick was questioned and released.
He left Australia to visit his son in the US this week.
Cousins was charged with possessing a prohibited drug when he told detectives he did not have a prescription for the sedative, and was later sacked by the West Coast club. The charge was dropped when police realised diazepam was banned only in liquid form.
Mr Momber hopes to have police running sheets, police diaries, phone intercept warrants and witness statements within the next six weeks.
Mr Momber would not say whether he believed that conversations involving Mr Greaves, Cousins and Chick had been picked up on telephone intercepts.
Police have so far declined to comment on growing evidence that Cousins had been arrested as part of a wider sting.
Meanwhile, doubts have emerged about whether Cousins will proceed with plans to visit the US for drug rehabilitation. There is speculation he may continue his treatment from home.
"I do know that he is in such turmoil at the moment that where he goes, when he goes and if he goes will depend on clarity and what his medical advisers say," said a source familiar with his problems.
