Let's hope the new crop of youngsters we have will fulfill the dream for Richo.

I've been thinking this for a while now and nearly raised it a couple of times. Then I realised it's Richo and the umpires won't even give him a free kick so why would they give him a Brownlow?

Reckon he's a good chance for back to back JDM's if his form continues though.  :thumbsup

Typical X.

Changes his mind all the time.

Wasn't so long ago he was calling for Terry's head. But before that he was all for Terry. And now he is again.

Nothing he says actually matters because you know at some stage he has said the exact opposite.

Agree two votes last night. Would have been 3 had we won.
According to my opinion he "should have 12 Votes"

3 V Carlton in Rd 1
3 V Freo    in Rd 4
3 v Dogs    in Rd 5
1 V Hawks  in Rd 6
2 V Saints  in Rd 7

Right now a bona fide chance to take Charlie home in September.

This may be a stupid point, but it may come down to how many games we win as a club. If we can rack up another 7 or 8 wins then thats 7 or 8 - 3,2, and 1 votes. Richo is a big chance. It would be a great reward for a great player and the difference between him being acknowledged in the AFL as a champion or not.

Common Richo, deliver another RFC Brownlow.  :clapping

Stop it TM, its becoming a habit.  :thumbsup

Simmonds ran himself into the ground last night and as my son pointed out to me 5 minutes before the end of the game, he was spent, he couldn't raise himself off the ground.  He got his 'mojo' back last night and Browny wasn't far behind.

Even Kouta was on the Richo Brownlow bandwagon yesterday morning. As Ramps said it all depends on how many game we can win and how competitive we are in our losses. Richo winning it would also make a change from midfielders winning it every year although playing on the wing I guess he is classed as one now lol.
Title: Punters back Richo for Brownlow Medal (The Age)

Punters back Richo for Brownlow Medal
Jake Niall | May 6, 2008 | The Age

AFTER six rounds, Matthew Richardson was assessed as a 100-1 chance to win the Brownlow. One game later, TAB Sportsbet has him equal-third favourite for the medal at $9.

The plunge on the beloved Richo has been astonishing, and invites the question: Can this freakish 33-year-old Tiger, freed from the constraints of his forward 50-metre cage, become the game's oldest — and probably most popular — Brownlow medallist in history?

His former teammate, Bulldogs assistant coach Wayne Campbell, reckons Richo is a "massive chance" if he continues in his revamped role. "He polls very well," said Campbell.

Richardson has had four outstanding games in 2008 and should be polling votes in each of those games. Sportsbet believes he has "eight or nine votes" at this stage; in a more optimistic scenario, he could have 11 or 12.

Many within the game, including his coach Terry Wallace, reckon he has never been more productive or influential.

He leads the competition in marks and in his specialty, the contested mark. He is winning more of the ball than ever before, while still exceeding his career goal averages (3.43 this year).

If key forwards don't win what has become a "midfielder's medal", then some judges note that Richardson's prospects have been enhanced by the inspired decision to play him in what might henceforth be called "the Richo role".

And it is a role, not a position. Since round four, when Wallace unleashed his massive aerobic capacity on a hapless Fremantle, starting him as a 195-centimetre, 104-kilogram wingman, Richardson has not failed to gather 19 or more possessions or kick at least three goals in any game. Richardson is understood to have covered about 17 kilometres — Brent Harvey-like territory — in his 27-disposal, four-goal display against Hawthorn, when he ran back to obstruct Buddy Franklin and then sprinted forward to provide the Tigers with their only viable tall target.

He is playing more like a basketball centre, sprinting from one rim to the other, than a conventional midfielder. Just as Alexander the Great stationed himself where the battle was most intense, Richo goes to where he's needed most. He is gathering almost 20% of his ball in the defensive 50-metre arc, more touches in the middle and still kicking goals.

"We just play him where we feel that he is having a bigger impact on the game," Wallace explained, after his 22 touches and five goals failed to get the Tigers over St Kilda. "Even in the third quarter we moved him up onto the wing to get our momentum back going back our way. That's how much impact he is having on it." This high-possession and higher-impact role, presumably, will make him more appealing to the umpires.

"He's a definite chance," said Richardson's old coach, Danny Frawley. "He's going to be in the umpire's eye a whole lot more."

Frawley said the game's quickened pace of the past 18 months — wherein rapid ball movement (and constant running) has countered flooding — has aided Richo. Finally, the times suit him, and his package of size, athleticism and stamina.

It is remarkable that the game has moved in a more accommodating direction for a 33-year-old in his 16th season. As Campbell said, Richardson has emerged with a hyper-athletic style, despite receiving the kind of battering that Wayne Carey and Dermott Brereton endured in their shorter careers.

He's played only one finals series in 15 frustrating years, and should the planets continue to align, a Brownlow would be an irresistible bookend to the Richo story.

I wacked him at 300/1 on the advice of this board.

Wish I had hit him for a place as well, and wacked him alittle harder as well

ALot like Benny Gale in that he has become a better forward since becoming a wingman ( or Ruckman in Gale's case)

Maybe that's a good sign as whenever a Tiger has been favourite with the media he's polled zero votes  :P. I think Richo is in the top 5 of the coaches votes.

Be smart, backing Richo is like buying currency, be safe and you'll still get great odds.
He will not poll enough votes to win - too many losses so far.
BUT
Wait until Round 18 or 19 and depending on our win loss record and his form - he is a good thing for top 5 (which you can get odds) or if you are keen - top 3.

The Brownlow will go to Cooney this year - unless he breaks a leg or bulldogs go completely off the rails - just think Aker in 01.

Matthew Richardson tipped for Brownlow
Sam Edmund | May 26, 2008

MATTHEW Richardson will win the Brownlow Medal this year, according to a Herald Sun poll. The big Richmond forward-turned-wingman was nominated by 22 per cent of respondents as the man who will take Charlie home.

Western Bulldogs ball magnet Adam Cooney was second with 20 per cent, while Geelong's Gary Ablett was tipped by 16 per cent to win footy's greatest individual prize.

But it's Richo who has caught the eye. After nine rounds, the 33-year-old is averaging 13.6 kicks, 5.3 handballs and a league-high 11.2 marks a game. He has booted 27 goals.

Richardson is clearly in the best form of his career and the money is flowing for the Tasmanian at TAB outlets. After starting the season at $401 in Brownlow betting, he has been backed into $8.

TAB Sportsbet's Gary Davies said the flood of money for Richardson was relentless.

"He was still $101 after Round 6 but after Round 6 people just kept on backing him," Davies said.

"Just between Round 6 and before Round 7 started, he was in to $26."

More than 3600 Herald Sun readers voted in the Brownlow poll.

With Sam Mitchell now out of contention, Richo is now 3rd favourite for the Brownlow at $7.50.

TAB Sportsbet

ABLETT Gary (GEEL)                 5.50  2.12
COONEY Adam (WBDS)            6.50  2.37
RICHARDSON Matthew (RICH)  7.50  2.62
BLACK Simon (BL)                    8.00  2.75
FRANKLIN Lance (HAW)           10.00  3.25
HARVEY Brent (ROOS)             14.00  4.25
BARTEL Jimmy (GEEL)             16.00  4.75
BATEMAN Chance (HAW)         18.00  5.25
BROWN Jonathan (BL)             23.00  6.50

FOLEY Nathan (RICH)             61.00    16.00
BROWN Nathan (RICH)         501.00  126.00
DELEDIO Brett (RICH)           501.00  126.00
JOHNSON Kane (RICH)          501.00  126.00
SIMMONDS Troy (RICH)         501.00  126.00

However Wallace said today Richardson was getting tired of talk that he was a leading contender for the Brownlow medal.

After starting the season at $401 in Brownlow betting, Richardson has been backed into $8 after nine rounds.

"I think he's a little bit sick of all the talk to be honest," Wallace said.

"We're in a situation where we've only won three games of footy.

"You talk about trying to get the three votes, two votes in those games, we won't have as much opportunity as others to poll in those games.

"Maybe the run home will be a little kinder to us."

Bailey backs Richo for Brownlow

MELBOURNE coach Dean Bailey believes Richmond superstar Matthew Richardson can win this year's Brownlow Medal.

Richardson, 33, is having one of his best ever seasons. He was superb again in the Tigers' 22-point win over Melbourne at Telstra Dome on Sunday night, drifting from the wing into the forward line to kick five goals, take 18 marks (four contested) and collect 21 disposals.

Asked if Richardson was playing well enough to win the Brownlow, Bailey simply replied "yes".

"He's unpredictable, but he's very exciting," Bailey said.

"He took one mark and ran from half-back and just almost launched himself lateral to the ground and took a mark, running inside 50. He's got some special qualities – there's no doubt about that.

"He kicked five in a game and how he played and all over the ground, he's well on the way [to winning the Brownlow]."

Reckon Richo has around 12 votes so far. Us winning gives the big fella 2-3 votes each time so if we can knock off sides around us on the ladder in the next few weeks he'll be a big show for the Brownlow  :pray.

Just such a warrior, we won't know anything until he is forced to have a rest - lets hope not  :pray

He's his own worst enemy CUB, everything he does he goes at full tilt.
I think he's been inspired by Buddy this year, an up and comer who's a bit like Richo when he was young.
Just keep crossing my fingers he gets through the year  :pray

He's a very good chance for the 3 votes in all of our wins
Blues - 18 disposals 11 marks 5 goals 2 behinds
Dockers - 25 disposals 15 marks 4 goals 3 behinds
Bombers - 19 disposals 14 marks 2 goals 2 behinds
Demons - 21 disposals 18 marks 5 goals straight

Also should get 2 or 3 votes in the loss to StKilda with 22 disposals 13 marks 5 goals 1 behind
And is a good chance at votes in the draw with the Bulldogs 19 disposals 9 marks 3 goals 1
Even the Hawthorn loss he had arguably his best match of the year with 27 disposals 13 marks 4 goals 1 behind

He could have as much as 17-18 votes by now

A bonus for Richo if that's so infamy  :thumbsup. Sugar had a great game against Freo as did Lids and Foley against the bombers. They may rob Richo of votes.

Spot on Infamy all depends on how is relationship is with the umps on the ground and whether blokes like Lids or Axel will take votes off him. Still this all could be a diversion by the media knowing we are success starved as a club and many of our supporters will jump on and unequivocally support much like when Campbo was fav in 1995 in a side thet won 15.5 home and away games yet polled badly. Hopefully the fact that we are 4.5 wins till now will not affect his chances in the eyes of the umps.

Last 25 years of Brownlows and Position on Ladder his club finished.
1983 Ross Glendenning (North)  1st
1984 Peter Moore        (Melb)   9th
1985 Brad Hardie         (Foots) 2nd
1986 Greg Williams       (Syd)   2nd   Robert Dipierdomenico  (Haw)  1st
1987 John Platten       (Haw)   2nd   Tony Lockett              (StK)  10th
1988 Gerard Healy       (Syd)   7th
1989 Paul Couch         (Geel)   3rd
1990 Tony Liberatore   (Foots) 6th
1991 Jim Stynes          (Melb)  5th
1992 Scott Wynd        (Foots) 2nd
1993 Gavin Wanganeen (Ess)   1st
1994 Greg Williams       (Carl)   2nd
1995 Paul Kelly            (Syd) 12th
1996 Michael Voss      (B Brs)   3rd  James Hird                   (Ess)   6th
1997 Robert Harvey     (StK)  1st    Chris Grant polled more but was ineligible due to suspension.
Western Bulldogs for the record finished 3rd.
1998 Robert Harvey     (StK)  6th
1999 Shane Crawford   (Haw) 9th
2000 Shane Woewoedin (Melb) 3rd
2001 Jason Akermanis   (Bris)   2nd
2002 Simon Black         (Bris)   2nd
2003 Nathan Buckley (Coll) 2nd  Adam Goodes (Syd) 4th  Mark Riccuito (Adel) 6th
2004 Chris Judd          (WCE)   7th
2005 Ben Cousins        (WCE)   1st
2006 Adam Goodes      (Syd)    4th
2007 Jimmy Bartel       (Geel)    1st

Lets break down the facts for Richo's chances  :pray
In the last 25 years 5 players have won the Brownlow from clubs that have not made the finals.
Paul Kelly in 1995 won in a team that had 8 victories for the season. The last time a player from a club outside the finals to win was Crawf for the Hawks in 1999.

Of the 30 Brownlows awarded since 1983

21 have gone to midfielders
5 to ruckmen  Goodes(2) Moore Wynd Stynes
3 players who played predominantely in defence the year they won Glendenning Wanganeen Hardie
1 Forward in Plugger in 1987

If we deduce Richo to have a chance as a forward, statistics show he is a 1 in 30 chance to win at a percentage of 3.33% based on the awarding of Brownlows based on players positions in the last 25 years.
Based on being a midfielder (utility) this year in the eyes of the umps midfielders are a 70% chance to win this  year but take into account the other mids also such as Cooney and Ablett.
Based on Club he has 0% chance. The best a Richmond player has done in the Brownlow in the last 25 years is Maurice Rioli finish 1 vote behind Ross Glendenning in 2nd place in 1983.

With all that take what u will fellow Tigers and lets hope Richo bucks some of the trends and takes Charlie home. :thumbsup

You only need to see Richo's form as a 33 year old to prove that Richo is here to break trends, not follow them

Brent Harvey loves Richo. Said on SEN this arvo that Richo would win the Brownlow if Richmond had won more games as he's had a magnificent year and the 1 votes he'll get in our losses would've turned into 3s if we had won those games. He reckons Bartel will win it.

Even in our late season wins, Tucky and Lids would've been scoring the 3 votes off the big fella.
