Similar thing occurred in a 5th round FA Cup tie at Sheffield United two years ago. Ball hit balloons and contributed to the ball going in or changing the direction of the ball to go to a Sheffield United player who promptly scored. Found that funny too as Manchester City was the victim then. Could not happen to two better teams. :lol :rollin :lol

LOL
I think the FA are being harsh on the ref blaming him for allowing the goal. It was a split second thing and it wasn't clear that it came off the balloon and not the Liverpool defender's leg until you saw the camera vision from front-on of the goal. Serves the dopey kid right :rollin.

I don't know how there were "only" two red cards in the Merseyside derby. Liverpool's Kyrgiakos got his just desserts getting sent off for sliding in with both studs but how Fellaini stayed on the park after stomping on Kyrgiakos leg is mindboggling. You break legs and end careers doing crap like that :help.

Although the Gunners are back in with a sniff it's hard to see them bypassing the top 2. They had their chance the previous two weeks and were found wanting. A badly needed 3 points for the Hammers btw.

Maybe so MT but Man Utd Chelsea nd the Scousers still have to play each and they will surely take points off each other. Arsenal played the big 3 in succession and don't have to worry about playing them again this season. If they get on a good run whilst the others drop points against each other it could keep them within striking distance with an easier run home.

I'd like it to happen Tucky as Ar_senal play an attractive brand of Soccer and it's getting dull seeing Man U especially and Chelsea dominate the EPL each and every year. I've just got a feeling the younger Gunners are a year or two off clicking to win the title irrespective of the fixture. Fergie's Man U just seem to know how to finish on top at the end of a season. I hoping I'm wrong though.

Man Utd lost to Everton so Chelsea is 4 points clear on top
Everton 3 - 1 Man United
Wolves 0 - 2 Chelsea ........ Drogba double

I might have to take back my comments Tucky. Ar_senal are back in range of least United.

Man Utd vs Chelsea this weekend. If the Red Devils win and go 4 points clear you'd think they'll walk away with the premiership. Hopefully though it's a draw and allows Ar-senal back in.

As a Man Utd supporter the vibe is Chelsea have got the title.
Although Chelsea have still to play Liverpool at Anfield and Tottenham who are in competition with Liverpool for the last Champion's League spot they are playing real well now that they don't have the distraction of the Champion's League.
I feel that by the time they play Liverpool fourth spot may be out of reach for the Reds who may be more than happy to ensure that Man Utd stay tied with them on 18 titles.
That's not to take anything away from Chelsea who have been more consistent than Man Utd who have dropped 7 league games this season including Burnley who will be relegated and losing at home to Villa for the first time in 28 years. Losing at home to Leeds in the FA Cup to Leeds at home had just shown to me that they have not had their minds on the job fully also.Furthermore they still have the Manchester derby at Eastlands and after beating them 4-3 in the league and in the semis of the Carling Cup, City will more than love to have some sort of bragging rights at ending United's tiltle tilt
Only hope is they drop points they shouldn't. No team has ever won for titles in a row and after last nights result at Old Trafford it still looks that way.

Man Utd under Fergie have always had a habit of snatching titles at the last moment. I still remember them coming from around 12 points behind at Christmas to pip Newcastle for the title in 1996. Fergie is definitely a win the war ahead of the battle manager. I could still see Chelsea throwing away points they are expected to pick up and Man U winning. The one major thing Chelsea has in its favour is their respective challengers two best players Rooney and Fabregas are gone for the season.
Liverpool are not guaranteed even a Europa spot with Villa having a game in hand so throwing a game to Chelsea to prevent Man U winning the title is risky. It would be a absolute disaster for the Reds if they miss out on Europe. Would just further put them behind the top 3 in the money stakes.

Chelsea through to the FA Cup Final with a 3-0 win over Villa.
A couple of crucial games last night as far as relegation goes as well...

EPL Sunday games...
2 more dropped point by Man Utd. They trail Chelsea by a point and Chelsea now have a game in hand as does Ar-senal who are 2 points behind United.
Blackburn 0 - 0 Man United
Liverpool 0 - 0 Fulham
Man City 5 - 1 Birmingham
Wolves 0 - 0 Stoke City
FA Cup:
A similar repeat of the Middlesbrough run to the final about a decade ago, with Pompey making the final despite being relegated from the EPL. They beat Spurs 2-0 in extra-time after a scoreless 90 mins.
Tottenham Hotspur 0 - 2 Portsmouth
So it's a Chelsea vs Portsmouth FA Cup Final at Wembley.
-
Chelsea now with one hand on the EPL premiership trophy. There'd be plenty of happy Spurs fans today as well after killing off Ar_senal's title hopes.
Chelsea 1 - 0 Bolton
Tottenham 2 - 1 Ar_senal
Aston Villa 2 - 2 Everton ..... double to Timmy Cahill for the Toffies :thumbsup
Wigan 0 - 0 Portsmouth
-
Chelsea lose at Spurs while United win the Manchester derby to have the EPL title up for grabs again.

Tottenham 2 - 1 Chelsea
Blackburn 2 - 3 Everton ....... Timmy Cahill scored the late winner

Fulham 0 - 0 Wolves

Man Utd back to the top of the EPL for tonight.

Everton 2 - 1 Fulham
Burnley 0 - 4 Liverpool
Now confirmed that Hull, Burnley and Portsmouth are relegated.

Interesting Tucky to see if Liverpool roll over this week to Chelsea to stuff up Man U as you suggested a while back. With the extra Europa spot available and Liverpool 5 points clear of Everton with just 2 games to go they can now afford to throw this one. Liverpool only have Hull in the last game who are relegated and have nothing to play for to pick up the point they need.

If Liverpool get knocked out by Athletico Madrid tonight they are no certainties for Europe next year.
Here lies the problem.
Benitez is on shaky ground if he can't get Liverpool to Europe for next season he is probably gone.
If that is the case they still need to win games and hope Spurs Villa and the Bitters who play each other don't get maximum points to leave them still with an unlikely Champions League spot or at worst a Europa League spot.
Then again playing for pride and withholding Chelsea's title bid by drawing or beating them puts Man Utd 1 title ahead of Liverpool and thus turning Sir Alex premonition all those years ago into reality which won't sit well with many Scousers. Just like on the last day in 1994-95 when Liverpool were playing Blackburn and beat them 2-1 whilst Man Utd needed to beat West Ham and only drew 1-1. So the Scousers played with pride and Blackburn choked to the line while United fell over the smaller obstacles back then. I expect Liverpool to put on a good show but I still expect Chelsea to win 2-0.
As much as I would love Liverpool to draw or win I just can't see it happening. Chelsea to win 2-0 and virtually engrave their name on the title with a home game at home to Wigan on the last day. Expect old United favourite in Steve Bruce to lay down and let his former boss romp in this week. Alas won't help in the title race , as it is ultimately going to go to Chelsea. boss romp in this week. Alas won't help in the title race , as it is ultimately going to go to Chelsea.

EPL overnight. Spurs stay 4th.
Tottenham 1 - 0 Bolton
Man City 3 - 1 Aston Villa
Stoke City 0 - 0 Everton
Birmingham 2 - 1 Burnley
Portsmouth 3 - 1 Wolves

20 metre Gerrard backpass intercepted by Drogba and he scores. May be the goal that wins Chelsea the title.
Being a Man Utd supporter and very cynical typical of a Scouser born and bred player to stuff up and ensure Man Utd don't go one title ahead of Liverpool.
HALF TIME
Liverpool 0 Chelsea 1 :banghead
-
Lampard makes it 2-0 to Chelsea title race over. :banghead
As it stands Chelsea 4 points clear.
United still have to play Sunderland later.
Next weeks final fixtures have Chelsea home to Wigan and United home to Stoke.
Can't see either team dropping points against opposition who are safe in mid table mediocrity.
-
Man Utd won against Sunderland so they remain in the hunt going into the final weekend if Chelsea choke.
Liverpool 0 - 2 Chelsea
Sunderland 0 - 1 Man Utd
Fulham 3 - 2 West Ham
-
Tottenham have sown up a Champions League Spot and are in a position of possibly qualifying automatically in the main draw if they win their final game on Sunday and Arsenal lose theirs.
Hull have officially been relegated also.
Only thing left to be decided with the last round of games this Sunday is whether Man United can retain the title for a fourth time in succession.
Wigan 2 Hull 2
Man City 0 Tottenham 1
Fulham 0 Stoke City 1
-
Chelsea romped home 8-nil against Wigan to win the EPL title.
Ar_senal 4 - 0 Fulham
Aston Villa 0 - 1 Blackburn Rovers
Bolton 2 - 1 Birmingham
Burnley 4 - 2 Tottenham Hotspur
Chelsea 8 - 0 Wigan Athletic
Everton 1 - 0 Portsmouth
Hull City 0 - 0 Liverpool
Man United 4 - 0 Stoke City
West Ham 1 - 1 Manchester City
Wolves 2 - 1 Sunderland

Happy for either club to make it as they've been to the abyss (4th division) and back in since last being in the top flight in the 1960s. Blackpool has a pretty decent supporter base for a club that's been out of the top flight for 44 years. They were one of top sides in the 1950s.
I've got a theory going at the moment that as the EPL becomes more and more about how much money you have to buy the best players and squads, the more big clubs from England's largest cities will dominate the competition. The top 9 clubs this year were from London, Birmingham and Manchester. Cardiff being Wales' largest city might be another example of that trend. Big cities have the support bases (both attendance and tv audience) and sponsorship dollars to generate more revenue or their club(s) than smaller cities despite many smaller English cities/towns historically being more traditional football regions.

Poor old Pompey. Admittedly they were lucky to be still level at half-time with Chelsea hitting the bar/post 4 times but Boateng will have recurring nightmares over that penalty miss only for Drogba's classy free kick to put Chelsea in front a minute later.
Hard to see Portsmouth surviving even the Championship next year being 130m pounds in the red :o and virtually having to find another team from scratch next season as this one they will be forced to let go to try and balance the books. It's not going to be a pleasant ride for their fans. So sad to see so many clubs in debt over there. Surely something has to give eventually as more and more clubs face financial troubles.

Blackpool will be in the EPL next year. Their back in top flight English football for the first time since 1971.
They came from behind twice to beat Cardiff City 3-2 and gain promotion along with Newcastle and West Brom.
-
Some proud and famous clubs from yesteryear coming back from the brink and earning top flight status.

Apparently Blackpool averaged crowds of just 8000 in the Championship and the current ground capacity is just 12k. Welcome to the Premier League boys. Makes North Melbourne look like a giant club lol. In the 1950s Blackpool were getting crowds of 38k so it shows how much 40 years in the wilderness has cost them.

On those figures and with ground capacity they won't stay long in the EPL.
It's hapenned before with teams like Barnsley and Bradford and unless they have plans to build a new stadium which for some of these clubs is a weight of debt anyway just ask Southampton who moved to a new stadium in St Mary's from their spiritual home in The Dell and played this season in the third tier with a 10 point deduction for entering administration. Once relegated from the EPL these teams just don't have the cash flow from the TV rights and such and therefore fall on hard times as the loans taken out to build the stadium and pay players just don't allow them to make ends meet.

Spot on Tucky. Even for big clubs such as Ar_senal building a new stadium such as Emirates deprived them of $$$ needed to buy gun players to keep up with the Jones of Chelsea and Man Utd. For smaller clubs it's just a catch 22 as you mentioned. They can't hope to survive in the mid-to-long run in the top flight. Sadly English football now comes down to who has the most $$$ wins :-\.
