Chelsea won the battle of the top 2.

Man United  1 - 2   Chelsea
Ar_senal      1 - 0   Wolves
Bolton         0 - 1   Aston Villa
Portsmouth  0 - 0   Blackburn Rovers
Stoke City    2 - 0   Hull City
Sunderland   3 - 1   Tottenham Hotspur
Burnley        1 - 6   Manchester City

EPL Table .... 5 games to go

Chelsea     74
Man Utd     72
Ar_senal     71

And Newcastle Utd has earned promotion to next season's EPL. So they were only down for one year.

As a Man Utd supporter the vibe is Chelsea have got the title.

Although Chelsea have still to play Liverpool at Anfield and Tottenham  who are in competition with Liverpool for the last Champion's League spot they are playing real well now that they don't have the distraction of the Champion's League.

I feel that by the time they play Liverpool fourth spot may be out of reach for the Reds who may be more than happy to ensure that Man Utd stay tied with them on 18 titles.

That's not to take anything away from Chelsea who have been more consistent than Man Utd who have dropped 7 league games this season including Burnley who will be relegated and losing at home to Villa for the first time in 28 years. Losing at home to Leeds in the FA Cup to Leeds at home had just shown to me that they have not had their minds on the job fully also.Furthermore they still have the Manchester derby at Eastlands and after beating them 4-3 in the league and in the semis of the Carling Cup, City will more than love to have some sort of bragging rights at ending United's tiltle tilt

Only hope is they drop points they shouldn't. No team has ever won for titles in a row and after last nights result at Old Trafford it still looks that way.

Man Utd under Fergie have always had a habit of snatching titles at the last moment. I still remember them coming from around 12 points behind at Christmas to pip Newcastle for the title in 1996. Fergie is definitely a win the war ahead of the battle manager. I could still see Chelsea throwing away points they are expected to pick up and Man U winning. The one major thing Chelsea has in its favour is their respective challengers two best players Rooney and Fabregas are gone for the season.

Liverpool are not guaranteed even a Europa spot with Villa having a game in hand so throwing a game to Chelsea to prevent Man U winning the title is risky. It would be a absolute disaster for the Reds if they miss out on Europe. Would just further put them behind the top 3 in the money stakes.

EPL Sunday games...

2 more dropped point by Man Utd. They trail Chelsea by a point and Chelsea now have a game in hand as does Ar-senal who are 2 points behind United.

Blackburn 0 - 0   Man United
Liverpool   0 - 0   Fulham
Man City  5 - 1   Birmingham
Wolves     0 - 0   Stoke City

FA Cup:

A similar repeat of the Middlesbrough run to the final about a decade ago, with Pompey making the final despite being relegated from the EPL. They beat Spurs 2-0 in extra-time after a scoreless 90 mins.

Tottenham Hotspur  0 - 2  Portsmouth

So it's a Chelsea vs Portsmouth FA Cup Final at Wembley.

Chelsea now with one hand on the EPL premiership trophy. There'd be plenty of happy Spurs fans today as well after killing off Ar_senal's title hopes.

Chelsea       1 - 0   Bolton
Tottenham   2 - 1   Ar_senal
Aston Villa    2 - 2   Everton ..... double to Timmy Cahill for the Toffies :thumbsup
Wigan         0 - 0   Portsmouth

Blackburn    2 - 3  Everton ....... Timmy Cahill scored the late winner
Birmingham 0 - 0  Hull
Fulham       0 - 0  Wolves
Stoke City   1 - 2  Bolton

Interesting Tucky to see if Liverpool roll over this week to Chelsea to stuff up Man U as you suggested a while back. With the extra Europa spot available and Liverpool 5 points clear of Everton with just 2 games to go they can now afford to throw this one. Liverpool only have Hull in the last game who are relegated and have nothing to play for to pick up the point they need.

If Liverpool get knocked out by Athletico Madrid tonight they are no certainties for Europe next year.

Here lies the problem.
Benitez is on shaky ground if he can't get Liverpool to Europe for next season he is probably gone.
If that is the case they still need to win games and hope Spurs Villa and the Bitters who play each other don't get maximum points to leave them still with an unlikely Champions League spot or at worst a Europa League spot.
Then again playing for pride and withholding Chelsea's title bid by drawing or beating them puts Man Utd 1 title ahead of Liverpool and thus turning Sir Alex premonition all those years ago into reality which won't sit well with many Scousers. Just like on the last day in 1994-95 when Liverpool were playing Blackburn and beat them 2-1 whilst Man Utd needed to beat West Ham and only drew 1-1. So the Scousers played with pride and Blackburn choked to the line while United fell over the smaller obstacles back then. I expect Liverpool to put on a good show but I still expect Chelsea to win 2-0.
As much as I would love Liverpool to draw or win I just can't see it happening. Chelsea to win 2-0 and virtually engrave their name on the title with a home game at home to Wigan on the last day. Expect old United favourite in Steve Bruce to lay down and let his former boss romp in this week. Alas won't help in the title race , as it is ultimately going to go to Chelsea. boss romp in this week. Alas won't help in the title race , as it is ultimately going to go to Chelsea.

20 metre Gerrard backpass intercepted by Drogba and he scores. May be the goal that wins Chelsea the title.

Being a Man Utd supporter and very cynical typical of a Scouser born and bred player to stuff up and ensure Man Utd don't go one title ahead of Liverpool.
