Sack Johnson and make Richo Captain
« on: May 26, 2007, 11:31:25 PM »
Richo is the one who should be captain.

He bleeds for this club and plays with passion.

Kane Johnson is a disgrace

The fact that Richo put his hand up to play tonight just shows how much the RFC means to him and how much he bleeds yellow and black.

Exactly what I said last week Bull.

Richo did more for the positive development of the youngsters tonight by SETTING AN EXAMPLE and showing COURAGE than Kane Johnson has shown in his entire Richmond career.

But I'd rather see Simmo get back on the field get back in form and make him skipper next season. Tough, doesn't take a backward step, spends a lot of time on the ball and in the midfield group, leads from the very first bounce and beats his opponent more of than not. Make Simmo skipper for 2 or 3 seasons and then see if any of the younger blokes deserve the role.

As I said last week in the post and as () )( has put on his avatar.
I will reiterate

Garbage captain. No grunt, no fight, no heart, no spine, no character, no personality, no skills, no idea.

You might also like to add to the above no desire, no passion, no grit, no quality,

It might actually do Kane Johnson's career a favour to relieve him of the captaincy.

I've been a knocker of his in recent times but I have to acknowledge his form in the last two weeks, I think he has picked up his game, even though he lacks awareness at times, he has beaten his opponent. If 10 out of your 18 players on the ground beat their opponent you should win the game, yes?

But yes, that is not enough on its own to qualify as a captain.

I am warming to Jake's idea of Simmo. A couple of years in the job and he will set it up for one of the 2nd/3rd year players that emerges (hopefully lids) to take over for the 2011 assault.

People will say Richo should be captain until he has a off game where he kicks 1.6 and everyone goes off their nut about his goalkicking lol.

Richo should have been made captain, but IMO it's a bit late now.

If anyone should get it at this stage it should be Newman

Whoever gets the captaincy next after Sugar you can pretty much guarantee it won't be one of Richo, Joel or Browny.

If Kane did get dropped this season, Richo wouldn't be captain. Brown is vc and Joel is dvc.

If he is replaced in the next year or two I would like it to be by a fairly young player. I think Newman would be a good choice.

I can't believe what I'm reading here. Sure, as I have said many times Johnson is a crap captain and an ordinary footballer at best and should fall on his sword but Richo as captain??? :o :o Thats just like going from the frying pan into a another frying pan.  :banghead
Yes, Richo did show guts and determination and played very well in difficult circumstances but we all know when things don't go his way the toys start flying everywhere. At times he probably has the worst body language I have seen from a tiger footballer. C'mon We've all seen his tanties when his leads aren't honoured. He can be quite the undisciplined footballer. A good Captain needs to be Disciplined, composed and calculating in all situations. I'm a firm believer that we need to recruit a quality leader but I am also a realist and doubt that this will happen in the current climate.
Therefore from the players we have I think there are only two at this stage that are ready to go as captain, Troy Simmonds and Chris Newman with Troy being my preferred pick. He's experienced, reads the game well, leads by example and has more than once turned the tide of a game single handedly. Newman also reads the game well but he is more tradesman-like and does the 1%'ers all game but its Troy's matchwinning potential that gets him over the line.

I don't doubt for a second that Richo bleeds yellow and black but this alone does not justify in my mind that he would make a good captain.

lmao@ richo as Captain stab.

How can u have a guy that has sporadic dummy spits that cause his face to strain from holding back tears ??

Simmo is a good call and for good reason young Jacob.

As for the Ghost......and the name isn't because he plays like Jim Jess but rather because u can run thru him,
he's GOT TO be dropped or put on the injury list.

What a  frikcen s h itman !!!

Review it at the end of the year. To change now would be ridiculous, and simply won't happen.

I am asking for change now, coz it would be unrealistic to think it would happen.

I agree with most of your comments Tiga, but i dont agree with what you and others are saying about his dummy spits.

i think Richo has been very good over the last 2-3 years. He had a bad track record years ago but i think he has improved that side of his game by a long way.

I do agree that unless we recruit someone who would be a walk in skipper then either Newman or Simmo would be the best choices.

I was more so having a crack at Johnson about how poo his leadership is.
