Q: "It was this day last year that Jack Riewoldt confirmed he had formally agreed to a new contract. He's playing pretty well at the moment. Are you around a similar situation as far as talks?"

Dimma:
"Taking Jack out of it, it's that time of the year and contract wise players will be in and out of contract at various stages and we've got a lot of guys in and out of contract at the same time. Those conversations will be occurring at the back end of the year. All Jack can do is keep playing his role and keep playing well. He's had a very good year. He's lead from the front. He's a great ambassdor both on and off the field. From my point of view, I couldn't be more pleased with the way he's going at the moment."

If we HAD SOME PROMISING YOUNG KEY FORWARDS COMING THRU then id hope JR would retire. The fact we don't means it does not matter if he plays on the current list situation means he is needed.
Its an area they want to hurry up and address imo before he does retire and there is nothing coming thru.

Can see Jack and possibly Cotch on current form going on another year. Sheds (age/slowing) and Lambert (hip) to retire this year. Touchwood, Grimesy has a couple of more years left in him. Dusty and Prestia are signed until 2024. Tarrant of course is a fill in and could retire either this or next year. Ideally, we will need to spread out the retirements of our vets so they don't leave in one hit. Even so, there's going to be at least a couple of lean years while we transition.

Dimma wouldn't answer either way whether Jack will get a contract for next year or not. Dimma agreed that Jack is playing well but he also said decisions will have to be made at the end of the year given our aging list and younger blokes coming through.

ps. Jack will be on AFL360 tomorrow night.

Jack is realistic about it.
Wouldn't surprise me if another club offered him a contract if we don't, but I dunno if he'd bother.

WATCH: ‘Dance him!’ Sledges and ‘sucking up to the ump’ as Tigers champion mic’d up

Fox Footy
July 4th, 2022 9:45 pm

From sledging opponents to “sucking up to the umpire”, footy fans have been given an insight into what it’s like playing against Richmond star Jack Riewoldt.

The champion forward was hooked up to a microphone during the Tigers’ win over West Coast on Sunday, with some of the highlights shared across Fox Footy’s Monday night shows.

First, on On the Couch, Riewoldt’s cousin Nick suggested Jack was “sucking up to the umpire” after being caught holding the ball by Eagles defender Tom Barrass.

“Great call,” Jack said.

Nick jokingly replied: “Great call, he said to the umpire. Now I know you’re wearing a mic, you know you’re wearing your mic, I’ve been with you enough on Christmas Day to know you would never tell an umpire that was a great call.

“Disingenuous.”

Then on AFL 360, Riewoldt was shown sledging West Coast speedster Jack Petruccelle following a 50-metre penalty which gave him a shot on goal.

“Hey Jack, I reckon that’s a 35-metre 50 metre penalty. You wouldn’t want to miss it now. You were hoping to get a little bit closer!” Riewoldt told Petruccelle.

“Dance him! You’re the quickest bloke in the AFL, dance him!”

Riewoldt was also shown speaking to the Tigers’ forward group at quarter-time, including Tom Lynch, Dustin Martin, Shane Edwards and Maurice Rioli.

“The other one is, I reckon we’re hesitating a little bit,” he told them.

“The backs have been spoken to, their forwards are getting all the way up, and we’re sorta looking around going ‘aww, I need to go back to him’.

“Go forward to your man. Go forward to your man.”

If Jack, Shedda and Lambert retire, take it to the bank that we'll be making a trade play for a young KPF, or targeting a couple in the draft. You're right, we don't have one coming through (we lost CCJ and Chol) but we won't be sitting on our hands waiting for Baker or Maurice to put on 45cm in the off season.

Where do you think we are going to pluck a forward from?? Claw is spot on if Jack retired we are completely stuffed. Why wouldn’t we go hard for a Bobby Hill so we don’t have to see Castagna again?

I suspect one of balta or gibcus will be tried more often as a forward cause let’s face it in a few years what will we have?

We landed Lynch didn't we? If retirements open up space in our cap, then we'd be a tempting proposition for some key forwards. If Tex signs on for two more years at Adelaide, one might squeeze out from there. Ben King might want to come back to Melbourne, the Bombers have a couple of young guys that might want out. Who knows?

we did mate, but Lynch had checked out. King wont leave coming off an ACL and with Suns on the rise. We need solid mids so Dusty can play deep forward and stay there.

Can we prize CCJ back with pick 49? :lol
