Lynch in a Richmond polo at his presser  :thumbsup.

* Glad it's all over and can move on. Happy to be a Tiger.

* Joked about there being more media here as a Richmond player.

* Played with Caddy and Prestia so know them. Looking forward to get to know everyone else.

* Impressed by the Richmond Football Club. They've got something pretty special.

* Coming here is great for my footy. Great to be a Tiger.

* Knee going extremely well. Had good news from the specialist the other day. A month away from running. Should be right for round 1. Will start slowly on a  modified training pre-Christmas but will ramp it up in the new year.

* Nice to fit in and learn from the club's leaders Cotch, Riewoldt and Rance.

* Very happy to nominate the Tigers and become a Tiger. Can't wait!
Here's the vision of Lynch's presser:

Former Gold Coast Suns captain Tom Lynch opens up about joining Richmond

Tom Boswell
Gold Coast Bulletin
8th October 2018

TOM Lynch says playing at the MCG and learning from new teammate Jack Riewoldt are two of the most exciting opportunities awaiting him at Richmond.

The former Suns captain has signed with Richmond on a seven-year deal that wasn’t matched by Gold Coast who will receive pick 3 at next month’s draft as compensation.

Lynch was taken on a tour of the Tigers’ Punt Road facilities on Monday by coach Damien Hardwick hours after the restricted agent got the trade he was seeking out of Queensland.

“It’s obviously great to be closer to family but (it will) also great to play on the MCG and play alongside Riewoldt. I’m sure I’ll learn a fair bit from him,” Lynch said.

Lynch, a two-time Suns club champion who kicked 131 goals for the club over eight years, was also chased by Collingwood and Hawthorn and the key forward said all three presented great opportunities.

“I felt there wasn’t any wrong club or choice to go with,” Lynch said.

“From the outside looking in I think (Richmond) have something really special and it’s great to be part of that.”

From Gold Coast’s first seven selections in its inaugural draft in 2010, Richmond now have three of them on its list including Josh Caddy, Dion Prestia and Lynch.

Lynch said he was tracking well after having surgery on his knee and while he would be on a modified training program early in the preseason, he expected to be fit to play in Round 1 against Carlton at the MCG.

“I’m probably still a month away from running but I’ll be well and truly right to go for Round 1,” Lynch said.

“I’ll be a bit slow early days (in preaseason). But I’ll pretty much start running once I start preseason. I’ll be a bit modified but after Christmas I should be ramping it up.”

Yep hard to believe he was their captain. Has clearly not received the level of support he should have. Not surprising when Gary Ablett is your leader

He was one of their better media performers  ;D

And if we look at it honestly, when Prestia got to Richmond he wasn't that great in front of the media either. Still not the best much improved

Where as Caddy, having been at Geelong has always been very impressive

Black and gold, Tom? New Tiger's rookie error

RECRUIT Tom Lynch got his first taste inside the AFL bubble when he was swamped by media in his first appearance in Richmond colours.

The former Gold Coast captain was taken aback by the interest after spending the past eight seasons away from the heartland.

So long he seemed to have temporarily forgotten the famous strip of his new club – referring to the colours as gold and black rather yellow and black.

Tigers fans are sure to forgive the key forward, who knocked back Collingwood and Hawthorn and took a large paycut to join the 2017 premiers on a seven-year deal still worth about $6.5 million.

"It's very exciting to be officially a Tiger today and it's nice the deal's gone through and I can look forward to getting into training," Lynch said.

Gold Coast confirmed on Monday it would not match the Tigers' offer for the restricted free agent. The Suns will receive pick No.3 as compensation.

Lynch, who has moved to a place nearby to Punt Road Oval, said he could already feel the difference from the Suns headquarters.

"There's a fair few more media here for starters," said the 25-year-old, who grew up in Sorrento on the Mornington Peninsula.

"Dimma (coach Damien Hardwick) just showed me around for the first time – there's black and gold everywhere, yellow and black sorry – so it's great."

Lynch said he was looking forward to renewing his friendship with former Suns teammates Josh Caddy and Dion Prestia and also learning from veteran key forward Jack Riewoldt.

"From the outside looking in, Richmond have something very special so it's great to be a part of it," he said.

"I know we're in a footy-mad state and it's great to be part of it."

Lynch underwent knee surgery in July, which prematurely ended his season but he believed he would be right for round one against Carlton and couldn't wait to run out on to a packed MCG.

"The knee's going well and I had a good result with the surgeon the other day – I'm probably a month away from running but I think I will be well and truly right to go for round one," he said.

Potential here is huge. If the opposition put heaps of work into Lynch then Jack gets off the chain. This could be a deadly combo.

Don't forget Caddy.  This is going to be awesome. I'm more excited than when Cousins joined the club.

Huge acquisition and possibly the best recruit the Tigers have ever obtained. Very excited at what Lynch will bring to our team as one of the best players in the comp. We now have 6 A grade stars :shh

Tom Lynch in no hurry to take up a leadership position at Richmond (Age)

Tom Lynch in no hurry to take up a leadership position at Richmond

Daniel Cherny
The Age
9 Oct 2018

After two eventful seasons as Gold Coast co-captain, Tom Lynch is in no hurry to take up a leadership position at his new club Richmond.

Lynch officially became a Tiger on Monday after the Suns opted not to match Richmond’s seven-year deal, worth about $6.5 million, for the restricted free agent.

Under the terms of the heavily back-ended contract, Lynch will be paid about $500,000 in the first three years - 2019, 2020 and 2021 - and then receive close to $5 million in the last four years, including around $1.5 million in the seventh season.

Lynch also has some allowance for an increase in the salary cap in the latter stages of the deal.

After months of speculation about his future, Lynch was unveiled in Richmond garb at Punt Road after word came through from the AFL, and was relieved the drawn-out process was finally over.

Lynch, along with Steven May, was appointed Suns co-captain in late 2016, and held the role for the best part of the last two years before being stripped of the title after informing Gold Coast he would seek to exercise his free agency rights.

Asked whether he had any leadership ambitions at Richmond, Lynch indicated he was happy just to fall into line behind captain Trent Cotchin and vice-captains Alex Rance and Jack Riewoldt.

“I think it will be nice to be led by ‘Cotch’, Riewoldt and Rance, [who] have been doing a great job. It’ll be nice to just fit in and learn from those guys,” Lynch said.

With his 2018 season having been ended by knee surgery, Lynch won’t be totally good to go for the start of pre-season but insisted he would be right for round one next year.

“I’m probably still a month away from running but I’ll be well and truly right to go for round one,” Lynch said.

“I’ll be a bit slow early days. But I’ll pretty much start running once I start pre-season. I’ll be a bit modified but after Christmas I should be ramping it up.”

Having spent the first eight years of his AFL career in one of football’s outposts, Lynch, who turns 26 this month, acknowledged that the heightened attention he would receive in the game’s heartland would take some getting used to. But any cons were certainly outweighed by the pros.

"There's a fair few more media here for starters," he said.

"I know what a footy-mad state this is and it's great to be part of it.

“It’s great that it’s all over now, I can move on and really excited to be finally a Tiger.

"'Dimma' [coach Damien Hardwick] just showed me around for the first time - there's black and gold everywhere, yellow and black sorry - so it's great. From the outside looking in, Richmond have something very special so it's great to be a part of it.”

Lynch joins his sister Bethany - a Richmond VFLW player - in becoming a Tiger.
