With no tall fwds for the moment we need more speed to burst into the 50arc and stop kicking long to no one. We will probably have more of a chance kicking a goal from 40 - 50 out than actually getting a deep mark.
Maybe move short fwd flank to actually use that long leg he has??

Effort is what counts

I think what disappointed me most about Richmond this game was simply their lack of pressure. They were a team very happy to run hard when they had momentum, but they largely allowed the Dockers to do what they wanted with the ball. They tried to match the style of controlling possession, but when you’re not winning the ball in the middle or not putting pressure on the kicker – you’re not going to generate enough possession for this style to work.

At the end of the game, Fremantle finished with 60 tackles to go with their 112 contested possessions and 36 clearances. When you compare that to Richmond’s 40 tackles, 16 clearances and 98 contested possessions, their lack of effort is exposed more than anything.

With where the club is at, I think coach Yze could excuse any number of mistakes, but even if everything else goes wrong, you can still control the effort you put in to get your hands on the ball first or, if you can’t, make life as difficult as possible for the opposition.

Richmond great Matthew Richardson has given his quick thoughts on the Tigers’ heavy defeat at the hands of Fremantle at the MCG.

Richo addressed the “big personnel issues” for the Tigers, saying they got “smashed in the midfield”.

No reason for lack of effort, pressure and tackling added to that poor skills and not hitting targets basic fundamentals of footy anyone not capable of that shouldn't be in the side.

Richo is on the money - we have Dow and Sonsie currently in our starting midfield up against an established outfit in Fremantle.  It’s going to end up a horror show .

Noticed the overall size difference between the teams yesterday. Not talking height, talking weight/bulk. Freo across the lines are so much stronger which was evident to the eye. The coaching group need to ensure we get size on the list either with existing players or new players to the club.

Despite knowing the strength of the freo midfield and despite knowing we would not have Hopper and Graham they refused to bring in McAuliffe.

I agree we were smashed but our contested ball numbers were quite good before we lost Hopper, Taranto and Prestia.
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.
