Swans wary of Frawley emotion
25 August 2004
Herald Sun
Nikki Tugwell

PAUL Roos fears the emotion surrounding Danny Frawley's farewell as Tigers' coach will lift Richmond and turn a winnable game for the Swans into a pre-finals stumbling block.

Losing to the bottom side for the second time this season could have dire consequences for Sydney, sixth on the ladder heading into the final round.

Richmond was in turmoil before beating Sydney in Round 7, with Frawley abused and spat on by hoon spectators as the Tigers slumped to their fourth-straight loss the previous week.

Richmond players are keen to give the popular coach a fitting sendoff and take their last opportunity to make a impression on incoming coach Terry Wallace.

"I was in a similar position at Fitzroy in the early '90s," Roos said.

"We had (club champion) Matty Rendell playing his last game. We played the West Coast Eagles who were on top going into Round 22 and we beat them.

"Having been a part of it myself, I know it's going to be a tough game for us.

"We respect them and they'll be fighting to get off the bottom of the ladder, so there is a fair incentive as well as Spud (Frawley), who is a terrific bloke who they respect."

Haven't we been trying to do this the past month or so  ???  ???  ???.

A fair bit of irony in that "fitting sendoff" comment  :help

I wonder if the AFL or the general public could really imagine a fitting send-off for Danny, Tiger-style?  :scream
My parents bought me a Richmond jumper and enrolled me in a junior footy clinic in 1981...look at me now.

We could parade him around the ground on the back of a tractor while he wore a donkey mask.

The audience could pelt rotten potatoes at him as he pased their part of the ground.

What the? Respect :-\ - um judging the way we've been playing - I don't think this is an accurate assessment of the situation :lol

Even Roos couldn't possibly believe this - we are a rabble.
Why would the players play for Danny after he's gone when they couldn't even play for him to save his career when they had the chance.
Swans by a 100 pts.

I think the Swans are a chance to re-write the record books for the winning margin this week.

Roos must be trying to get attendences up, wants to play at the G with a big crowd.
