At the very least he's a better class of recycled player than what we usually pick up - and from a better club than where we usually get them from. Will be good to have a defensively-minded player with pace too -  leg speed is just as important, if not more moreso, when you haven't got the ball.

Just hope that he does not follow the line of duds that we have picked up from Geelong eg Neeld, Ken Kingsley

They were both from pre-premiership era Geelong. Neeld was from runner-up era Geelong & they had to get rid of Kingsley to win a flag.

I think james Hird was a 70+ draft pick

So was Anthony McDonald, Paul Campbell, Robert Panozza, Robert Bowden   and Niall Buckley.

Taylor Hunt wants to earn his spot at Richmond for Round 1 clash with Carlton
Jon Ralph
Herald-Sun
November 06, 2014

FORMER Geelong tagger Taylor Hunt says he must prove he deserves a spot in Richmond’s season opener against Carlton next year after signing as a delisted free agent this week.

The Tigers were keen to take all their selections in this month’s draft but were convinced to secure Hunt after a successful medical and impressive interview last week.

He took down Carlton captain Marc Murphy with three goals last year as a Cat and would seem a likely starter if he can survive an arduous pre-season starting November 24.

But while childhood Tigers fan Hunt says he wants to get on the “Tiger Train” he isn’t taking anything for granted.

A bunch of senior Richmond players trained at Punt Rd on Wednesday with the year one to four Tigers starting training on Monday.

“Definitely everyone wants to be playing in Round 1 and to be in the season opener would be amazing,’’ Hunt told the Herald Sun.

“I have played in front of some pretty decent crowds against Hawthorn but playing in the season opener would be awesome.

“But it depends what role I am playing and the first thing I have to do is complete a full pre-season and play some good games in the pre-season to get my spot in Round 1.”

Hunt, 24, was passed over in the trade period but was able to convince Tigers pro scout Blair Hartley and coach Damien Hardwick of his worth on a one-year deal.

“I was at a point where I thought I might not find myself on a primary list so I am happy with how it’s all panned out,’’ he said.

“I met with them and it was clear they wanted to use all their draft picks but the meeting went quite well and I was pretty positive going away from it.

“I had a medical the next day and they were happy with my groins (after issues this year), it was a bit different from (Jack) Trengove’s navicular bone so they were really confident. With Daniel Jackson leaving they value players who play their role and whether I (tag) or play in the backline, they like my flexibility.”

Hunt’s mum and extended family are mad Tigers, and he admits he caught the Tiger bug again at times late last season.

“”Mum went to the Grand Finals in the 1960s and the last win (in 1980) so I think there will be a few Hunts signing up or renewing their memberships.

“It will be good to be at Richmond. They have played finals recently and we saw how much momentum they had last year with the Tiger Train. The supporters are passionate and they fill the MCG so it will be great to be involved.”

Taylor Hunt interview ...

VIDEO: http://www.richmondfc.com.au/video/2014-11-07/recruitment-zone-hunt-arrives

* There were a couple of weeks there where I thought the dream of AFL was over. I’m rapt I find myself on an AFL list and I’m very happy that it’s down here at Richmond.

* It’s a bit nerve-wracking meeting a whole new team and getting to know my team-mates, which I’m actually looking forward to. I’m just really excited to get out on the track again.

* I was lucky enough to meet Damien Hardwick and Blair Hartley with my manager.  We had a meeting and came in the next day for a medical. From then on, I was a Richmond player.

* I was a big Richmond supporter.  I used to come with my parents and my nanna.  We had some reserved seat up in the Great Southern Stand. We used to come to every game that was in Melbourne from the age of five.  I really enjoyed coming to the MCG.

* I’ll be a little bit flexible.  I really enjoy going through the midfield and playing on an opponent and defending, but at the same time, being able to attack and find my own ball and try to be as damaging as possible. I know I’ve got a lot of work to do.  The main priority at the moment is to get through the pre-season fit and hopefully put my name up there for a Round 1 spot.

17 is the lowest number available but given its significance (a non-captain hasn't worn it in over a decade) then the next lowest number free is 21.

Tigers are Hunting the right type of players

Taylor Hunt to Tigerland. I was overseas when I heard the news and boy was I ecstatic. Why would you be ecstatic over a delisted free agent whose played 63 games in eight seasons I hear you say?

Well, here is why.

The Richmond Tigers have done particularly well in recruitment since the ‘Tambling era’. The evolution of football has allowed loyalty to be somewhat thrown out the window – and how good is that!

Players are doing more for themselves and greater for the clubs they end up at. Both parties are winning – oh the fans, forget them for the minute, you can’t please everyone. The Tigers have brought in the likes of Bachar Houli, Shaun Grigg and Troy Chaplin from other AFL clubs in recent years.

These three have settled into the Tigers’ line-up better than expected. However, despite being good footballers they lack one aspect of the game that I dearly miss. Courage.

You can teach athletes to position themselves to receive a handball, or lob a 55-metre pass into clear space for a forward to lead into. You can’t teach courage. You can’t teach the ability to put your body on the line. You can’t teach bravery.

Steve Morris, Nick Vlaustin and Trent Cotchin are Tigers that put their body on the line, that perpetuate the word courage. We need more of that. Taylor can deliver.

Now, the next bit won’t shock you – Taylor needs to be more dynamic. With Daniel Jackson gone, Taylor Hunt needs to fill his role as a tagger. However, courage and the ability to tag won’t keep you in AFL circles too long. Just like genuine full forwards are expiring, so are built-in taggers.

During Taylor’s final years at Geelong he has big roles on some quality opposition including Marc Murphy and Stephen Hill. He did well; he negated their influence on the game while collecting some of the football himself – but with how much damage? Not a lot to put it simply. Three goals playing on Marc Murphy was a highlight, but how easy is it to find one major highlight in a 63-game career.

His courage will shine through at Tigerland, I am sure of that. A player from a successful background who had to work for his spot every week at the Cattery will blossom with Tiger cubs around him. Will he do a great job tagging? Yes, we think so. Will he thrive without selection pressure? Let’s wait and see.

:lol Willy has raised an important question with his animated GIF....Who picks up dog turds with a brush??? That's just fraught with danger. Only the dry ones that go white would you have a chance at getting into the pan. Even then, too dry and white powder poo would flick everywhere. Forget any steamers or the post drizzle porridge. Metal scoop only for me.  Either that or your 4 iron after a bad day on the greens.  :thumbsup
