Lyon: Richmond loss a ‘little warning bell’By SEN Garry Lyon suggests the alarm bells aren’t too far away for Richmond.
The reigning premiers were beaten by 36 points by Adelaide last night in the opening match of Round 2.
The Tigers won the 2017 flag on the back of playing fierce contested footy accompanied by manic pressure but according to Lyon, that was severely lacking at the Adelaide Oval.
The Melbourne champion says he has Richmond ‘on notice’ following their disappointing performance from a contested ball viewpoint.
“I can’t help but watch the Tigers, as I did the Dogs last year,” he said on AFL Nation’s pre-game show.
“And I’m watching to see whether there’s a little bit off, (but) the sample’s very small.
“40 contested possession differential. I’m not going to go with it just yet, but it’s on notice for me.
“Because that says they only need two players to be slightly off. Last year I would’ve put my head in the fire for that contested ball but I’m not today.
“It’s a little warning bell. I think we watch that with great interest.”
