THE Melbourne Water scandal could be set to intensify, with the authority now admitting it will continue to overcharge millions of consumers for their water until at least early next year.

Amid an outcry over the discovery that households have been mistakenly billed for a desalination plant that is not yet operating, Melbourne Water confirmed last night it intended to keep charging people for the plant anyway.

With the troubled Wonthaggi project not expected to be completed until February, this means the water authority will be overcharging Melburnians for at least eight more months - unless it is ordered to stop doing so.

Melbourne Water says it needs to keep overcharging the public to maintain its financial stability because the extra money has been factored into its latest five-year financial plan.

Why don't you ask your Greeny mates how the plant is going??

Pretty rich you start questioning this debacle, when because of you lot millions and millions has been wasted

I have a 24 yr old client on 250k a year working 6 hrs a day over at the plant. He does nothing most days and takes breaks every half hour. The norm apparently with a lot of his co workers

Never seen someone gloat as much as he does. He loves the delays and why wouldn't he

Another fantastic initiative that we will pay for in the years to come

Siding with '65 on this one, but agree with Daniel in that the workers are sitting around with their fingers in their bums. The facility has been left to rot and the electric motors on the pumps for example have all rusted and are being replaced. I had a call two Saturday's ago from a leading sparky there asking if we could get them terminal boxes faster than the motor manufacturer. Gotta love it, replacing the terminal boxes on what should be brand new pump/plant equipment. Our money going to good use  :thumbsup

how can you side with 65. the desal plant is a socialist white elephant imposed on the community by labor and there greenie mates. everyone has to pay for this crap even the poor people who cant afford it. so much for labor value its a disgrace. daniel is 100 million percent correct IMHO.

What has that got to do with it?

I feel sick in the guts when I read how families will struggle and guys are sitting on 250k, smoking ciggies, punching bongs waiting for work to do over there.

You think that's right??

I used to be seduced into this Labour for the people mentality until I opened my eyes

Everything we do for the coming years will be to pay for failed initiative after initiative

Lucky for most Australians their days are numbered
