It does sound like you have your dogs under control, but i do hope you let them run and frolic and generally enjoy themselves a bit.

Absolutely, we take them to the big off lead area down near Altona beach all the time. They are. Free to run and go crazy. But when we call them back they comeback.

Trust me they are incredibly spoilt

We are off on holidays in October to Bright and they come with us. We will have them down at the river for fun a dames

Not a Senator but certainly a nutjob.

I wonder if he realises that his vote will mean absolutely nothing.

I have corrected the Age's spelling error (unlike the Age)

Clive Palmer wins Fairfax by just 36 votes

Mining giant Clive Palmer has narrowly won the seat of Fairfax by just 36 votes, in a knife-edge result destined for a recount.

At 2.30pm, the Australian Electoral Commission finished its count, announcing Mr Palmer had won the seat by three dozen votes, after clawing back from an earlier margin of just 22 votes.

If the margin of votes at the completion of the distribution of preferences is less than 100, a recount will be automatically triggered. The Australian Electoral Commission will waste no time, beginning its recount on Monday.

''There will be a full distribution of preferences which is a fresh count in any case,'' AEC spokesman Phil Diak said.

Mr Palmer had led the count by 111 overnight.

Early on Saturday, scruinteers scrutineers began the final stage of counting for the seat, tallying some 450 votes that had yet to be counted, plus any late-arriving postal votes.

Mr Palmer is overseas and on Thursday tweeted that he had been having tests of a ''Titanic II'' model conducted at a facility in Germany.

But he has already indicated that he would demand a recount whatever the result, accusing authorities of ''tampering'' with ballots earlier in the week.

''I'll formally request a recount in the seat of Fairfax due to evidence of tampering of the ballots and discrepancies with the count,'' he said.

Liberal Democrats nutcase senator

 :lol

Leyonhjelm proposes asylum seeker tariff

Liberal Democrats senator-elect David Leyonhjelm has proposed an open door asylum seeker policy that would charge people $50,000 for permanent residency in Australia.

Mr Leyonhjelm, who will join the Senate on July 1, will be one of eight senators from minor parties who will hold the balance of power in the upper house.

He wants to keep access to welfare and other benefits exclusive to Australian citizens and then open up the nation's front door to asylum seekers - at a cost of $50,000.

"People are coming to Australia, they don't have work skills but they still find it attractive from a welfare point of view," he said.

Advertisement "(Under the proposed policy) when you get here you're allowed to work, you don't get locked up, but you don't have access to welfare."

It would then become an economic consideration for asylum seekers, he said.

"If you don't think you can get a job and support yourself, you don't come," he said.

"They would say to themselves: 'Is it worth my while spending $50,000 to come here, knowing that if I can't get a job it's money down the drain'?".

This one hasn't even started and his own party is at war with itself.

Motoring Enthusiasts in chaos as Queenslanders sack Victorian arm
Date October 7, 2013 - 5:35PM

Heath Aston

The political party behind 4WD-loving senator-elect, Ricky Muir, has descended into civil war.

The Queensland-based founders of the Australian Motoring Enthusiast Party have sacked the leadership of the Victorian arm of the party - effectively leaving the 32 year-old media-shy father of five representing a party that does not currently exist in that state.

In a letter sent over the weekend to 290 Motoring Enthusiast members in Victoria, party chairman Tony Standfield said the central executive, run out of Queensland, would take on a caretaker role before a new federal state council can be voted into existence.

The executive, which includes party founder and national secretary Keith Littler, raised six points justifying the decision to terminate the five-member Victorian hierarchy.

They included the establishment of an unauthorised Facebook page by the Victorian branch, correspondence with the media against the party's strict guidelines and policy announcements that did not square with the executive's position.
