When we 25 pts down midway 2nd quarter, I thought the captain really stood up with his physical presence. Not just in the ruck but he nailed a few crucial tackles on Hawk mids which got the ball going in our direction. The goal he kicked from the forward stoppage came at an important time too. Got us back in the game on the scoreboard. All up Nank ended up with a whopping 15 contested possessions and 8 clearances :o.

20 disposals (7k, 13h, 15c, 5u, 60% eff.)
1 mark
5 tackles .... ( 2 F50 tackles )
8 clearances ... ( 2 centre clearances )
2 inside 50s
2 intercepts
35 hitouts
109 metres gained
3 score involvements
1 goal
75% time on ground

ps. Waits for Kane Cornes to point out Nank gave away 6 frees.

Triple Richmond premiership ruckman Toby Nankervis is thriving in his new role this season as the team’s co-captain.

Nankervis has been providing the Tigers with inspirational on-field leadership through his robust style of ruck play.

Not only has he won plenty of hit-outs at centre bounces and around-the-ground stoppages, as well as applied intense pressure to opposition players, he’s also racked up impressive disposal and clearance numbers.

The 27-year-old is averaging 15.8 disposals, 8.4 contested possessions, 3.6 clearances, 2.3 stoppage clearances, 4.7 score involvements, 4.1 tackles and 27.2 hit-outs per game this season.

Richmond ruckman Toby Nankervis was charged with rough conduct against Luke Parker and can accept a $3,000 sanction with an early plea.

What an absolute steal of a trade get that was.

He was surpassed by others at Sydney and they got pick 45 for him. There have been other trades like this when it comes to ruckmen and pecking orders.

Its pretty damning our record of drafting ruckmen and then having them develop into good afl players  for us. You probably have to go all the way back to 1997 and the Ottens draft.

This is an area i would hope we can long overdue address.

Callum Coleman-Jones was probably a good get. He was drafted at 20 and has held his value. Other than that I can't remember the last time we used a high draft pick on a ruckman, which goes some way to explaining why our speculative picks spent on ruckmen have so often missed the mark historically.
