My source tells me the Shiel camp are using the Saints’ cap space to drive up his asking price with other VIC clubs. Last year I reported the Saints offered Shiel a million dollar, 5 year deal. That offer has significantly increased in 12 months.

But have the Saints called Shiel’s bluff? Are the Saints preparing to use Shiels’ personal relationship in their favour by offering a coaching role to Mark “Choco” Williams? This, combined with the financial and leadership incentives STK can afford.

As it stands today, STK’s offer to Shiel is close to 25% larger than the next best offer from rival VIC clubs. Negotiations continue.

I know these figures for Polec sound ridiculous and rightly so but honestly kangas don’t have many if any on the list that would demand large salaries. If they front end his deal and knock off the majority of it in the first two years then by the time they get other players (josh Kelly) he won’t actually be on the 750k that’s being thrown around.
