Passion and fighting for the cause
« on: October 28, 2007, 06:29:45 AM »
There's a snippet in the Herald-Sun today about Roo fans lack of passion and action towards stopping North heading north.

It would be a sad day if it ever got to the stage where Tiger supporters were as fatalistic and apathetic as Roo supporters seem to be over their relocation to the Gold Coast.

You'd hope the Tiger passion would be as strong as ever as it was during the mid 80's when relocation to Brisbane was suggested and the late 80's during the SOS campaign when supporters rallied as one to dio their bit to save the Club.

it seems certain the Kangaroos will announce a relocation to the Gold Coast within weeks - and incredibly no one seems to care.

When Fitzroy was pushed into extinction in all but name only, its fans did everything, but burn AFL House to the ground.

Yet the Kangaroos are considered over the line to agree to a new home for the 2010 season, and we haven't heard a whimper from the fans.

No rage and no protests. Nothing.

Perhaps it is because there is a sense of fatalism about the Kangaroos.

Move and they retain some Melbourne presence, stay full-time and they may cease to exist within half a decade.

Where once there was raw passion with little accompanying reasoning from the fans, now there is an understanding that, in their present form, the Kangaroos simply can't survive in Victoria.

dont worry OE

rfc and the kangas are 2 exact opposite clubs

rfc = supporters with truckloads of passion/support
kangas = supporters with minimal passion/support

rfc = team with players that show miminal playing  with passion
kangas = team with players that show extreme amounts of playing with passion

I know what you mean X but there wasn't much shinboner spirit against the Pussies in the QF or against Port in the PF ;). The Roos this year were very much like the Tiges of 95. Plenty of passion and spirit but lacking the class to compete with the big boys.

Kangaroos are characterless hence they have to use another club to promote themselves cannot do it on their own. Despite the success they have had in the last 15 years and having W Carey on their roster they have been unable to substantiate into members those fans who grew up idolising Carey and co as kids 10 -15 yrs ago who are now adults and can pay for a membership. Sad reality is the pin should be pulled from this club but it won't and they will end up on the Gold Coast as a White Elephant as first but the AFL will make sure eventually that they succeed as Sydney and BrisVegas have in recent years and they will receive help from the AFL by the truckload to ensure this.

As for us we have the support in terms of members and dormant fans who have not jumped on board as members. Collingwoods numbers may be surpassed in terms of members should we remian very successfull for 5 -10 years. Yet we don't utilize this natural resource and we find ourselves in the poo we are in. North need all the help they can get and they get it. Pies and Blues buy all the help they need due to their requests being lodged by ppl with clout. What we need is to get our on field house in order for a period of time over subsequent and successive seasons so that the afl can trust us. Its a scratch my back scratch your back relationship. You win games you make finals you win a flag you make finals again means your membership goes from 30 to 40 thou we trust you we give you 9 MCG home games and 2 at the dome agst Brissy and Freo 5 or 6 away at the G plus your 2 or 3 aways at the dome against the Dogs and the Sts and you are left with 4 or 5 interstaters. Then they factor the profits they make from your success and won't ever want to lose it. Its all in our hands. Collingwood get treated favourably and make finals each year why would the AFL jeapordise their cash cow ?  The sleeping giant in terms of us needs to awake as the alarm has been ringing for some time but through our own doing we have been pressing the snooze and going back to bed. We wake up the benefits are endless simple.
