Gibcus has had a setback :(. According to Dimma, Gibbo has had "a bit of discomfort in his hamstring". So, he won't be making his comeback in the VFL this week and we are going to hold him off for a while to see how it progresses.

A 6mth hamstring - FMD.  I could find a meth addict with more idea on how to manage our injured players than our team does

He tore his hamstring off the bone

This type of injury can take anywhere between 4 months to 12 months to get right. It depends on how the reattached heals.

He had problems with infections in the wound

That has nothing to do with our fitness people.

Everything would have been done via the specialist who did the surgery via our team doctors

Care to revise your position on this now we know he reinjured the same hamstring in a different spot?

Just bad luck or shiteful injury management and rehab.  I'm backing the latter.

From the HeraldSun:

The Tigers were hopeful Gibcus would play a half in the VFL this weekend after hamstring tendon surgery in January.

He has battled three infections in the hamstring wound that has delayed his return but suffered another episode while warming up on Wednesday.

It is not tendon-related but the Tigers are now aware they will need to build his hamstring strength up before he is ready for the rigors of the AFL.

He suffered significant muscle waste while unable to train as he fought off the trio of infections, so will need to build strength and stamina before his next attempt at an AFL return.

The Tigers do not have a return date for him as they assess their best course of action.

Star forward Tom Lynch will see a specialist on Monday to assess whether his metatarsal fracture has healed enough for him to ramp up his recovery.

He is still some time away from an AFL return.

Co-captain Toby Nankervis will ramp up his training on Saturday and is likely to return in round 11 against Port Adelaide.

If he can get through training next week he is a chance to take on Essendon in the Dreamtime at the ‘G clash but a return the following week is more likely.

Early prognosis

After a gradual shortening of the injury list, it's jumped out again at Punt Road. Hopper has suffered a strain to the soleus portion of his calf, which is in the lower portion of the leg. Soldo was a test last week, but has been bumped back out to a medium-term return as he battles a plantar fasciitis issue. Gibcus was poised to make a VFL return over the weekend, but suffered a setback to a different spot in his hamstring on Friday. – Sarah Black

The forever 6-11 man it seems

6 weeks if the visit surgeon this week and he says all is good after surgery and Lynch can commence running again

longer if things aren't healing the way they should

I think (hope) our medical team have learnt the extra cautious approach is the way to go. they did it with Graham's hammie, gave him a extra week and seems to have worked. Looks like they are doing the same with MJ, 21 days only clicked over this week, taking an extra week few days to get him right

He was 6-11 three weeks ago
If the current 6-11 is accurate then there is only two explanations

1- the initial estimate was wrong
2- he’s had a setback

Granted it can still fall into the initial 6-11, but I would have thought it would currently be 3-8

get what you are saying Damo

But he was interviewed on friday in that "roaming Brian" segment and he said he was to see the surgeon this week. And he said anther "few weeks"

Not sure there's been a setback, doubt that there has been. He only came out of the moon boot a couple of weeks back and off to the surgeon this week. I think the original estimate was 11-15 weeks, so think they are still around that time frame

As I said I'd rather they take the cautious approach, than rush. He is to valuable a player and it was too serious an injury to not take the careful, long approach

I'll be honest I take the x-x weeks with a grain of salt TBBH

For years the injury update listing from the Club has been terrible. It's not just this year it's been like it for the last 5 or 6.

And FWIW the other week at the first player sponsor night, Tom wasn't there but I did ask what had happened and got told very early in the 1st qtr he copped a heavy knock to his foot by a Dog's player (not the vision the media claims was when he was hurt). He played out the game because he couldn't do anymore damage to it and because Graham had done his hammy
