If true this would make things interesting...

Why Fremantle could overlook Rich
29th October 2008, 9:15 WST

WA could produce three of the first four players in the national draft with mounting speculation that Fremantle will choose West Perth’s Stephen Hill with their No. 3 draft pick ahead of Subiaco’s Daniel Rich.

With Melbourne tipped to pick key forward Jack Watts first and West Coast favouring Swan Districts ruckman Nick Naitanui second, the Dockers will choose between Rich and Hill and are understood to have the wiry Hill at least on even terms.

Port Adelaide would almost certainly then pounce on Rich with the fourth pick on November 29.

I wouldn't mind Rich slipping to 8th to be honest if clubs are that stupid. Gun! He and Watts are clear top 2 IMHO. Freo's draft history is even worse that ours which is saying something but surely they are just bluffing. We did the same thing last year with Cotchin and Cale Morton even though we had Cotchin always locked in.

There's picking due to draft camp results and then there's picking due to draft camp results
Funnily enough, prior to the draft, JON was considered to be a good decision maker and had good disposal too

I still think he could turn out pretty good
You'd be asking for the recruiters eyes to be tested lol. Miller wasn't the only one who rated JON highly as most mock drafts had him as a first rounder :-\. Perhaps playing on the bigger WA grounds, it being junior footy, and the freer more open style of WA footy, both those aspects of his footy weren't truly tested under pressure as they fall apart pretty easily when pressed in senior footy. Oh well this isn't a JON thread so moving along. I think the last couple of drafts has seen a switch away from the skinny athletic types and back to natural footballers. I guess Naitanui will be the test. Massive upside if his footy ability can be brought up to match his athletic traits but a huge risk that could go either way. He could turn out a freak like Buddy or bomb out like JON. I won't mind if Nat is gone early.

Despite being perplexed by some of the non-delistings I'm very pleased we will now have 4 picks in the National draft now although it wouldn't surprise me if we may use pick 74 on a recycled player. We could also save it and use it in the PSD instead but I'd rather use it on a new kid than pick up another dud like a Knobel or Kingsley  :P.

Because not everyone now has the same number of picks after the list lodgements, our last pick has moved up to 70 I believe. So we have now draft picks 8, 26, 58 and 70.

Yep WP. He was also picked up as a rookie by the Crows in 2005 but never played an AFL game.

Fremantle has the third pick in the draft and with Jack Watts and Nicholas Naitanui expected to be the first two players taken by Melbourne and West Coast, Rich is the favourite to be taken next. But Stephen Hill is an exciting prospect.

sounds as if their interest in stephen hill is confirmed.  perhaps that means if WCE take rich with their pick, freo is going to overlook naitanui and take hill instead.  In that case, maybe naitanui will slip to port and leave vickery for us to take at 8.

Then again Naitanui could slip to 8  :-\

I always thought that Rich would be WCE's pick, but now Natanui is 200cm and Seaby is looking like leaving at the end of the year, then I'm waivering. It could be Rich that then slips to 4th but either way, Port would be crazy to let him slip. That way Vickery is still a chance to fall to us, so it's all up to Freo.
