Rookie and preseason drafts - Today (Friday) from 3pm
« on: November 26, 2021, 02:35:53 AM »
The Rookie Draft and Pre-Season Draft will be held consecutively on Friday afternoon from 3pm EDT, both in virtual format.

The AFL will confirm the draft order for both the Rookie Draft and Pre-Season Draft on Friday.

Seven members of Fox Footy's Top 50 Draft Power Rankings remain available, including Ned Long (No.38), Charlie Dean (No.39), Jack Avery (No.43), Casey Voss (No.44), Josh Browne (No.47), Noah Pegoraro (No.48) and Mitch Cox (No.50).

Other young guns hoping to get a gig include Josh Cripps, the younger brother of Carlton gun Patrick, Blayne O’Loughlin, the nephew of Sydney great Michael, and Blake Schlensog, the former Geelong-listed tall who has impressed in the WAFL since his late 2020 delisting.

But amid a league-wide list squeeze there are also plenty of well-known players needing to be redrafted, either by their existing club or by another, to continue their careers.

AFL clubs have made commitments to redraft over a dozen players as rookies, including Cam Ellis-Yolmen (Brisbane), Lochie O’Brien and Matt Cottrell (Carlton), Isaac Chugg (Collingwood), Connor Blakely and Mitch Crowden (Fremantle), Jez McLennan and Rory Thompson (Gold Coast), Jacob Wehr (GWS), Jared Polec (North Melbourne), Sam Mayes (Port Adelaide), Noah Cumberland and Bigoa Nyuon (Richmond), and Lewis Taylor (Sydney).

Schlensog plz
Agree. Would also be looking at Skinner he would be great for our reserves team and decent cover if JR or TL went down.

We dont have any spots open unless we upgrade 1 or 2 to main list - Heres the list size requirements
Minimum 37 players all up on list
Maximum 44 players all up on list inc 2 Cat B
Minimum 36 & max 38 on main list
4-6 Cat A Rookies
2 Cat B Rookies

We already have 6 Cat A & 1 Cat B & 41 in total on list, so we need to upgrade 2 to meet the Minimum 36 & max 38 on main list

Didn't skinner get picked up already?

I'd take Schlensog and you'd think surely between him, Balta, Gibcus and Miller you could make a backline for years to come and possibly try one of them forward. Schlensog himself can swing forward.

If we make a spot then one of:

Long/Freeman/Josh Green/Schlensog/Cripps :shh

Like Green because he can play as an inside mid and pinch hit as a KPF...two birds with one stone and all that....hasn't set the world on fire at GWS but reckon he'd go better with us..and of course could help us lure his brother... :shh

Freeman is another experienced mid.... :shh

Schlensog is a hardened KPP that can play both ends.... :shh

Cripps gives us ruck & fwd coverage...still raw though and a bit injury prone like his brother...probably why he was overlooked :shh

Ned Long the Sydney Stack of this draft? :shh
