Adelaide great Blight blasts Richmond life membership decisionAndrew Slevison
Tue, 6th Feb 2018 Malcolm Blight has made it very clear he does not agree with the Richmond Football Club.
The Tigers last week awarded life membership to the 2017 premiership team but Adelaide Crows legend Blight feels it is far too premature for some of these players to be handed such a prestigious accolade.
“The 22 that played were made life members,” he said on Sportsday SA.
“Now, every club can do what they like but when a player gets a life membership for five games…
“I’ve got to quiz who made that decision and why would that decision be made?
“You are already a premiership player, you are already one of the very specials in the game.
“(I find it disrespectful) to a guy who has been there eight years, played 120 games and just missed out on playing.
“What’s he done? He’s done plenty.”
Kane Cornes then added: “The thing for me is you are always going to be a premiership player, that is special in itself.
“(You) do not automatically get life membership because you’re a premiership player.
“Port Adelaide it is 10 years of service, the Adelaide Footy Club is something similar.”
