Cotch on now with KB

KB caught up with him just before training.

  • Not an ideal start to the season, had high expectations. Hoping to turn the season around from now.
  • No problems with the achilles now. Found a happy medium.
  • Too much training was the cause of it, trying to catch up on some guys and overworked it. Not an ongoing concern, needs to get conditioning. Praised the conditioning staff.  :o
  • A few younger players in against the Eagles and played well.
  • Jade Rawlings message is to play as a team and work on the defensive side.
  • Cousins has been terrific for the younger guys, showing them how to push to the next levels. Now matter how fit/unfit you are, you can push to the next level. Does a lot of blocking for others.
  • Expects Cousins to be around next season, if his body holds up. Cousins is working hard, and thinks the club can benefit having him around.
  • Wants to be a leader of the football club. Kane Johnson showed him the ropes. Taking it one step at a time. Learning from other past leaders.
  • Had a lot of confidence going into round 1, and it did sap a lot of confidence from the group after the thrashing.
  • The added media pressure on Terry was something we didn't need. Wasn't good for anyone.
  • Terry said in the last game, do it for everyone who supported the players throughout their careers.
  • Campbell has been terrific. Has a bond both wearing number 9's. Learning how to negate an opponent and then work off him
  • RE: Interchange limits - You do need to come off for a break for a couple minutes being so fast paced and physical.
  • Put a lot of pressure on the Saints, try get a jump on them and put the pressure back onto them.
And you may not think I care for you

Great stuff wayne  :cheers  :bow

I typed up a summary too but wayne's got it all down  :thumbsup

----------------------------------------

Season so far? -  yeah not ideal start to the year after such high expectations and then losing the coach. Hopes we turnaround the season from here on.

Achilles? - coping well now with the load. Have a structure in place and routine. Too much load caused the problem. Missed last preseason so tried to catch up on thse ahead of him this preseason. Not an ongoing problem. Just a young body and learning to cope with the loads of AFL. Med team is switched on and took their advice.

West Coast game? - younger guys in and had a go. We trust each other but it's just a case of doing it onfield.

Rawlings? - wants us to play as a team and our defensive structures. Winning the ball back and limiting opposition scoring.

Gamestyle? - as he said working more on our defensive side of the game. Better defence means we're under less pressure and can attack and open the game up.

Cousins? - showing him the ropes and teaching you how to push to the next level. No matter how fit you can push yourself to another level. Playing for team too. Doesn't want to impede your game but just a few pointers throughout an actual game to help you. Not just the mids but defenders as well.

Richo? - doing all the rehab and working really hard. Thinks the club can get another year out of him.

Expectation on himself and as a future captain? - doesn't hear it too much. Wants to be a leader. It's a personal goal. Kane Johnson taught him a lot about leadership. In the junior leadership goup at the moment. Learning the most from past and current leaders at the club.

Round 1 (did it kill the confidence and was expectation too much)? - after winning 8/11, Cousins coming and all yeah it did take a bit of the confidence away and on what we had worked on. It didn't help for the next couple of games and it showed which didn't help. Not what we needed to start the season.

Wallace sacking talk? - club and Terry under pressure. Media here everyday put extra pressure on the club and it showed on field. We're pretty happy now we can turn up to the club and don't have the media there all the time.

Terry? - said before his last game as coach to think about giving it your all and in the future. Put in 4 quarters and remember everyone who helped you in your career.

Cambo? - terrific for us mids. Teaching when to hold and spread and working on structures.

Interchange rotations? - yeah you need those 2-3 min breaks.

St Kilda game? - want to put pressure on them from the start. If we can do that we'll be a real good show. He believes we match-up well with them in a few areas.

Thankyou both. Very detailed from both of you.

Whatever Cotch can do this year should be well exceeded next. Has a great attitude and learning the onfield ropes from Cousins should be very benefically to him in the future. The fact that he pushed himself too far during preseason wasn't great in terms of his fitness bu reveals a real hungry to succeed.

Bodes well for the future :pray

He's got a good head on his shoulders for a 19 year old  :thumbsup

Good to hear the achilles problems are hopefully behind him. He should be far better off next year with finally a preseason under his belt now that he understands his training loads.

I liked the bit where Cotch talked about Cuz's influence and continually pushing yourself up to another level. That never satisfied and always hungry to succeed attitude. Good stuff  :thumbsup.

Only up to a point though mt. You wouldn't want him to help us win or anything silly.  ;)

Here's another audio of Cotch from a few days ago on SEN's all-nighter program

http://podsentral.com/node/1380

Interestingly he says Cuz is the number one "blocker" in our midfield. Cuz emphasising it's all about the team.

Cotch is going into real estate btw after he finishes uni.
