Royal on SEN 1-2pm
« on: April 23, 2008, 01:23:18 PM »
Royal on now in the 'Huddle' on SEN

* A lot of development goes into young these days. We've put in a lot over the last 3 years.

* Draw? Traditionalist.

* Yes there were calls to slow the game down. There were errors (Foley handballing down to the ground, King through the points) and the bulldogs had some good individual efforts (Murphy running around Richo and goaling).

* We do work on it with video and practically on the ground. You just can't replicate the pressure. But they've got to learn from it and move in.

* You can't pinpoint one individual effort but we've got to get better at the series of individual efforts throught the game. Missing goals etc.

* 30 secs is a long time in footy. Never got to the stage in the coaching box to push.

* Lake - no problem with it. Smart. Minson wasn't that far away from the contest.

* Top 8? Difficult from where we've come from to predict. Tough 3 weeks coming up. 1-2 wins you would think we'd be in a fairly good position. We would love to make the Eight but too early to predict. At this stage looking for improvement and competitiveness.

* Caller asked why stop doing the things we were doing that got us into the winning position. Just a negative attitude to slow it down?
Royal said we've all got to learn from it both players and coaches. Plenty of ifs and maybes during a game. At the end of the day we didn't get the 4 points.

* Bounce? Keep it but recall the bad ones.

* Push in back on Browny? No big deal from our end.

* Caller asked who can stop Buddy?
No one has so far this year. Hawthorn playing really good footy. Buddy if he doesn't mark it gets it on the ground. It's going to take a team effort.

* Another caller said the media are fickle. 2 weeks ago we were crap at everything - list, coaches, recruiting and now you're asking if we can make the finals. Mark Doran said if the Tiges are 2-6 then Wallace will be under pressure. Have to wait until then.

* Wallace was ballsy to go the youth path. He said at the start that if it doesn't happen within his 5 years then it will happen for next coach who takes over.

* Chocco didn't apply for the Melbourne job. Still wants to be a senior coach. Have coached Doggy ressies and Leongatha so have coached his own team so that's not an issue.

* Doran said Wallace is on morning glory tomorrow.

* Terry over the last 2 weeks has showed how good a coach he is. Daring to move Richo onto the wing.

* Doran replayed in the ad break a tape by Terry saying Royal handles the rotations but he handles the team structure so the buck stops with him and he can overrule things.

* A big Melbourne club is pushing for two Melbourne games on Anzac Day - one at the 'G during the day and one at night at the Dome.
Don't know but the Tigers are a big drawing club. There's also the Coburg game against Box Hill on Anzac Day.

* 100,000 at the 'G in June 28?
Going to be great. Had our launch today of 100 great Richmond moments.

* Richo has been freed up on the wing. People also forget he's still kicked 15 goals so far this year (7 in the last 2 weeks).

* No Joel this week. He's played well but so has the team without him. No doubt Joel will play seniors again but at the moment the team is performing well.

Doesn't seem that long ago we were 7-2.

The difference then it was Browny and the senior players getting us across the line until he broke his leg. We have a much younger side now and it's the youngsters carrying the much of the load  :thumbsup.

Richmond vs St Kilda would fill the Dome.

At the time people were talking us up. I was sad because I knew overachiving was going to hurt us long term.

2007 was the year we had to have.

Well it shows what's wrong with the current draft system where if you win games you're punished. Very happy with Cotchin and Rance though  :thumbsup. We had hardly any injuries in 2005 up until Browny broke his leg and our best 22 at the time were fresh early on. This year we are similarly having a good injury run so far (touchwood) so we can't get ahead of ourselves either. Our depth is slowly improving as the youth starts coming through but it's not there yet. Lose Simmo, Foley or Thursty and we could quickly fall away again.
