Galway's Steede may go pro

WESTMEATH'S John Heslin may not be the last Irish player signed by the Richmond Tigers for season 2012.

Having completed a trial for the Melbourne based club earlier this year, Galway's Ronan Steede in still in the running for a contract.

Steede is currently playing with semi-professional club Grovedale. The Tigers already have Down's Jamie O'Reilly on their books.

"There's definitely still a chance (we'll sign him). He trialled here and was bright and bubbly and showed good application at training," Richmond's recruiting officer Matthew Clarke said.

"He didn't take to kicking as well as John (Heslin) did during his week here but we know that players develop at different rates."

Clarke said the club would monitor Steede's progress at his new club.

Clarke also revealed that the club had to act quickly in their pursuit of new signing Heslin.

The 18-year-old, who completed a trial with Essendon last year, was also talking to the Bombers about a possible code switch when the Tigers came knocking on his door.
