Richmond coach Damien Hardwick is looking for the continued development of his players ahead of the Round Anzac Day match against Fremantle in Perth.

Speaking before the Tigers final training session before the match at Subiaco Oval, Hardwick said his young team has shown positive signs in the early part of the season, despite not putting it on the scoreboard.

“We’re looking for the development of our guys.  We’ll have a very young side out there again…I think we’re got four or five teenagers in our forward line alone,” Hardwick said.

“You’ll see signs that things are clicking, but there’s going to be some inconsistencies in our play also.

“The scoreboard will take care of itself.  What we’re after is a process, with the game plan offensively and the game plan defensively.”

Richmond will welcome an experienced group of senior players into the team, including the return of captain Chris Newman.

Luke McGuane and Ben Cousins and also return after a one-week club-imposed sanction, and Nathan Foley will play his first match since Round 14 last year.

Despite the Tigers’ slow start to the season, Hardwick said the players were fixed on continuing to develop the new game plan.

“We’ve got a young group, and the enthusiasm of the group is unbelievable.  If you come down to our training you wouldn’t know that we’re zero and four, and that’s a great thing,” he said.

“The club is in a good position because we know where we’re at, and we know where we’re headed.”
