Richmond plans to implement the same manic pressure that won the premiership in 2018Glenn McFarlane,

February 18, 2018 RICHMOND won’t deviate from its manic defensive pressure in its premiership defence.
The Tigers narrowly missed out on making the AFLX grand final in Sydney, but ushered in a defensive dynamic to the new concept that had barely been seen on the opening two nights.
Forward Dan Butler said that won’t change when the Tigers look to kick start their 2018 campaign in the JLT Community series before their Round 1 clash against Carlton on March 22.
“We feel pretty confident going into this season,” Butler said. “We have all had a year of experience with structures and game plan, so we kind of feel like we will be better from here.
“We just want to play like we did last year, off the back of pressure.
“We watched a lot of the other (AFLX) games and noticed (it) was more of a running game kind of style of play, and we felt like we could always bring our pressure.
“I felt like we pressured really good, especially in that first game, like we did towards the end of last year, and that is really good for us.”
Tigers assistant coach Justin Leppitsch, who oversaw the club’s AFLX preparations, said he was confident the 2017 premiership side had significant improvement in it headed in to this season.
“There is a group of them, and Dan is one of them, that we think have gone to another level as far as their training preparations (go),” Leppitsch said.
“(And) those guys at the back end of their career always know what they are doing. They prepare for the game and that box is ticked.”
