Tiger, Vixen put juniors through their paces

JUNIOR sporting clubs in Illabarook will have a little bit more inspiration than their opponents this week.

Richmond footballer Adam Pattison and Melbourne Vixen netballer Sarah Wall visited the Illabarook Football Netball Club last night as part of the motivational program Doxa Goal Assist.

The program encourages children to get more involved in their community club while senior members are trained to act as mentors.

Pattison and Wall helped the juniors through a training session last night before having a chat at a sausage sizzle after training.

"We talk about the things I did to become an AFL footballer and get them motivated to reach the elite level," Pattison said.

"Even though it's been a bit cold, the boys have been great and got right into it."

Richmond had a community camp in Ballarat two years ago and Pattison said the region had taken the Richmond footy club in well.

The Tigers are finding a menacing stride in the AFL after numerous respectable losses marred their season early.

"We felt we had a good month then a couple of disappointing weeks, but we think if we can get the defensive pressure right we will turn it around," he said.

"We played all the good teams and had good efforts but couldn't get across the line, but we are certainly doing some good things."
