Who has been our best full-forward over the past 50 years?
« on: December 27, 2016, 02:05:20 PM »
The RFC website is going to have a series asking to select the best players to have filled each of the traditional on-field positions for the Tigers throughout the past half-century.

First up is the best Full-Forward out of Disco, BT, Hoggy, Richo and Jack?

LMAO

how did that happen?
“For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
Nor are your ways my ways,” says the Lord.

“For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
So are my ways higher than your ways,
And my thoughts than your thoughts."

While Richo kicked 800 goals, he played his best footy away from the goalsquare.

Disco was our best true FF IMO.

Roach was fantastic. However, he played in great sides. Richo was an amazing player. He had to put up with double and triple teaming him for the majority of his career. Very hard to separate. As a sharp shooter, Roach. As a guy who could frustrate yet win the game of his own boot, Richo.
OER. Calling it as it is since 2004.

Yep, more contested grabs than Duck Carey.
Absolutely ridiculous to say Roach was a better mark, perhaps a better lead and definitely fed by a better midfield.
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

Jack has won the Coleman twice so did Disco but jacks was in an awful team with a terrible coach who has moved him away from the goal square. Roach was the pointy end of the comps best midfield and he did kick 100.

Richo played half forward a lot during his career and won his brownlow votes on the wing. He was also a terrible kick and had terrible tantrums on field.

I think jack has overcome more odds for his results. For me its him or disco but i edge toward jack.

How many missed shots for each?

According to an old big footy thread:-

https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/who-was-the-most-accurate-of-all-100-goal-full-forwards.471721/

Roach kicked at 66.7%. In his early days he was going at a rate of 74%.

Confirmed at footywire, along with comparison with Richo and Jack:-

http://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/ft_player_compare?playerStatus1=I&tid1=15&playerStatus2=I&tid2=15&type=T&pid1=2908&pid2=336&fid1=C&fid2=C

http://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/ft_player_compare?playerStatus1=I&tid1=15&playerStatus2=A&tid2=15&type=A&pid1=2908&pid2=1731&fid1=C&fid2=C

Disco - 66.7% accuracy, with an average of 3.0 goals 1.5 points per game.
Richo - 59.0% accuracy, with an average of 2.8 goals 2.0 points per game.
Jack - 62.8% accuracy, with an average of 2.4 goals 1.4 points per game.
