OER OFFICIAL PREDICTIONS THREAD- RFC 2007 FINISHING POSITION
« on: March 10, 2007, 09:19:23 PM »
Aim is to state where you think we will finish 2007. State the range, then the position and give your reasons.

Ranges available

1st to 4th;
5th to 8th;
9th to 12th;
13th to 16th.

My range is 13th to 16th

Finishing Position = 14th

Tough Draw
We're Not Good Enough Yet to Play Finals
Poor Pre Season gives lack of Confidence
R1 is everything, if we win- maybe a 9th to 12th finish is possible, if we lose its bad news for the season.
Midfield not capable of competing with top 8 teams
Defence is average
Scoring pressure is questionable.

10-11th. Still a bit ordinary, capable of something but way behind the leaders (as are all Vic teams). Last year's 9th was partly due to other Vic teams falling apart.

13th - 16th

Finishing 13th

I think that we have a long way to go before we can compete for a finals spot.
-Skill level is still a MAJOR issue, you cant turn the footy over like we do and expect to win.
-Depth is still lacking, When Richo doesnt play there isnt anyone else to dominate up forward.
-Ruck: Simmo is a major factor in our team, if he comes back well from injury then we may push higher but we cant rely on Knobel and Patto to get us through.
-I also dont think we have improved like some of the other teams such as Carlton, North, Essendon etc they all seem a lot more exciting this year than we do.

13th-16th,
Position 13th
Basically not good enough with several players over rated Eg Schultz, Hyde, etc etc etc
Cant expect Richo to keep kicking goals either.
Reckon that Foley is the only geniuine midfielder we have.
No back up whatsoever for Simmo

We finished 9th last year, pretty much easily accounting for most of the sides that finished outside the 8.
I can not see how they could all improve so much and we go backwards, wouldn't be a good sign for TW and the boys if that ends up the case.
Remember previous pre-seasons who won the NAB cups and how did they go ?
Reserving my judgement until after Carlton Stkilda Collingwood Bulldogs - That first four rounds should sum up the season we are in for.
I would say anywhere between 6th and 12th ATM

I am hoping for 5th to 8th - likely 7

But gee after yesterday I'm think 9th-12th - likely 10th

Feeling this way at the moment simply because of our skills - in particular turnovers - we have way way too many. The other things is our runnng is not hard enough run out of the backline and maybe that has something to do with the fact that when we come storming out of the back half there is no one up forward because our entire team is in the back half of the ground  :banghead

But .....

If everythng is working and everyone is playing well then it's a different story.

So simple answer for now is - give me a week to thin :rollin about it

Ditto. Yesterday was bottom 4 skills.

The first 6 rounds where we play 5 games at the 'G will give us a better idea than the preseason games. We would want to be 3-3 at least.

Well Tony knows a bit about wooden spoons - he was also lamenting today that he should have taken the Carlton job when he was offered it instead of staying at the Pies as an assistant to Leigh Matthews :wallywink

5th to 8th.
+s
- Players stepping up/coming back/aquired we didnt have for most of last year.  Howat, Schulz, Polak, Brown, Thursty , Newman and potentially Kingsley.  Apart from AK, who of substance have we lost?  ???
- Foley and Tambo looking good.
- First 5 at the MCG gives us a good start, tough back-to-back at AAMI with 6 day break but can bounce back since 8 day break after that.

-s
Defensive Midfield pressure.
If Simmonds goes down there is no one really capable of backing him up.
Bit of a tough draw, harder than most.

I'd go 5th to 8th with us finishing 7th I think this year might be the most even season in a long time so we really need to keep tabs on our for and against as I reckon 6 teams could be vying for 7 & 8 with just a couple of rounds to go.

I really don't know where we're going to finish. I'm stumped. Anywhere from 3rd to 15th. Is there a category for that?

If we beat Carlton in Round 1 we will be in the mix and finish somewhere between 6-10. Tough draw may take its toll but nevertheless we will be competitive and just make it or just miss out.
If we lose to Carlton in round 1 we will finish somewhere between 12-14 with no more than about 8 wins.
I think beating Carlton in Rd 1 can start us off well. Playing Sydney at the G in round 2 will help us as they are traditionally very slow starters.
Its a fine line between plaeasure and pain one way or another.

My range is 9th to 12th

Finishing Position = 10th

Still too young.
The older guys will really have to lead from the front, if they can perform well pretty much all year, then the younger guys will grow and play better and by the end of the year I reckon we'll be on a bit of a roll and fighting for 8th, but percentage will again keep us out.
And you may not think I care for you
