Ending his career as he started it….
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

The old man's curse injury.

Calf injuries for blokes over 30 are hard to get over and difficult to manage.

It's been tough to watch Dylan the last 2 seasons, not the player he once was and don't think the added responsibility of the captaincy helped. Was relieved when he gave that up this season.

Throw all that together in particular the calf issue and I wouldn't be at all surprised if half way through the season he pulls the pin

As a champion of our Club I think they will give him every opportunity to get it right and TBH I really don't have a problem with that

I kinda feel like his cliff was 2022 and yet here we are in 2024 and he is clinging to life.
I actually thought that would be Jack, not Grimes.

Is not as though he needs the cash.

He is a champ but not on the levels of cotch and Jack who were both more capable of playing decent footy. Hang ‘em up grimesy

Will never forget the Grimes of 2019-20.

Had been playing in Dance's shadow for years but finally showed the world he was basically the best defender in the game and won a deserved AA. Was untouchable at that stage.

Should have retired. Will not play the full season. Selfish , taking a spot of a kid we could develop. Was a great defender in his day but now a liability. I bet by round  14:he will retire

This man is a champion and a large reason for our recent success , should be given every chance to prove himself
No doubt Dylan being the man he is will put club first in any decision he makes, like he always does

Actually, I don’t see him as selfish. I think he believes he can genuinely contribute. As I said, he doesn’t need the money.
I am not sure why he thinks he can contribute meaningfully to the seniors. Which, to me, is the issue.

Let's just wait and see what happens. If his body is still failing him before the mid season draft I have no doubt either he or the club will call time like Grigg. If he is going ok then he more then deserves to play the season out. Loyalty is important...

A champion player will remain a champion. Their form will tail off with age like everyone else but their achievements and contributions are cemented in our history.

I don’t think he has been the same player since 2021 let alone 2023 or 2022 but if there’s one thing I’ll never question with grimesy is his selflessness.
