Richmond Tigers take positives from Western Bulldogs loss

The Age
10 May 2017

It was Richmond's second defeat of the season and was a strong rebound following a heavy loss to ladder leaders Adelaide, which Hardwick described an "aberration" in their early-season form.

"The game on the weekend could have gone either way and the Bulldogs' class showed at the end," Hardwick said.

"They had a couple of bigger moments in the last stanza than we did but we look at our review and we're incredibly pleased.

"Our boys took a lot of belief that we've taken it up to the reigning premiers."

The Tigers take on Fremantle at the MCG on Sunday afternoon and are wary of what the Dockers will bring after their big win over Essendon last round.

Richmond fell five points short of the Bulldogs last round, a week after losing to Adelaide by 75 points at Adelaide Oval in a defeat that ended their unbeaten start to the season. Hardwick was pleased with his team's response against the Dogs last week despite not coming away with the win.

"We look at our review and we're incredibly pleased with what we saw out of that game. Our boys took a lot of belief out of that, that we've taken it up to the reigning premiers and we were probably both a bit understaffed in certain areas," Hardwick said.

"But it was a pretty good game of footy from both sides."

Nank will lose the ruck to sandilands. He's too short. Is Ivan a better proposal to win a hit out or two? 210cm sandi v 199cm nank or 204cm ivan soldo.

Might be worth it as Elton hasn't shown much

Could Nak be the only in? Nank could play deep swapping with Soldo with Elton playing between up the ground.

Oh Geez no....
"Much of the social history of the Western world, over the past three decades, has been a history of replacing what worked with what sounded good...."

One thing that has been absolutely consistent across Hardwicks entire tenure is very few changes each week.  1 or 2 at most 3. Given we went close I'd reckon only 1 or 2 at most this week.  He is very conservative when it comes to selection.

In the past especially when we won I tend to agree.

However something would appear to have changed this year.

Door knockers
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.
