Garthwaite is a key position defender so he won't come in for a small defender like Floss. Houli would be the obvious in but if he is still 2 weeks away as taz says then there's going to need to be some re-jigging with our small/mid defenders. Brandon Ellis will have to do Floss' role (thankfully Betts is still out) and we bring in someone to do the HB role Brandon was doing. That's likely McIntosh or Menadue. Corey Ellis to come in for Conca as his role in the VFL side is similar to what Reece's was in the seniors.

I would think Garthy comes in and Broad switches to the Vloss interceptor role.

Throw Corey Ellis in the middle and there we go.

I’d like to see Bolton on a wing.

Garthwaite is a key position defender so he won't come in for a small defender like Floss.

He wouldn't play Vlastuin's role he'd play Broad's and Broad would play Vlastuin's... :shh

Broad doesn't play key position either. He plays on the opposition's linking forward utility who plays high across F50 and leads up to the wing (eg: Adelaide's Tom Lynch who could be back this week from the Crows). Garthwaite couldn't run all day with a Lynch-type. As Dimma said, Garthwaite is an Astbury clone. The only reason you would bring Garthwaite in this week is to play on Fogarty but then Grimes would need play Vlastuin's role. We'd become too top heavy in defence with 3 key defenders.

Too much height shouldn't be an issue against Adelaide, also think you may be confusing Astbury & Garthwaite with Will Thursfield. :shh

Bolton in on a Wing - changing with Rioli up forward.

C. Ellis in to play Conca role or defensive/mid.

B. Ellis to play Vlaustin role. I don’t think they’ll bring in Garthwaite.

We don’t want to be too tall as the rains are comin’!

He might well be but somehow I can't see CEllis being picked again unless we cop a whole stack of injuries. :shh

We're not a tall side as it is - one extra won't make us top heavy,  remember they won't have Betts..... :shh :shh

In the Mix - Round 16

Jennifer Phelan

3 July 2018

Get them in: Corey Ellis has been building solid VFL form over three weeks and deserves a run at AFL level. Connor Menadue was also among the best while Sam Lloyd had 23 disposals and Shai Bolton impressed.

Under the pump: They're going to lose two with Nick Vlastuin suspended for a week and Reece Conca to sit out until the latter rounds with a dislocated ankle, so changes outside of those are unlikely.

Medical room: Conca escaped surgery but will wear a moon boot for two weeks. He remains in good spirits and the Tigers believe he'll play before finals. Bachar Houli isn't available as his return from a groin injury extends out to five weeks, but Trent Cotchin is expected to be fine despite playing out the win over Sydney with a sore knee. Anthony Miles will miss after being concussed in the VFL while Nathan Drummond is out with another hamstring. Jacob Townsend is also unavailable because of a one-game VFL suspension.

Verdict:
Corey Ellis or Menadue for Conca. Ryan Garthwaite would be an interesting replacement for Vlastuin given the Crows' bevy of talls and the chance of Tom Lynch returning. Or, if Jack Higgins plays more midfield minutes with Conca out, the door could open for Shai Bolton or Tyson Stengle to re-stock the firepower.
